    Greed has always shown a desire to be surrounded by people, to have companions at his side. The original Greed had an entire crew that considered him their friend and was so loyal they'd die for him (and a reminder of their deaths is what pushed Greedling to leave Father's service again and attack Wrath). Then when he meets up with Ed and the Chimeras, he has them "work for him" but all that really amounts to is traveling with him. Hell, Ling impressed Greed initially with a desire to protect all the people he cares about, and Ling was the one to call him out in his actions after he killed Bido. It's only now that Greed himself is truly realizing what this means, and what he wants - *has* wanted, all along.

      Yeah, in Greed's case I think it was more than just Dwarf's avarice that he embodied, but rather the part of Dwarf that pondered and wished to understand humanity and their interpersonal units and why they'd willingly limit themselves to relying on and being close to others. Hi simply didnt manifest in a corrupt fashion like it did with Dwarf since it didnt become envy and hate for what he doesnt have and cant understand, as those went elsewhere.

    • @biocapsule7311

      All the Homunculus have some deep desire specifically reflects their nature that is particularly hard to achieve due to that nature. Greed's is friendship because you can technically strive for anything, but companionship is something that you cannot force, it requires reciprocation which is very hard for someone greedy.

    I love the idea that what Greed really wants is fulfillment, which he finds through others. 'Cause it's like, that's what Greed really is. He was just trying to fill a hole with anything he could grab.

    Hawkeye and Mustang - badass duo!!
    I love how Al shielded May just as Hohenheim shielded Ed and Izumi. Like father, like son!
    Al sacrificing himself to save Ed and seeing his armor finally disappearing after rejoining with his body tears me up every time. The music just made everything all the more emotional for me.
    Everyone cheering on Ed was so heartwarming to watch! What really gets me is Mustang probably didn't know what was happening, but he still yelled out in support alongside the others.
    Greed finally realizing what he wanted all along was just beautiful. I can see all of this being a bit corny, but it sure as hell was well-executed.

    What's really interesting to consider is that each of the sins were extracted from father's soul meaning that everything the sins desired or longed for, father wanted first. It adds another layer to both envy and greed in particular

  • @Yal_Rathol

    the souls in a philosopher's stone are conscious, the evidence being that when envy turns into his true state, the souls manifesting on his shoulder act individually, some of them even talk, one of them asked ed to end its life and was overcome by another soul who was laughing madly. the difference with hohenheim is that because he deliberately worked with the souls and granted them access to his senses, the souls inside him maintain a greater degree of sapience, shown when the souls father absorbs burn themselves out to rip father apart from the inside.
    standard souls in a philosopher's stone have difficulty maintaining individuality and staying sane, which is why ling and kimbley are so weird, they seem to do it with ease. hohenheim deliberately ensured his souls maintained individuality, since he mentions one of the souls father absorbed was an alcoholic and hohenheim would often drink tons of alcohol for him to enjoy the feeling again.

    • @lazyshoggy
      @lazyshoggy 5 років тому +13

      I've never thought about the drinking part, that makes sense.
      I would say that the souls inside the stone have a limited conscience only. It seems that, when nobody cared about them and improved them like Hohenheim did, they somehow clung on to their strongest feeling only. You quote the example of Envy : they actually don't really talk or interact with Ed, they just express the final thought or emotion they kept in mind. The need of help for most of them, who call for someone of their family, the wish to drag him down with them for the ones who are mad, the desire to be free for others ... all of that was probably the primal feel that was left in them.
      In a way it's not really surprising that Kimblee and Ling have maintained their personality within the stone, first they are both strong wills and they only spent hours for Kimblee, and months for Ling (and with a quite tolerant host too), and not centuries like the people of Xerxes.

    • @lazyshoggy
      @lazyshoggy 3 роки тому +4

      @@captaincannabis3321 Well technically he can do both at the same time, which is quite convenient.
      The story doesn't look deeper into how the souls and Hohenheim interact, but I think we can assume that they have limited perceptions of what their host feel. Which may have been quite akward in some situation, especially with Trisha ...

Greed's is friendship because you can technically strive for anything, but companionship is something that you cannot force, it requires reciprocation which is very hard for someone greedy. My favorite lines from Greed. It’s the very core of the sin of greed and I love it.
    Also love the shot of the giant suit of armor disintegrating while Al’s soul reunited with his body; AND Mustang’s badass entrance with his fire dragon (wolf?). The shots, the music. CHILLS.
    Also also I’ve always liked the idea that it was Hohenheim’s first-born that’s beating the shit out of Father/Dwarf, just because of the unique history they (Hohenheim and the Dwarf) have. I don’t know how to explain it, just something about it touches me. Is it poetic? Ironic? Something along those lines.

    Maintaining individuality within a homunculus isn't dependent upon the hosts willingness, although it's incredibly hard do without it. We've only seen two people do it. Kimblee maintained individuality without Pride's consent because his sadistic nature nullified the screaming of thousands of souls which usually drives souls mad. Ling was also able to maintain individuality prior to Greed consenting to it, although at some point they became partners. For Ling, it was because of his sheer determination, will, and focus on the goal of saving his people by becoming Emperor that maintained his individuality. Ling describes himself as "no normal man" and his ability to maintain individuality through sheer will really backs this up.

    Sometimes I can't tell if I love more Edward or Alphonse. Ed is incredible, but also Al. He's always sacrificing something thinking of other people. He gave up of using the Philosopher's Stone to take his body back; he protected many people with his own body (the armor, but still) several times; he transmuted his soul to give Edward his arm back. Maybe because of these things it hits me so much when his body talks about him a few episodes ago, "my valiant and noble soul".

    What's really amazing is Greed's character arc. I mean, look where he was where the series began! Troy Baker is incredible at convening Greed's emotions the audience. Another thing to point out is that in the end of the episode, Ed says exactly to Father what he said to Cornello. Interesting...
    PS: I can't watch the fight without hearing Hoheinhiem yell "F##k him up!!" Heh... The bloopers were pretty good.

    Am I the only one noticing that it seems physically taxing on Eric to say the word 'God'?

      Leaky Peach
      Yeah he said multiple times he didn’t like god and in the sub he straight up says he’s an atheist. I think they changed that in the dub because that literally makes no sense because he’s seen god with his own eyes and has faced consequences to trying to play god.

      JustCallMeSchwick Sorry, I meant Aaron. BW reactor on the left. Multiple times they try to talk about God but it always seems to make him uncomfortable to even mention the word

      Leaky Peach ohhhh
      No, that’s my bad. Sorry. I just assumed Elric got auto corrected or something.
      I just think he doesn’t want to insult anyone but I think it’s fine because it’s in the context of the show. Like, father literally swallowed god.

    • @SchwickFAFO
      @SchwickFAFO 6 років тому +3

      Also the person on the far left is Eric. Aaron is on the right...unless you’re talking about their far left. Fuck I’m confused!

    I don't know why but Greed's line about having friends like this FREAKING KILLED me!!! That's what this whole thing built up to. Those two brothers traveled the world, connecting everyone, being loyal and true to them, becoming their friends. That's how they saved the world. So freaking beautiful! ❤

    I love how everything comes full circle in this show, Hohenheim is crying in the picture and Ed is smiling, Ed sacrifices his arm for Al’s soul and Al sacrifices his soul for Ed’s arm, Wrath tells the Ishvalans not to rely on Divine Justice and then it seems like he’s finally struck down indirectly.

    I thought it was extremely fitting in the end when we found out (spoiler) that Truth was playing the Dwarf all along and he never had the power of 'god'. In the end, Father was just a victim of his own actions.

    Thinking about it 60 is a valuable year in China and other Zodiac countries as you have completed the Zodiac cycle 4 times. It is considered a fulfilling age to live to long ago with war, famine, and disease at the time.
    I don't know if the author was intent on Bradley having a fulfilling life as fuhrer and as a human being in the real world. But it would be cool if she did.

    The last episode is a feels parade. Better prepare for it. Also, Mustang would be a serious liability if 1) he lacked the fortitude to push being blind to the back of his mind and 2) Hawkeye was a slow talker or hadn't known him for long enough to be on his wavelength. Those 2 things aligned just right to allow his full powers to be released (including his new ones).
    As for the end, the dwarf was created by an alchemist using Hoenheim to pull a creature from the portal (which does indeed feel like a step in immortality if you use the brothers as a basis). There's some minor hints in the backstory, but the biggest clue comes in the next episode I believe if you pay attention to what is said.
