    I really liked this. You're honest and up front about the upkeep required to have blonde hair when you're naturally a dark hair gal (like me). Thank you for being thorough and walking us through what you did! Very helpful!

    You did a great job on this tutorial video. It's very thorough, informative and nicely presented-unlike a lot of dangerous and misleading video tutorials for DIY hair coloring where hair magically transforms. Thanks for a well informing and helpful tutorial. Your hair looks really lovely.

    Very cool tutorial and technique! a little tip :):
    Maybe you shouldn't spread the wella toner after the bleaching process directly into the lengths. So it sits on the newly bleached/warm hair for like 20 minutes and then you spread it into the lenghts the last 5-10 minutes. Cause your lengths don't need that much processing-time than your roots, since they are way more ashy and you won't end up with such a contrast in color after the first toning-session.

  • @StarlingofAzerath
    @StarlingofAzerath 9 років тому +19

    Warning!! If you have ashy platinum hair. I would recommend using a neutral or warm hair dye, ONLY if going darker blonde. Do not use ash hair dyes when going darker from platinum. Your hair will turn gray. Like grandma gray. Unless you like that sort of look.

      Well a hairstylist used a neutral dye on my blonde hair and it turned super orangy brassy brown. So next time I will use ash!!!!!!

    I feel like the toner was a waste - since u went two shades darker next time apply the hair dye on the bleached roots and it should be fine - remember to remover brassy hair always go two shades darker than what u have - something similar to the color that u ended up with it's like a 7 smokey ash blonde mixed with a 8 gold luck from wella of course

    • @helloitsjeanna
      @helloitsjeanna  9 років тому +8

      destiny felix I've done that before (omitting toner) with orange results. Getting it to a similar color would have meant bleaching again causing more damage and decided to go with the lesser of 2 evils by toning and adding in that extra step.
      If I went two shades darker, I wouldn't have come out with the result I wanted.

    • @florenna
      @florenna 9 років тому +3

      destiny felix I agree, and even disregarding that, this is TRIPLE processing (3 peroxide dyes in a row basically, as the one called "toner" here is still mixed with peroxide, too), which is outrageously damaging to your hair & scalp...

    • @florenna
      @florenna 9 років тому +1

      florenna Though the coconut oil & washing once a week probably do counter this a little bit.

    • @helloitsjeanna
      @helloitsjeanna  9 років тому +3

      florenna so is bleaching hair multiple times to get to platinum from black, but people do it anyway. Yes, toner and dye are both mixed with peroxide, but isn't striping out color the same way bleach is making it 'less' damaging than the former.

    • @KvDenko
      @KvDenko 8 років тому +3

      +Jeanna M. +MakeupBy Tania use their Demi line for toning. toner is supposed to only deposit. if you use a permanent color, you run into accidentally exposing more yellow because of the lifting. I think as an extra precaution, Wella calls their permanent color "toner" and give it a 1-2 level lifting power, but generally, use the lowest volume with bleach, get it really light (using a low volume allows you up to 3 times MAX of applying the bleach to the same area for 50 minutes of processing each time) and then just tone the yellow out. that box color was not necessary at all. and Demi has the same staying power vs. permanent in terms of toning, so no need to use the permanent.

    I try hi lift color, instead of bleach now, it lorel hi,- lift light brown, or blond hi lift... it acts as a toner... I like ur hair

  • @felicitykhan8912
    @felicitykhan8912 9 років тому +2

    You should try Wella 7a smoky ash blonde or if you want to go slightly darker 6a dark ash blonde with 10 volume developer instead of the toner and box dye. They both have a blue base so they'll cancel out any brassiness. I use them after bleaching and my hair feels amazing after! It actually makes it feel healthier. And it's super easy to lift if you decide to go lighter blonde.
    I only use the Wella toner if I want to go really light blonde. I feel it dries my hair out a lot more than the hair dye

      Jeanna L. what is the difference between the popular t18 and t14? I got a box of t14 because i figured my hair would be more orange anyways. What's your experience?

    • @helloitsjeanna
      @helloitsjeanna  9 років тому

      Mish. Michelle T18 has more of a purple base from what I've heard on Amazon reviews and will only counter act yellow brassy hues. If your hair is more on the orange creamsicle side like mine and you don't want to keep on bleaching it to lift it to a yellow, then go with t14. Buuuut, if you want your hair slightly lighter, you'll have to double bleach and use t18.

I have colored my hair with permanent color (ash blonde) than i used frost and glow to highlight ends of my hair. Now It is kind of caramel but i tried to reach dark ash color. I want dark ash for my roots and highlight on my ends. Is it possible to fix orange color to use only toner or do i need to do your step three after using toner. And should i use toner on my highlighted ends or just roots.

      itzcharmaineee Me too. I have thick, coarse Asian hair and can't wash more than twice a week. I just do dry shampoo with a once a week wash. Because of my budget, I go to mid-price stylists and most are afraid to bleach out Asian hair. I could pay $$$ to have it done by higher end stylists/colorists, but from what I've researched, results are not guaranteed. So I can pay $800 for someone else to fuck up my hair or I can pay $100 and fuck up it up on my own. :-) I'll takes me chances in me own hands and this video will help.

    First off, thanks for replying! I am a baby when it comes to hair so I was hoping I'd get some advice/tips from you.
    So what I have now is a color very close to my natural hair color on top, then it gradually fades to a brown, then the blonde (that is now brassy), though I think they are more mixed than a gradient. I think the girl who did my hair used a natural brown so it's not platinum blonde, although the bleach made some strands lighter than others. Therefore, should I run the toner all over my hair from scalp to tips? I want to keep a dark/natural root and just want the brown/blonde to be ashy. Like really ashy because the brassiness comes back a lot and fast, I've noticed. Also, how frequently can I put the toner in my hair? I can send a photo if necessary. I just don't know if I can use the toner or if I have to get it rebleached each time (which was what I was told).
    Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I can't go back spending +$200 on my hair when all it does is go brassy again after a while. It seems pretty easy, but I just want to be sure. Your video has been one of the best that I've found, so please help if you can!

      Tone is what eliminates the brass in your hair, granted if you have the level of blonde you want. If you want to go lighter, you'll have to bleach and tone again.
      As for the color, I personally use the nice n easy box dye because it gives my hair a multifaceted tone

    I already have a blonde ombré right now and I want an ash blondé ombre, do I still have to do Step 1 and 2 or can I just get the hair dye and apply it to my ombré?

    So after you mix the bleach and the developer and apply to your hear, you put mix again developer and toner and apply to you hair?? And after that you color it?

    When do you start counting the time? When you finish saturating the hair or when you start? I've been counting from the moment I start bleaching...

      +mitty2575 I count it after I'm done applying it into my hair, periodically checking in on it to see if I should wash it out sooner. Everyone's timing is different -- it's like cooking. ;-)
