    I lived in Oakland for 1 years. In that year, I got my car stolen (epidemic in Oaktown), witnessed a murder by the old Walmart, got rear-ended by someone who drove off, robbed at knifepoint, and saw teen prostitutes on International Blvd. I got out of there fast. I was working in IT doing technical support.

      In 20+ years in Oakland, I had my car stolen once and my car broken into twice. That's about the norm for my Oakland social circle. Everyone's experience in life is different. Sorry to hear your year in Oakland was so challenging. Like most cities, it has its crime challenges, but that's far from being the norm throughout the city. Hope you're happier now.

    Walmart left a long time ago. Right now, in terms of crime, it’s a near hell hole. Carjackings, shootings, machine gun fire, people robbing you at gun point.

    • @Vinh616
      @Vinh616 Рік тому

      Lmao near hell hole? People are so easily brainwashed by the news... if people like you look at the FBI crimes stats the last 5 decades in Oakland, the 80s and 90s are the worst, the peak... 2021-2022 crimes are no where near near the 80s and 90s... also when crimes was the lowest ever in 2019, and there's an "increase" all of sudden Oakland is a hell hole? Just because we live in an Era where there are cameras everywhere all of sudden there's more crimes? People are so ignorant

    I find myself feeling nostalgic about Oakland a lot of times. It was a great place to grow up back in the 60's and 70's and I often wish I had more chances to visit. You are right though about the bad rap that the city gets. The last time I was there people were still very nice and I remember if you lived there your neighborhood was like an extended family, not just a place that you lived. I wish that I new what the schools were like now but I felt like I got a world class education, which I didn't fully appreciate until I left Oakland. I think you would be surprised at how many conservatives actually live in Oakland, though many of them don't consider themselves from Oakland. I often have to remind one of my sisters that Piedmont is part of Oakland, though she denies it. Personally, I'm proud to be from Oakland. The Lake Merritt area was a tad conservative back in the 70's but you are right, its mostly a liberal progressive city. I'm just saying, conservatives will be able to find friends too. Oakland is more than just a diverse city, but having lived there I would consider it a more culturally rich city than San Francisco as well. I don't think people fully appreciate the talent that came from Oakland. Clint Eastwood, Tom Hanks, believe it or not Max Baer from the Beverly Hillbillies, MC Hammer, Tower of Power, the Pointer Sisters, En Vogue and that's just who I can think of off the top of my head. Oakland has museums, and historic theatres that for some reason people outside of Oakland don't seem to know about but really inspired me growing up. The traffic can be bad, but back when my mom commuted to San Francisco to work, she always took BART. AC transit was also another good way to travel, but I have to admit, I haven't been on BART or AC Transit since the 80's, so I'm guessing it has changed somewhat. Driving I usually found staying off the highways got me where I was going depending on where that was. I can go on and on about the things that I loved about Oakland growing up. I don't know how much of it has changed, but I still feel lucky that I got to grow up there.

    I was starting to fall in love with Oakland before the Pandemic hit but now Oakland and Berkeley look like completely different places due to new apartment complexes. It's very cramped. I just stopped thinking about moving to Oakland when my Catalytic Converter got stolen and someone kept messing with my gas and stealing some of it from my car when visiting friends.

    Do you think the mass exodus of people that left the bay area had affected the housing or rental markets?

    • @RichFlemingRealtor
      @RichFlemingRealtor  2 роки тому +5

      There really hasn't been a mass exodus of people leaving the Bay Area. That's more media hype than anything else. Most people leaving SF and Silicon Valley are relocating in other nearby counties. Traditionally, about 15% to 18% percent of relocations are out of area and there hasn't been any indication that those numbers have changed recently.
      Housing prices have definitely not declined as you would anticipate if a mass exodus were happening.

      In general, transfer taxes are not pass deductible. However, they do increase your cost basis when calculating any potential capital gains in the future. Please check with your tax advisor on your individual situation.

      I hear you, brother. I grew up in Oakland just as poor as most people. But, I didn't use that as an excuse to commit crimes.
      I left Oakland in 1976 to join the Army. Twenty years in the Army, I had a safer life than in Oakland. I have a better life in Kansas.

      Idiot. $15,000 every year on top of the mortgage and maintenance means only rich people can afford to buy homes here now. Oakland charges more for infrastructure than almost anywhere and delivers worse than anywhere. But go off celebrating the same social justice insanity that is making life worse for poor and middle class people. Because you have petty envy for an imagined caricature of a rich person that doesn’t really exist

    Oakland is just fine; Problem being is that multi-millionaires and billionaires are selfishly and vindictively pauperizing the city. While they may pray to Jesus for salvation, they think He’s too “woke” for their acquisitive MO.

    I will pay you $100 not to move to Oakland the most dangerous city in USA or any near by cities. I live close to this are and someone gets killed by gun violence there every single day sometime 2-3 homicide in a day. You will get get broken into maybe even stolen easily. Not to mention bullets fly in from all directions there so you never know. The city looks like a trash bin with lots and lots of homeless encampment along with lot of illegal trashing dumping everywhere. It's a true ghetto. even homes gets broke into , not to mention there is a China town in Oakland and the Asian community live in fear there since they get robbed and assaulted very often there. Just check out the Oakland news everyday and you will see. They had to change Police chief so often because there is simply no end to crime there at all. I think Mexico is safer than Oakland California these days

    • @Vinh616
      @Vinh616 Рік тому +3

    • @AuroraBoarder1
      @AuroraBoarder1 11 місяців тому

      @djdal7769 - to use an old term, you ain't never lied!
      I grew up in Oakland during the 1960s and 70s. It was horrible even then. I tore out of there like a bat out of hell soon as I turned 18. To this day, it's the best decision I ever made.
      The last time I visited Oakland was in 2004. At that time, it had the atmosphere of a maximum security prison. It was dangerous to ride the bus, or even walk down the street. Now, I understand it has over 90 shantytowns, otherwise known as homeless camps. It averages about 2 carjackings a day, and one murder every 3 days. Even "nice" areas like Rockridge, Trestle Glen, and Skyline Blvd are no longer safe. The reason the big stores left is because of mass looting.
      You said you'd pay people $100 to not move to Oakland - YOU should be paid $100 for warning them!
