I agree that those flags should be allowed and those who served respected at all times. But from this one sided story, you are being equally disrespectful. If that was the ordinance or law there, then it should be enforced at all times. I agree that it was a bad regulation. But she had a job to do. And I wouldn’t want any regulations selectively enforced. The veterans and the business can and did appeal to the local government to change that situation. In many places inspectors let some people get away with somethings because they know them or take bribes. That is wrong. I don’t know the entire story here. But if she was enforcing a regulation as part of her job, then she did the right thing. You have no idea how often inspectors get harassed for doing their jobs. Most regulations are in place to protect everyone or keep a thing like posting billboards and flying banners from becoming an eyesore or a safety issue. Just because you got your feelings hurt or angry, isn’t a reason to fire someone doing their job. If disagreeing with employees was grounds for their termination, no one would be employed. Please try to get both sides of a story before you go off half cocked.

@@jamesbarnes9504 no I believe that people deserve to have both sides of the story told before being judged. And you have no idea what that woman goes through on a daily basis. I know and have known people in position inspecting building construction to food handling. They were constantly verbally abused and occasionally assaulted on the job. I see you believe in “slap them again when they turn the other cheek”. Is it fair for me to judge you as such? Do you appreciate people drawing conclusions about you based on one side of a story? And just out of curiosity, are you a Christian? I mean a true follower of the teachings of Jesus Christ? Because from this interaction, it sure doesn’t seem like it.

She even admits in the first sentence that she *reposted* this mess.
What a loser. Suspension without pay seems on the right track, but if I had the final say, she'd have been terminated for the way she handled the whole thing start to finish. Highly unprofessional and therefore, unemployable by me.
Her apology has fake empathy, too.

She would have said nothing if the flags had been Pride flags or Ukrainian flags. You can’t be merciful to these people or they will overstep every time.

Forget all about all the what kind of flag would be okay, right or left, nonsense. She said they broke a law. What law? Were there too many? Were they too tall? Is there even a law? If not, she should be fired. If there is, it should be changed because it's a stupid law.

What a strange ordinance. Does anyone know what the ordinance actually says and when it came became the law?
As for the inspector, being rude is not appropriate. If you are a public facing city official you have to have your game face on all the time. IMO: all she needed to do is say "Look I am just enforcing the ordinance. No different that police officer who pulls someone over for driving 10 mph over the speed limit, even if the road and traffic could handle 20 mph over the limit. Here is who you should talk to about get ordinance # changed. I am giving you a warning. And I have family members who served."

There's an older video that actually highlights the exchange and gets more into what was said. I imagine it sucks for people to complain about you just doing your job and you get sick of hearing it. She probably just hit a breaking point and it happened to be seriously unfortunate timing. I imagine city inspector is a thankless job and no one is particularly kind to her.
