I especially love staking a basement out with a bunch of corner points, and turning 90 on every point. Oh man i’m telling you, pinning a basement with about 24 corners would be a blast...an absolute blast. I pinned a condominium footer with 108 corners, it was more fun than than i could even attempt to explain. I would set 2 points, set up on one point and zero, so then I could turn 90 for the next one; it’s just tedious, maddening fun.

@@deplorablelibertarian I just did an ICF basement with 32 corners. I setup batter boards on anything under 8-10 corners. Above that I use a surveyor. In our area the surveyor will do the layout and 3 on site visits to Mark it out for less than 2k.

@@DigAHoleFillAHole....I enjoyed being an actual LAND surveyor doing alta/topo surveys on huge tracts of land, but I absolutely despised pinning footers and mortgage surveys. I did the alta survey and boundary survey on the base housing for Langley AF Base, that was the kind of stuff I enjoyed. We used the Trimble Total Station so the survey work was a little more expensive.

The thought of buying new or newer equipment is to do so for more productivity, reliability, and of course added comfort. They basically have increased speed for productivity and definitely added operator comfort but are severely lacking and have gone down hill on reliability due to all of the added electronics and emissions. Granted a lot of the electronics helps on the productive and fuel efficiency but also adds for more things to go wrong. And that goes for all manufacturers Cat, John Deere, Volvo, all of them. I don't care for the electronic joystick controls I prefer the hydraulic pilot controls so I can actually feel the work that I'm doing especially when precision counts. Great video Mike!

When you look at Chris's (letsdig18) 160 that only runs a 42" bucket, although I believe it's a high capacity bucket being deeper, but the 160 doesn't want anything any bigger, with a full bucket stretched out over the side of the track, it'll pick it's opposite track off the floor & you have a 42" bucket on a 140

Simple things like boom and stick geometry can have a bid effect on the performance of a machine. The location of pins vs hydraulic cylinder mount locations can change things dramatically. You can have good pressures but have less breakout force on machines with slightly different layouts. That’s one reason mass sticks have such a long upper where the upper cylinder mounts... it gives more leverage. Slower movements... but greater force. So each manufacturer goes about things a little different. You can’t always expect the same results from different machines/manufacturers.

Suggestion: When you do a complicated basement like this, it would be really useful if you do a plan view drawing and show where you start, setup, pile the dirt and in the order you do it. That would REALLY make it clear and convey the experience you have. Not a complaint - just a suggestion.

Aloha Mike, good comparison between the Volvo and the 120. Leverage and the fulcrum point are always the key when lifting, reaching, and moving. It seems like Volvo focuses more on stability and is willing to sacrifice a bit of power to maintain safety. The Volvo skidsteer is the same way, much more stable, less tippy, but seems to lack a bit of capacity and power as a trade-off. I remember watching a video of the new skidsteer when they first came out and the head to head was impressive, but real world is always different.

The whole geometry thing makes sense considering you said it boomed up much quicker. That shorter angle will make it boom up faster at the cost of lift capacity so I think you nailed it.
