- I am going to test and review two new and very powerful diode laser engravers: the Sculpfun S30 Pro Max and the Atomstack x20 A20 Pro. I am going to put them to the test to see how they perform at laser engraving and laser cutting plywood, hardwood, stainless steel and acrylic, and I will also try to CUT STEEL with them! I am also going to measure their laser spot size and compare all the results to other machines I have tested previously. I hope this will help you decide which is the best 20W quad-diode beam laser engraving machine in 2022.

Offline operation is a huge plus! When the unit is mounted in a location away from the design computer, sneaker netting a file to the laser makes life a lot simpler.

Excellent review. Seems we are on the cusp of amazing diode laser progress.
My experience is that every few months a big breakthrough happens both in price and technology.
Understanding diode and focusing lense technology concepts along with manufacturing tolerances, I believe the focus spot size could very quite a bit between two machines of same brand and model. Making a comparison imprecise using only one from each brand. Remember these are Chinese made and affordable, so quality control likely takes a hit. I bet a lot of you have experienced these quality control issues with other things and understand the nature of the game.
However this was a very informative and useful demonstration of the two and gives us a real world example of the two.

Do you mean a honeycomb? Otherwise you put the laser on the table. It comes with a steel sheet for protecting the table.

Those are 2 good machines but S30 haven't got the most essential for me :a touch screen with SD card reader that X20 got, putting files on SD card and engraving outside or in the garage is better for smell and smoke ( and eventually for house fire ...)
However, X20 haven't got a large size extension option (480x850) as the S30 (905x935) and seems to be a little under the S30

The protective lens is a neat feature. I wish all laser module adapted this as a laser module lenses can be easily be damage and brick easily than expected.
Anyway do you have any plan to cover the NEJE E40 Laser module? It will be an interesting comparison to the Sculpfun since it's claim to have a thinner and longer focus size. It's also have this weird temperature module adapter and air tube which is pretty interesting to check out.

@@JTMakesIt Thank you. But I meant a concise list of all the lasers you've tested so far. Received the Jinsoku LC-40 with the compresses laser last week and am quite disappointed. they promise 0.05*0.08 but I'm getting closer to 0.12*0.30.
@@matheokoning4456 Yeah, everyone advertises smaller spot than it really is. I don't have a single list, you need to check each individual review.
@@JTMakesIt Yes apparently. If it had been a little more it wouldn't be a big deal but almost 0.3 is very misleading if they advertise with 0.05*0.08

How is the performance of these machines to cut and engrave clear and other types of Acrilic (without painting it black). We know that black Acrilic can be cut easily but how about cutting and engraving other colours?
Red, green, yellow works well, but they need more power or more passes for the same effect. Blue does not work well as it is the same color as the laser beam.

Obviously the sculpfun is the better machine but I was looking for stats and the Atom Stack comes out better on webpage and when I was having problems with my current Atomstack P7 they had a very good customer service how is the Sculpin customer service?
From my experience they are pretty good. They also have a very nice and active facebook group

I have also reviewed the xtool D1 Pro 20W and 40W. YOu can watch all videos and decide which one is best for your type of work.
The extension to get 900 by 900 for the sculpfun is that 2 sets

Hi, can I cut transparent ,gold or other color acrylic with this machine ?
Transparent and white definitely not. Blue also not very well. I have tested green, red, yellow and black with good results.

There is no cheap way of cutting steel. Laser like this will cost 10k-50k

Hello how is it working??
The cutting test can be manipulated by adjusting the air flow. If you release the air less, then the number of passes will increase. If you use it to the maximum, then they will decrease by cutting this way faster!
Connected to an external compressor, I cut 8mm mdf with X20 in 7 passes with 95% power and 300mm/min. It came out slightly burnt on the edge. With 100% power, the number of passes would change.
I use full air assist power for cutting tests. The flow depends on the pump

Focus properly, find the right speed. If anything doesn't work, then the wood you have is not suitable

Now I'm already choosing a less powerful laser, a 10 watt module will do. The choice is between the Sculpfun S10 and the recently released Atomstack A10 V2, very nice and neat, but there are no reviews or delivery to my country yet.

If the Sculpfun S30 Pro is a clear winner in this case. Can you please make a video comparing it to the Xtool D1 Pro 20w. We are all wondering if the Xtool machine is worth the extra money or if the Sculpfun is better than the Xtool and is better quality for price. Or maybe could you just tell us which machine you think is better to buy? The Xtool D1 Pro 20w or the Sculpfun S30 Pro Max 20w?

@@JTMakesIt I'm also interested in seeing the direct comparison of the D1 Pro and S30 Pro Max. It seems like D1 is far superior in terms of mechanical precision. What S30 is great at is smaller focus size (0.15x0.10 vs 0.15x0.15) and better focus length. Is that about it? To me, mechanical precision is much more important, given that the focusing mechanism of the D1 allows for half-thickness adjustment, etc.

15mm plywood is too thick. This plywood has too many layers of glue and can't be cut reliably. To cut it in one pass, you will need 10 times more expensive machine.
But, is it posible to cut it with more than 1 pass?
@@adrianz8728 no. It will get very charred and you will need 20+ passes. Check the review of the XTool D1 Pro 20W where I tried cutting 18mm Poplar plywood which is the easiest wood to laser cut. And it didn't work.

The Atomstack claims to have the laser spot of 0.08*0.1mm on their website instead of 0.2*0.15 in this video. Did they updated the machine recently?
I don't think so. There is usually quite a difference between advertisement and reality. So it sounds reasonable to me.
All machines I have tested so far have a larger focus spot than advertised. This is why I test this :) i think it could also vary from the machine to the machine.

I can't stand videos that use text to speech for all the voice work! 👎
You never know the author's reasons for using it. Some people have speech difficulties, or don't like the sound of their own voice, or maybe don't like having to record multiple takes to fix mistakes. Over time, the text to speech voices will continue to improve.
How about mounting a laser cutter machine on the wall and try to make it work with a raspberry pi just like a 3d printer 😉

This would be a good channel if you used a real voice.
