If you keep your troops around the port(s) in Manila and Luzon the Americans almost always leave only the Paratroopers in the northern port, and if you get the two remaining units in Mindanao to hold the strait the Americans almost never break through. You can reasonably hold the phillipines for a long while. Borneo can be defended and dug in if you move troops from the other Indonesian islands esp if you have the scripted naval invasions on. With a cheeky last stand and a withdrawal from some of the other nonimportant islands (such as the ones not needed to remove the bombing spirits, holding Iwo Jima/Okinawa etc) you can beat back the scripted naval invasions and get the Setting Sun down quite a lot. The only thing is that China has Sinkiang so (and I tested this) even if you occupy all of their other land they BARELY hold on in Sinkiang... Also the Soviets CAN be held back but it's a nightmare and if you lose Mukden and other parts of Manchuria you're pretty much hosed. doing the border forts focuses helped a good bit but with such low equipment it's still a tight thread.
