The great thing about this scene is the fact that the instrument at 1:00 to 1:17 is actually a 6-string Fender Bass VI. Only about 300 were made of this type, and the one in this scene is one of just two ever made in that color. That really is a rare instrument.
That's my favorite part, even over "these go to 11". I say it all the time to people too, but it's such a basic set of words that no one ever knows and I think even I don't realize what I'm saying half the time.
When I saw this in the theater, Nigel discusses his shirt with Rob at the end. He explains that it is an exact replica of his skeleton if you could use x-ray vision to see through his skin. Rob says, "Well, it wouldn't be green." Nigel looked puzzled.

I’m an assistant principal in a middle school and during loud times of the day I have to wear a clunky head set on my walkie talkie to even hear anything. It involves cables and clips and I refer to it all as “mucky muck” in an English accent. Nobody gets the reference but someday somebody will

Nigel pausing, obviously confused, after being asked "Why don't you just make ten louder"... brilliant acting, makes the scene what it is. All this is improv! Amazing
the genius of this is how Nigel keeps cutting him off because the guitars are so important to him he's not listening, he's explaining, a great piece of acting.
What might be a fun fact about the scene with Nigel and the guitars, for those who are a fan of the movie. The guitars in the scene were loaned by Norm's Rare Guitars for the movie. In actual fact the flying V which you can see in the background is Norm's own Amos Arthur Flying V - an extremely precious piece which he sold not long ago to Joe Bonamassa after owning it for 40 years. Its got a strong heritage and a lot of photographic history. Just linking some cool info I've picked up from other videos I've watched related to this.
It's not the phrase 'these go to 11' that's funny (although it is!), it's the pause just before where you can clearly see Nigel's brain trying to process that question. Christopher Guest nailed the vacuous rock star tropes so well that i notice new subtleties every time I watch the film!
This is exactly how guitar geeks talk about gear and I am guilty of being one of those guitar geeks . This is exactly word for word how every guitar player describes the 1959 gibson les paul.
