“Not having to deal with FOOLS” is my number one reason for my garage gym. I love it.
Which rack is best for bicep curls?
That part made me chuckle - certainly agree!
its "fewls". get your pronunciation right
No one asked
But their fun to watch! Especially the yellers!
What type of garage fridge should I buy for storing my milk?
To quote Rip, "C-Channel is the best."
That's the best I've got.
A cow
That's a trick question. You should be drinking the milk quick enough not to require any refrigeration.
Fridge is for pussies. You don't store your milk, you just drink it.
from titan fitness!
You forgot to mention the #1 benefit of a home gym: complete control of the stereo. (And those are easy to find on Craig’s List.)
@Eddie Hall better work out those glutes then
@R I hear that! That's why I love those commercial gyms 🤣
Anytime Fitness never played Slayer.
How to build a home gym: Do it before Covid-19.
Never forget the great dumbbell shortage of 2020
Shut up
2021 and everything is still sold out.
... and make sure it’s C channel and don’t forget a wooden bench...
I could listen to Mark talk about weights all day long. 😎
Paid good money to attend one of his certs.
Money well spent.
Cool, first i'll need a house.
Who else is watching this a year later because of COVID-19?
"Why would I want a garage gym?" I said. "I've seen so many people buy weights and hang laundry on them, then still pay for a gym membership" I said. Then the kung-flu hit and my governor ordered gyms shut down. Pricing out home gym equipment now.
I've contemplated spending hundreds on gym equipment even though I might not use it after covid 19 blows over.
Whatever it takes for us gym rats.
Just got back with a Craigslist squat box, Bigger faster stronger brand, $300 clams. Gonna buy a bar from Rouge Monday, thinking "ohio bar" or should I get the " Ohio power bar". Bench squats, deadlift novice..
Gym closed Monday afternoon...
@@bradr539 If you focus on more powelifting style training (as you've said), then you won't go wrong with the Ohio Power Bar. I think the regular Ohio bar has more versatility (i.e. Olympic lifting movements). If you're on a budget, I'd check Titan Fitness. The quality is comparable to Rogue for way less and they're selling out quick.
@@ErikfromEarth I'm thinking the OPB should be the best to start my personal gym. They say you WILL buy more barbells !😁 dead lift bar , Olympic bar etcetera..
I've been on /off with the Starting Strength program I need to follow through .
Thanks for responding..
I bought a rouge squat stand, a Matt Chan bar, 2 pairs of rogue steel 45 plates, a pair of 25’s, 2 pairs of 10’s, a pair of 5’s, and a pair of 2.5’s, a rogue leather lifting belt, a York plate stand and a rogue welded utility bench all for $1800. I have 8 4x3 stall mats for $25 each and picked up some used plates from Craigslist. I have about $2150+/- in all of that and am so happy I did it.
I recently picked up a Rogue Echo bike for $650 for conditioning.
Assembling a home gym was one of the best decisions of my life. I have ZERO buyers remorse on any of it.
Sounds like a solid home gym bro! ✌💪
That echo bike is sweat, trying to find one used locally
AwakendGainz good luck... they are awesome
Why not just buy a regular bicycle?
Vineripe Eggs because doing sprints in my neighborhood would be dangerous and I like the echo bike because of the full body aspect of it.
I'm surprised with some of the negative reviews. I was so impressed with the ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMwYg0MOXR4M-oGeyBsNSYe1aPOUoRH6D cage that I got the lat pulldown attachment that goes with it. It is equally outstanding. I don't have one complaint other than putting it together is a job. The instructions and packaging of the parts are very well designed and organized. Also, I stripped and damaged the pull down cable the first day, admitting it was my stupid fault, and they quickly replaced it at no charge. I'm 6'5, 280lbs and fit in the cage just fine. Glenn B
I'd LOVE to hear Rippetoe read kids books... Goodnight Moon. Peter Rabbit. I can't stop laughing...
Hahaha that's actually a pretty funny idea.
'The Rabbit used the Hip draahve and jumped across the heydge.' - I can hear it --- :)
Building the home gym has been one of the best decisions I was ever forced into making. Absolutely adore it, and will never go back to a commercial gym. Thank you Coop for all the advice along the way 🤙
The biggest benefits of owning a home gym are that you don't have to worry about people giving you unsolicited advice, equipment designed to your specific needs [usually a power rack] and waiting time when a particular equipment is being used.
I would think the biggest benefit of owning a home gym is finally getting to curl in the squat rack
@@frankyi8206 How to build a home perm.
plus listening to your own music, being loud, saving travel time and money and being able to go straight to your kitchen for a shake or the shower right after a workout.
Having a home gym is great and you can add to it over the years
Just wish I had a garage
Lol closet gym reviews
Mine is in the corner of my living room. I will forever live alone...
@@danielziemba8045 same here my squat rack is also used as a coat hanger
Haha more applications for your money spent! To be clear: I use mine all the time and love that it's in my climate-controlled living room, but I'm sure no woman would allow that in her home haha
I have a basement gym.
the "bar" is the most important part of any gym...some bar's are right around the corner & a few even have live entertainment!
Ha
Love this stuff but even this advice was far more than I needed to get over my disabilities that have kept me from sitting for 3 years post back injury. My 120 SQ/ft home gym with 2 Cable machines, Half Power Rack/ Bench, Leg curl leg extension machine and dumbbell rack cost ~$2500. I am not going to win any competitions any time soon and will never have more than a few extra sq feet of space to play with and this is more than enough to stay fit compared to my prior deteriorated state. I think a lot of people see these kinds of videos and immediately give up thinking they cannot even get close, and its not correct. This setup helped me go from atrophied cripple ~38% body fat unable to sit/run to 15% body fat and gained 16 pounds of muscle in a year. A few more months and I will be back to baseline fitness and ready to start running again. Once again, love the videos, and this is not a dig, I know you are an enthusiasts and that is not the same thing as someone on a budget trying to rehab in the home, but its worth mentioning.
Used home gym equipment today is about as easy finding ammo. Crazy times.
U can find ammo? Lol that's a lie for sure
A good visual addendum to Mark's talk. Thanks Coop!
I've worked out more in the few months we've had a home gym than I did in the few years I had a gym membership. So I definitely agree with Mark's ending assessment there.
I still come here to watch/listen to Mark narrate this beautiful video atleast once every 3 months.
He’s the Master !!! He always tells it like it is no BS.
I wish Mark had audible books lol
Haha he is enjoyable to listen to.
Lots of his dialogue and a few seminars on UA-cam.
He has one audible book right now. It’s called Strong Enough: Thoughts from Thirty Years of Barbell Training
I'd LOVE to hear Rippetoe read kids books... Goodnight Moon. Peter Rabbit. I can't stop laughing...
"It was the best of tahms, it was the worst of tahms..."
I love this video and the advice of Mark and Coop. Invaluable.
Gym needs more HIP DRAHHYYYYVVE
I'd say more FAHHHHVVVVES as well
The way he said “fools” made me laugh
Classic, direct, common sense....everyone needs a dad, uncle, trusted pal that can advise them in this manner - KISS right? Follow this guy and then customize as you want. TY for sharing!!
This just nourished the soul!
Just listened to the original audio an hour ago. Still had to watch this!
Saving this as a favorite for sure. Don't have the funds right now, but in the near future I plan on coming back to this video to assist me with my build.
Very enjoyable video! Thanks Coop!
Awesome video. Thanks Coop
This video is bad ass! Awesome job Coop
Thanks for this! Well done!
Thanks Coop doing this right now!
I have to yet click so fast to watch an epic upload of this magnitude!!! Awesome video Coop.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I have heard a few different podcasts from Rippetoe, but this one may be his best.
Excellent video, essential viewing
Great video!!! Thanks for the Information!
Just had an Inspire SCS dropped off at the house today! So excited to get it built!!!
Love the no bs commentary of Rippetoe lol
I don’t have the space for a power rack etc so my home gym consists of deadballs kettlebells Bulgarian Bags steel clubs, maces, portable landmine (torsonator) and all stored on Rogue 3 tier storage system
Excellent video!!!👍
Great video. Congratulations and thanks.
Good video, great delivery.
That was great and very helpful for a noob like me. Thank you.
Spot on! Home garage Gym great way to go! Key club also another option if you have
multiple hard core training partners!
Well done coop!
I hit the deal of a lifetime a few weeks ago. 570lb of plates, 3 curl bars and a 7' bar for $400 at a moving sale! I already had some plates but needed a lot more and lucked up.
Only problem is the bar is from Academy, I think, that is to say fairly cheap and one bearing is frozen, but I already had a bar and needed a junk bar for the occasional rack pull and super-heavy shrugs anyway, so I took it as part of the deal.
FB Marketplace can be a gift and a curse; it was a gift for me this round.
soooooo good! Nice job, dude.
Best video I seen in a long time now just gotta find the perfect power rack
Brilliant 😎
:50-:55 seconds in had me rolling. Thx for this, great information for my home build.
this is really well done and cool. makes me look back with nostalgia when I started my own garage gym.
When did you start your garage gym?
Love it!
5:52 *laughs in ¢50/lb*
Where and how?
Got a 300lb weight set to replace my old sandfilled 100lb weight set and i discovered a new injury, my shoulder sounds like gravel and is very uncomfortable to bench, so now im sticking to body weight till i go to the doc
Midnight Marauder - So what did the doc say? 🤔
The platform actually protects your garage floor, so while it does not have to be expensive, it needs to provide adequate protection for the chosen activity type, not just "lay there".
Hey coop can you make a video comparing the b&r 2.0 rouge barbell and the ss barbell? And a review on the starting strength gym equipment in general?
Great video
Lol...the good ol’ bait and switch. I was getting ready to hear more about the starting strength bench.
Haha that's coming soon!
Garage Gym Reviews be sure to point out it’s 10” width deemed “not as useful” in this video.
Nice job!
Facebook market place is where it's at for used gear and weights too!! I also had no idea they made smaller plates than 45lbs. I always thought those things were door stops and coasters for my drinks. Nice Rogue fitness ad BTW
This was great
For some reason I wasn’t subscribed to your channel anymore I do not know why but I subscribed again.
I gave my rack and accessories to my son in law. Now Im looking for used🤯
great info
Starting a garage gym: the basic equipment
Best seller
Awesome. Killed it!
Dealing with fools with poor personal hygiene is the thing that made me build my home gym 😷💪😷💪
I didn't get this combo of plates mentioned - for infinite weight combinations you need (assuming 2.5lb per side increments and being most cost efficient) - 2 x 2.5lb, 4 x 5lb, 2 x 10lb, 2 x 25 lb, then as many 45lb pairs as you want.
My goodness, Mark Rippitoe is just nice to listen too. Oh right i need to build a gym at home thanks to covid right right right.
Once you have acquired the fundamentals, the next things to add. Multi grip pull up bar for your rack. A safety squat bar, because you are going to want to give your shoulders a break from benching and squatting with a straight bar every time. Either a GHR or reverse hyper, because everyone's weakness is the posterior chain and some speakers.
My grandpa welds
We're going to mesure a squat/power rack then build one for my brother
Btw, he had a bad back, any advise on a hip squat setup?
Thanks for editing this,
I perfer Calistenics myself but as a engineering student I love exploring what quality people like and why
Really explains a lot, I figured a Walmart set of weights would be the same weight as any other, glad to learn I was wrong.
Great video Coop. Have you toured the Starting Strength gym? Or conversed with Ripp?
I haven't toured their gym yet, I'd like to. One of my good friends is Matt Reynolds, he runs SSOC.
One point that seems dated is the part about the lack of affordable alternatives to the innacuracy of iron plates. The Rogue KG bumpers are pretty cheap and accurate to around +/- 1%.
All you need for home gym is a cardio machine(I got air bike) and Squat stand or power rack with adjustable bench(I got Rogue SML-1)
Somebody messes up at the gym
"As god as my witness he is broken in half!"- Mark Rippetoe
Have you seen or used the Sorinex functional cable column? Looks like it would be a good addition to my gym but haven’t seen any reviews on it
Tricked us. And no mustache now. Plus you are a Titan guy. Soo mad...just kidden, love the channel
Haha yep, mustache gone. The Wife was done with it.
Now he gonna grow a beard
To make it even better wood and steel is up 300 percent this year so yay
i like having one pair of bumpers becaus they are usually powerlifting and weightlifting competition size 450mm while iron plates can range from 400mm to 470mm
Thanks for the vid Coop! This helps a lot. I love hearing Mark talk. Although whenever he says bench, it sounds like he's saying bitch. LOL
How cool! I am in the video!
Can't wait to have a garage gym, or a house
In the video Mark says the bench should be 12" wide, which I agree. Why is the new SS bench 10" wide then? I know you are doing a review on it eventually, but 10" seems too narrow, especially for bigger lifters.
Does the gym featured at 7:58 have an instagram page associated? I really want to get details. Im in love with that rack and I must copy it ASAP!
What happen to LEO PANDO?
Him and COOP where my motivation to buy a rogue rack😎
This reminds me of Baz Lurhmann’s wear sunscreen 👍🏻
Glad someone else remembers that gem of the spoken word!
Clarence!
You can also make a very serviceable power rack out of wood and hardware if you aren't yet lifting 600+ lbs and are a little handy.
For serious bodybuilding and powerlifting a commercial gym is the best. It's also difficult to find room and slam weights around at home. A home gym is very different but great for martial arts and calisthenics. I do live home workouts on my channel.
What do you think about Titan Fitness? They are cheaper than Rogue it looks like, but I like some of the attachments they have. I specifically want a lat cable setup...the only problem is that I would prefer a flat footed rack and the lat setup they have on the T-3 is really what I want - it has guide rods and the weights slide up and down it just like in a commercial gym. The T-3 has to be bolted to the floor. The R-3 series is flat-footed, but from what I can tell, the lat set-up there is simply a cable with three attachment points from which your weights hand suspended in the air. This may be functional but it looks crazy unsafe.
Weightlifting is nuts it's one of those hobbies that's going to be studied on like 200 years. Like dawg their bars were fucking top of the line they were all cracked out on a powder called c4 and they lifted lots of weight. It's kinda sick
shout out to the weed socks at 7:16
I’ve ordered up everything on the list EXCEPT I have horse stall mats directly over my garage concrete pad and I bought all rogue bumper plates on an Ohio bar. Do I need to worry about a lifting platform or will my setup sufficiently protect my floor and equipment? Please answer from experience and I will prove the exception to the rule and actually listen.
Pro/Celebrity opinions tend to be idealistic (though based on long-standing experience), but let’s hear from someone who more closely represents the average (ok, Coop’s surpassed average) garage gym owner. I want to hear Coop The-Everyman’s-Man give his $.02 (though I think he’s done one or more of these before, but hey, it’s a new year and like the movie industry, When in doubt pump out a remake 😉) Edit - great work Coop, would almost like to see you do a video on how you make your videos 👍🏻
Awesome video!
Unless you’re lifting 800 lbs, you can go on Walmart’s website and build a gym for a few hundred bucks ($200 cage, $50 bar, $50 bench, $100 in plates/etc). Works just as well, and it’s super solid in my opinion.
thats what im thinking, all this equipment is overkill in 99% of cases
Hey Coop. I'm trying to build my garage gym. Missing dumbbells, I'm trying to get adjustable 150lb max. I'm from upstate NY, do tou know where I can look or get some
Also consider American Barbell Company for your barbell purchase. I do not work for them. I bought my plates through Rep fitness, and they are perfect.
