Building an Indoor Goldfish Pond

- Here is a progression video on how I made Obie and Jonathan's home. I took a lot of inspiration from:

I have 3 fantails and they are great. I have a planted tank which gets eaten but I believe as they are clever fish need areas to investigate, dig and destroy. So it's lovely to see this indoor pond and great that he now has a friend 🥰 great job 👍

WOW THAT TURNED OUT TO BE A BEAUTIFUL LITTLE POND. I HAVE 2 LARGE AQUARIUMS {150 + 75 GALLONS}. I HAPPEN TO HAVE A WATER TANK JUST LIKE THAT. NOW I HAVE A GOOD IDEA OF WHAT TO DO WITH IT. THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS. GOTTA GO. NEED TO GET OUT MY FISH TANK TOTES AND FIND SOME PUMPS AND STUFF TO GET STARTED.

Very cool setup! Love all the detail. You did a very good job setting this tub up. I have a video on my patio tub and I always wanted to build a box around it to cover up the ugly outside!
Careful! Ponds can smell if the water is not processing The Nitrogen Cycle in balance.

In the wild they can grow larger than 12 inches, a few grow to as much as 15 inches.

There are no “wild” goldfish. They are man made.
How expensive was this project, also do you ever have to do and water maintenance besides topping off the pond, or are the plants enough to keep up with the bio load?
The overall cost was probably $600-800 but could have been a little cheaper had I driven out to a farm supply store for the stock tank. As for water maitenance, the plants do help a lot! But I also change the water once a month using a 75ft python water hose hooked up to a sink.

I wanna do this for my 8 in goldfish jim and his koi buddy szeth, but I'm afraid my cat will get too excited. He already spends many hours looking at the fish through the glass.
I built a smaller one at home and I was worried about the same thing! Thankfully my cat is terrified of the indoor ponds and she stays away. Very lucky for my fish!

Yeah, I would likely bring them home and either move this structure or build a similar one at home.

The pond is still going strong! I have some newer footage of the pond, but I should do a more general update. The plants have really grown in, but I am struggling to get lily pads to work with goldfish... haha.
@@fgk205 I actually got the idea for my pond from photos of a turtle pond someone built. I'm sure it would work great!
@@PocketAimee yes!! This was an amazing build, and so much can happen after one year!
And also yeah, I think all my social media is flooded with pond diys and such right now. We bought a house last year and I plan to build a huge permanent pond outside that I can also winter over. Watching this actually sent me to the backyard to start planning things out haha

Considering how big they get, I don't even think 150 is big enough. Eventually i'll probably have to upgrade
