My Indoor Cichlid Pond - 400 gallons of Monsters

  • I’ve built a DIY 400 gallon indoor Cichlid pond. I’ve built this pond even lysing 2 x 4 lumber mixed with plywood lumber and a pond liner. This is a heated Cichlid pond that I’m keeping in my basement at around 77°F. I’ve had zero issues with the pond liner leaking and everything has been successful.
This is a great DIY bill for anyone looking to have a monster fish tank of large size. I needed a really big fish tank but I couldn’t afford the cost of one so I built a DIY pond that I put in my basement.
The biggest setback when building a indoor Cichlid pond like this is heating the water. Because I am heating this pond to a tropical water temperature my electrical bill is quite expensive monthly. I would advise anyone looking to do this Pineville to build the pond inside of a room into heat the room it’s self instead of the water in the pond.

We have 300g pond in our living room. It's a wood heated home in Québec Canada. I personally don't think you need to insulate the sides. Wood is pritty solid, and insulated itself.
Being that ours is in the loving room. We have natural light that gets to the point. This allows us to have plants in the waterfall and in the corners..
Your setup is great!! I wouldn't change it. Maybe if you go into a water pump situation, do a diy biofall with those plastic pot scrubbers from a dollar store..
We gotta build a1000g for some of the fish my guys brought in. They are going to get huge!!!

Seachem executives: "We've seen a 15% increase in sales of Prime. Does anyone know why?"
Meanwhile Chris has added tanks to the bathroom, kitchen and hallway 😂🤘

A few years ago o rescued a goldfish from a very small bowl and bought a 4x2x2 galvanized tib to serve as a small pond along with 3 small feeder fish to serve as friends to the rescued fish... unfortunately 2 of the fish turned out to be mislabeled koi. So im in the market for a bigger patio pond. And will probably have to rehome them eventually

I built one almost identical to that about 7 years ago, I kept my koi in it so I could feed them all winter, I’m thinking about making another one for my mbuna cichlids

Cost of lumber is crazy right now. But cool pond to build when lumber becomes at a reasonable price.

Maybe I missed it but why was there no water movement in the pond? Were any filters going?

You can fill so much more. The pond would benefit from insulation boards where beams are showing then cap it off and painting doesnt look nice like this

Hey bro. I'm in the process of building a pond for my oscars. They're giant and to big and I want them to have more space 125 not doing it. So question after all this time have you had any mold issues from the tank in the basement
