I would seriously consider missing my flight if I was walking through a terminal and none other than Jordan Rudess was playing a freaking grand piano live.
worse yet, can you imagine not being able to miss your flight and having to miss watching him play. I missed dt at a small venue in Florida they popped into in the early 90s. I'm kicking myself again nite having remembered that.
What's funny is back in the 90s when he had his first gig with DT in 94 and as a full member in 99 he had long black hair and a baby face, then somewhere down the road it just flipped.
Some things are a matter of taste. I don't feel he overplayed here in the least, unless you consider an outpouring of passionate energy as over playing. Some would. The composer Mahler was accused of being very bombastic and too dramatic. I just see him as an extremely passionate individual. My point is that a certain flare and intensity is really just a matter of taste.
I think many out there dont know that this guy is one in a million.... The wizard, the master musician, the god of keys, the one without whom dream theater is so incomplete... long live the maestro Jordan Rudess👍
Nah you could barely understand the song cuz it was just overboard on that generic showoff twinkling the keys. Now do some real blues piano and I'll be impressed.
Pure class! I was once walking/running (as you do) to get a subway in Stockholm, Sweden when I heard a violin playing somewhere further down the platform. I immediately knew that this was no ordinary guy/gal playing for coin because it was super intense! I moved towards the music and there was a pretty anonymous man, in his early 40's, playing the most beautiful classical music. It made me happy that so many people actually stopped - and stayed to listen! We all know how we rush during commuting every day and usually don't stop for anything... He played for about 30 minutes before just packing his violin and then left. Not before getting the most loud and genuine standing ovation though. The day after I read in the local news that a Russian violinist on tour had done it as a spur of the moment thing, and he was apparently super famous, although I can't remember his name since this was in the late 90's. This is something I still remember very much and he made so many of us be late to work that day - and not a single regret. Both young and old stopped to listen, all classes of life. I hope the people that heard and saw you playing at LAX have the same feeling and memories like I have from my improvised subway concert all those years ago! Pure class Jordan, pure class!
Seeing him play live is a must. Watching him perform with Dream Theater on his keyboard that rotates and tilts was pretty awesome. Everyone in that band is awesome
💯 agree!!! Is like a beautiful person all dressed up and ready to go out but when the my open their mouth to speak - they sound like a truck driver after a few drinks.
Imagine just walking by with nothing more than a quick glance. Dude's over here doing the piano equivalent of breaking some olympic record and you probably just think "huh, someone's playing the piano"
Rudess, thank you for taking a moment and displaying your talent in an airport. Apologize, for all those in attendance who where too preoccupied, than to take notice and appreciate the musicianship in front of them...

Last time I traveled from Vancouver I was lucky to be able to play the piano there and it was in better tune, although I'm no Jordan Rudess, so I stuck to Us and Them by the late Rick Wright of Pink Floyd and Joe Raposo Sesame Street music from the early 70s. I'd be floored to see Jordan Rudess on any piano unexpected.

So good for the first time playing...... And at an airport too.

Pretty sure he should play in a rock band!
@Johannes C dang, you ruined my joke 😎
The piano was so stressed out, because he had to give his very best sound to not disappoint Jordan.
All keys were harmed during the filming of this video.
Nope, he didn't play quite many of the black keys
