    This whole series rocked. Did it to my 2007 Quest. Didn't do spark plugs because they were relatively new. Took about 7 hours, but I am definitely an amateur.

      The project went very well except for the part where I didn't mark the rear coils correctly. I had to take the intake off again but no big deal. No more oil leak and she runs great with the new plugs. Thanks for the help!!

    thank you. one thing i think you should add is i believe you are supposed to LOOSEN the valve cover bolts in a special order also. Two of my rear valve cover bolts broke off when i was just trying to LOOSEN them!! I found out later that maybe you are supposed to go in a certain order. It took me days to drill out the broken bolts, and it doesn't look pretty either. I replaced the 2 broken ones with nuts and bolts from the hardware store.

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  8 років тому +1

      +Tom H The Nissan service manual do have a sequence to remove the bolts, and I did not follow it because the engine was cold and the valve cover was to be replaced. With your situation, not sure if it was replaced before by someone else and perhaps it was over tightened before. The torque spec for them should not have broken the bolts.

      +dial2fast i thought it was weird to break while loosening. bad luck. You're video was the by far the best, thank you. I hope to have quicker success on my dodge ram valve covers soon.

    I really just wanted to replace the spark plugs, but can't seem to find to find much on the net about it... And I can't even figure out where they are! Lol! After seeing your video, I was hoping that I wouldn't have to disassemble the entire window cowl, wiper motors, etc ...

    SOME TIPS:
    1. the gasket around the plugs was very snug in my Apex-branded valve covers such that they wouldn't seat; I wiped the gaskets with a little clean motor oil and they slid right now.
    2. the valve cover gasket itself tended to fall out of the groove in the cover, especially on the side that was the last to go in. Using a trick I learned on my Saab, I put a small (2-3mm) dap of RTV in the channel at the corners and near the bolt holes, then pushed the gasket into the RTV. Held just fine.

    shoot, I thought the 2007 Nissan Altima valve cover replacement was bad(removing bracket to engine mount) this takes the cake. Kia Spectra 2000 was just as simple as removing the all the bolts from uptop, no obstructions whatsoever. Seems like the newer the car the worse it gets...

    Thanks for the wonderful videos. Why was the valve cover replaced? Did I miss something along the way?

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  7 років тому +2

      Valve cover was replaced because of the gasket leaking due to age. Common problem on this engine. Also the valve cover has these sealed spark plug oring which you can't replace, so the whole cover needs to be replaced.

    • @silvernblackattach
      @silvernblackattach 7 років тому +1

      Thanks. I am amazed by the amount of work. I appreciate you posting the videos and at least now I don't have to figure it out when it comes down to it. I also appreciate that you mentioned the tools required and where you got them. If my gasket doesn't leak, then I'd be tempted to find find o-rings for rear valve cover (instead of removing and replacing the whole thing)....hopefully same o-ring as front valve cover.
      I am more than willing to modify my vehicles for future maintenance (or hot rodding for that matter:), but I don't see much where I would swap a bolt for a stud, or a stud for a bolt, or cut and weld a different bracket. I would be tempted to lengthen a few of those wiring leads though.
      Great job! Good thing these plugs last 100K miles.

      The few hours i spent on the net looking for replacement spark plug oring came up empty handed. Since this job is so involved and for a peace of mind so i dont need to worry about premature leaks, just get the oem valve cover and you are good for the next 100k. Also i spoke to a Nissan mechanic and he said at the dealer, they don't service the valve cover. They replace the whole thing also. One more thing, the new one comes with a new PCV valve with new o ring.

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  7 років тому

      My iniitial approach was also to take as little off as possible, but what you saw in my video is what I had to take off to get to it. The throttle body also has coolant lines running to it making it hard not to separate the the pieces. If you do remove the coolant lines, then it might be possible to remove it as one piece, but you will have to bleed your coolant system afterwards.

    Thank you for sharing this knowledge with the rest of us. i have a 2005 Quest with over 140k miles and it still has the original spark plugs. i was contemplating doing this job myself because of my lack of trust dealing with the dealerships service dept. (i have heard that they sometimes only change out the front three because of the amount of work involved). I have purchased NGK LFR5AIX-11 #4469 Iridium-ix. This are different from what you recommended. Can you advice me if i should be concerned. Thank you

      The 05 Quest also comes from the factory with NGK Platinum PLFR5A-11 plugs. I am not sure what is the difference with the one you got but it's best to stick with what the manufacturer use.

    Question - Is it necessary to replace the valve cover if I am just replacing my spark plugs?

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  2 роки тому

      If you are doing the spark plug service, then most likely your engine has 90,000+ miles and the gasket on the valve cover is old and possibly starting to crack. So it's best you replace it or else you might have engine oil leak.

    is it 13264-7Y010 (front)

    • @dial2fast

      13264-7Y000 (Cover Assy-Valve) is for the back one by the firewall, and that's the one I changed in the video. I will assume your other part number is for the front as I did not buy that one.

      VVSH07E I have not changed the front one and because the front one is so easy to get to, I will change it if needed. The back one is first to go because of more heat with so much cramped at the back. The gasket that I pulled out on that back gasket was really hard and rubbery anymore. I also spoke to a Nissan mechanic and he said the back one is the one they always replace.

    A word to the wise. I'm still wrestling with this 05 quest and trying to torque the valve covers down now. I'm on my second (this one was brand new) AZ loaner torque wrench trying to do 17" inch pounds with the fear of breaking the bolt head off....i'm just gonna go by "that should be tight enough" now...There is no way i could go 4X that much.
    In hindsight i would pay 12 million Dollars to have someone else do the repairs and when they finished and when they finish Gift them the Vehicle as a tip...

      It's probably a small leak from the spark plug tube seal that's on the valve cover. You should replace the valve cover which comes with the rubber seal molded into it.
