Newly Updated Range Technology AFM DFM Disabler: Will It Work Now? (Giveaway Info!)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лют 2025
- After trying the previous version of the Range Technology's AFM Disabler for the past few months, I have ordered and received the newly updated version that is advertised as working on DFM 5.3L and 6.2L GM engines. I take this product out for a test drive to see if it really has been improved. The previous model would work intermittently because it was not optimized for the updated 2019 GM engines.

I’ve had this device on my 2016 lt for 4 years(.sold the truck) and not a single issue with it,my truck was running 8 cylinders all the time ,the buyer took the truck to the mechanic for his opinion and mechanic guy was impressed how healthy that truck was.. I will get one for my 2020 Lt in few days.
Just bought one and installed it on my 2020 Silverado, it's a night and day difference, it's as if I have a new truck, the power and shifting are amazing now. This device made me fall back in love with my truck. I bought a V8 to be a V8. Just turned 50k and it's as if it just drove off the lot.
Been waiting to hear about the DFM update to come out ever since I saw your video on the AFM specific model. Thanks for this. Looking forward to your update video which will help me decide to buy or not.
Yes main reason I got one was to prevent engine wear. I really didn’t notice it going into v4 much but right after I bought it new I read about the damage that deactivating cylinders can cause so I got one. That being said I think truck is smoother and has more punch quicker. Also like the way it shifts better when I push trailer mode button. Sure it gets worse gas mileage but transmission doesn’t shift as much and it just seems stronger. If I go on highway I would turn off trailer mode of course but I rarely get on highway.
Gm should just give options, like being able to turn all that stuff off.
I agree
I have one in my “15” Silverado and have had it for about a month and I’ve never had any problems with it
I have a 2015 Silverado, thinking about getting one the truck had 84,000 mi on it and the lifters went and ended up having metal in the engine so GM gave me a new engine. I bought it used and only put 46 miles on it. Do you still have it? Does it throw codes up like some people are writing?
Will it work on a2016 LT 5.3
Hi Kevin I took Your Advice and Purchased a Range Deactivation Device For My 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 And let me tell you the power and Acceleration is there I'm I'm very happy with the device thankyou for your videos this is a great channel i watch the channel all the time please keep up the great work ill be looking for some more good stuff.
That’s awesome! Thanks!
I’m gonna give this a shot my 2017 Cadillac Escalade 6.2 engine is completely tore down 4 bent push rods 4 stuck valves and 2 bad lifters and a bad cam should be finished next week I will order this to hopefully prevent this from happening again the cause was from Dfm and direct injection carbon build up thanks for the review
What exhaust you running, man?Sounds great!
Hey Kevin I have a Range Technology AFM in my 2018 chevy silverado 1500 5.3L and I had it over 5 yes now..And I like to get the new truck and one for it to.
I'm pretty sure that, in the Trip A and Trip B screens on the DIC, there is an indicator that shows it going in and out of V4 and V8. Just a FYI.
It does in the 2018 and older but the new generation 5.3 for 2019+ will disable all but 1 cylinder at times.
Good video!
DFM doesn't bother me near as much as the auto stop.
I think I'm going to buy the auto stop disabler
The DFM disabler makes it so my auto start/stop doesn't work anymore. Killed 2 birds with one stone.
You can push the button on that but you need this i got one and its money worth spent..
The DFM engines are known for dropping lifters when in the v4 mode.. It's a very expensive fix...I had a 2009 that it happen to and was $3500 to fix & I got lucky that it didn't take out the cam or else your talking $5000-6000 to repair...I just bought a new truck and will be using the Range Technology in it also... I've had a GM dealer tell me it's the smartest thing I can ever do ..
When the Range is connected ... and you press the gas ... does your Range light change? and when you brake it returns to normal? I bought one and turned on the last light and when I accelerated it turns on the full bar, I brake and the corner light remained, I accelerated and turned on all the light of the range again
I’ve noticed this also at night. It must engage and then disengage when the truck is idling.
Will this fit in our 2019 gmc Sierra SLT 5.3 liter V8? I figured it should because Chevy and GMC are the same. Thanks for your video.
Yes will fit no problem
What happens when you use the range and run the transmission in L7 with an 8 speed transmission in a 2019 Chevy Silverado truck
To be honest, I never tried that before I traded.
Does anyone know if the disabler goes in upside down?
What is the difference between the red, green and blue ?
just the color.
I installed it today and my Chevy APP gave me 5 new alerts. No dash lights turned on. I took it off and the alerts went away. Is this normal? Should I worry.
2019 Chevy Silverado custom Trailboss
Ah ok. The 2019 Custom Trail Boss actually came with the 2018 5.3L that has the older active fuel management and not the new dynamic fuel management. AFM goes between 4 and 8 cylinders, while DFM can have 18 variations of cylinder deactivation. I'm not sure if the newest Range module is only for DFM or if it can do both. You might want to check and see which version you bought.
I have 2016 gmc seirra with 56000 miles. It just dropped a lifter in cyl. #5. It was 3 months out of warranty. I bouht the truck from Bell & Bell GMC in Little River, SC.. They replaced my cam, liffters and oil pump. They took care of me and only charged me $800 for every thing.
Holy shit I think that's somewhere around a$3,500 job
It’s g because your Gm warranty covers it
@@claddagh1000 The warranty was expired but I think I had the problem during the warranty period.
I have gmc sierra, and just got onstar and started using the app, the app claims the emissions and transmission and few other things need service, it just updated, do you think my range could be causing it to throw codes?
I doubt that it would. I also had onstar and I never had any trouble codes pop up in the app.
Does your truck crackle and pop during deceleration after plugging in the Dfm disabler ? I got mine and it really cracks and pops when I let off the gas kinda annoying . I just have a magnaflow muffler swap .
Mines does the snap, crackle, pop too after installing! I’ve got a Borla s-type catback and an air intake. It’s cool here and there but it’s constant popping say going down a hill at slower speeds less than 30mph. I’m hoping the ECU learns and decreases the amount of gas so it burns all of it in the combustion chamber rather than in the exhaust system. Anybody having the popping after driving it for a week or more?
Rod M. It just kept doing it . I actually sold my range module and went back to a stock muffler . You would have to tune the pops out ,which would void your warranty .
@@vdg_loc3266 dummy now the lifters are bound to fail and cost you so much more than just an annoying noise from your exhaust
@@rodneymarquina9600 Get a truck exhaust.. not a car exhaust, im using a range on my 6.2 with a K&N blackhawk/magnaflow catback.. no pops, crackles etc.. just a nice, consistent throaty exhaust..👌
Glad it is working out. Mine arrives tomorrow. Let you know how it works out.
Had the disabler for a day. I feel like it works well, it seems to noticeably work when I am coming to slower speeds. It doesn't kick into 4 cylinder like it did. The start is a bit smoother but still some shifting for lack of a better word. I have never had a truck before so maybe it's typical. Overall I am happy for sure. Will be doing some more comparison this week with and without it to really see the difference. Looking forward to hearing how you like yours.
Catch11 any update on your experience so far? Would like to know what you think after a month.
Christopher the range module is trash . It’s not perfect so you still get lil stutter here and there . My rpms would go up and down cruising and my engine bay started smelling like burnt plastic .
When you let off the gas peddle can you still hear it
Seeing thats an emission control system thats basically tampering with it. Surprised the EPA isn’t all over that
Great video let us know how it works
Great videos keep them coming! 🤙
What kinda mufflers ?
Don’t sound to good do they.
I have a2019 corvette will this work and not throw a code
The website says it will. I would recommend calling Range Technology to be on the safe side to make sure
Kevin's Auto Channel thanks
Is yours working fine
Has anyone used warranty after installing one of these? Can they tell you have used one of these
That is a key question!!!
What did you put on for your after market exhaust? Make...cat-back?
I just changed the muffler out. ua-cam.com/video/XjOvcmFI2Ts/v-deo.html
Wow great video thank you
Subscribed. Great video
Does it turn off the freaking auto start stop
I will have to test that. I have a habit of turning the auto start/stop off as soon as I start the truck
I just installed my AFM DISABLER on my 2019 Silverado but I don’t see any improvement in the gears / performance.. the only thing I know is that the auto start stop has been disabled.. unfortunately the info screen does not show V8 vs. V4.. Is there a way to know if it’s working as advertised?
If you haven’t modified your exhaust the truck is very quiet so it will be hard to tell. You might be able to tell if you are coasting down a hill and the get back on the accelerator
Very informative
Good Video
Love the vid 👍🏼
Very interesting information. I want one now!
Ray
I used the range device for almost two years and it always worked. It gave me peace of mind knowing that I didn’t have to worry about cylinders deactivating and risking bending a push rod. I traded my truck recently for my dream Mustang GT.
Any updates?

This is a 5.3 with DFM
Like your truck
Thank you!
Truck to move better with da Range D-abler .
Makes a nice barbecue grill
The sound doesnt bother me. The longevity of the engine is what bothers me. I dont care about about 1 to 2 mpg savings. Trucks shouldn't be used as every day drivers if you are concerned with fuel mileage. Since GM has come out with the AFM and DFM engines, many have been trashed between 80 to 120k miles when this system acts up. We are looking at a new 2021, and I will modify that 5.3 to run like my 2005 5.3 Sierra which still runs great at 170k miles. GM should be embarrassed to come out with garbage like this.
You can thank the EPA for the regulation.
I have a 2020 Trailboss 6.2 , the drone doesnt bother me. I dont even notice it. Also please educate yourself on DSM it's nothing like ADM was. What you have there is basically the old " Ebay chip " except its hundreds of dollars now.
What's DSM & ADM?
I bought one and its a v8 now
Like a patient on medication
I was like I know that hotspot. SC baby sparkle city
you know it lol
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 30+ minute video with so little content and no review/option on the end. Whew. 🤦♂️
lol
Thanks for the response jk
Look at that gas price. $1.49. only a year ago. Let's go Brandon.
