Installed my Range two years ago. So far so good!🤞
I've been using this unit for 6 yrs and I've never unplugged it in that time...never had a problem with battery drain even when parked for 1 to 2 weeks at a time.
Any transmissions issues? I heard it ruins transmissions. Save lifters ruin tranny can't win
Thats what I want to know.@@RednGold10
I have a 2017 GMC and had no lifers issues now I only have 36000 km.. I have purchased the Range chip and have had it plugged in for 2 days and I can definitely feel the difference as far as I’m concerned it’s preforming better!!! Very impressed and it’s only been 2 days 👍🙂
I love mine too!!! Have one in 3 different vehicles! lol
hey guys is you RANGER chip or plug.!! when you turn off truck is the chip turns off.??
l hear people said the chip stay on all time even when truck is off.!!
how your works.?? please
@@jose66729 I don’t know if mine stays on or not but my truck sets weeks at a time with it plugged in and it never ever drains the battery
And I don’t start it….
@@jerryfollett310 ok thanks jerry…because mine turns off when truck turn off.!
just try to making sure is doing the jop
right.!!
Got my 2 years ago and still running awesome 2011 GMC sierra 1500 5.3
How many miles did it have on it when you installed the module ?
I have the same model but it has high miles and am not sure if it’s a great idea to install after not having it for 170k?
Just got mine today mine at 137k 2012 sierra 5.3 see how it goes so far was good on the high way stayed in v8 all the way around town and back home.
Thanks. I got a 2008 sierra 5.3 with high miles and looking at getting one while i get ready to do the whole afm delete process. How is everyones running long term?
Buy this for your truck, thank you sir. It works amazing, love the feeling of the truck now. 2012 Silverado and yea it is stupid simple to install.
This little plug and play is a God Send I put this on my 13 Suburban with 143k on it now has 174k on it and even without doing anything to the afm lifters it's greatest plenty of power its best thing since sliced bread! If you've got a 5.3 made after 06 You need to get this today you wouldn't be sorry!
It really is a great product.
2014 Tahoe ppv. It does work. All you said is absolutely true. Recommend 💯
Thank you brother!
Hey Chris, great video. I just bought one of these for my 18 G.M.C. 1500. Watched your vid and a couple of others before installing. Just went for a ride after plugging it in and could immediately tell the difference. Throttle response is way better. My truck has a Flowmaster on it so I could always hear when it went from V8 to vacuum cleaner mode. Thanks again for your clarity in the video.
Glad it helped!
How many miles before you installed? Thanks
I had one on my 2017 HC 6.2L it worked great. Also the truck sits for months at a time and it never drained the battery, just wanted the public to know. I sold Range and did a Trifecta tune and had AFM deleted. Great video. Cheers
Trifecta tune? What is it? Who can do one? How much does it cost? Thanks.
Hows the truck running now?
They are great for longevity as well. Your transmission and lifters will last a lot longer because the torque converter won't be locking out and the lifters won't be collapsing and expanding causing wear and tear on everything.👍
Thank you very much
Awesome video, just ordered this for my new to me 2018 Escalade. Hope Amazon actually ships it to California 🙏
Do you have to wait for the lights to go out on each start up?
I have one of these in my 2020 Acadia, Works Great!
I just pop it off when it goes to the dealer. I permanently was able to shut off the Cylinder Deactivation in my 2016 Silverado with the programmer. Truck is so much smoother without it. Neither the Acadia or the Silverado are sitting around trying to pick how many cylinders first, and then a gear, I hate AFM!!!
I've had mine installed for a year now and not an issue! Hopefully this is some preventative maintenance for lifter failure as well as the infamous torque converter issue, and i do 3000-3500 mile oil changes. I plan on this 2017 Silverado to b the last truck i buy! Lol. With a prayer and a lot of hope
I have been using my Range for several years now and it does do the job for deactivating the AFM system. The only issue I have is that it seems to prevent the emissions drive cycles from being completed as well as preventing certain check engine codes from being turned on. You have to pull it off and run it to see the check engine codes.
Awesome! Glad I could help! Make sure to SUBSCRIBE! It really helps the channel!
If you have to do a yearly emissions test make sure to unplug it a couple of days before your test
Or just the day of will be fine. You just don't want to have anything plugged into the OBD2 Port when taking it in for inspection. Great comment! Thank you!
@@cdarnau i have unplugged mine in the parking lot of the inspection station and it wouldn't pass. I have to put a few drive cycles on it for the computer to clear everything so it will pass
@@dwa3093 I wonder why that would be. It does not change any of the program information in the module itself only sends an input that doesn't allow the system to enter 4 cylinder mode. I am very curious now to see why that is. I am calling my contact at the company to find out why. I will update you when I have more information.
can use on a 2019 Silverado 5.3 that i used with non DOD cam and lifter swap to short ones. with the valley cover disconnected since I removed the solenoids ?
GM had the 8 - 6 - 4 cylinder thing on some Cadillacs years ago and it was nothing but problems then. Can't imagine why they tried this again and are STILL using it. It's a trash system that can cost you a TON of money when it fails.
EPA needs to get their nose out of everyone's business.
Epa is the real reason. Engineers trying to keep the EPA happy
Great review man. Mine is arriving today I can’t wait to check it out.
Thanks! I am sure you are going to love it! I have one on all of my farm vehicles and my in-laws vehicles. They really are a life saver! Thank again for watching!
@@cdarnau update!!! It’s awesome!!!
@@theliltroy85 - Update? Many thanks... cheers.
Anyone new reading this they now make one called boost which is much cheaper and still made in USA and doesn’t drain the battery.
This is a good one too
I have a 2014 with a six speed. Will the truck still go in 6th gear for the best gas mileage with the range plugged in? Just want to be sure it will limit my gearing and keep me in 5th gear.
Thanks
Yes, it will still go into 6th gear. I also have a 2014 w/six speed. Been using the Range about 3 yrs.
Are the lights supposed to remain on? I plug mine in, the lights will come on, flash for a moment, then go off.
No. It does not have to stay on.
@@cdarnau Thank you!
I ave a 2012 Avalanche from new, and I have been putting mine in manual for city driving. While it works, I am getting tired of doing it, and of course, on the highway, even in manual and you put it in 6th gear, it will still activate AFM. So this will do the exact same thing without doing that manual trick? I dont think I have any lifter issues, etc since I have no engine issues that I know. Would I cause any issues to my truck if I install one now after 10 years of ownership? Truck has 175K on it, and plan on keeping the truck for many years.
Will that same module work on 6 cylinder engines also or will that require a different module ?
I love it. No problems with it. MPG is good
I wish I found this before my lifters got trashed, 5,150 dollars later im buying one
Did you get like can rattle noise while accelarating?
New motor cost less than that.
What was your first symptom that you got. I am getting a flashing check engine light and it goes away now I have a light. Did yours run super rough? Mine sounds smooth still but the auto start won’t work
Yes its your lifters going to shit mine just went to shit i didnt no bout this v6 v8 mode shit with gm lol so now im disabling it getting the delete kit from texas speed performance in Georgetown tx only 30 mins away so yeh 188 for the main kit and they got a sell labor day
Great video and channel, I subscribed. Just got a 1500 2012 with 57k on it. I love this truck and I want it to last.
Has the device been reliable after 3 years? Thank you for your time!
Thank you man! I really appreciate it! I have not had an issue at all with mine. I also have them on my wife’s vehicle and both of my farm vehicles. No issue to date.
@@cdarnau thank you for replying, I am going to buy one tomorrow
So which one is it the ra003g or is it the ra003 model im confused the one u got is 198 and the one u added rhe link too is 189 but not the same as the one u show in ur video
Would that work on a2007 Yukon Denali??
I had an oil leak from the shaft of the vacuum pump, so I was planning on taking it off and plugging the holes in the block. I installed the Range afm disabler , and the stop leaked. I'm still gonna delete the vacuum pump, but I wanted to ask if disabling the afm makes the vacuum pump not be needed any more? Why would the leak stop? I checked the engine oil level, and it's well in the normal range.
The vacuum pump is needed for the brakes.
i use a Diablo Sprint for my Chev Camaro SS and it works great I'm sure if i switch to the Range , it would do the same
Does this work on 06 models with 5.3(dod)
Will this work for a 07 Suburban LTZ?
Where can I buy one
So it’s different prices on amazon does the cheapest works too or how I choose?
There is a link in my description. The less expensive ones only disable the AFM. They don't fix throttle response or anything.
Could I get this for my 08 chevy Impala Lt with 3.9 V6
My 2019 Sierra enables at red lights about once every week or so. Other than that the Range does its job. So, it hiccups every now and then.
Question. My Tahoe has a failed lifter 167k on the motor. Obviously it’s the afm. I keep hearing about the delete. If I change all the lifters myself and then installed the range device would that work? Or do I need to do the delete? Thanks
No need for the delete once this is installed.
I have a 2021 Tahoe... Any news when the Range AFM will be out for newer trucks?? I heard they are still in development due to 10 speed trans.
I drive in M5, maybe you could drive in M9 to stay in V8
Will my truck shift thru all 6 gears or does the Range keep you in V8 mode thru 5th gear only?
It tricks the ECM into thinking there's a higher engine load than their really is. It won't affect your gas mileage but it sure as hell makes your throttle response snappier
It still goes into all 6 gears, just doesn't let it go into 4 cyl mode.
Do you know if I have problems with my warranty if I install it?
You shouldn’t plus You can remove it whenever you want and it goes back to factory settings 👍🏽
Does this device work with custom ECU firmware? I have tuned ECU to disable cat O2 sensors. Could you please advise...
Yes it works :)
Excellent Video. Purchased for my 2020 Silverado
Thank you so much for watching!
Question. Why would anyone get a DOD delete if they could just buy this?
More performance from different camshaft and tuning options.
Do any big box auto stores sell it? Or only online?
I got mine on Amazon arrived in 2 days. 2 week back order on the range site. Same price on both $198.99
I have only seen them online. I recommend Amazon. amzn.to/2SCejzR
Going to try it out but worried about the antifreeze smell I have when exiting my 2019 Silverado no leaks just strong smell .Had same thing happen on my 2019 ram antifreeze smell engine was toasted on it .
Question, would putting it in sport mode turn off the AFM/DOD? I know putting it in L/5 does. Thanks.
Unfortunately no. Putting it in manual/L does though!
@@cdarnau thank you for the answer. I have a 2020 Silverado 5.3, I looked on the Range website and they only showed up to ‘19. I’ll keep checking back I guess.
What about a 2019 Acadea with the V-6 ?
I am not sure. You would need to reach out to Range about that. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!
Does the vehicle have to be turned off before you plug it in or can it be running and you plug it in
Someone else did a vid on the same product and he said to have it turned off and wait to turn it on until it stops blinking and the light stays solid or it will cause the check engine light to trip.
I'm wondering if it voids the warranty after installing.
@@undertow4629 I don't have any problems with the ones I use and I have them in 3 vehicles. Have not had a check engine light yet. BUT, I leave them plugged in all the time.
It's best to plug in with the car turned off😁
Will this work on pontiac gxp 5.3
I am not sure. I will reach out to the company and let you know asap!
Will it work in a suburban?
Yes sir.
@@cdarnau FKNG AWSOME I BOUGHT A NEW ENGINE FOR MY 08 suburban I will make sure I order this before I take it for a drive lol
2018 and older.
Will this work on a 2022 Camaro LT1?
Yes! The one I have listed in the description will work on a 2022 Camaro LT1.
I bought one to save my lifters but ic alot of people saying this range ruins your transmission so idk what a pain. Why cant thry just make things to last anymore
I have ever heard that. I am not sure how the AFM could cause your trans to fail. Not saying it couldn't. Many things can cause your trans to fail. Heat being the most common thing.
@@cdarnau hey thanks for the reply. Yeah I'm not sure either im no mechanic that's for sure. They all they after plugging it in it makes the truck shift much harder.idk the logic behind it idk how it how works but seems to be the only complaint ic about range. Is the hard shifts and ruin the tranny. Other than that I haven't seen any other complaints researching this item
They also only complain about the down shifts no issue shifting up
@@RednGold10 No problem. I love learning new stuff and if it causes a problem I have a direct line to the company I can call to give them feedback. I haven't noticed that and I have it on all my vehicles. I am not sure if I am just use to it or what. It's possible that they were having issues with the trans prior to install and this just makes it more noticeable? I have been running mine for the last 3 years and my trans still has not failed. Watch me walk outside and drive today and the trans fall out. Lol
@@cdarnau lol well gives me more confidence to use mine when it comes in the mail. Cause it definitely saves the lifters per everything ive seen. So I guess hopefully I have no issues with downshift!
Nice solution...... GM Wake Up!
I promise you GM does not want to have AFM on their vehicles. This is what they have to do in order to meet government regulations. GM would rather put a non AFM engine in a vehicle and save the money on the programming, expensive lifters and all the components required to operate it properly and still sell the vehicle at the same price. This is what GM and all manufactures have to deal with to meet EPA / Fuel Mileage guidelines. It's really quite sad.
"how do you keep your truck from dropping to 4cyl mode?"
You keep that pedal to the floor buddy.
then i would enter maximum speed :( I can shift it into M4 to disable the AFM but it disables the Overdrive sun gear so i lose like 2 city-7 hwy with out the Sun OVERDRIVE gear..
so the engine runs at about 2,000 RPM at 60mph instead of 1400 rpm with the SUN overdrive gear (this gear is worth 7MPG on the highway)
“How’d you lose your license?”
“I ran a few red lights, pedal to the metal baby”
This doesn’t keep a lifter from failing. If the VLOM fails, a lifter will fail anyway. I’ve had two failures on a 2016. None on a 2010 and I’ve run the range on both for years.
I'm about to tear into a 2010 Silverado i just bought for $1500. Has the collapsed lifters, after I fix it... hopefully. There's a range on fb marketplace but it was used on a corvette... would that still work?
Absolutely. I am sorry I didn't respond sooner. Hope you purchased it.
No, but I managed to fix it and it's still working almost a year now, according to this post. I disconnected the brake booster electrical lead as per some other web info.. I think that canceled the afms. I don't notice a lag or here a weird humming sound from the muffler.
Does it really works on 2019/2020 Chevy silverado 5.3l with DMF system?.
No
Worked fine on the one in the video.

@@342boss I'm really not sure. I just plugged it in to a new body vehicle and it didn't allow it to work when I had it. Maybe it was a fluke? Not sure.
Hi my 2016 Yukon suv has 150k miles. Is it ok to do this now or it’s too late?
Will work fine, Better late than never.
it's too late when the lifter gets stuck :(
I spoke to RANGE and they don't have one for the 2021 models yet. My GMC Sierra at 4800 miles already needed a cylinder, valves, rod etc replacement :/
In the video I used it on a 2020 and it worked fine. I don't know why it wouldn't work on a 2021. Same software I would assume.
@@cdarnau I thought that too, but contacted RANGE just to be sure, their CR said nope it won't work in the 2021. They are currently working on one for the 2021 year. Just wanted to let folks know what they told me. Thanks for the video!
just drive your truck in M manual drive 5th gear to deactivate your AFM.
@@oldbiker9739 or just drive it in reverse.
@@cdarnau that will work too . lol
Hello sir. Is there any chance that dealer can deactivate this v4 bul sheet. Range technology can so maybe they can to?
No sir. The only way is to keep it in manual. GM doesn't recommend disabling it.
Does GM have shares in Range Technologies? Sad they can not produce an engine without complications after so many years in business. Make work project!
Not sure really. LOL. Make sure to SUBSCRIBE! It really helps the channel!
Good video and review !
How can I get one those?
amzn.to/3M2CEX5
I got one for my 2020 Chevy Silverado so I could put an exhaust on it now that I put on the exhaust I can hear it still shifting into v4 or what ever it’s doing . It starts sounding like a helicopter inside at slow speeds
Exactly, I hate the helicopter v4😭
Should have just dropped her into manual mode
This device only work up to 18
Do you have the 10 speed transmission?
No mine is the 8 speed and I had this problem with the range disabler so I called the company and they said they’ll send me a new one and the new one is doing the same thing so idk I just put my truck in L7 now and it stays in v8
awesome video, thanks for sharing
Why don’t people complaint the GM to start making this damn motor fuel management is the shit or at least GM should have a switch in the vehicle that allows the owner to decide if he wants it or not if I could afford an Escalade I don’t care about gas
Either Range or a new engine!
If only for the throttle response the range is a great investment.
excellent review
I’ve herd this will help on oil usage as well . If you have plug that has be changed more often. Like once year . Is that a lifter problem ? Number 1 plug I just bough AFM disabled want make sure safe to use

Had small oil leak I tracked it down it’s the left valve cover gasket so good time to change all . Thank you very much
Great video
Does this have an affect on transmission temps? Because to my understanding it tricks the computer to think it’s under load so it won’t drop the cylinders.
On the HWY it’s good but in the streets it shoots my transmission temps pretty high
I am curious about this. How high is it getting? Both of mine are not getting over 215 unless I am pulling something.
@@cdarnau I sent it in for an update I should get it back on Tuesday I’ll keep you updated.
@@cdarnau so I just got it back and it’s been great. I don’t know what the temps would be without a cooler since I installed a mishimoto 13 row cooler. But nowhere trans temp sit about 125° on a 70° day.
The magic question is, will using this product cause a GM dealership to deny powertrain warranty if you end up having a lifter failure anyway?
The Magic answer is. Remove it before taking it to the dealership and don't offer information. Let them just fix the vehicle. =-)
Just unplug.. this module leaves no trace for it does not reprogram or tune anything..
What if you already have a lifter that's collapsed
Check out my lifter replacement video... then buy one of these. =-)
has no affect your lifters can still fail! Check your facts .
Lifters can always fail for any reason. This device keeps them from activating and causing an AFM failure which is what the title and information of this video is about. My facts are 100% spot on. Your English and grammar on the other hand… But please, go back and watch the video again. Make sure the information is 100% spot on. Show it to your friends and family. Make sure they agree with you that my facts are incorrect. Whatever Social media you have please show your limited angry audience to see if I am incorrect. When you're at work... show them and have them come on here as well and let me know how incorrect I am. I really need all the feedback I can get to make sure my facts are correct. So please... get some more opinions, come back and let me know. Thanks again for watching!
@@cdarnau i used pulsar for a year and my lifters failed.
@@rcan08 Anything can fail. The roller on the lifter can go bad. The spring could break. The oil passage could get debris and block. This keeps the AFM from activating. The reason AFM activation causes failure is because some times they will not reopen or expand because of an internal failure on the AFM system. This keeps the AFM mechanism from operating so the lifters do not collapse and fail which is the most likely failure in an AFM system. If you purchase this could a lifter fail. Absolutely. Will it be AFM related which is a higher percentage of failures than a roller, spring or oil passage failure? Absolutely not. This will keep AFM from causing your lifter to fail.
Another question how can you tell if you have a lifter that has collapsed and will not come back up ?
If the cylinder is skipping and you remove the valve cover with the engine running. (be careful not to put your hands near any moving components) the cylinder that has a collapsed lifter, the rocker arm will not be moving.
It will also feel like a miss since one cylinder, possibly more, will not have fuel in the cylinder…
@@badkarma6181 What?
@@cdarnau
Well when doesn’t work and stuck, even one cylinder, that cylinder doesn’t fire thus feeling like a miss. Maybe you call it a skip. But if it’s doing that and the ignition system is in order, one to four cylinders will not be firing…
You will have misfire. If you've never experienced a misfire, it basically feels like ur engine is choking, no power, a lot of vibrations and CEL turns on. Believe me, you will know. I had a collapsed lifter, removed head and replaced. 2 weeks later, another lifter collapsed, did the same job all over again but bought the range afm disabler this time. Have never had an issue again. Definitely recommend.
The engine on my 15 silverado blew up at 75k...I went n bought an 18 silverado n traded it in. If I knew about all these lifter issues back in 2015, I'd be driving a different vehicle. No more Gm vehicles for me.
I just got mine and when coming to a stop I feel and tump when breaking and idea why this is ??
You have the hard downshift issue that plagues all the 6l80s and 8l80s. I got it too and the dealer won't do jack shit about it
