- At a Rome book launch filmmaker Martin Scorsese asked Pope Francis about how the elderly can help guide young people in troubled times. "It seems that the world is marked by evil. We also see the painful human failings of the institution of the church itself. How can we, elderly people, strengthen and guide the young in what they've got to go through yet in life? How, Holy Father, can the faith of a young woman or man survive in this maelstrom?"
Scorsese:
What should we do in times of great and dire suffering? What should do when the clutches of incarnate evil are at our doorsteps to steal from our holy and full lives? How should combat the immense suffering we have come to face almost each and every day of this unending struggle for joy?
Pope:
Cry
3:43 And that girl: Wtf is this dude talking about?
You people's understanding is limited. And this is a Muslim telling this.
I know you are just joking around, but like, c'mon man.
as i was hearing the answer, i got the feels and the waterworks were starting to overflow but this is a valuable lesson. a valuable lesson indeed
0:12 I don't know why but my brain though he was gonna say "holy fuck" for a minute there lol
lmao i dont know if i'd have thought it but i did after reading this
As someone who grew up in the Catholic Church and is still officially a member even though i don't believe, I really appreciate Pope Francis and the way he speaks to us. He respects people who ask him questions.
Except if you are an orthodox devout Catholic that believes in scripture and doctrine then he blacklists you. See Vigano where he says that he won’t say a single word. He is a heretic
I feel the very same way.
Can the church be relevant in the modern world, and if so how? Scorcese has been struggling with this concept for decades, he made a whole movie about it -- Mean Streets. I am reminded of Harvey Keitel, holding his hand over a candle in church, so that he can understand the fires of hell.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Scorcese: Halp, people are mean
Pope Francis: lul cry more, noob
In all seriousness though this is a great lesson in humility and emotional control
The Pope is up there doing a crossword puzzle while he's talking. Realizes the word is "weep". Everyone claps. lol
Scorsese speaks. Pope continues to do paperwork.
Pretty sure he is reading translation.
I realise the complete ineptitude in what I'm about to do, but

Considering he made that trash Silence , he should be excommunicated .
To each their own
We can’t start by taking your movies out of the hands of children and cleaning them up. You have more blasphemy in your movies than any director
Wtf
His films reflect the world we live in. They are honest. That is important. You don't solve the problems we face by hiding from them.
Besides, his films are decidedly not for children, and are often rated for ages 17+. If your children see his films, that is on you as a parent.
Why is that Pope surrounded by children, don't leave them alone with any of the priests
I see what you're saying given the church's reputation, but if you look into his background, Francis himself doesn't seem like a person who became a priest to abuse at all, and besides, he took much more aggressive steps to root it out and prevent it than previous popes (especially the last one). I say this all as someone who isn't religious, and critical of the catholic church by the way.
