I absolutely love Phil X. I have been following him for better than 10 years and he always has such a fantastic energy, sense of humor, raw talent, all while remaining completely humble. I am so stoked to see him get all the spotlight he deserves.
I dig Phil’s philosophy on gear and keeping it simple. I hope Friedman will put this in a 20W version one day. For me the 100W would be like owning a Ferrari and only able to drive 55mph.
That was my 1st thought, 20 amp and I’ll sell my Harley to get it. Phil is awesome and I love how he uses his equipment instead of adding a tone of effects.
I concur. However..........have ya tried the new ( well, still fairly new ) Marshall SV20 ( studio Plexi )? It cleans up really nice ( much better than it's sister that's a downsized version of the JCM 800 ), and man, does it sound & feel like the real deal, only much more useful. I did, and I'm here to tell you, I love that little amp's tone more than my 50w JCM 800 and 100w JCM 900. Don't be misled by many of the demo videos here on youtube. Some know how to properly demo the amp.......but most do NOT. I challenge anyone to go play one for themselves, and not fall in love with it. A lot of the amp is hand-wired, and 100% made in England, no out-sourcing. Comes as a head or combo.
100 W Amps are good for arenas only these days. And lets face it, who of us is going to play venues that large? And even if that really happens, we could just have our small amps mic'd. That's not to say that Friedman amps are not excellent amps and I'd really dig a low watt version of this.
No joke..... When was doing Fretted Americana videos he used an old Magnatone amp and people were asking for a replica to be made. They hooked up with John Kasha & got one done, and then Phil did videos demo'ing the comparison between his old amp and the new replica. Those videos were so damn good I ordered one and waited for it to ship. The fact was, I had confidence with what I was hearing, Phil's playing is so consistent. I knew the amp I was getting was a close replica, not exact. But I knew HOW close it was. Still have that Evil Robot (they had to have it renamed: copyright issues). Number #13 of 100. Lucky me! Only 18 watts but it will take your head off if you crank it.
3:28 in - what he did was jump one of the two dropping resistors, thereby INCREASING the voltage to the preamp giving you more headroom and note definition!! :)
Yeah I do not know what he is calling Jimmy page level gain in this video but I did not hear it. Domt get me wrong the tone was killer but still a bit to driven for page . Page at his heaviest in 1969 and 70 was still much less driven than anything here .
@@adamwatson6916 He didn't really showcase that sound here. The first sound he showed was the "Low Gain" setting but with the gain knob almost cranked. Also I think you'd be surprised when you played it yourself there's not as much gain there as you think, Phil is a wicked guitar player, it's sort of an AC/DC ear trick thing in that the playing is so dynamic you don't realize how little gain there actually is.
He ain’t lying… The amp will tell on you really quickly if you’re not on top of your game. Sounds really great with him playing, though. Makes me sound like I really need to practice.🤠
Phil X Jr. Steal Daddy's Master Volume and Gain Knobs. It will drive him nuts. Even better install them 90 or 180 degs out of wack. Great Tricks to pi$$ off your least favorite metal guitarist.
Thats all good .......but nothing about most important bottom cab ....and the speakers .....its like you can have the baddest motor under the hood ..... But if you have no gears in the rear end your not going anywere
@@philx1111 wow, typically m style amps only clean up well with the presence higher. Wonder if this was on noon. But thats still a brighter sound to begin with.. like it a lot. On the SS100 I have it the presence dimed, but only when the master is around 4 or 6. But I run it through a OX Box anyway, so no real room involved.
Yeah, But when you get stuff for free ?. I bet in the near future he is using a different Amp. Oh if Phil X say's it's good then i have to have it. Get real.
Phil is such a national treasure... So happy he got his own signature that sounds absolutely amazing. Glad I'm not the only one who is a firm believer in 100% amp tone with ear candy on top if you want it!
After so many years of dedicated practice, natural talent and a wonderful personality, you get this. Phil X was great even before everyone knew about him.
What a treat to have Phil X in the house! If you enjoyed the video, give us a like and don't forget to subscribe! 🔥
You should have Phil there more often, he's such a huge personality and a truly wonderful individual. And a world-class guitarist as well!
Phil is who got me into guitar. I was sorta into it as a hobby, then watching him on Fretted americana got me started on my Guitar journey
thx for that comment, man.
Funny, I got an LPJ because of his reviews on that channel. I really love his playing style and awesome charisma

me owning this amp i would be deported back to Canada , and banned from the UK lolol

Nailed it!!!!!
Such a down to earth player! Love this guy and how simple and stay true to the tone chasing for his own sound. Great guy, Phil X !
Awesome, Phil x the koolest KAT . I really wish he runs for president. Thanks Phil and thanks Sweetwater
Phil X. The guitar hero we don’t deserve. 🤘
Phil seems like a great guy great player .
I guess he will need to be a regular soon maybe even get a purple guitar ?
Sell sell sell ✌🏼

Super polite, super friendly, super rocker

Phil and Nick!!! Great combo 😊
This guy is hilarious! Great to see he doesn’t take himself to seriously 👍
man i miss phil x, he could probably live off making UA-cam vids if he wanted.. Such a personality
Phil X = Awesome!!!!
Amazing amp. I used to want a deizel, now I want a friedman!.....nuff said
Phil is da man.

Yes, they need to offer this in a 20 - 25 watt where you can push the amp to get the good tone without being ran out of town on a rail.
He’s actually quite good and funny while he plays and talks guitar.
lovely lovely lovelly tone
"Since I have kids, there's lots of error. I don't practice" That's my life!
He has to be using treble bleeds for that clean tone, surely, right??
What happened to his signature amp, The Evil Robot? Looks like he found a new lover
Wow!
Phil x Rule’s
7:53 -59 LOL
I'll stick with my JMP
Look mom!!!! No pedals.
Mr. ADHD
100W? That is NOT a fun amp.
Phil, quit cannabis !
Phil seems like just a laid-back, solid dude. His amp seems really cool, but I have no reason to drop $3,200 on a head. Or do I.....? DO I?!
drop
@@TheMemagNeman ha!
DON'T YOU?
No. It is just a Marshall clone with some mods.

No surprise that Phil X is presenting his signature amp himself.

If you're impressed by the amplifier, bear in mind that Phil could plug into a potato and slay!
I heard he charges his iPhone with a potato too…after he’s done playing the “…to”
Coolest parts of this video: The hole punched 1MM pick, and the light on his pickup selector
Haha, I thought he signed w Framus like 2 years ago. Lol it was 2015 Jeez. I guess he's just signed with Gibson.
The coolest guy in the current rock scene has now a cool signature amp to go with his personality...
Dude is the absolute best.
I like how he set the mids to a quarter past M.
Remember when he was spotted with a Supro 100 Watt Plexi style amp that was gonna be a signature model? What happened to that?
Friedman must’ve offered a better deal! :)
Maybe he ended up preferring the Friedman more. Who knows?
@Brett S guitarist are not loyal to brands
Maybe he did prefer the Friedman.
However, I still want them to release that Supro plexi. That thing sounded really good.
3:28 in - what he did was jump one of the two dropping resistors, thereby INCREASING the voltage to the preamp giving you more headroom and note definition!! :)
Phil's low gain is my high gain. I'm living my life wrong.

A lot of guitarists have signature gear and you wonder if they actually use it. I would almost guarantee Phil is using this amp a lot. Congrats.
The man could play a banana plugged into a oven and it would sound great.
So the real question is where do I get an LED pickup selector?
I think it's just a pilot light. The switch is in place of the neck tone control
Phil is so cool, and such an awesome player. What energy and talent. Bon Jovi were lucky to get him
No tape no sell 😝
This is nice, but 100W isn't quite enough headroom for a bedroom amp.
Incredible sounding amp. And damn, as we all already knew, Phil X is truly one of the very best living rock guitarists.
that many have past?
7:50 🤣🤣🤣
I believe this amp has been out for a while now... I'm wondering if there's been any updates/mods to it since its original inception?

I picked up an EVH5150 lll and its AFUCKINMAZING.
I have nothing to add to what’s been said except just can’t beat a gold top. Shines all the way to the cheap seats, and that’s where you’ll find me.
Whaaaaaaaat???

Is the presence on 0? Are these pickups so bright or why is the presence set to 0?
What pickups are these?
actually it was the room that was bright. i usually have the presence at around 11:00. the bridge pup is an Arcane PX8

Fewer parts, fewer things that can break. It's simple common sense.
DUDE, i trashed a les paul studio yokin on the neck like that lol. I know he prolly dont care but i was devistated.

I like it when Nick jokes with Phil....
Sounds like a hot rodded 50 Watt Marshall ... absolute great. Warm and full, unusual for a 100 Watt Marshall Style Amp👍 great Job Friedman
What kind of speakers are you using in your cabs these days, thanks for the demo!
Just another amp a average person can't afford.......
one of the best videos from @sweetwater. this one is amazing
I miss Phil X’s demos. All time GOAT
Phil is a treasure in this day and age. Gotta get this amp.
3K pluss..??? Keep it, its too much money to try to be someone else.

Love Phil X. Such a good dude.
I took your knob Phil.. I needed a bass knob
Val Kilmer being Phil X
One of the best sounding amps Friedman makes imho. Great feature set as well. I’d love a 20 watt version.
Out of ALL the Friedman amps I have heard over the years people demo, this one sounded killer!
Uh, they all sound killer. 😉
