awesome video Coach, I've been selling sports cards on eBay for years and been charging $4-5.00 for shipping, and had no clue about the eBay standard envelope, that's amazing, I bet i lost a lot of sales because of my shipping cost, I currently have about 10-15 cards on sale that I will go back and change the shipping cost on, and to add that tidbit, about graded cards, was awesome, very informative, thanks.
Glad I could help Thomas. Keep in mind, you can use the Standard Envelope for any cards with single order values up to $20 USD or for combined orders up to $50 USD. Anything over, and eBay will kick the shipping option off of the shipping hub. That being said, anything over those price points you'd probably want to send 1st class mail anyways. Best regards, Justin
I bought 500 red 9.5 X 4.5 envelopes at a yard sale for a couple of bucks. Yard sales are great places to find stationary cheap. I bought over 200 index cards that someone had used as flash cards at a yard sale for a quarter and use those to pad the cards.

great video, what kind of label paper was that? it looked like a standard size sheet of paper with a sticker. am I seeing this right? did you print that from a regular printer?
Hi. Just getting started selling postcards. Your videos are super helpful. Thank you. I do not have a label machine and have no clue how to print press apply labels. Am I allowed to affix a paper label with tape?
Hi Lynne! Thank you so much for the compliment and for supporting my channel! Yes! You can absolutely print the label on paper and tape it onto the envelope. I did that for a long time until my sales volume went up to the point of it becoming more of a hassle to tape them than it was to purchase adhesive labels. When you get to the point of wanting to buy sticky labels I highly recommend these: www.ebay.com/itm/151972468114 I use these labels daily and they are awesome (because you don't need a special thermal printer). They are just as affordable as thermal labels, but don't require you to invest in a thermal printer. I hope this helps! ~ Justin

Thanks for video. For the sport cards we use toploaders, what do we use for paper money and coins. I need some suggestions how to pack paper money and coins. Can I send a coin in the toploader used for sports cards?
If you do a google search you can find square coin holders for reasonable prices. They have circles in the middle with clear mylar plastic for viewing the coins. I've had success using those with mailing with envelopes. You can also find money sleeves (similar to toploaders but for money). They are great for protecting money and can be used to mail in envelopes as well. I hope this helps! ~ Justin

Hey Carlos! Sorry for the delayed response as I just got off of work. The envelopes that I use are from Amazon. You can find them at this link: amzn.to/3aRjjqf I love them. I've shipped thousands of postcards with them and have never had any issues with them getting mangled in the mail sorters. My customers love them too. A few years ago I used to buy the same size mailer from ecoswift off of eBay. I really liked them, but they skyrocketed in price in the last year. I've found these brown ones to be of the same quality / durability for a 10th of the price. I hope this helps!
Put the label on the side that opens (usually the back). It will help secure the envelope seal. The postal service won’t care which side of the envelope you treat as the front. To them, the label side is the front side.
If I use a standard inkjet printer and half sheet labels what exactly is the size of the labels when you cut them out so I know what size envelopes to buy. I dont want to have to invest in a label maker and all I have is a chromebook so for me it prints out the labels as is I cannot shrink them.
Great video ! How’s your experience with the tracking so far ? I wonder how it gets scanned along the way as a bubble mailer/ first class package would be scanned ? I wonder if the post people recognize that these PWE need to be scanned if this is a relatively new system/service. Thanks !
Great question! In my experience so far, I have not had any issues with the tracking. I’ve used it hundreds of times and haven’t had any trouble with a single order. From my understanding (I called eBay to clarify), tracking scans get picked electronically up as the envelope passes through the mail feeders at the post office. Postal workers don’t have to manually scan it. If they did, I’m sure you’d be right in assuming that they would be clueless on what to do. Lol
@@CoachCommerce makes perfect sense that they wouldn’t scan them manually, just the answer I was searching for! 1 more thing.. do you drop your PWE’s inside the post office on the counter or hand them to postal worker or do you use the blue drop box’s/mail boxes inside or outside. I just always get paranoid using the drop boxes. I hate the thought of mail getting lost. For this reason I almost always run in to drop things off on the counter or even wait in line. And do you send $15-20 orders this way ? Or strictly cheaper cards - under $10? That’s it ! Thanks for help
@@ndb1aydc I usually schedule all of my packages to get picked up from my house since I ship multiple packages a day. That being said, I’ve dropped them off in drop boxes as well as at the counter. I’ve never had issues with either. I’d say do whatever you’re most comfortable with. Also, I’ll usually ship anything that I’m allowed to that’s under $20 with the standard envelope and haven’t had any issues. Anything over 20, you won’t be allowed to ship it with standard envelope. Plus, you’d probably want to use first class with anything over $20 anyway. I hope this helps!
Love the video, my question is how do I print ‘eBay standard envelope’ (ese) from my iphone. When I purchase a shipping label on the iPhone app, the shipping method always changes to either media or 1st class even though I select ese when I make the listing. And my item meets the criteria for ese use. When I switch to laptop, I can print ese’s no problem.
Hi Chris! That’s a really good question. I honestly don’t know the answer but will look into it. I print all of my labels from the computer and don’t use the app for printing. The app is limited with a lot of features and I personally find it difficult and buggy when printing from the app. I’ve got a feeling that since the app was released before the standard envelope was an option that it doesn’t default to the setting. I’d like to think it would be something that the developers will eventually patch in an update, but who knows. I’ll ask an eBay rep next time I call though. I have anchor store concierge service, and those reps are usually pretty knowledgeable and empowered to help.
@@CoachCommerce thanks! Your explanation makes sense. I wouldn’t code the ESE in the App either if I didn’t think ppl would use it. I can say the eBay app plus the Canon print app works well for printing from a phone as long as you can purchase the correct label.
I've had no problem with putting them in mailboxes or drop boxes. The post office seems to know what the labels are and personally I haven't had any problems.
Hay small question if I were to sell a coin with a coin holder. Would I need to tape it on the the envelope so it doesn’t jump around. Or do I leave as is?
Do the labels automatically orient to a 6"X3 1/2" landscape format or do they come as the traditional 6 1/2X 4 1/2 portrait format? Which is probably not acceptable.
I print mine on half sheet shipping labels (8.5" by 5.5"), but that's because I use those labels for every order that I ship with. I just run them through my laser printer. But, you can set your default eBay label print settings to whatever size is best for the format you are using. I know some people use thermal labeler with a 4X6 default. I'm not sure if I'm making sense or not, but I'll try to find a video to explain what I mean. But, it is possible to adjust default print settings. It's just been a while since I've done it because I've always used the default print setting on eBay.
I actually use half-sheet adhesive labels on all of my eBay orders. I use these, but you may be able to find a competing brand for a little less money: www.ebay.com/itm/1000-Shipping-Labels-8-5x5-5-Rounded-Corner-Self-Adhesive-2-Per-Sheet-PACKZON-/151972468114?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0
Hi John! I buy envelopes off of Amazon. They're affordable and get delivered fast. I use these envelopes because they're a little thicker than a standard envelope and handle better in the mail: amzn.to/3nY7lSI
They need to add stickers and decals to this category, I just spent $8.30 on priority mail shipping by accident while I was trying to figure out whether I could use this option.
To be frank, it's not like the post offce x-rays every envelope, plus, I doubt anyone would actually care if you sent your stickers and decals using the ebay standard shipping option.
Hey coach, trying to start selling reserve notes on eBay and gathering information about shipping. All the items that I’m trying to sell are worth more than $100 and I see that this method is insured up to $50 so I don’t think this would be the way I should ship my bills. Any suggestions? Thanks for the great content!
The envelope picks up scans as it passes through the mail sorters at the post office and as it travels through the distribution centers. They're not scanned by hand as a package is. If you ask a postal employee to scan the package, chances are they won't know what to do. But they still are "scanned" nonetheless and tracking is picked up in this manner. I hope this helps!
I do sell with this method, however I actually hate it. It takes way longer to arrive and the USPS is about 40% to scan it and track it. The positives are the $20 insurance, which I have had to use. I am actually moving to try to making card lots and shipping with what is now ground advantage. The USPS has tried to and actually has up charged me and I’ve had more than a few USPS workers actually try to bend the envelope saying it’s too ridged. My friend has had the same experience with the USPS. I have found the better post offices to ship from, well actually it’s only one where I have had no problems. Good luck all!!!
When you print your label (for a postcard) through your Thermal label printer, how do you change the orientation so that the label comes out with the text and bar code in the landscape position? I just bought a Zebra 2844 and my USPS labels come out fine but when I go to print my ESE label the text and the barcode are not aligned with the long edge of the envelope like they need to be.
Thank you for your time and effort in creating all of your content. How do you find packaging that will remain under 3 ounces in weight when you have, perhaps, a one ounce post card, protective sleeve, envelope plus the standard envelope label? The weights come up as 4-6 ounces for me when I attempt various options to keep the weight down. How may a seller keep the weight at or under 3 ounces to qualify for this method of USPS mailing?
Thanks for the complement! I’ve never had problems keeping everything under one ounce. If I’m shipping two to three it will go over to 2 or 3 ounces. I also use everything by that you mentioned as well (clear sleeve protector, packing slip, envelope, and adhesive label). Sometimes, I trim the label down with scissors. By chance, do you think your scale could be off or need calibrating? You can always cross check your scale weight with the postage scales at the list office, I have a really accurate scale specifically designed to measure ounces and it goes down to the hundredth of a gram in increments. I use for only shipping postcards as I use my heavier scale for all of my other eBay packages. I’ve shipped thousands of postcards, and most standard cards don’t even way a half an ounce themselves (even the more heavy ones I’ve found). It’s hard telling why the weight may be over without being there to help. Keep trying and you may be able to find a system. If you have any other questions I’ll do my best to help!
@@CoachCommerceI appreciate your input very much, especially on a sunday afternoon. Are you referring to 4x6" and/or 5x7" postcards as opposed to sports / baseball cards that are much smaller in size and likely weight? With getting into a 4 .75 x 6" postcard, I'm also getting into bigger protectors and envelopes, all weighing more. I am searching for lightweight shipping options. The scale has appeared to be precise and accurate thus far, stating it did not need to be calibrated upon receipt.. But I'll learn how to recalibrate it with hopes that will offer different results! Thank you for your expertise.
Thank you for the great info! Do you know if there's a way of getting this shipping option on the USPS/other service website? I'd like to have tracking with cards that I sell off of eBay as well :D
I sell vinyl decals but no matter which catagory I choose the stabdard envelope option is not offered. Small decals fit in a 9 x 4 envelope. How do I get standard envelope. Kindly
Thanks for the info!! Can you put it in the mailbox? No one ever mentions putting packages in their mailbox, they always take them to the post office even though they are already paid for 🤷♀️
You you can! I put them in my mailbox all of the time. I also schedule pickups on the USPS website when I have packages and leave the envelopes with them as well. There's no need to take a trip to the post office if you don't have to.
You can send it with your outgoing mail or drop it in a mailbox just like any other letter or card. There are no additional charges. You are charged for the label when you print it.
I couldn't agree more! It's a pain having to trim them with scissors. The envelope I used is smaller than the template and I cut each one by hand to make it fit. It always seems like the most obvious fixes eBay is slow to correct. lol
So, let's say I'm looking to sell a pack of basil seeds or tomatoes etc. Since seeds can be listed as other collectible lots. What if I were to send the seeds with a postcard or for the sake of this question. Could I sell a Basil plant playing card that includes a pack of basil seeds and stil use the eBay Standard Envelope? Technically? I wish they just offered a standard envelope and didn't limit it to cards, but what do you think??
Yes, the option will show as long as you're listing in a category that is approved for standard envelope use. When you list with free shipping or flat rate, you always have the option to choose whatever service you prefer.
Need to do a follow up on the bar code scanning because if the USPS doesn't scan them at all before delivered they aren't a "validated" shipping and can be used against you in your performance on shipping.
Yes, that is true. Shipping confirmation only really affects your selling status if you're aiming to be top rated. I don't sweat top rated sellers status as much as I once did, because the benefits are nowhere near as good as they used to be. Personally, I haven't had any issues with tracking scans, and I prefer it much better than the old method of shipping postcards (a postage stamp with no tracking). Thanks for sharing though as I'm sure this will help a lot of sellers when deciding how to mail. ~ Justin
@@CoachCommerce Yeah i only bring it up because that 10% will by the end of the year give me about 360-590 in saved money and i can reinvest it into the business and or cards. Thank you for responding to my comment.
So I can ship 1 oz cards for only around 50 cents total and sell them for $1 or $2 Does it cost only for the envelope oz or also , do you have to purchase the label even though you print it?
Hi. Thanks for the video. I'd like to start selling stamps. I just inherited a bunch of stamps. But my plan is to ship off stamps (ill be shipping many plate blocks of 4) but since I have so many stamps that I can use to pay for the postage there is no reason to use the ebay standard envelope? What should I use to protect the plate block of stamps but also have the cheapest rate? Any advice? Fyi i have no experience selling on eBay. Most plate blocks have a value of $5-25 or so. Thanks.
The main advantage of the eBay standard envelope is the tracking number, which could help if there is this a dispute with the buyer regarding shipping (proving it arrived).
Hey coach ! I was just wondering. I’m trying to list some sports cards and for some odd reason no matter what category I chose it doesn’t allow me to chose standard envelope shipping, by chance could you let me know what category I need to select ! Thank you !
I know I am responding a month later, but... if you are doing this on your phone, you may want to try on a computer. I have heard of people not having the option on a cell phone. Cheers!
Yes, a laser printer will work. That's what I use to print all of my labels.. Unfortunately though, eBay doesn't yet allow patches to be shipped this way. Like every other category (that's not stamps, postcards, or trading cards), eBay has the shipping option category blocked. You can't even select it because it's greyed out on the shipping interface. Which really stinks. I'm hoping that they eventually adopt patches as well because it only makes sense.
I tried this service once, it worked out however I feel like I got lucky because the system didn’t “recognize “ the tracking number provided and I couldn’t track. If memory serves I dropped the envelope in the drop box. How does the tracking number process into the system. Any advice?? Thank you

I just had an issue where I was expecting a QR code and didn’t get one. When I purchased the label I had nothing to attach but it shows it shipped. What can I do?
At this time there's not an international option for the standard envelope. Hopefully eBay adds one in the future. They do offer the global shipping program (which is great) but the costs for buyers aren't as cheap as this shipping method. But it's wonderful for sellers. If I ever hear of them adding an option for international I'll let you know.

GREAT INFO! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video!
Thank you so much. I seen what the label looked like and was so confused. 😅
Thank you for the information, do you have to bring the envelope to the post office or can we just put it in our mailbox with the flag up?
I've had no problem with putting them in mailboxes or drop boxes. The post office seems to know what the labels are and personally I haven't had any problems.
@@CoachCommerce awesome, thank you very much!
Awesome content and great walk through of the mailing process. Completely understand what is the ebay standard envelope and how to use it now 👍
Glad I could help Chris! Thanks for the compliment as well!
Great video! Thank you for providing this information!!
Would small bubble mailers be ok for this shipping option
@@CoachCommerce Thanks for the reply, enjoy your channel!
Did you glue that label to the envelope or tape?
I actually use half-sheet adhesive labels on all of my eBay orders. I use these, but you may be able to find a competing brand for a little less money:

FYI. Noticed the buyers name when you were showing the label at the 8:24 mark.
Very cool tutorial. Good job man!
when I sold a coin I didn't see standard envelope as an option
You might have to click eBay button in the shipping options
What if pack a trading card in a sleeve, toploader, teambag & two pieces of cardboard? Is that allowed?
Great Vid! striaght to the point, very informative!
Thanks for this valuable information - Can you just drop it in a mailbox as opposed to going to the Post Office?
Yes you can! I've done this and haven't had any issues so far.
Yupp same, I’ve done it also a couple days ago and it’s delivered.
@@deejayy8303 Glad to hear it's working well for you too!
Can you ship it through your mailbox, or do you need to drop it off at the post office?
Can mail from home can mail from home
What size envelopes can we use for eBay stamped envelopes
Thank you so much for this video. Soooo Helpful!
could you just put this in a postal box around your city or do you have to deliver this to the postal office?
You can send it with your outgoing mail or drop it in a mailbox just like any other letter or card.
The link didn’t work for the size of the envelope, what size do you use?
If you don't have labels, can you just print out the label on regular paper and tape it to the envelope just using packing tape?
Yes you can!
Yup
Thank you for your informations , do you know where or how to buy envelope for cheap ?
@@__WJK__ Well, it doesn't give me that option so maybe I should list them as trading cards? I'll have to see next time I list something.
Do they need to scan the envelope ✉ 🤔 thanks for your time
The envelope picks up scans as it passes through the mail sorters at the post office and as it travels through the distribution centers. They're not scanned by hand as a package is. If you ask a postal employee to scan the package, chances are they won't know what to do. But they still are "scanned" nonetheless and tracking is picked up in this manner. I hope this helps!
@@CoachCommerce Thanks for the information ! have a great night !
Same here. Takes 4 days to go 200 miles and some don't get tracked but I'll keep using it
Can you just drop the ebay standard envelope in a mailbox? Or do you need to go to the post office
This may be a silly question but for cheap card lots can you just toss the cards penny sleeved in a 6 by 9 Manila envelope and ship this way?
Where can you buy the "thick" a6 envelopes? Google isn't what it used to be.
I have my shipping size label set at 4x6 and yet when I print it it comes out the full 8x11 size sheet of paper. Why?
can you use a 4 x 8 bubble mailer?
No. Standard envelope only.
Thank you for the great info! Do you know if there's a way of getting this shipping option on the USPS/other service website? I'd like to have tracking with cards that I sell off of eBay as well :D
Can I use my thermal printer?
Yes, you should be able to.
@@CoachCommerce Thank you!
Mine only show boxes, the lowest being $13. How do you make it pull up letters?
@@CoachCommerce Good to know, thank you!
so when i print out the label and put on the envelope i just go to post office and drop it off? no other charges after?
You can send it with your outgoing mail or drop it in a mailbox just like any other letter or card.
There are no additional charges. You are charged for the label when you print it.
Thank you for all the info! I still don’t understand why we are not allowed to resize the label for the envelope actual requirements
What about flat rate or free shipping? In those cases I do not have to measure anything so will that option show up?
So do you guys have these scanned at the post office? Or do you just shove them into the normal flat mail slot?
@@ArenaAccessoriesjust put em there the mail slot or leave out for the mailman
Can you use any envelope from dollar tree?
What the size of the envelope in your video?
So I can ship 1 oz cards for only around 50 cents total and sell them for $1 or $2
Does it cost only for the envelope oz or also , do you have to purchase the label even though you print it?
Much better than their comically useless "help" page, thanks!
Can you do this on a iPhone
More than Half the time the tracking on eBay standard envelope doesn't work.
Hey coach ! I was just wondering. I’m trying to list some sports cards and for some odd reason no matter what category I chose it doesn’t allow me to chose standard envelope shipping, by chance could you let me know what category I need to select ! Thank you !
Change the dimensions to 11x6x1
I know I am responding a month later, but... if you are doing this on your phone, you may want to try on a computer. I have heard of people not having the option on a cell phone. Cheers!
Can I ship patches using this? less than 3 oz and size right. And will a laser printer suffice?
Yes, a laser printer will work. That's what I use to print all of my labels.. Unfortunately though, eBay doesn't yet allow patches to be shipped this way. Like every other category (that's not stamps, postcards, or trading cards), eBay has the shipping option category blocked. You can't even select it because it's greyed out on the shipping interface. Which really stinks. I'm hoping that they eventually adopt patches as well because it only makes sense.
@@CoachCommerce thanks, i'm listing a lot of patches right now, I didn't think so either I'm using First Class 2 oz. weight, appreciate it
I tried this service once, it worked out however I feel like I got lucky because the system didn’t “recognize “ the tracking number provided and I couldn’t track. If memory serves I dropped the envelope in the drop box. How does the tracking number process into the system. Any advice?? Thank you
What’s the brand and size envelope you’re using in the video?
Hey David! Here's the envelopes that I use in the video (and on a daily basis). I've never had any issues with them and they work well:
amzn.to/3CpkU3r
I just had an issue where I was expecting a QR code and didn’t get one. When I purchased the label I had nothing to attach but it shows it shipped. What can I do?
is there an international shipping option (even at a higher cost)?
At this time there's not an international option for the standard envelope. Hopefully eBay adds one in the future. They do offer the global shipping program (which is great) but the costs for buyers aren't as cheap as this shipping method. But it's wonderful for sellers. If I ever hear of them adding an option for international I'll let you know.
Can you leave these in the mailbox as outgoing or does it have to be left at a post office?
Yes, outgoing
