    We are kindred spirits. This is almost exactly how I’ve been shipping with 2 exceptions. As opposed to taping the shipping shield, I found 2000 “Thank you for supporting my small business” quarter sized stickers for 5.99 on Amazon and use those to seal my shield. Gratitude goes a long way in my book. The other exception is I do use a team bag to protect the shield as well. So I spend a few cents more, but gives me piece of mind and I’m still not losing money on shipping :-)

      It's been working pretty well so far besides the few times I tried to push the limits and add too many cards to the envelope. Shipping shields say that they can hold 8 cards but I feel like that's too much. One time I put 2 shipping shields with 7 cards each in one PWE and the envelope busted open in transit. The customer said the cards arrived undamaged but the envelope was a mess.
      The stickers sound like a good idea. I'm going to look into that. In the beginning I was losing money because I was selling cards at a penny and shipping them was costly. Now I raised my minimum prices and I can spend a bit more on better shipping.

      The 66 cents really eat into your cost. More than I thought it would. When I first started I had cards listed for a penny, which landed me a lot of sales but I would lose money because of the stamp/shipping. Or people would buy 100 cards at a penny which wouldn't fit. So I used Pirateship.com to send a padded envelope at around $3.50...so that lost me even more money. Now I just list everything at .25 or higher and it's been working out. Less sales but I'm. not losing as much

I did get my first Neutral feedback on TCGplayer though, so I'm not at 100% anymore. The issue I'm running into is the post office in general. Some of my PWE arrive flawless and others the envelope is ripped open before it arrives. I thought the issue was thickness, but it's been happening with single cards as well as larger orders. The only thing we do different with our orders is we tape the shipping shield to the bottom right hand side of the packing slip. Then your able to fold it twice and then do the address fold. That way you shipping shield is completely covered by the packing slip for a little protection.

      I'm trying to remember why I do it the way that I do. I think there was a reason, I'm not at my desk but it might be because I didn't want the cards to shift up and down as much. I also need to do a part 2 to this video about overstuffing cards into a PWE. I've had a few bust (the buyer said the cards came perfect but the shipping shield busted out of the side of the PWE). I was really pushing how many cards I could fit in it though, so completely my fault.

    Why not put your 5 or 6 cards in a penny sleeve, then in a shipping shield? What's the point of having one card in a penny sleeve next to 5 other cards with no protection when they can all fit in a penny sleeve, and then slide into the shipping shield? Also, I would wrap the shipping shield in a team sleeve just to ensure sealed protection from rain. Since you're shipping this in a PWE, if the cards are just put in a cardboard shipping shield and then into a PWE, chances are they're going to get water damage if it rains. Food for thoughts!

    • @TheBearNecessiTCG
      @TheBearNecessiTCG  7 місяців тому

      It just depends on the cards I'm shipping out. If they are bulk then I will put multiple in a penny sleeve. Multiple penny sleeves really do add to the thickness. So far I haven't had any issues with the envelopes getting wet (or at least nobody mentioned it). The thought makes me want to dunk my setup into water to see how it does.

    Hey man, nice job on this vid. A lot of good info. I suggest you rethink using top loaders. If you order straight from BCW they cost the same amount as those shipping shields but they are more versatile. Once you're TCGplayer store grows more, you might start to run into issues with using shipping shields for large orders. I've shipped multiple orders up to 25 cards using two top loaders and two team bags via PWE . Just wanted to pass on a tip I got from an established LGS. Good luck with your store!

They still look like they cost more than the shipping shields as I got them for .08 a piece (lowest .07 if you buy 9000) but I have run into issues shipping large amounts. Are you taking the savings cost of shipping into the equation? Here is a link to my tcgplayer reviews that mention this: tcgplayer.pxf.io/nLvrbR
      Because of those few I've limited myself to sending a max of 12 cards in one PWE, so the orders I get that are 20 cards get sent in 2 separate PWEs. I price my cards at at least .25 cents, so I'm still profiting even if I have to split it up into 2 shipments.

      I'm going to make a video about this topic because I've tried multiple strategies. If I was to just buy booster boxes/sealed product at MSRP or as they release new sets then I lose money. Almost 100% of the time, it's like buying a lottery ticket to get the best hit out of the box and most of the time the big hit isn't even worth more than the box.
      I do a lot of bargain shopping to find boxes on clearance. For example, I bought booster boxes of Digimon: New Awakening at $28 each and in that set there are 20 cards selling for over $5, box toppers that go for $5, and some commons/uncommons over 50 cents. I also list all the bulk for .25 and people usually buy a rare card and add a few commons to fill out there decks. Plus Digimon has a lot of players looking for playsets, while Pokemon has more collectors that just buy single cards to fill out their collections.
      I have no advice if you're doing sports cards because I've lost money every time when I open NBA & NHL.
      and then there's grading to think about. You could turn at $10 card into a lot more if it comes back a 10.

Ripping and selling is just gambling but finding deals makes sense but is also hard in one piece due to the high demand on almost any relevanty card.

    IF you're using a White envelope to mail Cards you're a POS. This is how you Lose cards in the mail, I've also had to pay for Postage on cards because of weight in the envelope. Period. Shit idea.

      and what's your solution? People don't want to pay more for shipping and that's why they end up in an envelope. There's a big difference between an expensive card and a .25 card.
