Nice build. I tend to use liquid hide glue when putting shaker pegs in. My thinking being that if one breaks off it's a lot easier to reglue a new one in.

I don’t have a Brad nailer so I’ll be drilling it to the wall, should I drill into the studs or avoid studs?
I would definitely try to screw through the backplate and into at least one stud if you can!
