2X Purple Heart Marine Punished After Severe Brain Trauma
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 тра 2023
- This week’s Urban Valor episode features Marine veteran Keene Sherburne. Keene grew up in California’s high desert. His Vietnam veteran father was a “prepper”, which led to law enforcement conducting 19 searches on their home. After Keene’s parents went to jail, he was forced to fend for himself at the age of 15. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and became an infantry machine gunner. While in Iraq, Keene was blown up twice and received two purple hearts. Due to his severe brain trauma, he was forced to medically retire. As Keene was being processed, he was punished for a ridiculous incident, considering everything he had just been through. He now finds peace as a yoga instructor but says every day is still a struggle.

This brought back some memories. I did 2 pumps to Fallujah with 6th, and 8th Marines in 2005, '06, '07. Wish I was older so I could've been there a year earlier. East Karma Road almost took me out by an IED but thank God I was in a MRAP. Truck was totaled, so its safe to say if it was a HUMVEE I probably wouldn't be here to write this. 🙏
Same , I was running missions out of Al Asad to Ramadi 06 & hit 3 . I don’t think we had a single mission up there where we didn’t have a TIC or IED . Crazy time
Same I was in anba 06-07. Barley went to the aid station even after a two off the helmet. Understrength at the time for my position so I stuck it out best I could with fractures in the neck and I still feel the shaft.
Oh not same, I got hit in the turret on two occasions but not road side bombs, I was on the river mostly. I built mwraps after I got out though, them things are solid AF and I'ma buy one and turn it into a RV if possible.
@@user-vj4vl7le4y Fuck yeah! That would go hard as fuck to have an MRAP decked out like an RV!!!
That'd be a serious all hell breakin loose SHTF zombie apocalypse bug-out vehicle!
If I had one I swear I'd more than likely end up living in it lol.
Thank you for your service
What the government did to your family home is atrocious.
1:07:43 This whole bit about almost taking your life brought me to tears man. Glad Rambo was there for you and you’re still here bro. Thank you for everything and try not to beat yourself up over not doing more active duty years. 2.5 years active but pretty much the rest of your life inactive and dealing with what you lost and gained during those 2.5 years.
Yes! But once a marine, always a marine! Especially that he is helping injured marines (& maybe other injured service members) he is still so much engaged in service! Great guy! I'm glad he is still here as well!
@@sarasjv44even to the some of us that are like minded warriors but never went through boot camp. Marines are a different breed all together
@@intuitivefugitive8852what do you mean by this? Never went through boot camp?
@@sarasjv44 Absolutely once a marine always a marine
@@RobertBrown-yh3bt I think he’s just saying that even to him and his people, who are like minded to marines through their warrior spirit/mentality, marines are still a different breed altogether even considering their like mindedness to other various warrior cultures
Sherburne is actually a positive person. He always had a positive outlook at the battalion.
You know him? He seems like he’d be a hell of a lot of fun to be around, and a great team member. I’m so glad he is still with us. He’s so full of life.
I am so glad that you working on bouncing back, a little at a time. You definitely went through a lot. But it shows you are resilient and have much fortitude. This I am sure has to do with your willingness to go beyond your past experiences and move forward into a different life. I agree so strongly with you about turning the switch off. You did 2 1/2 years in the Marines, you did your part. It has nothing to do with who did 4 years and who did 2 1/2. You served and have been to war. Many before and after you unfortunately did not make it back. You said you are blessed. I completely agree with you. Next time I travel to California, I will definitely check you. Continue to grow with each passing day, stronger and stronger and wiser and wiser.
As a former Marine, who joined some years before you, I completely agree with your comments about some of the leadership. We had some screwed up leadership at Camp Horno, at Pendleton. Luckily when I transferred to 1/4, I had decent leadership. I did three Westpacs and got out.
You mentioned that the Marines wanted to punish you. I cannot wrap my head around some of the stupidity that still exists in the Marines. I witnessed some stupidity when I was in. I also knew there was no way I would re-up, absolutely no way.
I hope and pray that you continue to get each day.
💯
What a special guy.Real warriors are honest. This man is the real deal.
Thank you will never be enough. We are a war torn generation. God bless. 🇺🇸
Nice his unit replaced mine; I was with 2nd BN 7th Mar Golf Co. did some work in Fallujah for half deployment in 05 then we moved out to Al Ahmariah for the remainder of it.
thanks for everything man
Man the ending resonated so effing hard. My dog did the same for me, jumped in my lap and looked at me. Glad as hell you lived dude. You’re here for a reason.
Awesome story, glad to see Keen getting that best revenge by living a great life.
You served above and beyond. Thank you for your service, never stop fighting!
Amen God bless.the usmc
We owe this guy a large amount of gratitude, as an American who didnt serve in the military, Thank You for your service!
No you don't
What’s up man, I really felt it when you told your story. We have a ton of things in common. I too am from the high desert. Joined the military right out of high school, I went army. I was in basic training when 9/11 happened. I was in 4/27 FA out of Baumholder Germany. Deployed to Iraq in April 1, 2003, did a year in Baghdad where I was hit with shrapnel from an RPG, returned to duty next day to go back on patrols, from there we headed to Mahmoudiyah to shoot our big guns, 155mm self propelled howitzers (M109A6). My total deployment was 16 months. I’ve seen some shit too man. Glad you made it back safe. Keep your head up brother, we all struggle from time to time. Keep in touch with the guys you served with, you all deserve it. Peace brother 🤘🙏🤙
You guys did 16 straight months on one deployment???? Uugghh
@@davewylie654 pure suck!!! 3-4 patrols a day, static sites, movement to contact, guarded the Baghdad National Museum for a while, ect. 2 months shy of my third combat stripe. Best and worst time of my life.
I bet you like Tool too, judging by your name on here :P

Hahahaha just saw your profile pic 🤙🤘
This story was amazing and I'm grateful he was brave enough to share. I almost made it to the end without getting emo but the story about Rambo hit me in the feels. Semper Fi bro!
Semper Fi brother👊🏼🤙🏼 thanks for watching
Welcome home devil dog! God has a plan for you brother ! Keep your head up an try the best you can man . We all got your six !!!!
THANK YOU KEENE FOR YOUR SACRIFICE I WISH YOU MANY BLESSINGS!
Semper Fi, Keene. I did a couple tours during the same time as you and got medevaced to Landstuhl too. Your recount brought back a lot of memories. Thanks for sharing your experience. Wish you all the best, brother.
Welcome home Mr. Sherburne. Thanks for sharing your story with us. I watch these interviews and the veteran who starts off talking isn't the one who finishes. I see them change as they relate their experiences. I hear a change in the interviewer's voice from listening to their stories. I suspect he has his own story but his therapy is in getting them to speak. I really appreciate this series.
I pray for peace for the Combat Veterans. You deserve more. Semper Fidelis
I would honestly love to meet this guy! Thank you for service brother.
Bad ass mother trucker right there. Awesome to hear about your dad being a prepper
Thanks for sharing your story Keene. Glad you chose life. You have a lot to offer. Your resilience is contagious!
Thank you so much for your service brother!
What a story. Man had my attention and now I sit here, happy how things are now, and the positive in his life. But man, those dark parts of his story about brought me to tears. So much respect for this warrior.
Wow, your parents sound great… government took 19 times to try to take them down to ruin your life. Never mind trying to catch actual criminals…
It also sounds like you’re a great man and have kept your life going in an amazingly positive direction. Well done!
More like basket cases of paranoia run amuck. The government doesn't send you to prison for being a "prepper" with "all legal guns". Sounds like the dad made threats, and his children paid the price.
@@DoubleGoon found the fed. Here you are saying 18 raids with no evidence and the 19th to finally find something to “get” his dad were justified? You’re the reason our country is failing.
@DoubleGoon yeah and it sounds like you're talking out of your ass.
@@DoubleGoon sounds like you're an "the gov can do no wrong" type
Thanks for sharing your story Brother. Best wishes for your future!
You're Amazing! Dogs are amazing! This is the best one yet! Hell of a story! So happy you shared this!
Thankyou for your sacrifice we don't deserve you glad you made it through
Thank you!
Keene incredible story on your military life.thanks for sharing it with us.and also thank you for your service. I heard you mentioned a few times the words { BAD ASS } about one of your buddies out there..well i dont know how you feel about your self when it comes to your military life becouse you said you were only able to serve 2 years in the core and then you were out..to have an injury like yours and achive the things you have ben doing to better your self and also helping other veterans at such a young age....Now thats a { BAD ASS } RIGHT THERE....Stay strong Sherburne...you have a purpose in life.....
Thank you Keene for sharing your story, wow
keep telling your story bro i relate with real life experience very similar to your path man it helps to speak about it and you never know when someone is listening that still has the gun in their hand and your story may help
Your so hurt, best wishes from a non military guy from Canada. I’m in absolute awe of you amazing warriors. Wow, hope your life from here is great.
Its amazing a dude with this background would want to fight for this country
All after 9/11. That's really something.
Thanks for your story Keene you are awesome. Keep up the fight brother my prayers are with you. God bless you 🙏
🙏
Wtf ..... were they thinking leaving those soldiers with xbox and pain killers and drug abuse. That made me angry that he was in that enviorment. He deserved better than that !!
Happy he's a better man today. He's done more than i could ever do.
I'm deeply grateful for and to you.
I totally can relate to pretty much everything he spoke about. Much love brotha...
Salute to you also sir, thank you and good health to you
Dogs... a man's best friend. Mines saved me several times too, you're not alone brother.
EOD took for ever. And you seat there like like seating ducks. I had a LT. Leave me on the X after getting ambushed instead of what we were supposed to do which was to continue moving and pass it on for the following gun trucks to engage. That Lt left my Humve on the X for it seemed like 20 minutes. When I was there 08 09 RKG 3s and EFPs where a big thing. Our first mission witch was only supposed to be a 2 day mission took 7 days we got hit so many times. I had my Humve which had a frag 7 up grade kit on it and it was awesome while the rest of my scout plt had MRAPs and people keep asking me why I would not get one and I told them just look at what vehicles they are targeting and the look on their faces was awesome. The frag 7 kit Humve were awesome armored all over new suspension and the engines were tricked out. All my missions on the road and I got hurt from a rocket attack walking to the outhous and was medavacd to Germany.
Over pressure is a bitch when inside of a Humve. He's right they had great doctors in Germany. Yep balad I was stationed there and they had a MRI machines and everything. I was sent there they gave me a MRI and I was flown out with others that night and I didn't even think I was hurt but I never got to say good bye to anyone and the unit I extended my tour with inventoried my shit and stold all my good stuff. Then after I got back from my Combat advisor tour in Afghanistan I got hurt a couple times and was sent to the hospital and after a full MRI and multiple x-rays they told me I was getting medically retired at 100% in 14.
My dog Sadie Sue saved me also and is with me 24 7.
Thank you bro.
Very Cool Marine, live a helluva life. Semper fi Bro☝🏽💪🏾
so sad 😢.. i went to parris island for rotc in high school , so sad to see somebody young as me to go through that . in the same areas , buildings , chow hall that i was in… god bless anyone who read this 🙏🏿
Powerful share 👏🏽❤️
Damn great story.we appreciate your service
Keene, you're the man. Really enjoyed watching this, hope you're doing well!
One hell of a story.god bless you.thank god that your dog stopped you from taking your own life.sir thank you for your service and the way they treated you.that should never happen to you being treated like crap from the marine cor.thank god you got your 100% disability.
1:09:36 that sigh, i feel you, thats my biggest fear man. You can take me just dont take me too early. Hope youre doing good man and you found something else in your life to replace that love you have for the military.
MWSS 372 tried our best to provide the sole EOD coverage for the Sunni Triangle. The number of calls for cordoned IEDs was constant.
It would be best to petition that NJP with the USMC and DOD.
I feel you on the dogs and leaving the country. I lived in Lebanon for three years. I came back to the States. I have yet to return home. Choosing life is a great move. You have found reasons to live. Life sucks at times. I know you'll continue to do great things.
This guy seems like the most chill guy on the planet. So awesome. Thanks for your story Devil Dog!
Under no circumstances should you leave the dog behind, never abandon your pets especially those that have saved your life.
No way.
I could never… just thinking about the look on my dogs face waiting for me to comeback would’ve killed me. Well he passed away now but still. 😢RIP RONDO he’s on my icon
We left everyone behind in Afghanistan homie..all our terps and AA support 🙏
I dropped tears!
140 degree weather. woah. 😮
That heat was the real deal. I've never felt that sort of heat anywhere close to it here in the states ever. Even when we trained in 29 palms in 110 degree weather.
Bear valley, Ca.? I was born Grass Valley, Ca., Bear Valley was where we learned to swim, etc., the gravel plant was where my dad worked.
Peace time or wartime, the Marine Corps is absolutely horrible at dealing with injured Marines, and retaining them. I don’t know if it is still that way I was in from 1990 to 1996. I broke my foot in MCT and they sent me to this admin company. They called it on Kent, Geiger, and man was it depressing they just treat you like whatever injury you have you did to yourself on purpose to get out. And you’re surrounded by guys who have been there for a long time and absolutely hate the core in the world in general as a level of depression on a whole new scale I sure hope things are a little different. Something tells me that they’re not though I love the Marine Corps, but I absolutely hated that company.
He’s one of those guys, you would say “I want to share a foxhole with this guy” - he’d just have your back and you’d know it. Whip smart and full of heart.
Proper bloke, real men doing men things
If any of you need help...please reach out....i will do my best to be there for you
Semper Fi brother 🇺🇸
I was in country and was in Fallujah 03-04 and it was nasty. Really bad.
wow that is a real injustice done to his family
He’s kind of biased, I’m sure the cops have a different story lol. You don’t get the FBI on you for just selling old army equipment.
@@cvgodd1432 you kind of do, check enough of the list, and set off enough radars, and they'll go after you, even if you're innocent, plus, he is anti gov, so they really do want to ruin their lives
Its hard to beleive so many of these now.
DUDE CRAZY THING !!! THIS IS NUTS THE END OF THE STORY!!! ABOUT HIS NJP I HAD THE SAME SITUATION HAPPEN TO ME!!! I WAS THREATENED BY MY SGT MAJ. IF I FOUGHT THE NJP THEY WOULD COURT MARTAL ME AND MY KIDS WOULDNT RECEIVE ANY BENEFITS THEY WOULD MAKE SURE I WOUNDNT GET RETIREMENT!!!! FUCK THIS PISSES ME OFF
I was in TQ in March-Sept 2004.
To all my Marines who are struggling with depression and mental health. A good friend if mine, retired Master Guns Vietnam veteran told me this when I was in a very dark place.
“Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem “ remember that! Life is a roller coaster. Ups and downs and the sun will come back up no matter how dark it is. Things will get better even if they seem hopeless. Never quit or give up. You are loved. He also told me “Never give the sons of bitches the satisfaction” You end your life and they continue living without a blink of an eye. The ones who will suffer are the ones you leave behind. Semper Fi
Field Grade Article 15's are most often given out as a command pet peeve, usually for something that should of been handled at company level, except they hate you enough to kick it upstairs. E-4 and below should be dealt with at company level for most offenses. Most field grades I've seen were for things like mouthing off or being late for something. Every once in a while, there is a real reason for the field grade Article 15. As in his case, they like to kick it upstairs when they've decide they want you out. There is no recovery from it in most cases. Command hates you.
This is so screwed up. Look what our government did with hurricane Katrina, just left people there without water, food, shelter. Yet when a family preps for this stuff they come in and tear them apart.
I'm glad to see that he's doing so well now despite everything that's happened.
The whole right side of my face is titanium from eye orbit, jaw and chin…. Hell ya brother!
Semper Fi marine your 2 1/2 years are over and above a 30 year career, military or civilian. I bless your spirit and your soul. Remember The saying it’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog. Best of luck and I will be checking out your website

I’m so glad you have stayed here long enough to be well. I would say you’re probably 1 in 100. Most guys would have taken their life in your circumstance. Thank you for your service Keene, glad you made it back home.
And it is great to see they did a phenomenal job on your face too because you are a damn good looking man.. not to get fresh with you I am just saying.
Knowing what I know and hearing your story allows me to see that we, as the children of Vietnam veterans got primed for all the events after 2001. Just like our parents got it when it came to Korea and Vietnam in their generation. Our patriotism was exploited and taken advantage of and even set some people up as examples to be made of if it was convenient for the agenda. You can clearly see how the global uniparty war mongers operating out of the district of criminals for the past 100+ plus years have kept this country in perpetual war, ramping it up every 20 to 30 years, switching political sides every 4 to 8 years to throw the American people off their tracks. I realize that not only are our soldiers forced to endure and suffer if/when they make it back home but their families can become a longstanding target of the war mongers for nefarious purposes as well.
Let all of those traitorous politicians and their families take their asses out to fight a war. And another thing, I see how some of these politicians that are actually veterans (namely a few rinos, I need not mention) how they play their cards once they are in office and I would venture to say that some of them just might champion a cause for wars against the best interests of this country, for their own financial interests and political power gains. People must remain aware at all times that not all have them keep the best interests of this nation at heart.
Bruh these are right next to the Shawn Ryan show in quality 💯💯 absolutely love this channel I’ve been going down the rabbit hole hard for the last few hours 😂
WOW
I can’t imagine 18 year old kids behind weapons to kill and defend the country with their life on tanks and boots on ground until I see the pictures 😢 it is F’n amazing it’s sad but beautiful at the same time. Imagine being that young and facing an enemy that in some cases were double your age or older and experienced that’s insane
That's the majority of war fighters. 21 and younger. The older of the groups are experienced leaders that usually will be behind the Frontline of the younger generation.
They were young men, not kids. And they don’t want anyone to feel sorry. Only respect
In Afghanistan they were often three times our ages. I graduated boot camp and was in my permanent unit before I turned 18
I can't imagine being a young soldier and believing the combat and war's you participated in were actually for a good cause. I hear alot of people say they defended our country and are Patriots to the core. Funny thing is our country lines are not in Vietnam, Iraq , Afghanistan, Libya etc. Coming from a background of military personnel myself I am just saying that there are agendas these young kids will never understand or know about. They are told a different story from the beginning. There's a lot of proof out there that support what I'm explaining. Vietnam was a War we lost. Communism was never eradicated. Our soldiers were however. Iraq??? 😂😂😂 Is the same if not worse prior to invading it for Saddam and his WMD. 😅😅😅 which were never found. Libya 🇱🇾 and Gaddafi is now governed by warlords and in a worse state than when we helped stop him from using gold bullion to affect paper currency. It's no wonder this country is suffering right now internally. Karma
Seriously, most 18 year olds are still kids! Most of them are virgins lol! I would be pissed if I died before getting some.
