When I was in the pen in Canada met a young gangster who had never been camping or hiking ever. Not once. I thought WTF, how is that even possible up here?
I grew up in Huntington Park. Attended and graduated HPHS in 1977. I enlisted in the USMC, Open Contract-0311. I made it out of the neighborhood. My uncle steered me away from trouble. The gand then was Florencia. When I got out, I became a cop. I'm now retired. Just remember, with your kids. You're a role model. Keep up the good work and set a good example. The railroad tracks off Salt Lake Ave. separated our neighborhood.
I'm not from the US and have not served but would like to say this. Stay strong, and God Bless EACH and EVERY U.S VETERAN. You ALL deserve more that you are getting... You sacrifice a lot and your individual sacrifices impact not only your Country but the world... SALUTE
When I was in the Army 82nd Airborne Division I had a buddy he was from LA and a gang member, he told me that a lot of his homies had been killed and he said the reason why he joined the Army was to get out of that lifestyle before it was him that was going to prison or the graveyard.
Saludos carnal, you're a real one. Your story resonates so much with our raza, our youth and what we represent. You grew up wanting to "be somebody" to "earn your stripes". Well you did that and some. Your a fuckin hero, a patriot and I thank you for your service 🤙🏼🇺🇸
This is one of the best interviews I've seen. Josue is honest and real... no fluff. Thank you so much for your service, Corporal Barron... Semper Fi!!!
I served with a guy from Mission District Oakland and was a gang member who got shot 3 times. He was cool overseas, but when we ran into each other in Camp Pendleton, he didn't want to be seen with non-hispanic people, so I never talked to him again. I guess he still held on to gang mentality.
That shit was badass. What a dope interview. It's inspiring to see the mindset he has even through all his obstacles. That's a warrior right there!!💯💯💯
Thank you for **All of your sacrifices** And Service. To all the people in society that doesn't know what a REAL MAN ! Looks like!.... Watch and Listen.!!!!
Favorite channel! Too many of these channels are focusing on “special ops” and don’t realize the ground pounders were the conventional guys!! I love these ❤ keep doing what you’re doing
As he was talking I felt like we lived almost the same life, both streets and military. This was crazy because I lived through the same things, hazing in the military about race, and things of that sort.
I’m a Mexican from California who was troubled as a kid and joined as well… Man your a bad ass, I understand your struggle… You have inspired me to push harder, currently struggling after a divorce and 8 year relationship…I lost faith in myself and humanity… I love what you said especially about relationships…maybe I was the problem… I understand your struggles in service as a Mexican who used to be around that gang banging life… I got our 2013 but I wanna go back every day…. Thanks for your service homie/brother/carnal… You a real one ☝️
Good job on your innovations with your editing style with the thumbnail and transitions and whatnot, this is a very strong interview and I hope it helps your channel reach more people
Wow! You are a true child of God. I hope you reach out to your brothers and sisters that have had similar experiences. Your testament is moving and I think you could help a lot of people. May God bless you.🙏🇺🇸
Great story . Glad you’re doing well and all of your accomplishments. I’m from Los Angeles . When I got out of the Corps LA was a hell hole with all the gang violence . I lost more friends in LA than my time in the suck. Semper Fi !
Your a squared away, strong, individual!! Listening to your life story, you are very wise for your age!! Sounds like you've learned since you were a child, how to adapt, overcome and improvise, through life's journey!! I'm proud of you and all your brothers, I will always love my Countries heroes, stay strong, stay focused, God's Speed! from Texas!!
From a fatherless boy running the Streets, to a Leatherneck, husband, dad & world class athlete! You my brother are a sincere inspiration! I cannot fully comprehend it all, but God is so very good! Semper-Fidelis Barron!
Thank you sir and all those that have served. Shout out to Urban Valor for the dedication to let us civilians understand what these heroes have gone through including the families . 🇺🇸
I knew Tawney from SOI in 2005. We were sent to different units after and I never heard from him again. I wasn't aware that he was killed. It's crazy how small the marine corps really is. I was with 2/7 in 2008. I was in nowzad though, not sangin. The company we had in sangin saw some serious fighting as well. S/F!
I love you brother. Growing up with Josue was a blessing. He was very shy, to my surprise, I didn’t know he did what he did. However, the man he is today, is someone I desire to be. He understood his path in life and never let anything nor anyone get him down. What a prime example of a man, father, and husband. I am blessed to see a childhood friend become a hero. God Bless. Thank You for your service brother. 🇺🇸
SALUTE TO THIS MAN! 39:36 - he has such an amazing perspective and outlook on life based on his experiences - like where he describes being woken up by the dr and his reaction to his injuries epitomises why he and many like him are true warriors. Nothing but #madrespect for marines. Great Channel and content. 🔥
I salute this true Mexican/American " Hero" who came from the only world he new living in a E.L.A. Barrio gang to becoming a Marine Leader saving the life of his comerad being a hero that his son's can look up to, hats off to his wife for supporting his future journey. From one Vet to another. I got out marines in 03 but a pog mos..our hazing nothing like that. I’d have ended up getting booted I think lol. Respect to grunts for all they tolerate.
Maybe I'm being an asshole but did Semper Fi sort of implies he's gone. Please tell me he still is Semper Fidelis. I'm Canadian but totally respect your USMC.
I'm still watching here up north. From what I gather he's still Semper Fi. Don't need eyes or legs for that. Just a heart. I'll pray Semper Fidelis goes between you and your wife too. I had a lady like that up till about 2 years ago. I was very lucky for 15 years and now she's gone. We were different. When I met her she was 25 and I 46. I never dreamed I'd end up in a relationship with her. I was old and I ain't much. She was a young tall skinny blond who morphed into my common law wife. My best friend. Lover always faithful and not only that, pretty much a Comrade too. When I met her she never said things like, we're late. We got to ruck up and jump off right fucking now. Why didn't you wake up you fucking retard! Said with a big smile. Retard was her goto insult for me. I swear, I believe this lady would of dove on a grenade to save me. We were together almost always. 24-7. Usually holding hands. They few times we argued for real I still couldn't leave the house without kissing her. I knew when she was pissed because she'd use my real name Robert instead of my handle or Nick name my parents gave me as a baby, Tys. No lie, first day of school I'm sure they thought I was a retard because I didn't even know my name was Robert. Hence, she'd call me that as a joke. I miss her so much it hurts. I was 61 before I learned life's hardest lesson. If 2 people really truely love each other it can only end one way. One has to die. That's just a fact. Suppose both could die at the same time. Enough said about this piece of shit. It's about this outstanding Marine. Thank you for your service and do what it takes to Semper Fi your wife till you're both very old, but till loving each other. I don't have the right words to express enough respect for this Marine who walked the walk that almost took him from his wife.
This man is a beast, Semper Fi brother. I was with 3/7 when you (3/5) ripped us. That first couple weeks, I think you guys had already lost 9 marines if I can recall correctly. Sangin and Musa Qala were no joke
What a humbling great dude and he’s right, love cures all ills. Either love someone or something, purpose. Even a dog is a lifesaver. Too many guys stay quiet and go inwards. You have to find it
Every situation and base is different. But just from stories I've heard it seems they haze those who are okay with it. And they like to push and push to see how much shit you are willing to deal with till they push you over that edge and you stand up to them. And when you stand up to them at first they will not seem to react or if anything go harder but once you show you will stand up to them and aren't afraid you gain their trust. Even if they don't admit or show it. But again every station is different.
I couldn’t serve because of my health issues from diabetes incepudus. I drink a lot of water and I urine every hour but my sugar health is fine. I remember the words that my doctor said as a kid: if you go to the desert without water you will die from dehydration. All of my friends joined the infantry but I was the only that stayed as a normal citizen.
You would be surprised how many people don’t know this diagnosis it’s a rare form of diabetes I’m a paramedic with 10 years of experience and it surprises me how many paramedics don’t know what it is
When he talked about that hazing stuff that was crazy. I tried to enlist but couldn't and I respect you guys and girls that did but man he's right some of that shit doesn't even make sense. You're building a marine not a nut job so why treat someone like it.
I tried to join the marines or the army in 2009 I took a test in the army recruitment station and the recruiter said he could of recruited me right there n then but they had passed a law that u needed a high school diploma or ged and I had just dropped out of high school .. but I was tipping into gangs n a lot of homies were dying I just had a baby boy and had no job I needed that real bad I need the army or the marines … I needed it to get out of the life and help me become something in life unfortunately like I said they couldn’t recruit me because I didn’t have a diploma and 6 months later now deep af in the gang lifestyle I ended up catching a attempted murder 187 case and being convicted of 187 att murder . Sentenced to 12 years in prison at the age of 18 I lost my wife lost my newborn child . My girl left me I ended up picking up a drug habit in there now full blown heroin addict with no job 😢 no future I’m 33 years old I got out prison 3 years ago but my addiction is unbearable my life’s in shambles I cant stop to think of what my life would of been if only I would of been accepted in the arm forces 😢…life is fuckn crazy!! Nevertheless josue thank you for your service 🫡 god bless you for the blood u shed for this wonderful country of ours I’m glad you got blessed and got out the LA gang life I just told u my life it didn’t work for me but many blessings to u n your loved ones!
