- This week’s Urban Valor episode features Marine veteran Nivardo Gonzalez.
Nivardo grew up in Long Beach, CA. He wasn’t interested in college, so he enlisted in the Marine Corp as an Infantry Rifleman. Nivardo conducted two combat deployments during his enlistment.
During one of those deployments, he and his unit were met with intense combat after occupying a Taliban stronghold known as the “Green House.”
Nivardo leaves us with how his experience in the military changed his life and what he’s doing to keep a healthy mental state of mind.

I felt a lot of guilt for not re enlisting and going back. Martin, Gross, Blesi were outstanding. Favela was a great dude. A true machine gunner. Gross carried the SAW for 1st squad. Blesi had the Mark11 and Martin carried the 16/203. Carusi was another one. Tough guys. Great guys. I felt bad for leaving them behind. Definitely remember Martuneac. Cortez-Peck, Grant’s black ass. Incredible junior marines. Hallock was already a combat vet from the army.. just great guys. They’re all warriors. Semper Fi. 3/4 Lima Co. 1st plt. ((MAIN EFFORT)) 2006-2010.

At 41:05 he's talking about the Wolfhound. I was a wolfhound operator during my one tour in Afghanistan. You can intercept radio signals from a broad range of frequencies and even listen in. If you have two or three operating in sync you can actually get grid locations of the signals so in case you want to call for fire or even hunt them down. If you are running just the one, at least give you an azimuth and an approximate location by distance since the single unit has 8 antennas that the unit will basically take the signal strength of each antenna and calculate a distance and direction.

This has been one of your best ones yet. They are all great, but this one got me more because I, too, was born in L.A. and raised in Long Beach, father from Mexico, mom from L.A., enlisted in the Coprs at 17 and boot camp at 18. Served during Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

I enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1980. I thought a lot had changed about the Marine Corps. I was terribly wrong, Listening to this young Marines story it immediately took me back to my time in the Corps. Semper Fi’ brother.

Nivardo, a powerful story you delivered, brother. Therapy has many forms. Do formal therapy and do activities that produce therapeutic results. Rock climbing, biking, working out, meditation, reading, volunteer work, martial arts, surround yourself with positive energy and work on removing yourself from unhealthy environments. We have all been around chaos; when we move away from it, it helps.

Hella dumb that teachers let kids bully others like that and when they retaliate get expelled.
For real. It should be understood though, that the Communist / Globalist element within the nation has been trying to instill those kinds of conditioned reactions into us for decades, to weaken our resolve, so they can take over the world. They don't even hide this anymore and often speak publicly about such efforts and there's still a bunch of retarded sheeple that have no idea this is happening in our country.
I can't wait till we decide to carte blanche kick all their asses!

Sad part is, the year before my son (2nd grade) kept having trouble with a kid. Talked with everyone at school about it and it was never addressed. Last year we moved him to a much better school. He could more than take care of himself, been in jiujitsu for over 2 years. He didn’t want to handle it that way, but I knew it was coming.
I heard him say suspended both times. Suspended verses expelled is a big difference. He said they were talking about expelling on the second offense, but suspended him instead.

I've been enjoying this channel since it was only a few videos large. As I listen to these men and women, the stories of PTSD... I have no idea if this helps at all, but I work with Afghan refugees who had to flee since the takeover. Hearts and minds worked. Democracy worked. An entire generation was able to go to university and get educated. They got to wear ripped jeans and enjoy freedom. This wouldn't be possible without all of you! So when you're deep in it, I want you to know they are grateful. And all your fighting!? It was NOT useless. It was not a waste of your time. People are better off because of you... And now I takeover with my work since the Taliban takeover. Thank you for your service.
That is helpful, thank you. My father served three tours in Afghanistan, my childhood was defined by his absence. I later served in Iraq, our family has a special place in our hearts for the Afghan and Iraqi people.
I’ve listened to many of your podcasts/interviews and this one was one of my favorites. I’m a MoM (Mom of a Marine) and so interested in the ‘transition back home’ period for all you brave men and women. I pray it gets easier and our military does more about it.

I was a tanker with 1st tanks delta co my platoon was attached to this battalion at that time. I spent a lot of time at the sharks tooth and all over that whole AO
You are so right about advocating for yourself. We (military as well) are not taught to see help so when we get out we are like what the hell do I do now. For other people stay connected to your local VA office and search for stuff online. You will be surprised at the available resources to you. Networking is a great tool, again not taught but force yourself because there might not be someone next to you to and although I’m not an expert by any means, I think that’s why there are suicides because they feel there is no one to turn to for help. Glad you’re doing better. Keep doing good things for yourself and others. God bless. 🙏🏼

@@BackwoodTV_ The main difference is that the Marines are a specific fighting force that can attack on both land and sea. Soldiers in the U.S. Army are often responsible for attacks that occur on land. Technically, the Marines are also a part of the U.S. Navy. This, again, reinforces the notion that Marines must be ready for battles at sea, on land, and everything in between.

Birthdays in the military are funny things. I turned 18 in basic, 19 when I got to my first unit, 20 in the Middle East lol. Crazy times.
Wolfhound system is what the gear is that allows u to hear the enemy radios. Great piece of gear helped get us PID
In my experience and after you completed a pump you were eligible to do the indoc for SS and Recon. I noticed it was always the guys that were too smart for the line platoons haha.

“Hazing” is extremely useful in the military and it plays a valuable role in molding soldiers into the effective fighting mechanism they need to become while doing such a job!! The average civilian or boot just wouldn’t understand it quite frankly… But as he stated, it’s simply just good training!! 👏🏼🙌🏼🤷🏻♂️

The gear he’s talking about is the THOR if he’s talking about what I think he is. It’s a signal hammer that comes in a couple different types that jam high to low frequency signals.

Remember these people volunteered for this. They were not conscripted. That alone makes our soldiers 100 times the weapon than any extremist. Other countries force military involvement.
