Starlink Satellites Obstructions Are Lowering Internet Speed To 4O MPS, But It's Very Useable..

For those who have wondered about the problems you might encounter from trees and mountains that are in between your Starlink Satellite receiver and the satellites, I've been in some bad locations, where I wondered if the obstructions would be a problem, but so far every one I've installed has worked just fine. I have seen the speed significantly reduced in some locations, but so far the lowest internet speeds I've seen were 4O MPS, but that was still more than enough to customer happy. In better locations I've seen the speed reach to around 170 MPS.
On this job I was concerned about the range of the wifi signal being able to reach the guest house, but I placed the modem next to a window facing the guest house, and found the signal was strong enough to stream video to a smart TV over to the guest house.
David, a few things: Starlink overcomes what Hughesnet couldn't...line of sight issues. Also, hope your taking great care on those roofs...a fall would be a killer. Fall restraint harnesses with a tieoff rope is a hassle, but with higher pitched roofs definitely a consideration. Last, I'm shocked that WiFi router has that kind of range...what brand is it? Also, hope you are charging a sufficient install fee...you are accomplishing with such an install what customers in the Hughesnet world have been crying for for a long, long time. Excellent work.
The wifi modem is the unit starlink sends you as part of their package. You're right about the dangers of going up on roofs, after 5 or 6 years of this I've had some close calls, and I'm ready for a new profession.
Very interesting. Haven't come across much about Starlink, though I haven't looked too much either. Thanks for sharing. The reach on that wifi is pretty impressive.
I'm not sure how the wifi compares to most other wifi modems on the market, but I should have mentioned I put his modem next to window facing the guest house. Not having to go through walls helped.
starlink is such awesome thing
Just bought myself a dishy for here in Australia. Our NBN network is rubbish in my area due to old copper infrastructure, so Starlink is my best option.
G'day....how's the heat down there as you and the Joeys approach summer? Our summers in the States are terribly hot.
Very cool. I a new fan of yours. Im Going through your videos now.✌️
Thank you for the upload 🙂
Wow! That's an impressive unit, size and performance wise, seemingly. I recall the old large dishes that required 800 square feet of land (or so it seemed, LOL).
I remember the size of those old satellites. Some people are now converting them to parabolic solar heat generators.
Have you installed many of these things now? I remember telling you to look into becoming an installer for them a while ago. TBH, I'd sacrifice 60% of my internet speed to live in a spot like that!
For the guest house, you could relay the signal with power line adapters (cheap and simple if both structures are on the same power supply line) or a directional antenna access point, rather than relaying on the wireless router signal to reach over there.
Good ideas for the internet signal!
I've done 7 of these starlink satellites. Some of my customers said they signed up a year in advance to get one delivered, but my last customer told me he only waited two months, and he got speeds up to 170 MPS.
what is MPS? mbps or MBps?
Hey looking for some advise on my Samsung tv. The remote only works for about 30 seconds after unplugging. Do you think it’s the Ir sensor or board related?
I can't be certain without doing tests, but if it were in my shop I'd start by replacing the IR sensor on the IR sensor board and see what happens. If that didn't fix the problem I'd replace the whole IR sensor board.
Ok I will try that
I'd put a smear of something ... Grease or tar on the threads. Or something to prevent water from getting trapped under the shingle. Or a dollop of Daisy on the bolts. Just my 2¢. Still gonna be a pain for whoever removes it one day. Rust etc. That fascia board looking a tiny bit flakey as well. 😂
Yes for sure. I always use a sealer.
Why do you call the transmitter/reciver satellite, and not dish/satellite dish. You almost called it satellite dish but "corrected" yourself
I'm sure it cost more than $8. That's a twitter joke. 😃
LOL
