Ballet for a Girl In Buchannon (or simply “The Ballet” to Chicago fans) is up next and is a 13 minute tour de force that includes the very best of what this band has to offer. Written as a multi-piece composition by trombonist James Pankow, two of the segments were carved out by Columbia records and became top ten Billboard hits (Make me Smile and Colour my World - the latter of which became one of the all time classic prom and wedding songs). In fact, Frank Sinatra wanted to record Colour My World and asked Pankow to write another verse. Pankow refused - yup, the 25-at-the-time year-old Pankow turned down Old Blue Eyes and it never happened.

I played the flute part so many times! Sometimes, I would sing the vocal in performances including when I renewed my wedding vows in 2000. Sadly she passed away in 2012.

I was very lucky to have played in a band with my three brothers and three additional "brass section" guys back in the early 70's. When we first added the brass guys, "Wake Up Sunshine" was the very first song we tried out, and I'll never forget how wonderful it sounded with the brass and the three-part vocal harmonies coming thru the sound system the first time we tried it at practice! We would use this song as our opener at the high school dances and wedding receptions that we played in those days!

Very Beatle-Esque, and if you guys can imagine, The Beatles were still a powerful influence and had just broken up in 1970, so there were homages in music to them all over the place. Still a wonderful song.

The "warm up" idea is not bad. For me, this song simply ensures relaxation and a good mood.

      “…with my own money…”
Yes - getting an album for your birthday was one thing but laying out $3.27 of your own money seemed perilous sometimes
The $3.27 price was the on sale price of single albums at Alwik’s and Vogel’s, competing record stores In Elizabeth NJ. Imagine getting Houses Of the Holy for $3.27, which I did 😁

I always start with this one when I listen to this album. I feel it's the beginning to a suite of songs that should all be heard together. Now, there's an idea!!! This song just makes me smile! 😊🌤️❤️ P. S. All the next few songs are relatively short and they flow into each other. Oh!! How I love this album!!

Guess I'm going to subscribe. Know why? No one, but no one, reacts to this. I find the song very catchy and I love how the brass faces off against the melody that's sung. As far as the song ending, I like that they can actually write a song that ends. The only reason songs have historically faded was to accommodate disc jockeys being able to talk over the diminishing volume at the end as a segue into what they were doing next in their show. Songs that fade out forever drive me nuts, and they're easier to write; you just don't figure out how to end them. Thanks so much for doing this one. Love this song. :)

This is a nice driving song, windows down, cranked up and singing along.
The NEXT suite of seven songs, which make up "Ballet For A Girl In Buchannon", will take you an an almost 15 minute tour of the range of Chicago's performers both as individual talents and as an ensemble of seven masterpiece musicians. THAT reaction I am anticipating A LOT!!!

This whole album is a bottle sunk's connected and so you have to remember that's why there's some abrupt stops little do that on all the rabbits but this album particular has a lot of songs that run together and so they're stopping the song so it doesn't start the next one

Can't remember whether I've suggested *"Atomsko"* to you, yet. A bit obscure for reactions, I'd guess (unless you also have a Yugoslavian channel), but I think you'd find the three minutes or so it takes to listen to it well spent, just for your own good sakes. ua-cam.com/video/qiGk20X2zpQ/v-deo.html

@@SightAfterDark Might do so one day, but I'm happy enough to just point you to things you might enjoy listening to in some spare moment. (And I don't think you'd get all that many views for an Atomsko reaction - although as you might've seen, they're genuinely big in their home country.

There are songs on this album that I will change the station if they come on the radio by themselves. On the other hand when I listen to the album end to end those songs fit, and add to the listening enjoyment. Color My world comes to mind. Boring alone, but a valuable piece of the album.

A bit like Saturday in the Park. Not quite as catchy.
