Great video Marcus! Definitely the go to man for all things retro escort and thanks for the endorsement of reputable service agents, Merry Christmas & keep the videos coming for 2021 !
interesting video Marcus. What about making one, about how you came to own Ester and Maude, their history and what they were like, when you first got them.
Thanks for posting. I'm about to start a RWD Zetec setup for either an Anglia 105e or Mk 1 Cortina. I still haven't bought the car yet so I'll be doing a mock setup on an engine jig first. Hopefully, when all the lockdown stuff sorts itself out I'll be able to get out and look at a few project car options. Keep up the good work.
Good to see someone doing a breakdown of parts like this, I'm considering a zetec swap on my Mk5 cortina I will be studying these videos when the time comes to start buying parts, cheers 👍
Brilliant man, im in the mist of doing a zetec on 45s into my mk1 gt1300.. I want to keep the 4sp and the cable clutch to keep the budget down this really helped me out thank you....
Good video m8,its nice to share what you no as not everyone has a big budget 👍,o always remember to tell people if you are using a auto engine and going manual to fit a spigot bearing in the crank . I look forward to bumping in to you some where next year as i have them head light buckets for you . Keep safe and have a great Christmas 👍👍
Bless your beaut of a Mrs🔥 wen she's in your car with you she always seems to get shuck around ..intresting vid today never doubt your knowledge on fords look forward to new the new years content.hope you both have a great Xmas an prosperous new Year💪👌👊👊👊
Great insight for anyone looking at the mod, as for engine mounts, we have found the old world cup type mounts which will not let the engine come loose and drop down and have save the day, and if you did not know the rubber bush used are the steel sleeve bush used on the Escort rear springs, The old 38 DGAS with 100 correctors is also a good carb off some of the old Ford V6's, but are very hard to get your hands on now, Love that you are sharing you knowledge mate, well done and yes i have now subscribe.
Can't beat retroford for quality, help and fitment. Unless the sumps have the extra bolt holes and spreader bars like the early RF steel sumps, they will always leak. I've used 2 dunne ones, both leaked. I know of another in a Capri, currently leaking. I'm going straight to RF for the cast alloy sump. Yeah, it's expensive but it's quality. Sump, water rail and mounts. The rest of the parts can be made to fit and work well. Good vid
Merry Christmas to you both☃️ Have you thought of putting a Mazda gearbox on Maude. You can get a conversion kit from retro. Might make for a nicer daily with 6 gears and one of the best gear changes??
Great informative vid m8 only question possibly asked is what gearbox and prop are the best to use and fit ...apart from that 👍 hope you both have an good Christmas ..
Interesting vid mate wish I’d of seen this before building mine My st170 escort is running the me221 and Dan’s throttlebodies it’s all ok decent stuff tbh currently making my own adaptor plate for the standard bike/bodies mounts Sump is Neil dunnes not had any issues with it tbh had a small leak near the pulley but was ok after a tweak RetroFord mounts are good and alt kit worked a treat after some cutting like you said. Neil’s fly wheel and water rail I like a crank sensor and had to space it .. I’ve used your budget hose setup for the bottom one as I had a pinto RS rad like yours and a samco top one as I had this lying around Exhaust is a custom one by n.a.w automotive absolute work of art! We deffo need a meet up next year ! Are you doing a vid before Christmas? Be nice to have a crimbo one! If not have a lovely Christmas. Clean that knee up for when your down on one knee! Heard it here first ❤️
Built not bought mate.. Takes me back to when I did everything to my first car, a ‘79 MkV 2L Cortina.. loved that car! It died when some dopey mare in a Mercedes pulled out in front of me at a junction and I smacked into her.. was gutted! Anyway, Merry Xmas to you and Cat mate 🎅🏼

Marcus great vid bud very informative on both set ups the inlet manifold is from a Brisca F2 stock-car they used to run 2ltr pintos until reasently they started running duratec engines in them they race on short ovals all around the uk
Very interesting and well described with lots of info,I didn’t know that about a plated lsd.i fitted one of they piper systems from how to my mk2 great bit of kit,had same thing with the old ashaly banging on floor lol...... thanks for another decent video love your first hand knowage and descriptions of the parts and suplyers
If the sump is made of pressed steel, they can bend when fitting, and they will leak. All pressed steel sumps have a habit of leaking if they are torqued up to tight. Cast sump pans might be heavy but they won't leak. (Good vid)
Totally agree mate! 👍 I want to fit sumps that have been made from a modified genuine Ford sumps and I THINK a company I tried before has just made another batch 🤞. . . . . . The sumps I have fitted are absolute junk!! (altho if the supplier sees this comment they may threaten me with court action again! 😃)
@@marcushayesford I've still got a new fiesta sump that I never did fit, I just left the old one on, I didn't see the point of fitting a new sump and still having to deal with a leak, I still have the sump, I don't have the fiesta anymore tho. I'd feel guilty if I sold this sump to anyone, cheap pressed steel crap. It'll come in handy for something, a keys bowl probably, or a door stop
Thanks mate! 👍Neither of my cars have a servo fitted. ‘Maude’ has a master cylinder from a non servo Mk2 Escort (very hard part to find nowadays) and ‘Esther’ has a bias pedal box. 👍
Very interesting video, it’s nice to see how you have done both your conversions compared to the three we have done, each one is slightly different as better parts come out. We have fitted Ashley systems to all three of ours, and extended the pipes down on each one, the Piper system looks so nice compared. The only thing you didn’t mention was the gearbox cross member, we have an adjustable on our mk2 which was a faff until we found a wedge spacer for the type9 and magically it fitted. The mk1 has a fixed mount but the car has a big tunnel so I welded the mounts in at the same time as the tunnel was fitted. Almost all our stuff is from Retro Ford, as they have been really helpful but not cheap. Do you have expansion tanks in either of the cooling systems? Our mk1 always spits a bit of water out, but we have just fitted one to the mk2 so once it’s on the road we can see if it helps. We have retro ford alloy cast sumps on both and so far so good, the steel ones were pretty hopeless. Keep up the interesting videos.
I did have to make a spacer to go between the gearbox crossmember and the box itself to raise the gbox up a bit. I’m using GS Escort lowering blocks which also act as an adapter so you don’t need to reposition the mounts on the tunnel (its a bit of a bodge tho) 👍
How much power do you make with the carb on one of these engines? I'm from the US and I'm tossing around the idea of putting a zetec in a fors ranger that I am doing a rally cross build on. It currently has a lima sohc 2.3
Merry Christmas to you and cat another brilliant video mate my brother has a retro ford sump fitted to his st 170 with a rx8 gearbox in a mk1,Humber sceptre retro ford expensive but a very nice bit of kit top workman ship comes with pickup gasket and dipstick 👍👍👍
Merry Christmas Marcus and kat (cat) , I have one question for You... have you ever scared (cat (kat) (sorry unsure on spelling) by drifting, or by your driving style ?.. , don’t get me wrong I love rear ends out, I just never managed it with my hillman imp 😂😂😂, it’s a fun car but, I am currently building a mk2 escort more door , currently only a 1300 cross flow , but hoping to put a zetec turbo I have in another car into my escort, thanks for the info as it has helped lots for my project, I love the channel please keep up the good work mate hope to see you at a Ford show one day and we’ll done on keeping the classics going mate , much more fun than modern plastic 😂😂
The problem you have with your sump is they expand at different rates thats why they leek if you get a full height alloy one there won't be a problem but great conversion for a for Ford escort great explanation of the conversion though my first car was a 1.6 mk2 two door

Why is the blue mk1 a garage queen? Will it ever see the roads 👍🏻 Also the sump and the chap talking court action I’m in the exact same situation with a different company they just don’t like been told the items poor do they! Wow..
Iv never tried an ATB but I'v heard they'r not as aggressive. My clutch plates usually last around 18 months - 2 years, but I do drive the car everyday. 👍
Fair play for giving a truthful run down of what is good & bad from personal experience, sadly quite rare in these days of online content.
Great to see someone sharing detailed information gained from personal experience to make it easier for others to do similar conversions.
Thanks.
Brilliant vid mate. Clear, concise explanations of how your setups have been achieved. Mucho gracias. 👍
I like the straight forward advice about what to use, and who not to use.
that sound out Maudes exhaust takes me way back to the good old days,my kind of car

oh hey same lol
We really need more videos on old escorts.. especially xflow engines and pintos
Great video, would be good to see something similar on the transmissions (type 9 vs 6-speed and mods required).
Top video. Think the engine swaps are a great idea to keep these cars running into the future.

Nice to have a good overview of both build.

Thanks for your great videos good effort and merry Christmas to you and cat
Well explained mate great vid as always keep up the good work 👍

Great information but what about transmission. I was hoping for more on the actual fwd to rwd conversion.
Good video and some good info for anyone that's going to attempt this conversion.

Great video as usual, what brake master cylinder do u use ?
We're did you get a carb intake for a zetec

Nice one Marcus love the video

Nicely explained. I’ve got an st170 setup but I’m sticking with a high Comp pinto for now out of a brisca f2 stock car.
👍
Great video Marcus very informative and good comparisons
👍
If I loved fords more than Austin mini’s I would follow your lead easy to follow instructions of how you have got where you have with both escorts
👍
Hey, did you need to upgrade the brakes with the extra power from the new engines or does it pull up alright ?

Hi, what degrees is the mk2 sitting at? As it look high at the front. then the mk1and do you need to put baffles in the sump, to stop oil starvation?
Are you running a Mazda RX8 gearbox on your escorts I really need some info on gear box mounts and prop shaft lengths
Good information Marcus 👍

Didn't you have a blue rocker cover on the MK1 ? Merry Christmas to you and Cat, have a good one!! stay safe.👍🎅

whats the colour code if ester
Very useful info thanks.
Okay perfect video and thanks you ☺️

will the z tec line up with the original mk1/2 escort gearbox or will they need flanges ?
they line up, same bolt pattern, but needs to be a 4 cylinder bell housing, not av6 one from the capri/cortina
