I love Graemes style. No big sell. Just good quality advice on the cheap. I have seen guys turn up at carp lakes actually using buckets to pour in boillies. I just pack up and leave in those conditions.
Use to fish the opposite bank into the hole behind the falling tree never cut anything but lovely barbel in their, free stretch looks good this year will be trying some TA ground bate, thanks for the videos I have bin out of fishing for a fue years but you have boosted my confidence thanks
Yes,about 400 yards up from the bypass bridge. I think the best of the winter chubbing is further downstream, but I don't fish them in the winter as I get easily sidetracked by the great pike fishing. Looking forward to this autumn, just hope it doesn't flood.
Nice video Graeme. I'm planning my first ever river fishing session on the River Anker this coming Monday. Just taking maggots, 7ft ledger rod might start off with a maggot feeder and switch to a bomb depending on fish action, just on my box sticking to one spot on a section which has variable features, looking forward to it...be a nice change to fishing commercials (all frozen now due to weather) despite the possibility of blanking and thats kind of what i'm expecting but gotta give it a go...who knows? a nice Chub? maybe just a few small Roach, i wont mind at all. Free stretch too. All the best mate and tight lines.
Thanks Graeme. Its a very slow moving stretch, in fact its almost as still as a lake and just by the look of it, it looks quite deep. I see anglers tend to fish a link ledger on rivers (two swan shots) but if i understand correctly, this is to just about hold bottom when there is a strong current, enabling the bait to look more natural though i'm probably wrong. So i'm thinking i'll probably be better off with just a straight lead (3/4 oz). Should be an interesting day anyway. Thanks again.
Exactly, They have an inbuilt genetic defence to respond to movement otherwise they get eaten.I believe if you baited a large fish tank with every bright colour of boilie available they would eat the lot equally. They wouldn't just say "Oh,I love that pink one,but I'll only eat the greens". They whack the lot down. If you hooked that same carp on a pink bait and released it three times, then it would probably avoid the pink. Then maybe they can associate colours with danger
You can roll anything. Use a big piece of luncheon meat. I sometimes cut off the corners from the square, trying to make it more circular so it rolls better. Good Luck. Now is the time for barbel on meat.September and October I reckon are the prime months. They feed hard ready for the winter. Good Luck.T/A Fishing.
I had all the camouflage gear over 40 years ago, trousers, hat, jacket. Then I watched a guy in a white shirt standing in full view of barbel/chub on a summer day, hammer me out of site with fish while I had the camo gear on. Made me feel stupid. Ever since then I've worn what colours I want and caught enough fish to fill a trawler. They definitely see silhouettes, and especially movement..All I know is I wear bright colours and still catch fish, I like to stand out from the crowd! Tight lines!
Yes,I like lighter rods anyway as I don't target specimen fish,I'm happy with whatever comes along, big or small .Don't forget some quivertips can be bought with a single lower or butt section, and a selection of multi-tips for the top.Saves buying several different rods.
Just to add to the debate, I'm pretty sure fish can't see out of water. When brought out of the water, they become very short sighted. This is what often causes them to flap about on the bank. While in the water however, they have very good vision which is adapted to low light conditions. Whether they can see out of the water, whilst in the water, I'm not sure. They can however, definately detect movement and vibrations.
I'm guessing that the fish see the same out of the water as we do when you dive underwater and open your eyes. You can sort of see,but its all fuzzy. At least they don't have the red-eye-sting-syndrome from Chlorine in a swimming pool !! T/A Fishing
Great informative and entertaining video Graeme as usual, but who on earth did you employ to do the rendering on the back of your house? you could climb up it!
Can chub live in salt water because I was fishing in the river and caught a few chub the I was fishing in the sea off the shore and caught what I think is a chub it's exactly the same as I caught in the river ?
I think they might be able to tolerate brackish water but I don't think they would live in the ocean. Are you sure its not mullet you are catching. That species does live in salt but can live a long way upriver.
good stuf like your vids cheep bate tips simple rigs hav you ever fished the river mersey in cheshier its 10min from me but hard water its deep i ad ell roch pirch chub pike but no carp or breem but i mostly fish for pike and purch u ever fancy a cupple days pike/pirch fishing with me gis a shout
fish cant see colours?????? have a read taff.... Fish do indeed perceive color. Every fly fisher knows that or ought to know that. Like humans, the retina of a fish have rods and cones. Cones are used in the day and rods at night. Color vision evolved to help fish identify potential food. In the environment of the fish, the background will either be the bottom, the water itself, or if looking up for food it could be the sky.
Nice video.
what a beauty!

Free sounds good to me...Good luck with it. Whatever you catch on a river is always worthwhile.

Love carping, a 10 pounder from my local river fights a lot harder than most fisheries carp.
T/Afishing show is NO 1...

I love the way u said you touch ledgerd but you had a quiver tip on top
You should make some more chub videos, they're great!
Love Graem,es vids, very informative, informal and entertaining, like John Wilson without the irritating laughter, keep up the good work mate
another great video, i hit the like button!
very helpful indeed! will have to use these tactics on the dove. can you roll meat as well as cheese?
I would think so if and if I were to roll meat I would make it more circular do it rolls better hope this helps
Very nice video, make more videos how to catch chub on lures.
I believe those two 'Ledgering fingers' on the Left hand are termed the 'Ring Finger' and the 'Courting Finger' - both for obvious reasons, haha !!
EPICK
i wish i could find someone silly enough to pay me to fish,i would be a very happy man
awesome video as always

god i love TAF
Time to go back to those stretches , 7 years on and ask the Question, what is the point of the EA, and why do we pay for a licence!
nice vid :)
Do you think that using light feeder rods could be more sensitive? I mean would it be more easy to sense fish bait or its just same for all rods?
Great informative and entertaining video Graeme as usual, but who on earth did you employ to do the rendering on the back of your house? you could climb up it!
Nice fish graeme :D
lovely chubly grae,,,,,,

TAFishing maybe it is I can't identify the species but it looks kinda like chub that was why I was asking thanks

I am sure Graeme will love to hear this !! A great video as usual made with plenty of info and humour....Excellent.
nothing new.
Good angler, knows his stuff, but quite an annoying bloke!
Matt Cullum You should try living with him !!! I have to look at him every time I shave in the morning......drives me to distraction..
more entertaining than annoying lol
