This video brought back many fond memories of trips to Aldermaston Mill in the 70's. At the time I was living in Tadley and a founding member of Kennet Ospreys AC out of Basingstoke. My PB Barbel at 9lb 3oz was from the Benyons stretch of the Kennet. Unfortunately we do not have Barbel in the USA. I usually cross the pond once a year to retaste the pleasures of fishing in England. Thanks for reminding me that a lot of the old baits we used in the 50's, 60's & 70's still catch quality fish. TTFN
That Takes me back!! The Kennet runs behind my Mums house in Reading and I spent most of my youth fishing the Holy Brook, The Kennet and The Thames all of which were within walking distance. Fishing for Bass now in The States. Not the same!!
Great video as usual. Your barbel videos have helped me a great deal. We don't have barbel where I live. We have white suckers and redhorse suckers. They aren't even related to barbel, but they feed on the same sort of foods. In March they run up the creeks, like salmon, to spawn. This time of year, they're in the deep pools in pods and you can catch them all day long through the winter. It's been even better fishing since I started using your barbel techniques. Tight lines.
Arh the Kennet, Dreams are made on that river you know, My biggest pike, 26 lbs, biggest chub 6lb 11oz, and my very 1st barbal 5lb ish, Thanks for another great vid mate, brings back the memories.
Sadly I've never caught a Barbel, but I'm determined to change that! Your videos whether it 2012 or 2017 are great. I do enjoy going through your videos. Channels like yours have reinvigorated my love to get back out on the banks. Would be great to see you visit spots from videos 4/5yrs ago and see if things have changed. Smashing fish at the end, so envious!!
H2 seven You'll be hooked (excuse the pun) on Barbel once you've caught one. My best ever Barbel catch was 16 fish for 112lb in 5 Hours 30 + years ago on the upper Bristol Avon at Limpley Stoke, all the while with the Bailiff sat behind me who was intending to fish himself but, was so busy watching me he ended up not fishing.
a fishery can be defined as waster that contains fish that is maintained and looked after. so even most rivers and lakes that aren't pay lakes are still usually considered fisheries.
Very ! I guess 15 to 25 years.I don't keep buying new rods as the old ones are still piling out the fish. A bit like old golf clubs. If they give you a good score why change them ?
Great, nice one... my father used to fish using elderberries I can recall, have you tried those at all ? I can't actually remember what he used to catch them with though ?
ive been barbell fishing many, many years and holding and looking at a fish does not kill them. if its happened to you then you had them out of the water 4 too long or maybe they die because they don't like the look of you lol. just kidding about the last remark but seriously fish are fine out of the water for a bit. You sound like a righteous joe
Ellis Brook That's 3 different species. I suggest you check in with your local tackle shop, I am sure they will be able to give you the advice you need. Chub and Barbel will need one rod, the pike another.
Don't know what you mean ? Where else would I go ? Do you mean day ticket fisheries ? If so,yes,I am not in any fishing clubs. I don't like being tied to one area.
@@TAFishing Unfortunately we don't have any left in Norfolk now, being 38 and never a member of the "special syndicates" I missed the hey days. Hopefully one day I'll end up fishing a river that contains them though 🎣
Love the videos, I like your more 'traditional' methods but for god's sake loose the awful muzak what does all that fretboard wanking have to do with the peace of the countryside?.......lol

He would have been fishing for roach.I actually tried with the bailiff on that stretch who used Elderberries, but I don't think we had any roach.

Have you ever fished the river Ure Boroughbridge
No, Sorry never fished there.
Do you know what tackle rod \ reel I should use I read that there are barbel chub and pike in the river thanks for the help

What line test do you have
Is the guy on the meat using braid reel line or mono
Probably just mono.
Do you only go to fisheries?
how old are your rods
I think I must be the only angler in the UK who hasn't caught a barbel.
They are well worth catching,I don't think you'll forget the first one.
