‘A botched prosecution’: Alec Baldwin’s trial gets shock ending fit for Hollywood
The high-stakes case, which saw the actor charged in the death of Halyna Hutchins, fell apart in a matter of hours. How it happened - and what comes next
The prosecution’s case fell apart in a matter of hours on Friday. A witness testified that Kari Morrissey, a special prosecutor leading the state’s case against Baldwin, was directly involved in a decision to keep potential crucial evidence separate from the Rust case. Another special prosecutor suddenly resigned in the middle of the day, and Morrissey called herself to the stand as a witness.
By the day’s end, Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer had found the state withheld information in a manner that was “intentional and deliberate”. Baldwin wept. Hilaria Baldwin, his wife, covered her face and then hugged his attorneys.
It was a shocking end to a high-stakes case that has been closely watched by the film industry and documented by dozens of journalists from outlets around the world.
The swift unravelling surprised even seasoned legal observers. “It was stunning to see the prosecution fall apart so quickly. One of the special prosecutors bolted before the judge could even make her decision,” said Neama Rahmani, a former federal prosecutor and president of Los Angeles-based West Coast Trial Lawyers.
“It’s one of the most botched prosecutions in American history. It should be taught in school as an example of how not to bring a case.”

She admitted to the Brady Violation! My jaw dropped! Her body language was saying she was being dishonest as well. Frequent rapid eye blinking, constant looking down upon recall, she becomes a lobster compared to when she sat down and she had multiple hard swallows before talking a few times too. Perjury is just the cherry on top! Also, I couldn't believe her hubris with thinking just because she took the stand that the trial would continue even though she's a lawyer and not a firearm or ammunition expert "testifying" why the rounds weren't included. The best part was her smugness in believing the trial would continue when she sat back at the prosecutor's table and how her face drained as she realized the judge's ruling. 😂😂

I detest the prosecutor Morisssey. In the last trial she was extremely unethical in giving these speaking objections that tainted the jury with her unnecessary opinions. And the judge was allowing it. This time I’m really glad Alec’s atty nipped that shit in the bud before this trial started. But because this prosecutor has been using this egregious style for a very long time without being checked, she STILL tried to do it after the judge ordered that it wouldn’t happen this time. That’s why the judge snapped at her and said “that’s not an objection!”. She knew Morissey was attempting to try to unethically make the defense atty look bad again. So the judge was right to snap at her because she just keeps pressing over and over again, trying to see what she can get away with, because like every attorney she knows that once words gets said the jury can’t unhear them. Anyway I’m not a fan of Alec. So it says something that I wanted him to win this case. If an attorney can be so unethical in how she behaves in a trial, it’s not at all surprising that she would be unethical while planning it.

Especially the way he was pulling it out from under his jacket. I know he denies it but I think he's wrong. Also you never hire a 20 something purple haired liberal as an armorer. Not surprised this happened. People were shooting live ammo on breaks. She did not clear the gun for him. That's her job. Actors never do things for themselves they hire people.

Even to agree with this dismissal has absolutely nothing to do with the merits of the charges themselves.
Also, it seems as though the vast majority of people commenting on this case don’t even realize that Keri Morrissey is a brand new prosecutor. So the accusations of being super corrupt don’t really fit.

An actor has to follow the safety rules of the industry, and the Laws governing the use of firearms, even prop guns. And Alec Baldwin KNOWS this as an experienced actor, and broke those rules AND laws, on top of which he was the PRODUCER who was responsible for the specialists, like the armorer, who he hired cheaply. A girl with no work experience as an armorer. Prop guns were used to target shoot during breaks, there were MANY complaints about the lack of safety. It was Baldwins responsibility as an actor, and as a Producer. You don't point a gun directly at somebody at that range and fire it, even a prop gun with blanks. Hearing rumors Kari Morrissey will have bar complaints filed against her within the next 24-48 hours. And there is a high probably that she will be disbarred by the New Mexico State Supreme Court, due to breaking fundamental case law over evidence. 2) Sante Fe County deputy Cpl. Hancock will most likely be placed on the "Brady List" for lying on the stand under oath. If it happens, her law career is over in law enforcement. It's all the prosecutions fault! You can't withhold evidence.... she didn't investigate it! She didn't follow through with "her job"!!! PERIOD Our constitution has a series of checks and balances. When we go to court, we have the right to believe that all evidence has been given, as required by law, so you can defend yourself. PERIOD ! This prosecutor did not do that and she has forced the judge to enforce the laws of the constitution of the United States of America. Why is now you may ask? Well; because she the prosecutor did what as our Emily D Baker is famous for saying , give us "facts not fuckery"!!!! And this DA committed Fuckery and it cost her the case. It didn't have to be this way, and it's on her, and the police department as well for not doing their damn jobs. Baldwins case dismissal is correct by the laws of our country… our constitution. You don't commit Fuckery with the constitution and think you have the right because you're the DA to get away with it! It's her fault and it's on her. But the truth here the real truth, there was never going to be a winner in this trial or justice; you can't undo the bullet. It wasn't deserved that two people got hurt and tragically one died. And Alex never meant to hurt anyone. It's a horrific tragic accident. Any accountability to be held was destroyed today by the prosecution. So everybody screaming this is an injustice does no good now. The prosecutor didn't do her job, or the police. It's incredible sloppy police-work. So no Fuckery people, no Fuckery that's the rules we play with, set by the constitution. We all need this protection. You may not like Alex Baldwin getting off on a technicality, but it's a big one. 2. the details of a deal (for example between a prosecutor and an informant or a witness),
    3. physical evidence that questions a defendant’s guilt,
    4. information that could be used to cast doubt on a witness’s truthfulness,
    5. information that discredits a victim’s story
    6. evidence of police misconduct, and
    7. proof that someone else committed the crime charged.

I have said since the beginning, Seth Kenny is sus AF, the crime scene tech and Handcock both sus, and the State prosecutor is sus in Hannah's case, and this case!! I think the State prosecutor did hate Alec, and she was willing to do anything to get this win against him! I don't particularly like him, but this decision was the right one! But Lewis's huge belly laugh when Spiro asked if she called him a CSer was awesome! Great job guys!!

Good! Glad it was dismissed with prejudice. Ridiculous to charge him in the first place. The person in charge of armor is responsible, not the actors.

If you have to aim a real gun at a human being for a stupid movie, then yes, you double and triple check the gun. There are safety protocols for actors that he did not follow. He was also a Producer, a veteran actor, etc. He knows better. People walked off the set earlier in the day due to dangerous working conditions. Your statement is ridiculous.

Actors routinely do not check guns. This is common practice on films. Where he has some responsibility is as producer, for hiring an armorer who was inexperienced. But the next question is, why did the supplier give the film production live rounds?!

At 24:00 minutes, she admitted to withholding information from the defense in the Gutierrez trial as well. This woman doesn't get to decide what the defense is, or isn't, interested in. She had a duty to provide those reports to the Gutierrez defense team as well. She is admitting to having withheld information from the defense in that trial. Again, she can't decide what is or isn't of interest to the defense.

If the prosecutor felt the evidence she hid was the best evidence, it literally would have been entered into the case evidence to present to a jury to obtain a conviction. She was actuallu arguing that we were supposed to believe she turned over everything to the defense except the state's best evidence. She's a nut and is incompetent.

Prosecutor is too big for her britches. She’s acted the entire time like she owned the courtroom, that she was the center ”actor” in this stage play that she thought she’d get a standing ovation for at the end. Wow, how her arrogance and pride took her straight down.
