As a Computational Fluid Dynamics engineer, I will tell you no matter where designers & engineers work, when you plug in the same factors & criteria, you get the same design out of softwares - its math and engineering, nothing to do with "copy cat".
It is everything to do with copycat design. There are several different cars on the market with marginally or barely any difference of coefficient of drag, and they all look very different visually. I don't know if it's a Chinese design culture thing, but if I had a car company who were producing copycat designs I'd fire the designers. They are ripping off existing designs to save money.
All designs will ultimately converge to a single outcome due to the optimization via analytical/computational modelings (FEA/CFD) substantiated by prototype testing.
If they can keep similar prices in Germany I am buyin one. I bought my first Xiaomi phone 3 yeara ago and its still going strong. Its high quality product.
Well you have no idea about ev pries here in Germany. Here is an example: Ora funky cat is sold in Germany. Its base model costs 26990 Euro and the same car sells in China for about 13600 Euro.
If you want to produce an electric car in China, you only need to build a factory at the mouth of the Yangtze River. They can buy all the accessories needed for electric cars nearby.
China granted Tesla the right to set up a wholly owned factory in China and granted it preferential land and loan conditions, but the requirement was that almost 100% of the components must be produced in China, thus boosting China's electric vehicle industry.
China is way ahead of the US in EV market. Over 100 manufacturers to some degree, which harkens back to when the majority of auto manufacturers were based in Indiana. Good review.
I'm on the comfort and connectivity team ❤. I drive because I need to and not because I like it. After work I want to get into a car with pleasant temperature (I live in Brazil, it's hot here), with comfortable seats and a good sounds system to listen my fav playlist while I move at 10 km/h in traffic jam. The SU7 says to me: girl you can have much more than that 😂 It would be my dream car if it were a compact hatchback 😊
I think the vast majority of people who drive are just like you! They care about comfort, connectivity, and anything else that will make their commute safer and more pleasant. PS. Thanks for being one of our first members! We genuinely appreciate the support!
Good thinking about the compact hatchback, I also think that a lack of a modern, not too expensive and reliable EV hatchback is a what most of the new EV car buyers want.
Alot of people compare this to Apple Car's scenario, and rightfully so. There are multiple reasons why Xiaomi was able to make a car, in a shorter time, lower R&D cost than Apple did (and ultimately failed/given up). Making EV's is in simple terms, like a Lego car. You pick what batteries you want, what autopilot system you'd like (Horizon Robotics? or Huawei? or others?), you pick what electric motors you want, or even licence existing platforms (if you didn't want to make one yourself). and Wallah, you've got an EV, with your design and your badge. Xiaomi being in China was able to hand pick these items like walking into a supermarket. Any battery size, and electric motors, and materials and software packages. Apple on the other hand couldn't. There was no supply chain, there were no options. The EV suppliers for the better part of last 10 years, and even today, is miniscule. Parts are on shortage, technology is old, then add on there US sanctions and requirements for Federal Tax Credit (including Union bullsh1t, and "Made in USA" requirements), then you've got a super restrictive R&D environment, and ultimately, Apple gave up on it. Elon said himself, the Cybertruck delays was heavily due to lack of suppliers and technology available to them. Supplier's didn't want to invest in R&D to make suitable offerings for the Cybertruck. So Tesla has to navigate this themselves, and takes hell of a lot longer than off the shelf industry supply chain. This is the perfect example of "How protectionist taxes, tariffs and trade barriers, will end up being the demise of your industry" The more you try and protect an industry from natural selection, the more you pave the way for it to fall.
I live in China for 14 years... Still driving my lil Mazda 2 but my next car will be a Chinese EV, maybe this one? Have a Xiaomi phone, laptop etc etc. 😎

And what is the one country whose CMVSS safety standards essentially mirror the US standards? Canada of course. The upshot to this is that only cars designed to sell in the US market will end up selling in Canada. No car company is going to all the expense of making their car meet these regulation just to sell in Canada alone. Mexico is a whole different story, since they use NCAP standards so a car designed to sell in China or Europe can be modified to meet Mexican standards fairly easily. But now that the US have quadrupled its tariffs on Chinese cars all the way to 100%, Xiaomi or any other Chinese EV maker will be steering clear of the US market, and by extension, the Canadian market as well.

This is the perfect example of "How protectionist taxes, tariffs and trade barriers, will end up being the demise of your industry"
The more you try and protect an industry from natural selection, the more you pave the way for it to fall.
Beautifully explained
Even Tesla goes to China to pick up its batteries from BYD. China is simply a decade ahead of the rest of the world.

The upshot to this is that only cars designed to sell in the US market will end up selling in Canada. No car company is going to all the expense of making their car meet these regulation just to sell in Canada alone. For a first car, this is extremely well done...its has so many options wow
China is democratizing quality car ownership for the common man!!🙄😳
Gotta say, as a (EU) Tesla fanboy, this thing looks amazing! Kudos to Xiaomi and RIP to legacy automotive...it's no longer about the car you sell once, it's about the tech, ecosystem, subscriptions etc.
Absolutely great video man. Pretty cool car!! I really wish these would come too America/Canada. I know BYD is planning to come to Canada next year.
Great looking car. Would love to see how it compares to popular brands beyond specs on paper.
So, not only fans?
I'm not that desperate...yet.
I too was disappointed.
@@WheelsboyDamn we’re thirsty…😂
Well this escalated quickly 😂
Never buy a car in its first year of production.
FYI : "Xiao Mi" means "small rice" or "little rice".
Yes if you translate word for word but putting the 2 words together it is actually Millet, the Chinese calls it "little rice"
love the accessories you can add to the screen and the red button on the steering wheel.
This car is pretty controversial in China since the majority bunch of buyers are young people, they can't handle the big horse power well hence caused a lot of deadly accident and the rate has beyond the average level a lot.
With the price-tag the Porsche asked for their cars especially Taycan, they could at least gives this level of in-car infotainment system like in SU7.
I NEED those refrigerators!! 😍😍😍
The steering wheel (including the mode selector), seats and stalks all look pretty familiar for Taycan Owners. That being said, it looks like a compelling car for the price of the options on a reasonably well equipped Taycan.
That is until you drive it and you've driven a Taycan, and realize comparing it to the Taycan is dumb. Taycan is a MUCH better car in every way. A much, much, much better car. Words can't express how much. SU7 looks nice, but its qualities are surface deep, they don't have the know-how to compete with cars like Porsche on chassis development, handling, involvement, refinement, etc.
Steering wheel is for sure similar, probably why I like it so much.
@@derbigpr500 You just sound like a porch fan boy expressing your preconceived ideas, not actual hands on experience.
@ensteffo I find it hilarious how this car is absolutely dog shit in build quality compared to porsche and somehow has way more issues at launch than porsche ever did especially safety issues. Yet people like you are so easily influenced 😂 You seriously believe it's build quality is better LOL
I am big cars fan, watch reviews A LOT and I must say your videos provide the best information a and give the best idea about the car. Great job!
