Luke I also truck camp now because I’ve gone through chemo for a year and a total life changer. Anyways I’ve always had stihl chainsaws. I’m 70 and appreciate good equipment. I have a battery powered 12 inch sthil. Mine came with two batteries. A battery will last the weekend for firewood. It fairly quiet. It is a little more money but totally worth it. I’ve had others but they don’t compare at all. Nobody fixes them or fresh batteries are hard to find. I even dropped it in a lake on a canoe trip in 8 feet of water. It still works great. Love all your videos. I’m not able to get out now because of the cancer but I am planning to get out on a trip in September. Thanx man. Greetings from Ontario Canada

We have very little toilet paper, no lumber at the lumber yards, and red meat, like ground beef, is literally non existent. Densely populated towns and big cities are doing much better. A 4 hour drive for toilet paper is becoming a real pain. Our small country store used to have all we ever needed.

I have a Black+Decker 40 volt bat chainsaw. The bats are interchangeable with my weed whacker, hedge trimmer, and yes, even a 16 inch lawn mower. The saw worked well for cutting down branches of a tree I had taken down, but not cleaned up and hauled away. Mine is a 12 inch bar, and did quick work of cutting 5 and 6 inch branches of the dead tree. I used it on about a 4 inch live elm, and in no time dulled the chain. So, there are limits to what it will do, but I think in your case, overlanding, it would be quite the addition. Suggest 2 batteries just in case. The slow charger takes quite a while and is what comes with the saw. I got a quick charger included with the lawn mower, and it will charge a bat in about an hour or just under.
I like your vids. You are obviously having fun, and enjoy what you do. Thanks for your efforts. I realize there is a LOT involved in the post-production, and it is appreciated. Keep breathin', man.

I got that fridge last summer for my cross country trek after the previous summer of using a cooler and replacing ice every 2 days. Got really old, not to mention traveling alone and hard to stay situationally aware at stops when filling a cooler! Don't miss that messy ice! Keep it plugged in my car's outlet up front with a while towel over the top. I crossed a lot of wide open 100+degree desert/prairie. I use a Kodiak by Inergy for all my camp power needs and overnite for the fridge. But many times, the fridge never cut on after dark in a cool spot. The towel or even a fleece really helped retain cold. It was highly recommended by many van campers!

Looks like a great time out. A DIY self hack for the screen on the back of the truck ( or windows ) is to measure and cut the screen to shape a few inches larger than needed. Then hot glue some magnets at the corners and any other desired support points. Then all you need to do is place the magnets on the metal body of the truck (or window frame ) . For areas where there may not be any metal such as a fiberglass camper shell you can 3M sticky tape some round metal discs (small from Home Depot, Hobby Lobby, Michaels) at the needed points. It works pretty well. Thanks for another great video. We don’t get Yuengling in Arizona but I have had it many times (Wife is from Ohio). Love it.

      what the? lol!
Forgive me, that's quite deep. Maybe only the wise think the wise are wise? Let's break this down...
If you're a fool then only other fools can think you're wise. If you're wise then fools and the wise can think you're wise. However, a wise person can't think a fool is wise by these rules. But fools can think whatever they want. So, what if a fool thinks someone wise is a fool?
Then they make statements like that.
Across the board, country by country, enemies and allies, the statistics are real. Wear a mask when you can, please.

Hey Luke great vid! I have the same dometic cfx28 runs off a jackery 500. I've had both about six months so far. Jackery is awesome for all kinds of things. I've run the fridge for 68 hrs straight from 100% to zero. Mine draws 4 watts just setting 44watts when compressor kicks on. Noticed when the sun shines on it, causes the compressor to kick on more often which makes sense, but draws more power. Took off the handles then wrapped reflectix and replaced the handles. Cut out areas on the reflectix for the compressor vents. And fashioned a lid from reflectix as well fits like a lid on a shoe box, an inexpensive solution compared to the price for a cover on dometics website. significantly reduced the sun impacted power draw, when left in the vehicle or on the tailgate, every little bit helps. I initially set the temp at 37 but noticed it can drop as low as 32 which is too cold and a waste of power. I help the power/compressor use by having items frozen (meat, water bottles, etc) for longer trips/outings, drops to temp faster with less draw on power. 39 seems to be the sweet spot will get up to 41-43 before compressor kicks in. Looking forward to your review on it. Reflectix is great on your vehicles windows when car camping too, cut to fit and friction forming to the inside of the windows.

Battery chainsaw is the go, lots of very hard wood here in Australia. I’ve got the Stihl MSA 220 with 2 batteries and the middle or the range charger. I went with a 14” bar so I could use a thicker duty chain 3/8th”. It is a fair investment yes, but you get what you pay for. One battery will cut as much wood as a full petrol tank load on a fuel driven machine. Easily enough for a night camping. I tend to go for longer periods, hence the second battery. If you were wanting a more integrated system check out Milwaukee, they have a chainsaw and the fan will blow a dog off it’s chain, good for hot nights. Obviously Milwaukee has many handy tools for use when overlanding. One integrated battery system has its advantages, however, the Stihl chainsaw is really impressive. Hope this helps, kind regards, Luke

We have a battery powered chain saw and it is wonderful. I typically run through 3 batteries per backyard clearing quest but it is invaluable.

I purchased a Stihl MSA120 battery chainsaw in 2019. It is a little power house. It came with a battery and charger. I believe it was stated it could make 100 cuts on a single charge but that would depend upon cutting softwood or hardwoods. I love mine and it is always in my truck when camping. I paid something like $299.00 for it with a 12" bar and I believe at the time I was told it also came with a 10" bar also.

I have the 20V Dewalt and it works great. You will probably want to go with whatever brand you already have batteries for. But again they work great and that would be a perfect application for it.

I have the Ryobi 40V 14" brushless chainsaw and have upgraded to an Oregon bar and chain. It works great and is so quiet. Goes well with my other 40V yard tools because they all use the same batteries.

I don't mind channels that seek sponsors because you want the channel to thrive and the channel to make money toward costs. The ads are fine, a brief review of items are fine or links to good products are fantastic.

Concerning chainsaws, you should look into the Dewalt 20v chainsaw. It works great for smaller cuts like you would be needing. It has a 12" blade and Dewalt 20v system also has lots of other tools that use the same batteries. They have a fan that would work great in your truck camper or a tent. They also have LED lights that run off the same 20v batteries.

New viewer to your channel, but I watched this video, I saw you were talking about the battery chainsaw. I live in the northern Shenandoah Valley in Va. Last fall my 78 yr old father wanted a chainsaw and was looking at battery powered ones. We tested a stihl, which has always been the brand we've bought in the past. but it was pricey. my father literally has one tree in his yard. I on the other hand at the time lived a mile down a dirt road with no maintenance. We also looked at the harbor freight Lynxx 14 inch chainsaw. about half the price with the coupon. I talked my father into saving some money on something he'd use once a year. He bought the Lynxx. My niece and nephew were visiting and i thought it was a good time to teach them about using a chainsaw so i grabbed my fathers battery one so it was quiet enough to talk over. we cut up two locust trees on a battery. So since i live in an area where in the winters you keep a chainsaw in your truck. I went and bought another Lynxx and the money i saved over stihl I bought 2 extra batteries, so now i have more cut time than the stihl for the same price, no having to worry about whather or not it will start, or remembering the gas, having the mix yadda yadda, its realitively quiet.( as quiet as i think a chainsaw should be. It handles well enough that i dont worry about my teenage niece and nephew using it. in general i'm surprised at how happy i am with it. and it takes the same battery as the weedwhacker, so i take both with me on excursions in case the campsite is a bit overgrown( I mainly camp at road race tracks). Great channel! I plan on binge watching more of your overland truck videos, unfortunately health issues stomp my from hiking and doing that kind of camping anymore.

I've had a 40v Ryobi with 14in bar for 2 years. It has been great. I've been impressed with what it can cut. I also have the weed trimmer and leaf blower that use the same batteries. I have had one battery go bad but otherwise they all work great.

About 5 years ago, my uncles and I went backpacking in Red River Gorge KY, after a pretty rough 15 mile hike in, we made camp and were serenaded by a whipoorwhil ALL night. Worst night of sleep ever. Hearing that whipoorwhil in your video brought back the memories.

Love the video Luke I am your brother IRAs friend from Lowe's me and my wife has spent some time only roseborough road camping and hiking there is a real funny story would love to tell you sometime about our four-wheeling adventure there at the one-lane bridge.. I will give you a little history that area and the in the 19 40s it was called Chicken Town. And the old train that ran through the Blue Ridge also went into Chicken that was a little man-made village that raise chickens and the train would take them back into wilkesboro to Holly farms. I believe it was 1941 when the area received lots of rain the towns of wilkesboro and North wilkesboro flooded and Chicken Town received the worst of the flood and the town and village was destroyed. Eventually on your journey you will come to a four-way intersection if you turn left you will find an old general store and the last time I was in there they had pictures on the wall of water all the way up to the train trussell and more pictures of the flood. The all abandoned house in your video I have camped below it at the river and the last time we were there the little dam was still together and that's where we would take a bath and swim. Again I know this area pretty well have been into it many times. That is one of my most favorite places to go camping and hiking on the parkway

I know I’m late on this one, but after a very recent deep dive researching all the available models...the Dewalt model currently for sale at HD came out on top for me. I needed a top handle light weight version as an alternative to my Stihl. I’ve cut about a qtr. cord of 2-6 inch wood and am impressed. It may use the same battery as your compressor. Good luck. Great videos.
