Luke have you all ever did a groups hike?
I hunt off Long Bottom Rd all of the time, but live almost 2 hours from there. It makes it harder and harder to make It up there since there are so many brain dead people that hunt "upair".. I swear man.. Great video Luke. May the 4th be wif you 🤣

Linnie Caudill was away in Virginia working, according to a family history account. But Caudill’s young wife of six months and his mother and brother were at home and perished.Alice and Linnie Famon Caudill, who went by Famon, had been married only six months when she died.. Only the bodies of his wife and brother were found Alice and her mother, Wadie Adams, and one of his younger brothers, Cornelius Caudill, 9, had perished in the flood.
All three were in Famon and Alice Caudill’s cabin when it was swept away by a landslide. It was about a mile downstream from the cabin of his parents, Martin and Janie Blevins Caudill, which still stands at the head of Basin Cove over 1,000 feet below Wildcat Rock near the Bluffs Lodge on the Parkway..Following a second big flood in 1940, the Army Corps of Engineers built a dam and reservoir in 1962 west of Wilkesboro to catch and hold floodwaters and minimize flooding in the upper Yadkin Valley

Hey Guys! I always would take a wash cloth, pour isopropyl alcohol on it so its damp not soaking, and put that in a glad bag..used to do this when I was in USMC and it cools you down immediately and disinfects you. Its like a sponge bath in a hospital...

Funny, I don't like the word "wipes" either. Thought I was the only one. They have chemicals and who knows what. Might be a good idea to cultivate a preference for cotton wash cloths.

Though I do like the gear reviews, this one had none of that and was enjoyable just for the fact that we got to follow along on an adventure in what looks to me to be a great area for hiking and camping. Susie picked a very good route full of interesting features and history it makes you wonder how people survived, they really were worthy of the name pioneer. A nice campsite selection so pleased it was so peaceful there's nothing like falling asleep to the sound of a rippling stream as always thank you for sharing your time on the trail.
I have a spider story for you, Luke. While camping in the AZ desert near Gila Bend with several EOD guys, I woke one morning to this strange feeling on my chest. I opened my eyes to see a huge tarantula traversing from left to right. That damn thing was bigger than my fist! I watched it until it disappeared into a hole at the base of a monstrous Saguaro cactus. My EOD tent mate told me it was a good thing I did not try to brush it off of me; it would have triggered it to bite with its large fangs.
You should do more trips with Susie. You are a lucky man and she is a awesome woman. I wish you two all the lucky and happiness

Great trail. Ten mile hiking round trip. Susie chose well for your wonderful adventure. The low speed limit is right for the blue ridge parkway. Your area is beautiful so enjoy the scenery. You two together are awesome.....The water-shoes are a brilliant idea - will have to remember that one (light-weight and multi-purpose around camp)...Here's the other thing about that - my wife is also concerned about falling in the streams (noone wants to), but she is the first person to take off her shoes and go in the water - stream, lake, pond, creek - whatever - whereever there's water. It is a fascinating journey through that former domicile, actually not that long ago, of people who could be your neighbors. Early-season camping - quiet, peaceful - tranquil.

If that is federal land , it would be ilegal to fly a drone, unless you get a permit
Right on the mark about the microburst That area got hit hard a couple of yrs ago. That’s a pretty popular campground. You ate lunch about 30 yds from the gravesite of the young girl who lost her life during the flood.

Cracking hike, and Susie always asses the risk, it’s better to be risk adverse and safe than encounter a mishap as it would spoil the hike

I have been to Dalton Park probably 1000 time in my life but, not camping. just riding the Blue Ridge. Gosh, have I ever been missing out, but my Wife will not camp. Thanks for taking me on the trip, Brother I immensely enjoyed it...However I will be checking it out in Oct-Nov. Gotta love winter camping. ATB Von

We haven't been very active doing hikes you know life's circumstances, but we are working on to go back and start doing some hikes again by next year.

That's a nice hike been a few times myself. Glad to see ya pouring water on that fire. Just the other day in Linville gorge was on fire because of a camper not making sure there fire was out.
I saw the headline concerning the Linville fire; ensuring that the fire is out is a must!

Get yourselves some good sets of Lowa Renegade GTX hiking boots. As long as it doesn't go over the top of the boot, you can step in the water and your feet will remain bone dry. I've worn them for years and their build quality has always been excellent. Never had them leak, ever, and I've been through 3 or 4 pairs over the last 20 years or so. Once slipped and stepped in a creek, totally submerging the boot. Top of my sock and very topmost area of the boot's padding got wet, but my feet were bone dry.
Nice adventure to watch. Thanks for the great two pole tarp set up on one of your other videos I saw on UA-cam. I can’t find it again to comment on that one so I’m mentioning it here. My husband an I just started car camping again. We needed a easy tarp set up for the rain. We used a rectangle tarp 9x12. with 8 foot adjustable poles in the front. It works great. We are seniors so we need easy set ups for camping. Thanks again

Luke, oh, to buy gas three years ago. You feel me? A dam, out in the middle of the woods,made in that style, probably used to be the power source for a mill of some kind. Probably for wood, but that power could have been used in many ways (we use it now to make electrical power, for example) Maybe a complex of them. I also saw rhododendrons in that shot. That's not a primordial forest. It's been cleared and regrown at least once at some point, what you see and enjoy in this video only exists because that mill went out of business. That last probably happened antebellum. But that's just an educated guess. Our Mother is stronger than we think. That said I'm glad that we don't do it that way anymore.

7,000 acres eh? Come to Canada and venture in to Algonquin park in central Ontario. It’s only 1,891,209 acres (Almost 3,000 sq miles). Lots of room to roam.

If Algonquin is too small, you could come to Yellowstone (2.2M acres) or one of the eight parks in the U.S. that are bigger than that. They stop short of Wood Buffalo though. Then again, it and Denali are pretty far up for most people to even WANT to go. :)

I really enjoyed that. I, especially, liked the adventure of discovery. And, I learn something every video, again! This time is no different. The planning/packing video was very good, as well. I do get jealous of the fact you get to select from a gear room of choices.
Beautiful trail, similar to the many with have here in Ontario as well as all of Canada in general , looked like an awesome adventure for you both, I love hiking and camping in the wilderness on Crown land it is free to residents in Ontario., but it is hard to find friends who enjoy it as much as me Roughing it that is., If it was hot out here, it would be humid as well, I would have cooled off in the stream along the way, I don't mind getting dirty . Awesome to see the remnants of the old ruins . love the cabin and history of the area . great video folks Ontario Canada

You really have the skills and patience for doing nice videos, thank you. Personally, I usually hike near lakes and rivers and the water in Lapland is so pure that you can drink straight from the lake. Washing the face or going swimming is common, no worries. It is also very quite out there, just as you did have in this video. Sometimes a week can pass without meeting any people unless you go to some popular trail. But there are innumerable trails available in the wilderness and you can design your own. And, you never need any permits here.

In the Army and after always had both, well the wipes when they were finally invented. The wash cloth was great for most of the body as were the wipes. But the wipes win primarily because of the specific use for "Monkey Butt", as well as their general purpose. Unscented of course. The OD dish sized towel was a must. Keep up the good work, nice to see a young married couple actually enjoying themselves together sharing a common interest.

I like the wash cloth.,I prowled all over the desert between Ft.Bliss and White Sands and I always had my wash cloth and small green towel no matter how hot it got I kept my little green towel around my neck if I had plenty of water I could soak the towel and keep it around my neck the wet towel kept the sun off your neck and it kept you cool also.
You need to try camping/hiking in Michigan. The upper peninsula is awesome!!

So we did the Rails to Trails on White Mt. outside of Abington, VA...there was this Giant boulder about 5 feet above a creek...perfect camera shot up the creek w the Mountain Laurel on both sides...i get a couple of shots then inch out to get a “better” shot...you guessed it....slipped and went ass over teakettle into the creek! Camera busted...didn’t get any more pics the rest of the trip🙁
I lived in hendersonville and built the forestry department with Cooper contruction near sliding rock and looking glass falls NC. Love every bit of those mountains!

That was a nice trip you planned Susie. You guys are so good together I will have to agree with Luke this time as far as towels instead of wipes. Even hand sanitizers aren’t my first pick but are useful til you can get soap and water. Just my preference. Thanks for sharing.
