Since the pandemic it always surprises me how many times I run into people out in the middle of nowhere. More people are boon-docking than ever. Many have no idea what their doing but I applaud the effort. Most of the time people are friendly and want to talk but every now and then you run into those persons that make me glad I can carry.

You are far too humble of a person. You practically saved those people's lives...! What a great story and please include it in a video because it could possibly help others avoid a tragic outcome. Thank goodness you were there. You're a compassionate human being, we need more people like you in this world. Stay safe my man 😊🍻✌️

Thank you so much for your kind words! I truly value safety and helping others. Speaking of being prepared, have you heard about the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series? It's a reliable power source for outdoor adventures and even home backup power. With its massive capacity, powerful output, and fast recharging, it can definitely come in handy during emergencies. Stay safe and always be prepared! ️

My Dad was a product of the Great Depression and simple food product stuck with him his entire life. Bread, butter and “baked beans” 😏 ... usually he would cook the beans and eat them between two slices of white bread ... yummy and to this day I do the same. Sort of like comfort food. Simple and easy to carry and to make, especially when camping. Enjoy your videos ✔️

My dog, Lucy, taught me how to run through the woods like Daniel Day Lewis in the opening shots of Last of the Mohicans. Love that movie plus Broken Arrow, too. It took all summer, but we did it. Ran the trail beginning to end, on a familiar trail that we made. Thanks for another great video.

I also grew up very poor and in a very primitive home. It was a 1917 house, the walls weren't made of drywall but were plaster covering wooden slats, the fuses for the main power were the glass screw in kind. The wiring was solid copper wire with a fiberglass sheath held in place by porcelain mounts. No heating and air either. I can remember my dad using the kitchen stove, turning it on high, and leaving it's door open to heat the house. So I feel you 👍

Luke, alcohol does not thin dilute your blood, but it does "thin" it, making it less sticky and less likely to clott. The reasons it lowers your core temperature are that it dialates your capillaries and depresses your shivering mechanism. Your skin feels warm due to having more blood on the surface, and yet this pulls heat out of body much faster, lowering core temperature and increasing the chance of hypothermia. Love your videos!

Try joining some local camping or hiking groups, check facebook, go to your local REI, etc, you might be able to find some folks willing to part with some older but still good gear for super cheap, or maybe for free. Don't let anything stop you from getting out if that's what you need.

You can also set aside a little bit each paycheque for gear, buying each piece a little bit at a time. It’s what I am doing since I don’t have a lot of money myself. We have a bit of gear that my roommate gave me but a lot of it has to be replaced since it’s old and worn out after years of use.
So I started budgeting and setting aside $5.00 or $10.00 from each paycheque in a camping fund so I can get new gear, mostly from Amazon since their prices are reasonable.
Luke’s gear reviews are great since he helps in what gear is ok and what gear to stay the heck away from….

Luke, it sounds like you grew up in my house. I grew up in a three-room house one wood stove in the middle to heat the whole thing. One room was a combined living eating kitchen, one room was the family bedroom, one room was the family room. No running water, no electricity, and definitely no indoor plumbing. I take that back we did have running water, it came from a 600 gallon tank that was outside of our house by the kitchen sink. In the winter time we kept our water in milk cans inside the house so that they didn't freeze, but it sure did get cold.
What was really fun, was before we moved into the house we lived in an old surplus Army tent for a year when I was six.
You know I never felt poor cause we had all of nature to play in. We had chickens, usually we and a couple of neighbor families would go together every year and get a hog or a cow to raise, sometimes both, and that was our meat, and we had the farm vegetable plot for our veggies which we canned.
Life was good though, wasn't it?
There are a lot of times I miss it.

Your childhood memories bring back memories of my own, I had a very similar childhood as well. My siblings and I basically ran wild through the land around our place, as long as we told our parents where we would be and so on.
Even though I have been living in the city for over 20 years now, I long to go back to those times….
Part of the reason why I plan on getting out of the city for good and moving back home, getting a place close to my parents place so I can be handy in case something happens.

I have a F150 crew cab and the bed is only 5 1/2' long. I'm 6 ft. and it is cramped trying to sleep in it. It is more comfortable sleeping in the back seat of the pickup, plus it is padded. The biggest problem is carbon monoxide. If I lower the window for air it becomes freezing cold inside. The best way for me is to use a ceramic heater and run a Honda generator outside. They are very quiet. The bed camper is used for storage for all of my camping stuff and firewood.

Driving in the mountains in ice conditions is a challenge. If you do it regularly, I would strongly suggest a set of lugged tire chains for all four wheels. You have to drive slowly with the chains on but on ice you want to make no sudden moves. Basically, you crawl. We used to go off road in winter deer hunting in NY's Adirondack mountains. It was wet, muddy, and cold. Mud holes turned into blocks of ice. We would drive thru a foot of snow. It was fairly flat with a few steep hills and there were hills of bare granite rock to cross. We would go thru a mud hole with water and a six inch thick block of ice. The front tires would break thru the ice which would go up in the air with the chains climbing up on the block and then all come crashing down. Because of differentials and drive shafts, chains on all fours in 4WD is not generally recommended. If you drive slowly and the wheels can slip, it is ok. Back in the woods, we didn't have ditches to contend with. Going over the bare rock however, we had a 20 foot drop off if the truck slid sideways off the trail.

BAKED BEANS SUSTAIN. Never mind the tasteless jokes: today's best canned baked beans are more digestible. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES. I was a toddler in the late 1940s and early 1950's. We lived in a family-owned rent house where the major source of heat was the kitchen coal range. We had an indoor water pump by the sink. Insulation in the walls was unknown in those days. We had the right bedding (and jammies and long winter underwear) to be comfortable. Chamber pots: only beloved in contrast to a trek to the outhouse over the snow encrusted bumper of my Dad's car, since the facility was attached to the garage.

Luke👍👍 Nice outing, cold outside, warm inside. Savotta does make nice products that work as intended, quite expensive and I don't think anybody carries the brand in the states anymore. So having them shipped adds plenty to the costs but buy once, cry once. Nothing wrong with a couple shots of your favorite spirit whilst out camping. Burger and beans..😋 Enjoy!

Hey Luke, LOVIN the mini concept. I haul logs on slippery winter mountain roads in British Columbia Canada. Word of advice, get a set of good tire chains that fit your tires and keep them with you. One use and they have paid for themselves. Cheap insurance. Real tire chains not those useless cable things. I used to do a bit of truck camping in my day as well and always enjoyed it. I use a Canadian Military sleep system for my comfy warm sleep. Cheers Luke

You've been at that campsite before. There's baked beans at Dollar Tree and I can't remember the name that are delicious, with brown sugar and whiskey. The Buddy heater, do you need fresh air to run. Great short. I like your setup in the back, with the cot and table. We grew up poor, too, and took baths in a long galvanised tub eet on 2 kitchen chairs in the kitchen. My gran and pa lived nearby and had a beautiful home, but for a couple years my mom struggled raising us 3 girls, outside toilet etc. And I appreciate hot water coming out of the spigot whenever I turn it on, with heat, lights etc. Our house in the 60s was nice, but no insulation, single pane windows, no bathroom, I'm not sure how it was heated, a furnace in the floor maybe. Makes you appreciate little things. I still have my 60s CRT tube e plastic white TV to watch OTA stations for free.

I bought a longer hose so I could do that. It would be bad news if that tank vented inside with that flame. Just looking out for you, brother! I have plenty of tips for you regarding truck camping. Two things to remember when using a gas heater
    1. Gas makes water vapour ie condensation.
    2. Gas produces carbon monoxide so always have ventilation, I know cars are not air tight but there's not enough air flow to be safe.

Looked like a good trip . Great scenery , great food , a drink by the fire remembering the past and a warm bunk. I just broke down and bought a heater like that . Need to get a supply hose like that . Just refilled my small bottles the other day . Have a great evening

I always come to your vids when I am so full of the BS in the media. I remember my grandparent's lv room and kitchen being heated with kerosene and the bed rooms were freezing. I remember being covered with so many quilts, not blankets, quilts that we could not move in the bed. Oh how I long for those days! You have brought a rush of memories back with a good touch of "common sense". You must, like I, be married to a women that is in line for "sainthood". Thanks for taking me back and losing this sight of the BS some people call "reality", :).

Have Last of the Mohicans on VHS. I used to camp in back of truck with 2 dogs for heat. At least every 15 minutes, one of them got up, spun around and flopped back down. Nesting.

Good burger, BBQ beans, a little whiskey, good story at a campfire, what’s not to like! Loved the shorter format. I just don’t always have time to sit down to the longer ones, as much as I’d like to! Nice work.

I still live thru winter with barely heat and summer with no ac. We have been spoiled, and being animals we shouldn't spoil ourselves to the point if we are ever stuck outside we'd freeze!😳😂😎ty enjoy

Great video, reminds us we can get out and have an adventure without have to be a big production. Your youth reminds me of mine, growing up in an old un insulated house with only a gas stove in the family room, and frost on the walls in the bedroom. My mother would heat bricks in the oven , wrap them in old newspaper and put them in the foot of our beds before we went to sleep, and this was in the late 1960's. You don't get spoiled growing up poor. It has helped me through some hard times since.

    Evening, Brother Luke...
I especially enjoy your adventures these days as I'm tucked in my warm, cozy bed with a bag of my favourite trail mix nearby.
    Thanks, Buddy.
