Unless I missed it somewhere, I would like to see you actually standing in the shower area, clothes on of course, to get an idea of roominess. Also, like your consultant business model. I'll be the first to admit that it's tight but having the shower there was just huge for me. Jarrod did the heated floor work out well to help keep you warm up in the cold in Banff , Canada & did the shower work well & give you a decent shower ? Will the gray tank be heated so it won't freeze up in the winter time cold ?
I want to design and build inside my own van some day. I don't yet have one but I'm looking at the Nissan NV because it might be cheaper. What you did here looks really difficult to do, and particularly the wiring and plumbing. What's your advice for someone with no electric wiring or carpentry skills but wants try building solo?
Best and most informative VL build I've seen on UA-cam! I'm in the planning stage, buying a Dodge Ram high-top in a month (in Dallas) and giving myself 4-5 weeks of build, full time with a some help too. My only area where I'm a little unsure is the electric/plumbing system, yours looks fantastic! I'm loosely planning driving up through Colorado to Yellowstone, Redwood Forest, Santa Barbara and then back to Dallas for a week or two or refit for things that aren't quite working then I'm going to trek down to Central America for a couple of years, maybe stay.. Just me and the best friend, Blue. Well done and thank you so much.
Our work has one of these, a bit older so no key fob. I had to drive it with a really heavy load down to Texas and back. It sucked. But at the same time, the experience was worth it. It was way better than driving a big box truck. Except, the wind seemed to affect it more. Sure, it was aerodynamic, while driving straight. But the wind sends that thing all over the roads way more than a box truck, which I've driven a few of those long distances too. But to Texas and back, with a dangerously heavy load packed into this Sprinter, the largest size there was available. I think it's a 2015 model.
Aww, you were in Portland!! I’m in Portland!! I thought I loved your ceilings but now that I know you have heated floors??? I didn’t even know that was possible inside of the van. So awesome! Great build!
Very nice looking van build. I wanted to keep my interior white also but didn't know how that would look. You made it look really awesome. Thanks for the video.
I subbed just for the concept of the layout itself. Impressive project brother. Not a huge fan of the shower conversion that's in place here, but it works as it should and thats all that matters! I wanna see someone convert something crazy like a redwood tree into a small house. lol Feel like taking that one on?
Awesome van project! Not sure how I got on to these videos but the build-off ones seem quite interesting to watch, the whole technical aspect and what not. Good luck with it, hope you'll have many miles of joy with it!
Judging by the tighness of the corners on the coil grid layout, the secret is to use copper tubing with an insulator under it rather than PEX. The secret to prevent "blow ups" as people are saying is to run a zero pressure system (cavitation at the pump ?) or install a Watt pressure relief valve. BTW, it is illegal in many building codes to recirculate or cross contaminate heating water with potable water due to Legionaire's disease. If you'll be operating the van in subzero temps and parking it, you'll need to use RV antifreeze as the circulating liquid.
@@JarrodTocci Well, PEX can't turn sharp like that unless there are elbows at each corner and I wouldn't want all those connections under my floor - one is bound to leak. So if it is PEX, I'm not impressed.
Props on the build. My only concern is the choice of insulation. I think you'll find that after 10k miles all the insulation will be at the bottom of their pockets from all the road bumps and vibration. That's why I advise spray foam. Nothing else gives you the same r value and noise dampening in a single product. There are other good products as well but you need to mix and match in order to make it work. The radiant heat though is epic!
Thank you. Look more into spray foam and rodents though. There's a problem there and you won't even know it's happening. The wool won't fall and you'll understand when building out a van. Also foam board is great too
Been watching you for a long time! So stoked you got this system! My van conversion has been pushed off again :( i had to sell everything last year due to a family issue and now i had a medical issue :( Hoping to get back to it soon! Looking great again so stoked you got the full system let us know how it runs!
12:18 for anyone wondering- its important! Heat travels through SOLIDS very easily so putting air pockets between you and the outside makes heat slower to escape. stuffing it means theres less space between solids and the heat will find it easier to leave the inside of the van
Dude great job! I’ve been watching over the past yet and it’s been a fun ride. Glad to see a dream come true. So many great ideas. Keep the videos coming! 😎👍🏼
Super sick and what a great use of space!!! BTW If I didn't want a storage space to the left of the bed like you I would lose or integrate counter space but have a bigger bed, right? What are the dimensions of your bed?? I have a medium plus size dog and she sleeps with me so I want to make sure its comfy with space but if the dimensions are right this van is perfect.!!! I have be leaning to a drop down bed but your murphy is super sweet!

I've made a couple of tour buses for touring bands, one of the biggest stipulations was absolutely no rattling and definitely no squeaking due to people sleeping wile traveling, the lengths i had to go to, every joint, every touching surface had to be glued too keep it quiet, so i was wondering, since you didn't do any of that, how much noise does it when driving along?
Are you planning to get your van jacked up and make it into a 4 wheel drive like Brandon Gross' Ambo, he took it to a place call "Sandyvans" in oregon I think to get it done. He even has a wench installed in the front bumper of the ambo.
Hi from germany :) very nice build, but you need to protect the DC Cables under the wall. They running sharp cornors on metal and your van is moving a lot, so they can get cut! Please use flexible cablepipes to make your home safe. Cheers
Yeah sure, but even double coated cables will get cut over time in sharp corners. You can never be carefully enough, especially with cables from the solar system where a lot of power is running through in a car out of wood with burnable isolation next to the cables.
Building a tiny home on wheels out of a lift bus. I'm snagging your Murphy bed idea, but it will be front side and I'll make the back a movie screen for a projector...
@@JarrodTocci thanks..it's going to be! Got a great deal on the bus, paid $2,000 for it, the previous owner spent $6,000 in repairs. It's what normally would be considered high mileage, but will give me another 200,000 miles if it's treated right. Very strong engine, a triton V10...
Amazing, I live in Toronto and have a plan to have one of these mobile homes myself, but I have noticed many sprinters are getting rusty during long wintertime. Randomly, I did ask one of the sprinter drivers in the city to know about models and rusty body issues, he mentioned that the older models had a bad alloy body, not the new one. What's your opinion? Do you prefer a sprinter engine or Transit pro-master? Which cargo van has the best anti-rust body? Would be happy to hear anyone comment. Best
I love how your using Asia style bathroom ideas as well as studio flats in your van this is how I’m planning to make my van but a little bit different maybe steal that shower idea though ;)
Wool works great. I met with the company that processes it and they gave me all the information I needed. The wood is treated inside the walls too for mold
Appreciate the work you are putting into the videos on this. I haven't committed yet, but in a year or so I think I'm selling my house to start this crazy lifestyle. Cheers!
You may have cracked the toilet/shower in a small van problem. The problem being a dedicated shower/toilet unit simply takes up too much damn space. I like your solution. It's there when/if you need it, and not when you don't. Let's face it, if you need a good scrub up, truck stop showers are the go. Well done. Is the exterior suitably stealth? How do the windows show on the outside?
Mostly everyone that's seen my van in person has said it's very stealthy. The windows look more stock then most which is why I went with them. I'm putting out a vlog on Sunday that will show a lot more of what I mean
Hi Jarrod, i worked as a mobile crane operator here in the UK and bn thinking about how much i could SAVE by building a camber/house on wheels because then i could literally save 20 grand a year ,yes i know the iniitial cost but even after that i would STILL have the camper at the end AND i would save on almost everything else Associated with either renting a house or Apartment or buying. I want to see a "day in the GHOST life" video. Getting up (is it pitch black? Overhead switch is not near the bed) Hiding your bed, getting breakfast ready Where are your clothes, stove, food stored? LOVE to see your editing setup. So much counter space or do you work off your GHOST table? Do you entertain guests often? Again, really enjoy your channel, keep doing what you do !
Thank YOU! Such good suggestions. And I've been wanting to do a video like this just didn't know how. But you sparked something so I'll get something out before the year is over
Just curious why you would choose a radiant floor heating system? The numbers don't make sense. 90 watts will not put out enough heat to heat your glove box regardless of how efficient the system is. It takes up a lot of room. It doesn't seem like it would be very efficient and use a ton of energy and a lot of your heat is going to be lost through the bottom of the floor.
90 watts it just regarding the power, but the BTU output is 18,000 which enough to heat a small cabin. The 90 watts is also running full blast, but when it keeps it on a steady state its more like 30 watts of power. The coldest part on a van is the floor and that lets in most of the cold is through the floor. So having this system helps a ton with that and heat raises. My lithium batteries are also on the floor which really helps because lithium batteries should never get too cold or they will fail.
floor heating also gives an even heat and distributes well, unlike an often blocked radiator. And no, it doesn't really take up more room, if anything, it allows you to use the space even more efficiently when you don't have to consider a radiator and it's need of free airflow to be efficient. Hooked up to your engines cooling system it's basically free heat when driving, and it keeps your engine warm for easy starting in the winter. Floor heating is standard in "polar-class" RVs and campers in northern europe, because in a real winter setting.
One thing I’ve wondered about radiant heat in both vans and houses...is the expectation that the system will never leak? If not, how do you determine if there’s a leak when you can’t see anything
Not sure about a home but in this system in a van you'll know pretty quickly. They also pressure test the system before they even add the liquid so as long as you don't drill into a pipe after the fact you should be fine and there's no way to puncture the tubing after it's in
Only thing that would make this cooler would be a electric engine or a hybrid just in case. At least during the summer months you could probably cross the US in the month and a half. Only cost you have to worry about food, water, and other living expenses. This could be a cool way to travel.
This vid just super useful. I’ve been watching vids on van life. I’m looking to build one for myself but had no clue. As not many people I can buy a van for $150 to $200k for a finished van build one yourself may be the way to go. I’m curious how much it cost though. I look forward to seeing the cost breakdown vid
I can understand that Troy may want a proprietary build layout for the Hydronic Heat System to be kept confidential but in the van build world that is shortsighted. Those who can afford to hire someone to install it, will most certainly do so. Those who cannot, would be grateful for the knowledge and refer others to him. He is not manufacturing the components, he is assembling them. Additionally, if his components are custom built for his company, no one can buy them elsewhere. Not wise to obscure the install. Regarding solar panels, no panel is designed for weight on it. They develop minute cracks and short life. This is a myth, and if you cover the entire roof with panels, you have no space for fans, vents, and will destroy them by walking. They said this about the thin flex panels and they were wrong. The shower toilet is well done! Love that marble tile/FRP - leave us a link for that material. The space is well used for dual purpose. Look at Humble Road videos and check out how he handles this section of the van. Some good ideas there.
Using your videos as research for doing my own van build some day. A shower is required for me. As a mtn bike, gotta wash and looking at an inside option.

Thanks for sharing! Like how you kept the bathroom compartmentalized. Like Katy in NH said, it makes it way more open. Unless I missed it somewhere, I would like to see you actually standing in the shower area, clothes on of course, to get an idea of roominess. Also, like your consultant business model. Hope that becomes very successful!
Thank you very much! I will do a full video around the shower soon enough and you'll see me 5'8" in there and hopefully someone even taller to see how they like it. I'll be the first to admit that it's tight but having the shower there was just huge for me. When I took that trip to banff it was really hard to find public showers so for trips like that it will come in handy for sure.
Jarrod Tocci but the location of that window?! I guess you must have a curtain or something or leave it open and give ‘em a show? 😂
Love seeing you work with Troy, Tiny Watts, and your dad! Sweet build!
Thank you
***..WOW .. !! full equipped with quality up to date technologies .. well built ( wool is the best isolation ) nothing but the best .. love your plan .. This is The Best converted Van ever .. congratulations Jarrod you've built yourself a GORGEOUS home .. AMAZING and UNIQUE !! { Thanks a lot for your generosity 😘💕.. }***
Thank you!
Lovely! Very nice! Love the idea of radiant heated floor, Will be interesting to see how that works out in conjunction with the wood floor.
Jarrod did the heated floor work out well to help keep you warm up in the cold in Banff , Canada & did the shower work well & give you a decent shower ? Will the gray tank be heated so it won't freeze up in the winter time cold ?
Thank you for this ! I’ve been wanting to start on my van but did not know where to start
You’re awesome dude! I know you’re vans legit because you got the tiny watt people worked on it. Plus your bathroom is creative.
By far the coolest shower space I have ever seen on one of these builds. Great work!
One of the best vans I’ve seen, soooo awesome
Really like the wet bath you designed!
amazing job Jarrod, well done!
Beautiful! And High Craftsmanship! Your Pops Taught You Well! Good Luck With The Build!
Best built I saw in the past 3 years !!! very nice !
Thank you!
👍Looks good. Great plan. The 😍recirculating shower is gonna be awesome!!! 🤗💞🤗
Aww, you were in Portland!! I’m in Portland!! I thought I loved your ceilings but now that I know you have heated floors??? I didn’t even know that was possible inside of the van. So awesome! Great build!
Wow - great build! Very functional and streamlined! Congrats!
ballin out of control!! so impressive!
Thank you
personally I would have made the toilet cover counter a fold up to block the window for showers. But great build man, looks awesome.
Thank yiu. My shower video and how I convert it coming early February. You'll see why I didn't do that but good idea
Very nice looking van build. I wanted to keep my interior white also but didn't know how that would look. You made it look really awesome. Thanks for the video.
Thank you! Another way to break up the space with color is use a color on the cabinet fronts
I subbed just for the concept of the layout itself. Impressive project brother. Not a huge fan of the shower conversion that's in place here, but it works as it should and thats all that matters! I wanna see someone convert something crazy like a redwood tree into a small house. lol Feel like taking that one on?
That's a damn good build i wish i could think of things like this sadly I'm still in a home dreaming of the van life and the open road. Good job
Sorry to say but you're incorrect with the copper. There is antifreeze used and it's glycol. Also the glycol and water never cross each other
@@JarrodTocci Well, PEX can't turn sharp like that unless there are elbows at each corner and I wouldn't want all those connections under my floor - one is bound to leak. So if it is PEX, I'm not impressed.
Nice job sharing your van build. Excellent story telling.
Beautiful ceiling lights @17:40
Props on the build. My only concern is the choice of insulation. I think you'll find that after 10k miles all the insulation will be at the bottom of their pockets from all the road bumps and vibration. That's why I advise spray foam. Nothing else gives you the same r value and noise dampening in a single product. There are other good products as well but you need to mix and match in order to make it work. The radiant heat though is epic!
Thank you. Look more into spray foam and rodents though. There's a problem there and you won't even know it's happening. The wool won't fall and you'll understand when building out a van. Also foam board is great too
@@JarrodTocci Ive worked with a van for over 6 years and 100k miles. No rodents. The foam is exposed though not hidden.
What a beautiful build, thank you for sharing it!!
Been watching you for a long time! So stoked you got this system!
My van conversion has been pushed off again :( i had to sell everything last year due to a family issue and now i had a medical issue :( Hoping to get back to it soon!
Looking great again so stoked you got the full system let us know how it runs!
The conversion will happen for you when it's supposed to, no worries. Hope things start turning for you
@@JarrodTocci :) thanks man, in the mean time i just keep watching videos and staying motivated!
I love this build and video!!!! Thanks Jarrod!! Radiant heat at a better price ... i was looking at an Alde but they are costly!
Thank you!
This is the professional van build
You are so inspiring thank you so much for giving me hope I love your show it is awesome I really wish that I could do the same thing I feel so trapped in my life and my job and I I want to try that lifestyle van living and in my I'm on a disability I would love to live a new lifestyle change I feel like I'm too old to start again I'm 58 years old living in Toronto Canada I listen to every word you say about self stealth living my only problem is I can't drive 😣 and I feel that I'm too old to learn I wish I knew somebody that would love to do that with a companion it would be nice to have a travel companion 2 you and Bob Wells have inspired me so much thank you so much and the boat working I can work you've met so many friends so inspiring. I'm just watching your video on building on 2nd van it's amazing I really like your first van with a shower and Jim Murphy bed I can live like thatget rid of all my old junk that I don't use it seems like a lot of work but it'll pay off in the long run and the adventure and journey would be fantastic 😊😁 thanks once again looking forward to your next
THIS IS EPIC WORK WOW !! BEAUTIFUL !!
Is it radiant cooling as well? Please tell me more about the recirculating shower. And what are you using for a toilet?
I've made a couple of tour buses for touring bands, one of the biggest stipulations was absolutely no rattling and definitely no squeaking due to people sleeping wile traveling, the lengths i had to go to, every joint, every touching surface had to be glued too keep it quiet, so i was wondering, since you didn't do any of that, how much noise does it when driving along?
Small creaks in wood but honestly there's not much noise other then some wind noise
Enjoyed the whole video. Great van build.
Cheers
They are double coated wires just for that reason
Yeah sure, but even double coated cables will get cut over time in sharp corners. You can never be carefully enough, especially with cables from the solar system where a lot of power is running through in a car out of wood with burnable isolation next to the cables.
Building a tiny home on wheels out of a lift bus. I'm snagging your Murphy bed idea, but it will be front side and I'll make the back a movie screen for a projector...
Oh that sounds cool!!
Phenomenal build. Thank you for sharing the process.
Best
Hey Jarrod...Be safe Ghost looks awesome!!!
I love how your using Asia style bathroom ideas as well as studio flats in your van this is how I’m planning to make my van but a little bit different maybe steal that shower idea though ;)
This is really great. Makes me want to do it. I'd hate to have to get out and go around to the back to get into closet space though.
Thank you. I just use that space as "garage" space or extra storage
@@JarrodTocci ah okay that makes more sense.
How's that wool work with vapour? Surely you gotta seal that over before you panel over your wood struts...
This is an amazing build. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the lighting, seems really cold like florescent.
A question Mercedes Unity RV vs a custom build sprinter - differences - pros - cons
GHOST2 looking dope! will be very interested to see that shower in action...looks cumbersome and impractical, but will be happy to be proven wrong. :)
Now i have bn very ill for a number of years but thank G.O.D i have found the right doctor who found the problem in my spine so on the road to full recovery so back to work and buying a small house when i can PAY IN FULL would be ideal and thats the plan NO RENT NO MORTGAGE winner winner stuff the banks , YOU have given me some fantastic tips but could you go over the diesel blown air heating system as they work fantastic here in our Cranes and lorries in the COLD NIGHTS in the UK chheers SCOOBS UK.
Glad you're doing better! Always love hearing about how I inspire! Keep up the hard work
Jarrod Tocci lolz
Definately gonna do radient floor temperature with mine
Hi! First, I love your van. Could you tel me what kind of 12v a/c you used? I need one for my Dalmatian and all I find when I google it are those tiny boxes that cost $29-89 dollars that don’t work!
Cruise N Comfort
Holy shit! Awesome build brother, thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
What kind of air-conditioning systems do these vans have? Sleeping in Phoenix in July would be miserable without a cooling system?
Currently don't have one. But if I did I'll go with a cruise and comfort model which is 12v but is also over $4000
Hey Jarrod love your videos just wondering what type of fur strips you used i started using a birch for my fur fur strips would you recommend that or should i use a regular type of a plywood thank you sir
Think I used plywood but don't remember which. I also suggest spraying them or coating them with some sort of finish to protect them from any condensation
@@JarrodTocci Hey thank you for getting back to me on that and the heads up on coating the fur strips some kind of deck coating ? or what do you recommend sir I started using birch 1/2 inch strips because it had less knots I take it its ok ? since you didn't mention not to anyway if your still in San jose would like to meet you I,m in the willow glen area i have a 2018 promaster i would pay cash for an hour of your time? Just have a hand full of question thanks Jarrod
love that bathroom idea.
I've been following you for a while and enjoy your channel because you bring out a happiness and it's contagious with the guests you have. Glad to see this video on the complete build. I want to see a "day in the GHOST life" video.
Getting up (is it pitch black? Overhead switch is not near the bed)
Hiding your bed, getting breakfast ready
Where are your clothes, stove, food stored?
LOVE to see your editing setup. So much counter space or do you work off your GHOST table?
Do you entertain guests often?
Again, really enjoy your channel, keep doing what you do !
Thank YOU! Such good suggestions. And I've been wanting to do a video like this just didn't know how. But you sparked something so I'll get something out before the year is over
Bad A$$ Build!!! What an amazing job. What did you use for ideas and help for your build? I’m putting together a plan of my own.
Floor heating is standard in "polar-class" RVs and campers in northern europe, because in a real winter setting.
looks good. no vapor barrier between the insulation and panelling though?
Not supposed to use vapor barrier when using real wool insulation
Don't use a vapor barrier in a van there's one already...the outside steel
No need for teflectics/ vapor barrier between the wool and plywood? Or reflective between metal van wall nd wool?
No need for vapor barrier with wool
that shower idea is so genius
