Hi! I just wanted to thank you! I am 52 and got my first guitar at about 13.... When I told my mom I wanted a guitar, she said "I'll get you one if you can play Malaguena"... I got the guitar, and just play basic folk style acoustic. But then I found you. I watched and have been practicing! And finally 2 weeks ago, I sat my mom down and asked her if she remembered the Malaguena story, and she did. And then I said, well watch this... it only took about 40 years, but I finally played Malaguena for my mother. She loved it. It made us both very happy to sort of these musical bookends to this story. Thank you so much!!
Bless you sir !
That's one of the most amazing stories I have seen, well done friend
pro trick: you can watch movies on flixzone. I've been using it for watching all kinds of movies these days.

When I saw this video in 2013 , I had just few weeks in U.S.A, no English, zero experience with guitar. This video was my very first lesson in guitar and englis, Now I and my kid playing guitar . You are the best
Man, I'm a jazz guitar student and I'm just starting to build my classical repertoire with your videos. Thanks a lot.
Thank you for actually breaking down how to properly play, rather than throwing me straight into a battlefeild and expecting me to play Bach my first time like most the videos that are on youtube!
I've been learning this song by "bits and pieces" and this is first time that I've found instruction that puts it all together-start to finish! I appreciate that very much and grateful for your instruction.
Thank You.
You are the best guitar instructor!!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Thanks for the lesson James. Simply explained and demonstrated with some great tips to make it easier to play. You have opened up a new world for me. Thanks again.
Excellent lesson! My first foray into classical guitar after 30 years of blues. Love this!

This is the first song I have learned. Malaguena is one of my favorites. I've never played guitar before because it always seemed so complicated. You have made it fun, easy and exciting. Thanks for posting great lessons! Cheers!
Thank you James. you are a star. It is my firs tday of guitar playing but you made it so easy. Thank you ever so much

From Los Angeles Ca.
Great!!! I´m falling in love with spanish classical guitar sound!
Here is what I did:
Sit down with a 5x6 matrix on a sheet of graph paper, choose one mode or key to study, choose the root position (usually either the open string or the 5th fret) and draw-out all notes for each finger.
Premade charts help some but go in one of my ears and out the other.
Next focus on the next sequence I would play. Think of a C scale that starts on the 3rd fret on the A string. At the G I shift the whole hand up 3 frets
Hope this helps
Just starting playing the guitar again after a gap of 20 odd years and this is a great way to learn. Thank you so much for these lessons.
I learned it from you nearly 10 years ago.. now I'm visiting to relearn it. 🙏🙏👍👍
Ok, just got my guitar today, listened to this beautiful little song, seemed too hard but after the following along each steps I found out I can play it! Just need to play it more neatly and faster now but that comes with practice. I'm just amazed that something that seems complicated is in fact not at all and a beginner can start with this!
i mastered this in about 20 minutes. ive been playing rhythm thrash metal guitar for about 2 years and never mastered any of these fundamentals. only different picking styles with a pick. awesome thanks!
This is wonderful. Thank you so much!
I CANT GET OVER HOW GREAT AN INSTRUCTOR YOU R! thanks a bunch!
Thanks so much dear James! You are absolutely a great musician and teacher as well.
Didn't take long to get this down. I'm playing on an electric guitar so it doesn't quite have that nice nylon string sound. But still. I'm gonna drill this for about an hour before moving on. I'll get it right for a few tries. then I'll play some notes in the wrong order. I would like the thank Keith Richards for inspiring me to learn this.
+MaynardOwns same here :) good luck

I'm a nail-biting self taught rock/metal guitarist with 20 years of bad habits. This is going to be a fun challenge!
Fine presentation from a professional teacher. We thank you. You made so simple.
Maybe I am few years late but thank you for great tutorial. My fingers are torn after those hours of practice but I can finally hear music comming from my guitar at last :). It has pumped me for practicing even more. Thank you and take care.

Dave in the Adirondacks
Amazing!!!
The sincerity, self-assurance, and calmness in your face, voice, tone and tempo is an unopposed winner. Although, as per me, there hasn't been much on the videography, but the content is what that really matters; and you scored. So this can be said that the Beauty of Quality, as you clearly demonstrated, doesn't always need a Makeup, and can also be found in apparently dim lights.
Good job Amego. Keep it up. You rock.
YOU ARE THE BOSS JAMES! Thanks for such a comprehensive and digestible lesson. Guitar players have a bad habit of teaching licks/riffs etc WAY TOO FAST. Thank you for breaking it down. I'm sold.
Thanks again for all these great lessons! I've been having so much fun taking a little time every day to learn classical the "classical" way! Brilliant! Regards from Boston
. . . This Was Probably the BEST Guitar Tutorial I've Ever Seen. . . Thank You So Much. . . :)
Thank you so much. I just learnt this awesome piece without much difficulty and understanding of the basics. I love your approach. It kind of instills the learner with the motivation to learn the basics as she gets the confidence and end up surprised what she could actually do with the guitar herself with such a little help.
Not many people here can teacha AND play - you can. Excellent lesson.
I'm learning from this video, thanks for uploading it, its really useful, it's my first flamenco piece I barely know how to play guitar, I hope i learn more from your videos.
a beautiful song ...a beautiful lesson...thank you.
@schamata Thanks for all the positive feedback, I'm looking into creating some more Spanish tunes, when I get time... James
Best Teacher!
Thank you! :D I truly appreciate your lessons.
This is Malaguena by Earnesto Lecuona. He was a famous Cuban composer and pianist. He wrote this in 1955 for piano after visiting Spain. When it came on the radio it charted on Cash Box magazine. In 1961 Carlos Montoya arranged it for flamenco guitar and it has been a must learn guitar piece ever since. Lecuona died in 1963,.A second recording by the American country player Roy Clark. also charted.
Awesome tutorial my friend. Ive been looking for lessons in Spanish guitar and they are mostly very daunting. You explain things very well and obviously know what you are doing :) I shall do my best to follow along. Thank you !!
Thank you my first wonderfull song!!!!!
I would give many thumbs up if I could. I really appreciate the way you explain technique, and break down the parts of the song into easy-to-learn segments. I found this video to be very user friendly. Thank you for sharing your instructions on line. I am a beginner (sort of) and will enjoy learning this song. I like the way the song progresses from easier to more advanced all in one go.

Very good teaching.
Thank you very much....beautiful.
Yes all the PDF's have regular musical notation with Tabs written just below. I like this format because you can see the musical notation clearly as you read the tabs. This helps a lot when you get into time signatures, rests, etc..
Thank you! Great lesson!
