Want to learn your 3-note Major & Minor triads? Well, it is definitely possible, but you’ll have to commit a few minutes every day to make sure it happens. And, that is what is important; it isn’t going to take all day, just a little bit of time each day to make sure you understand the Major & Minor patterns and develop all the finger-shapes that are most important to them.
When it comes to getting 3-note triad shapes together, (or just having a clear understanding for the triad chord positions), everything always comes down to consistency. Missing a day or two, here and there, can take a toll on the effectiveness for how well you end up memorizing the shapes.
I’ve dedicated this lesson to showing you one of my proven drills for helping players memorize the Major & Minor 3-note triads. I’ve introduced this routine to 100’s of students making modifications to the routine to perfect it. The routine is now excellent for mastering all the 3-note triads across the guitar.
In the first part of the lesson I introduce the routine for Major triads and explain exactly what to do to get the shapes committed to memory. In the second part of the lesson I show you how to change the original Major shapes to Minor. This will give you everything you need to play any song. Additionally, I’ve included a Reggae jam riff to help you apply the shapes musically.

Your progression sounds beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for putting this video together. I really appreciate it !
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. You, sir, are the Triad Master! 🙂👍
YES... He's absolutely unreal, at not only triads, but his use of 2-note interval shots. Those are just insane in how he plays them, so musically. Definitely Andrew's one of the best guitar players on the whole UA-cam guitar instructors scene.
This where I struggle , the playing through chord switches even triads... back to practice great video!!
Thank you, Glad it helped!
Great lesson, Andrew! Thank you.
Terrific lesson and super smart practice exercise.
A thing I like about this is that some lessons say "how to play a G triad everywhere up and down the neck." You are not going to do this in a song. This lesson shows playing chord progressions as you would in a song.
Amazing, thank you
Lovely sound.
Beautiful ❤❤❤
That's how to play the guitar. Beautiful man...
I triad this before I'll triad this again thanks.
If at first you don't succeed...
@@patrickshepherd1341 dust yourself off and triad again
Yeah man
whats the song called for the tabs of that little song you played in the intro??
Gotta learn triads across strings 2,3,4 and 3,4,5 as they’re a big hole in my knowledge
So, I'm thinking... When playing triads, I've been strumming them like any normal chord.
Seems here like it is pluck all 3 at the same time with the pick and fingers 2 and 3.
Is that right?
Is that more right than what I'm doing or is it just another way to play a chord, not specific to triads?
Thanks
Quck question: when you are playing all three notes of the triad together, are you using hybrid picking, with the pick (between the thumb and index finger) picking down, and the middle and ring finger picking up?
That is 100% correct. You got it. Thanks for watching and for the comment. - Andrew
That opening piece sounded like the theme to an old spaghetti western movie 😂
Mmmm….Spaghetti🤤
Good lesson forboth beginners and more experienced players. Music not grunge. Thanks
Subtitles please.
