Leavening, like yeast, is forbidden during Passover. The house has to be scrubbed to remove all traces. There's more to it than that but that's the gist.

Ilana Sheinberg yep! Me too ;) on the flip side I thought it was a brilliant plan to sort the LEGOS and have them washed in the bathtub by the children!! Is it considered child labour? Lol 😂
Hi Ilana! Thank you for watching! It’s not easy for me as well to flip the box and see all the legos spill like that! What i do love is to see my kids clean the pieces: they 🤭 giggle and clean the LEGO’s “teeth” with a tooth brush! Perhaps dentists in training lol! How are is quarantine/ self isolation for you and your family?

A general tip for storing Lego. Get some tools boxes for screws. The Lego can be sorted after colour and/or size which also helps a lot if you want to build something.
Over the years I have learned to keep Pesach work as easy as possible. When my grandchildren were little I had a covered wheeled container plastered in Pesach sitckers with a few cleaned toys plus some just for Pesach. I still keep some games with my Pesach supplies. Select clothes, perhaps only one purse, books, accessories, etc. and lock up, cover, make unaccessable everything else . Sider, tehillim, a few seforim, magazines and a few selected books are kept in he Pesach closet. Books shelves can be covered with sheets or drop cloths and depending on floor space put a long covered table for serving with storage of bulk items items underneath. I no longer empty every cabinet, pantry and draw, only what is neccessary. I do recall the year when a mustard bottle was found under a bed stuck to shag carpet! Now it's sweep, vac, mop last day.
So about 2 times a year I do a cleaning like this. I am alway shocked what I find… I don’t have kids yet I am low key scared to see what I find when I am a mom. Lol. Thanks for sharing! This is really interesting to learn about.
Kids are a big reason I insisted on having a top-loading washing machine. If I had a dollar for every time my kids would come running up with stray items of their clothing on laundry day (especially their socks!) right after I’d turned on the washing machine, I’d be a rich mom today! Top-loaders meant I could just open the lid long enough to toss their clothes into the load and keep on going. Didn’t even need to turn off the machine. Once they turned 10, I made it mandatory that they learn to do the laundry so I didn’t have to be doing it all, so any odd socks that missed their hampers after that point were THEIR problem! Of course, getting teenagers to actually _do_ their laundry is another headache!
Professor Michel woooowww that is AWESOME! I also have a bit to go!! The bigger piece of the “puzzle” for me will be the kitchen as it will be our 1st Shabbat Hagadol that we spend home!! Stressing!
@@frumitupI’m a volunteer firefighter/EMT, and I vividly remember one “medic assist” call where the paramedic in charge asked the patient to rate their pain on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being “no big deal” and 10 being “stepping on a Lego.” Everybody in the room cracked up, even the patient!

Wow! This is a huge job! Especially when you have kids (although our fur babies can stash stuff places, lol.) I wonder if this is where the general society idea of “Spring Cleaning” came from? I always stumble on things we seem to do/say normally in modern secular society have their roots in very old traditions, many which came from different religions. Also, things like the lipstick…are they just taken out of the house for the Passover week, or do they have to be thrown away? Just curious. It must be a great feeling to have the super clean house! I loved the idea of throwing the toys in the tub…I was thinking exactly that when you showed the million Lego box, lol…then there it was! You’re a smart woman!

So why does the house have to be immaculate for passover?
It's a commandment to not have even tiny piece of chametz in your house
Chametz is stuff with yeast or leavening agents in it (I think. I'm not Jewish, just a nerd, lol).
Here is the scripture in TORAH > EXODUS 12:15, G-D says, "For seven days you shall eat unleavened cakes, but on the preceding day you shall clear away all leaven from your houses, for whoever eats leaven from the first day until the seventh day that soul shall be cut off from Israel."
