One of your videos came up in my recommended list and I loved it. I have always loved the Jewish faith (I am not Jewish), and watching your videos I find peace and relaxation in my soul. Your voice is so soothing and your smile is full of joy and peace. Thank you, Shalom from my family in Atlanta GA to yours.

I am not Jewish, I am Muslim but always felt an affinity with the Jewish people and have been asked if I am Jewish before. Recently I found out I am of part Ashkenazi heritage on my dad's side though my dad passed away a few years ago so he never knew. I also suffer from an executive functioning disorder meaning I struggle to complete tasks or I miss out important steps. Your videos sre very helpful in this regard and very interesting. Thank you.

Thank you so much for your videos. My father’s mother, my grandma was Jewish. I did not know this till after both my grandma and my father had passed. She cooked and cleaned so precisely, watching you brings her back in my memories, but I had no clue, I was very young. I am 63 now. I have been using your recipes and my husband of 36 years loves them. Thank you again…

I am not Jewish but as a child, our next door neighbor was a rabbi and family. The children were my playmates and my dad ( he was a Baptist Protestant minister ) and the rabbi became friends. I was blessed with that experience and also later as a nurse worked as a nursing supervisor in a Jewish owned and run elder care facility. Working there I learned much more about holidays and daily, weekly traditions. Picked up a decent recognition of Yiddish too. All of this made me have had a life long interest and affinity with many things in various Jewish firms and culture , and find this channel and family very interesting, and meaningful. Also loving recipes! Wonderful cuisine. Love this family too. Thanks, Sonya and family.

Thank you! The kosher stores are over an hour away so we need to do our shopping in one trip to one store, and with inflation I have finally learned that I don’t need as much. The one thing I did this year was go through my freezer and check all my leftovers. I now have a meal plan for the foods to use up before I turn my kitchen over.

@Fern Katz - You’re in the same boat I am! Kroger near me (only one store of many) carries a few kosher for Passover items each year. I was only able to get on box of KfP Manischewitz Matzoh, one can of Farfel, one can of cake meal, and one can of matzoh meal. I am cheating this year on the Gefilte fish, I bought the jar variety (Yehuda), and a few snack items from Osem they carry.
I’m going to have to make the hour long trip to get everything else that is KfP I cannot buy locally. Tonight I will be going through every Pesach cookbook I have and choosing what we will have. I always make a chocolate cake everyone loves, and I have my Pesach meatballs [we do a meat course each year], and I’m not sure what else… this ridiculous economy in the US at the moment is making everything worse.
      Have you a menu planned?

I organize my grocery shopping list according to how the aisles of my grocery store are arranged, as far as the order they come in.
So when I walk in, produce is on the left. From there I go to the next aisle according to what's on my list. I only go down those aisles where there are items on my list, so there's less temptation to buy things that aren't on that list.
Be aware that some grocery stores deliberately rearrange things periodically in order to force customers to walk the whole store. A local manager of a chain store told me that. He also said that's the reason they put milk at the back of the store, to make customers pass through as much of the store as possible.

So aside from the five, how do you treat rice ,beans/legumes,peas and other kitniyot? Gebrokts? Can you do all seeds if you do quinoa? What other little items do you get kosher for pesach - like pickles, cabbage, tortillas...
Mushrooms are also great veg items for pesach. Seaweed (maybe agar agar) little bit pricier, but that and coconut cream are go to's.
: Matzah ball soup - mushrooms add depth to the stock, "gefilte seaweed"
Portabellas ,with potatoes, braised honeyed carrots, salad. Whipped coconut cream dessert w. macaroons/avocado key lime bars/frozen dessert/coconut- almond- chocolate or cocoa nib brittnola.
Vegetable stews:stock vegetables, herbs./Mixed dried mushrooms, dry wine, eggplant.
    Stuffed mushrooms.
Shepherd/gardeners pie: mashed potatoes, mushrooms, walnuts, veg.
Vegetable kabobs: mushrooms, veggies, yogurt or other (vegan)cream, lime, lemon,Indian spices: turmeric, ginger ,etc
Ground/food processed mushrooms for patties(mixed with parsley, nuts, tomatoes, coconut oil, like veg chapli kebabs, quinoa tabbouleh),"meatloaf",spiralized veg and mushroom baked casserole, "taco meat"and veg chips.
One year my mom got creative and broke away from the stew and tried the sliced potatoes baked with whisked egg and veg cheese poured over it(think it's called a tortilla?) Usually we just keep making avocado on matzah, hash browns, fransuzke zemjaki /potatoe gratin........
    Fav Passover flavor: horseradish
Fav food: "gefilte seaweed" and matzah ball soup because we had so much chicken noodle soup growing up , matzah balls were a nice change.
Your favorite seder plate item/fav flavor/fav food is what Sonya?
    Least fav Passover food?

@Sonya’s Prep - As always, I love the video!!! I am JUST starting for Pesach prep! Bought the ubiquitous Kosher for Pesach Manischewitz Matzoh 5 pack earlier (they literally had _ONLY_ one). Grabbed my cake meal, farfel and matzo meal too. The closest Kosher Market to me is over an hour drive away. So, I’m gonna be a busy gal this week getting ready!
Question… your menu includes two roasted meats? Your Rabbinical authority allows roasted meat? I was always told that was a no-no. I figure I’m stuck with slow cooker meat cooking, or pressure cooker meat cooking.
Pesach is my _favorite_ holiday… but it’s always so much work. I just enjoy that it is one time when the entire family takes time to gather. Everyone is always so busy.
[early early] Pesach Sameach to you and your lovely family!

Thank you for your videos. I can no longer afford to do Jewish, so it's nice to see even though I'm unable to do it anymore. I'm cheering for you not from the cheap seats, but outside the stadium listening. lol

@NothingToNoOneInParticular - What did you mean by, _”I can no longer afford to do Jewish…”?_ Do you mean keep kosher? I am unclear what “do Jewish” means.
Are you Jewish? If so, sweetie, you’ll always be “do[ing] Jewish” - because you can never _not_ be Jewish if you’re Jewish. lol
These crippling policies are hurting us all, you’re not alone. Contrary to the famous trope ‘all Jews are rich’… we aren’t! Many of us are experiencing difficulties right now. Keeping Kashrut is _very_ expensive. I cannot keep perfect Kashrut in my house, either. We have to eat what we can afford to eat. I’ll keep kosher as much as I can afford to, but it’s more important that we don’t starve!
If there’s anything I can share with you (tips, tricks or whatever), I’d be happy to!!!
      Shavua Tov, friend.

Hello, love watching your video. I’m planning to make stuffed onions for first Seder. Is rice ok to eat during Passover?

Hi Sonya, thank you for your video's. Just curious, what do you do with the grains and leavening ingredients that you have to remove from the home? Happy Passover.

There is a process of selling items that my community Rabbi does before Passover which makes certain Items in my home no longer considered my own.
I place those items in a closet or fridge that I don’t use and sell it.
After Passover the items are all “bought back”

I know you are talking about your food prep but I think you skipped over the part about whether you have cleaning help because there is no way you can work and clean and cook two weeks before pesach unless your husband is cleaning or cooking too.

12 Tribes came out of Mitsrayim! The Jews are just one tribe. The feasts days are Yehovah Tzeva'ots Feasts. We the ten scattered tribes are coming back to Torah. Yeshua redeemed us! He was crucified so that He could arise on the 3rd day as a new Man so as to be able to bring the 10 tribes back that received a GET from YHVH. Chag Sameach Pesah. From the scattered tribe of Re'uben in South Africa. Ezki'el 37!! Shema Ysrael Yehovah Eloheino, Yehovah Echad. Mishle 30. Shabbat Shalom
