I'm a Christian who was educated on Judaïsm during school and even did a project on one of the holidays. I went to a synagogue with my class during primary school and was amazed as a child. This video brought back those memories and I'm after 18 years still amazed. Sadly the synagogue in my hometown closed down after WWII, but it's a museum and monument to remember the people who were once part of the community.
Do you know the Talmud preaches pedophilia and ethnic genocide and calls non jews cattle/slave/beast? rabbis openly claim there is no purpose of the goy other than serving the jew. ( you are programed to be offended by these statements but its 100% truth.)
I live about 20 minutes from where the Tree of Life Synagogue in PA was the target of a horrible mass shooting. Thankfully, he was found guilty and is awaiting his sentence. How anyone could inflict such violence on a beautiful religion and its people is beyond me. I have prayed and will continue to pray for the victim's families. I have an even greater respect for the Jewish religion from watching your videos. I have learned so much.
Sara, I am going to echo what other Christians/Catholics have said. I actually was not surprised in the least by what is in the synagogue because we have the same items in our church. The sanctuary lamp, the candles of remembrance, the showing of Scripture during worship, the synagogue hall with the kitchen - it just made me feel glad. Thank you for your beautiful videos. Knowing that you are keeping the Faith helps me to stay grounded when doubts creep in. G-d bless you and your family.
As a traditional Catholic, I see the links between the worship and worship space and the set up of our sanctuaries! It makes my participation at our Liturgy so much clearer thank you Sister Sarah for sharing this beautiful video with us! Of course as St. Paul points out, you are the First Born in the Faith and gave us our Shape! Shalom!
I was going to say the same thing. All of your videos are beautiful and such a pleasure to watch. Thank you so much! Many blessings upon you and your family!
I loved the holy and reverent place where the scrolls were housed. The containers were beyond beautiful. The prayers contained in them must obviously come from God. Amen.
@@cynthialagraff4144 Dear Cynthia, thank you for your comment. This will help explain. 💖 What Are the Five Books of Moses? Often referred to as Torah, especially when in scroll format, the Five Books of Moses are the foundation of Judaism. Until this very day, the text-which is written in Hebrew-has been carefully preserved by the Jewish people. It is also known as Chumash and Pentateuch (related to the respective Hebrew and Greek words for “five”). As their name indicates, the Books were written by Moses, as dictated by G‑d Himself. Jewish people see every letter and every nuance as a sacred communication from G‑d, rife with significance and meaning. They contain 613 mitzvahs, Divine commandments that shape the life of Jewish people everywhere. The Five Books: Bereishit (Genesis): The creation of the world and the early history of the Jewish nation, including the stories of Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham and Sarah, and Joseph. Shemot (Exodus): The slavery in Egypt, the Exodus, the Giving of the Torah, and the building of the Tabernacle. Vayikra (Leviticus): Deals with the Temple sacrifices, kosher, and other aspects of Jewish ritual life. Bamidbar (Numbers): Many events that happened to the Israelites on their way to the promised land, including G‑d counting the people, the Spies debacle, the Korach uprising. Devarim (Deuteronomy): Nearing the end of his 40 years of leadership, Moses speaks to the people, preparing them for life in the Promised Land. www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/3912290/jewish/What-Are-the-Five-Books-of-Moses.htm
One thing that continues to warm my heart is that many things within the Jewish faith seem to be done with such purpose. Everything has a reason, and a history. For a religion that has faced such continual hardship throughout history, it makes me so happy to learn about the importance of all of your rituals and holidays, and that items related to your faith such as the mezuzah, the Torah covers, and even Shabbat table settings are so special and ornate. It shows me, as an outsider, the love that goes in to your faith and the care you take in practicing it. I love witnessing others who are so dedicated to their faith.
I found this out when i started my first job at 21. My co worker wasn’t Jewish and he told me he loved the Jewish religion because everything was done with purpose and meaning behind it. Also i don’t understand why people have hatred against Jewish people. I can’t even count how many times during Shabbat services we pray for peace for everyone.
@@ilenet9911 I love that! I am not religious, but i have the utmost respect for people who practice their own religions. If someone takes comfort in their faith and having something to guide them, and they are lead to do good things and be good people, then that is what counts!
I remember as a child our school arranged a visit to a synagogue. It was fascinating. I still remember the kosher kitchen with the separate areas for fish and meat. As an adult, I now appreciate the synagogue for allowing us inside and giving us a tour.
Even though it was over twenty years ago, I still remember attending my friend's bar mitzvah in a beautiful synagogue. I was one of the handful of Gentile friends invited and will always be grateful to the adults who gently guided us through the process. I have been in many, many churches since, but even the grandest cathedral can't compete with the warmth of that synagogue.
Shalom, Dr. Sarah. My husband introduced your channel, and I am looking forward to learning more on Orthodox Sephardic Judaism. I am currently a Noahide (left the Catholic faith more than a decade ago, and jumped to various Christian denominations; and have been drawn to Torah and Jewish Wisdom since about 9 years ago). I follow Rabbi Michael Skobac and Rabbi Manis Friedman. My husband is a regular at an Orthodox Sephardic Synagogue back home. Soon, B"H, we are looking forward to converting. Thank you for the videos.
I'm Christian and have been struggling with prayer and faith, so your videos have been so helpful for me to grow closer to God through these traditions. Also you have one of the best voices for voice-over on youtube! ❤
My family had a problem with a Christian church that closed it's doors to us in our hour of need, the local synagogue opened up their doors and their hearts to us...
@@jacquelynannehowardAngels often arrive from the most unexpected directions. I've experienced similar challenges. Focus on G-d and often help will find it's way to you. Ask and you may bless someone who is delighted to help.
@@jacquelynannehoward I don't understand how that is related to the original comment though. The original commenter only mentioned their own personal practice, they didn't mention the Christian church as a whole at all.
I loved connecting with you! Years ago I worked for a dentist who was Jewish, as I had never known anyone Jewish before I bought some books and did some reading. One day I had the courage to ask him if I could ask him a couple of questions as some of the books had different views. He was surprised but willing to answer my questions. It came down to orthodox versus newer reformed. When they had a baby naming for their daughter they invited me to attend as they thought that I would basic understanding and would be respectful. I thoroughly enjoyed it and was honoured to be their. Now I know more about a more orthodox version. Thank you!
I grew up Catholic and I remember going into the church to light candles for those who have passed. It's so interesting to see something similar! I find your channel fascinating. You are such a beautiful person inside and out
Sarah, I know you cannot always be joyful and content, but you cultivate that in your voice, your mannerisms ... bless you for being such a wonderful example to all of us! Thank you for showing us your place of worship! I love to connect with you, dear Sarah!
Thank you Sara for opening to us places that we maybe wouldn't ever have a chance to enter, the idea of connecting to new cultures and religions is such a beautiful exposure even more it being brought to us by you and your simplicity. it really means a lot 🥰 may god be on your side today too.
i could not agree with you more: the more we open our doors and bring our reality to life and not let social media peddle misinformation: the more we will be able to connect and better understand each other!
Your English is fabulous. I can only speak my native language. I am so impressed by those of you who are bilingual and kindly speak and write in English for people like me. Shalom
This is a very beautiful walk through of your synagogue. I am a Christian, and I especially wanted to see a Sephardic synagogue, so this was very helpful so I could see a different Jewish tradition than I have seen before. I enjoyed the beauty and symbolism, as well as hearing some of the customs by which you worship and interact. May God bless you.
Sara, thank you for your outstanding, continuous efforts to share your life with us! I learn so much in each and every one of your videos, all presented with care AND charm. Many days have passed in my life where your kind closing words were a much-appreciated boon. I love to connect with you! Thank you again ❤
I am struck with a sense of awe and wonder about how the Torah scrolls are decorated so beautifully. The word of the Almighty adorned with such honor and splendor. I love it!
Love the tree of life, not only it is beautiful, this is also a powerful reminder everyone is a part of a community, a part of something bigger than just an individual. Brilliant.
I lived in the Jewish orthodox neighbourhood of the High Rabbi of South Africa. My next door neighbour invited me to temple. It was a wonderful experience.
Thank you so much for this presentation. My very dearest friend who passed several years ago was Sephardic. I always drove her to Friday night services at the local reform synagogue. There were no other synagogues here then. She told many wonderful stories about growing up Sephardic and when I watch your presentations I am flooded with memories of her and feel like she is with me.
Love your videos Sara! I am a Christian, but love the Jewish faith and learning more about it. I find it so peaceful and comforting. Thankyou for sharing x
Another excellent video. I really appreciate all the videos that you make. They are high quality, thought provoking and encouraging. And... I know how much work goes into making such a video. Thank you again!
Your voice has such a beautiful, lyrical cadence; it’s always a joy to listen to you! Thank you for all the comfort you bring to us through these videos ❤
Thank you for posting this. I had been praying for you to post exactly this. I am Catholic, but I feel so connected to my Jewish brothers and sisters, and the way they worship. I cannot explain it. It just is.
I'm not Jewish, but attended a Lutheran church as a child and have been inside both Catholic and Greek Orthodox churches. All three of those Christian denominations had the eternal flame in the back of the sanctuary as well. It's so interesting to see things I'm familiar with in another religion's traditions. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful traditions with me!
What surprised me most was that no one seems to take off their shoes. I've been in mosques and Hindu temples but never in a Synagogue. Although I am a staunch atheist I loved seeing the beautiful decor and Torah scrolls (I would like to know how old they are). Jewish people seem so down to earth but also full of life, we owe them respect and peace.
Dear Dr Malka, this video was a breathtaking & marvellous insight into this place of worship. I am woefully uninformed about Judaism, so your kind warm guided tour of an Orthodox Synagogue is so helpful & informative! From the Tree Of Life display of inscriptions to the seating, you explained significance of these personalised aspects well. As a book lover, my favourite bits were you explaining the books supplied to worshippers and their purposes (I loved the wee pictures on spines to indicate when to be used), but most especially the stunning scripture scrolls! If appropriate, please convey thanks to all involved for the intimate film views of not just of the incredible skilled handwritten scrolls and their remarkable containers (which I understand are utmost sacred), but also seeing the honourable position in which they are housed in your house of worship! And attention to detail by architects and builders, that the steps on upper balcony were somewhat shallower. I think I’ll watch this again. My first video of yours (which got me to subscribe recently) was your tour of a kosher shop, which again was an delightful education. Oh and as final comment, I did love the digital clock showing all the information about times and dates in different formats - what a clever and practical piece of technology! And your signing off in narrating this UA-cam was so full genuine warmth and spiritual connection, I was personally moved. Many thanks
Your thoughtful and so well written comment made me cry of 🥹joy. Thank you for your kindness and support: it means so much to me Stay safe and blessed my friend ❤️
I love to connect with you! Thank you for taking us around to show us everything in the Synagogue! You have so graciously taken us through your own kitchen, shown us how women's hair is done, even shopping at the grocery store! Although not Jewish, I've longed for a life like this; rich in tradition and beauty. It is with a grateful heart that I say thank you for including me and all of us in your life and videos!
Thank you for the beautiful synagogue tour! Several years ago I had the good fortune to attend a conference at Mikveh Israel in Philadelphia. While there, I lived to attend weekday services in that awe- inspiring sanctuary. Also, the nusachim used to chant Shacharit was ethereal.
Such a beautiful holy place. Thank you for sharing it with us. And thank the beautiful man who did the filming of the holy books for us. They were so beautiful. Thank for sharing this with us.
Hello from Petach Tikva, Israel. I always enjoy your videos and learn something new. My husband is Mizrachi which isn't the tradition that I grew up with so the differences in customs is always interesting. I wish that I knew all the melodies to the various prayers in a Sepharidic synagogue because I don't and it keeps me from feeling as at home as I wish that I did. Also, the way of receiving an aliyah to the Torah was a big surprise to me. Another surprise for me here in Israel is the custom that the women have of throwing down candies for a special simcha like a bar mitzvah, for example. Anyway, I just wanted to say "shalom" so you are always sure that you are appreciated for all the work that you do in making these videos.
I'm Ashkenazi and I've been conservative my whole life. I absolutely love your channel because I've always wondered what it would be like to be orthodox. And the synagogue where I grew up is becoming more modern orthodox. ❤❤❤
Thank you Sarah.. I started with Israel Palestine topic and after many hours of reading news and research ended up here. Finally found something peaceful to finish. It's so detailed and you delivered everything with enthusiasm. Your voice is so lovely. If I had to make my tree of life I'll add this video title as an important event.
@frum it up Since I began watching your videos I have learned so much. But the 2 pieces of knowledge that have resonated with me the most are 1) that family life is a reflection of your Love for God and 2) that the women of your community are very supportive of each other. Such a Blessing!
Definitely loved connecting with you Sarah and absolutely loved your video! As an Orthodox Christian I find it fascinating learning about other religions and your channel brings me so much peace and comfort! God bless you!
I love to connect with you! One thing that surprised me was the light that is lit in the synagogue to honor God. We Catholics have a light that's always lit to honor the blessed sacrament in the tabernacle. It's wonderful how we're all alike in that way. Love to you and your family.
Synagogues are just breathtaking! The way the scrolls are cared for and stored are beautiful. Thank you to the men who helped in recording during a reading! It was beautiful to see. 😍😍
Sara, with great appreciation for this opportunity, what surprised me the most was the illuminated sign showing the times that Sh'ma and other blessings could be recited ... a very nice experience seeing a synagogue in the Sephardic tradition as I've only been in Ashkenazi facilities. Again, thank you so much. Many blessings upon you for your mitzvah and upon your family for their support.
Even though I am Catholic the synogogue has many elements that are familiar to me such as the lamp signifying God's presence and the protected area where the Word of God is kept. I am so thankful there is much we have in common! Blessings, Angela
Thank you for your ongoing sharing of your life and culture. I am not of your faith but was raised to be respectful of others' beliefs. Your synagogue appears to me to be a place of caring and sharing. Caring because of the respect for families and sharing because we're this not so, you would not have been permitted to let us experience it's beauty. It also appeared to be a place of peace but also one that shared joyous celebrations. My respects to you , your cantor and your rabbi for this sharing. Greetings from Brisbane Australia
I found the comment on praying in the same location in the synagogue interesting. Over the many, many years I have been going to church, I find myself always gravitating to same place in relation to the altar. At home I have a chair that I only use for prayer. This helps me remind myself that when I am in this chair, my focus is on G-d. I want to also share that a couple of weeks ago I asked the Frum It Up community to pray for some upcoming medical tests. Thank G-d, everything came back benign and able to be treated with medication. I am very grateful for any prayer that came my way. Sara, thank you for this wonderful place of learning and care.
This is so beautiful! I love seeing your synagogue. I need your prayers. I was driving down the road the other day. Of course, it was raining. I hydroplaned, hit another car, and hit the guardrail twice I think. Anyway, I have a broken femur on my right leg. I have a brace on it. So pray for quick and complete healing. It’s going to be a long road, but God is with me.
Dear Wendy, I am so sorry this happened to you and we will pray a Refuah Sheleimah for you our sweet sister! May you know and sense that G-d is by your side every step of the way and bringing you to a full and complete recovery! 💝 אֲדֹנָי יִשְׁלַח יִשְׁלַח לָהֶם רְפוּאָה שְׁלֵמָה רְפוּאַת הַנֶּפֶשׁ וּרְפוּאַת הַגּוּף וְנֹאמַר אַמֵּן Adonay yishlakh, yishlakh la'hem refuah sheleimah Refuat ha'nefesh urefu'at ha'guf venomar Amen G-d send, send to them complete healing Healing of the soul and healing of the body And we say: Amen
I love to connect with you. I absolutely love everything you showed I’ve never seen the inside of a synagogue. So beautiful. The respect and devotion is beyond compare. As God deserves.
More and more, your videos are becoming something I truly look forward to at the end of my week. Work has me oh so tired, but your soothing voice is every bit as refreshing as this mineral water I’m enjoying as I learn more about your life, your faith, your culture. It’s beautiful. I love to connect with you! ❤️✡️
I'm Catholic and attend the oldest Catholic church in our city. I believe it's beautiful but the Synagogue that you showed us is beyond any Holy place I've ever seen. My feeling in exploring this place is you can feel the presence of God in this place. Even if I don't understand Yiddish I can sense the same loving God in both your Synagogue and my church. Thank you so much for sharing this. The beauty was surprising to me.🕊️
@@gdr9213 and Yiddish is an Eastern European set of dialects. Yiddish from Poland is different than Yiddish in Romania or Germany. Sephardic Jews speak Ladino, a mixture of Hebrew and Spanish or Portuguese. Most Jews will speak the language of their local country. The writing seen in the synagogue is Hebrew (or English or French because they are in Montreal).
@@ilanagreen526this is a Sephardic synagogue where the native language varies from Lladino (judeo Spanish) English and Arabic (Mizarahi also attend Sephardic synagogues). Your thinking of ashkenazi Jews Yiddish is not Sephardic friend
The part of having your loved ones who are passed with you brought to tears. Very beautiful. Both my parents and my beloved aunt have passed and i believe their souls are at peace and guiding the living. I my purse i have little items that i carrie with me that i can touch so i can feel them near me. Your video's are amazing and i am watching them all. Sending you all my love from the Netherlands ❤
I am so happy this part resonates with you too❤️ I completely understand that by carrying something of them, makes you feel like they are with you 🥰🥰 Stay safe and blessed
Another beautiful informative video. I had never thought about the differences between Orthodox and Ashkenazi Synagogues. The Synagogue you showed here in this video is truly amazing.
I absolutely loved coming along with you, thank you so much for sharing with us ❤ I'm not Jewish myself but live in a Jewish part of my city and love learning from you, it's so interesting ❤️ xxx
I just got home from Mass (Roman Catholic) and saw your video up. I love my church and worshipping God in that special space. I love how you seem to have the same love for the space where you and your family worship God as well!
I love to connect with you. I'm not religious myself but I find your videos very calming. I appreciate learning about your traditions and the positivity you share.
Just so beautiful thank you for showing us this video.I am so impressed with the Orthodox culture.I am not of Jewish faith but I enjoy leaning more of yor religion.Bless to you.
This is one of your best videos (to my test)…..everything is included in a simple clear description 🌹🙏🏻MERCI SARAH 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹I really enjoyed it ,it felt like “HOME”
The fact that every detail was planned purposefully, the stairs for example is so beautiful and I loved the gallery for the women. I love to connect with you. Thank you Sara for bringing us along in this very personal journey. This synagogue is so beautiful
I love to connect with you! I always enjoy your videos. You are so gentle and sweet. I learn so much from you. My day has been rough and you brought some peace to me. Thank you.
Salut Sara, je suis énormément étonnée que le synagogue ait un grand vestibule pour les fetes et une cuisine complète avec de nombreux d'assiettes. Et oui j'aime beaucoup connecter avec toi. Bonne semaine et à la prochaine fois
Hi Sara Malka. I’m still so glad you’re back! You’re one of my favourite channels! I’ve just come back from Israel and was able to pass on a few bits of knowledge that I’ve learned from you to my travel partner (the mezuzah, kiddush cup, the kosher kitchen, why married orthodox Jewish women cover their hair and how). I really enjoyed it there and leaned so much. I hope you are well 😊
I loved to connect with you! I was first introduced to Judaism via an old friend. I found the traditions and Hebrew beautiful. I still find Judaism to be so full of beauty.
Even for somebody apart from any faith, places of worship are often so beautiful and peaceful and this synagogue is no exception. This tour is lovely, thank you for sharing with us and thanks to the people in the synagogue for permitting all the filming! The part about how your families carried candles at your wedding to include departed loved ones in the ceremony made me tear up a little.
Thank you for this! I am not Jewish and have not had the privilege of being in a synagogue. What a beautiful place of prayer, worship, reverence, and joy!
This showed me how much the traditional Catholic Church has used in our Mass from you guys as you came first. So much symbolism. So much scriptural events represented. I'm just in awe. If only we Catholics loved our faith as you do. Some most definitely do, Others have forgotten. Praise be to God.
After some Jewish friends kept telling me I had an unmistakable Sephardic face (their words), I started to do a research and my family name is actually derived from Cohen. And because I'm Portuguese this connection with a Jewish ancestry is very likely to be true. Thank you for sharing this knowledge, it's not common to find the interior of a Sephardic Synagogue. Merci Beaucoup!
The most surprising part for me was the incredibly rich ornamentation on the Torah protective covers. I also wonder why the scrolls are written without vowels?! Thank you so much, Sarah, for this amazing tour of an orthodox synagogue. ❤️
Hi Karen! I am so happy you liked the decoration on the Torah Scrolls :) there is no vowels as it is a perfect replica of the Torah Given by G.od to the Jewish people and there was no vowels in it :)

I have learned so much.
thank you Stacy :)
My ❤ goes out to you and your community.

Dear Sarah Malka! My favorite element is you telling me everytime that "You are enough just the way you are!" It means so much to me!! Thank you!!
You are enough sweet Michal🥰🥰🥰
What Are the Five Books of Moses?
The Five Books:
Bereishit (Genesis): The creation of the world and the early history of the Jewish nation, including the stories of Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham and Sarah, and Joseph.

I'm Catholic too, I'm wondering something, are the names written in the sitting areas in the synagogue?
@@Markosslll Yes.
@katelynatkinsos3336 thank you so much for your kind words ❤️❤️❤️

I remember as a child our school arranged a visit to a synagogue. It was fascinating. I still remember the kosher kitchen with the separate areas for fish and meat. As an adult, I now appreciate the synagogue for allowing us inside and giving us a tour.
We did the same, I went to a Catholic school.
That's awesome!!! I was never allowed an opportunity like that...wish I had❤
The separation of food is dairy (milk) and meat.
I love to connect with you!

You are such a beautiful person inside and out
I say this with great respect, I'm 100% amazed at everything there. I never realized the level of details you have there.

Brilliant.

I was surprised about the big kitchen in the synagoge. Really nice to have a look in the synagoge together with you. Thank you.

I am Catholic and am still surprised at how much we have in common i our churches and synagogues. Thank you for your videos.
Jews do not remove their shoes when inside a synagogue.

Wow the Torah are so beautiful!! Actually the whole Synagog is beautiful.

I really love the tree of life in your synagogue. It is beautiful and deeply symbolic. And those Torah scrolls are stunning, just incredible!
So nice of you
Hello from Petach Tikva, Israel.
I have to say the thing that surprised me the most was the beautiful containers that kept the Torah scrolls. They were so breathtakingly gorgeous.
I totally agree! I find them absolutely stunning!
I love to connect with you! One thing that surprised me was the light that is lit in the synagogue to honor God. We Catholics have a light that's always lit to honor the blessed sacrament in the tabernacle. It's wonderful how we're all alike in that way. Love to you and your family.

Even though I am Catholic the synogogue has many elements that are familiar to me such as the lamp signifying God's presence and the protected area where the Word of God is kept. I am so thankful there is much we have in common! Blessings, Angela
So beautiful. Thank you for the education.
Thank you for your ongoing sharing of your life and culture.
