Great choice after doing Tool. Gojira deserve a detailed exploration just as much. It's hard to pick what to recommend by them since they have so many good songs. Born for one thing, Grind, Space time, Ocean planet, Flying whales, Global warming, Oroborus, Wolf down the earth, Liquid fire, The gift of guilt, Born in winter, Magma, Lowlands, Pray (live at Red Rocks version), just to name a few.
Too many good choices! Gojira have been steadiy evolving and for me managed to retain their unique edge and distinct sound. If someone is especially into the more minimalistic, moody and experimental sides of Gojira, their performance of Blow me away you(niverse) from the Link Alive is in my opinion a complete and utter masterpiece that sounds unique even for Gojira
Just noticed nobody mentioned the reversed ending. It's a reverse of the melody from the next song on the track, esoteric surgery. The Art of Dying is about letting go of your material life & being content with your life before you die. The into is like the ticking over of life, then the demise happens and you get a sens of clarity on your life, the outro riff is the process of dying and the reverse ethereal melody is the soul leaving, perhaps finding peace elsewhere - so the music style/changes tell a story in of itself
Yes! I'm a latecomer to Gojira but it's one of my favourite bands. Great analysis, as usual. I would recommend The Heaviest Matter of the Universe or the live version of The Gift of Guilt at the Brixton Academy.
me too. i fell in love with these guys back sometime march/april 2021. perfect music for the gym. helps me get into this trance where i think nothing but doing sets
I am so happy you did this! Mario Duplantier is definitely a top drummer for me. Even in his drum solo videos, he tells an entire story with his drumming. No other instruments required. Joe Duplantier has so much tone in his vocals despite the aggression. He lost his voice for quite a while after his mother's death, but he has sounded much better recently. Overall very unique. At points the music gets sort of droney, but it always fits perfectly with the mood of the song. All around fantastic band and a great first choice for a song as well. Would love something from the album From Mars to Sirius as it's my favorite or L'Enfant Sauvage. 🤘
Well said. Joe's vocals are insane for me at so many levels. His voice is so brutal and angry on its own but he has this ability to deliver a soul crushing harmonies on top of all that. I would say it's a huge package of all emotions possible mixed with classic growls/screams. Love how he pulls all these sounds and energy during their live performances. Honestly I'm super thankful to have an opportunity to hear their music, attend to their shows. It's more than a band for me
I clicked quick! GREAT CHOICE for a Gojira song. It took me a bit to get into their sound, but the lyrics on this track really spoke to me. Can’t say I bump Gojira tracks often, but I can absolute appreciate their art and talent. Gift of Guilt is another track by them I recommend.
So....... Just like you, I slept on Gojira for a long time. I heard just a little bit of them here and there in the 2000s, along with a little bit more of them around 5 years ago. I liked what I heard, but was just into other things at the time. I finally decided to binge listen to their discography about a month before Fortitude came out, just to see what all the hubbbub was about. Since then, I probably spent about a thousand bucks on their concerts and their merchandise. It is the most I have spent on a band in my lifetime. I've been listening to metal off and on, but mostly on, for 40 years. I have not been as into a band since my teens, and wonder if having spent that kind of money, along with intending to spend more, by default makes them my of my favorite band of all time. It has probably been 20 to 25 years since I have liked the band enough to take the time to begin reading and memorizing all their lyrics. I really liked that you heard the Sabbath vibe. While I did not catch that, I have caught probably a dozen great bands from the past in their music. Motorhead, Metallica, morbid angel, Meshuggah....... I've even caught a sublime vibe and heard Nick hexum from 311 in his voice, along with even having caught vibes that remind me of video games such as Red Dead redemption and modern warfare in a couple of their songs. I could go on all day about them, but highly recommend you do what I did, which is stop sleeping on them. They have so many great songs and this one consistently fits in my top five. In any specific order, I would say these are the other four that round out the top five for me. You must react to more Gojira In the wilderness From the sky Mouth of Kala Inward movement from the link alive Subbing

Cheers! Great analysis and song choice, I remember recommending Gojira a while back and I don't mind the wait, it was definitely worth it ;) I think what I recommended then was the live performance of The Gift Of Guilt, and Born For One Thing. I still recommend those, and I'll add Born In Winter, it's a more mellow, eerie-feeling sound and I think it's great.
@@JWSoundworks2 awesome! I'll second Born in winter, a different and really really nice one. I like your reactions, hope I won't wait too long for those Gojira ones :) Cheers
I _love_ when people listening to a Gojira song for the first time and they _always_ pull what i can only describe as the "Gojira Stank Face" There are so many epic Gojira songs to do next...I'd say L'Enfant Sauvage, The Gift Of Guilt, Backbone, Oroborus, Into The Wilderness, Born In Winter...fuck there are so many
Man, i wish i could travel back to 2017 when i discovered this band. You keep finding new favourite songs with these guys, it’s incredible. You definitely have to check out some live stuff. They used to be death metal early 2000’s but became more and more progressive with time, which is fine, but their old stuff is next level. Some recommendations are Remembrance at The Link Alive, some pure old Gojira, or The Axe at Brixton Academy is also a good one to get into. Curious to see which kind of Gojira you will like better of the two as the videos are 10 years apart, and there are many many more epic Gojira tracks, it’s nuts. Cheers man!
So glad you got round to Gojira, they are something special and their catalogue is varied and deep (they've evolved their sound over the years). Here's my go to list of Gojira tracks for any new listeners and reactors. I might have tweaked the list if I was specifically tailoring for your musical intellect, but all in all this gives your a flavor of every album & picks up on their best work IMO. 3rd album: From mars to sirius - The heaviest matter in the universe (very heavy) - Flying whales (Gojira's signature track) - Where Dragons dwell (youtube: live at hellfest 2013 - a MUST see!!, don't miss out on this reaction) - Global warming (youtube: live studio) 4th album: The way of all flesh - Toxic Garbage Island - The art of dying (legendary track, glad you've ticked it off) - Vacuity - Wolf down the Earth / or / esoteric surgery 5th album: L'enfant sauvage - The gift of guilt (live Brixham academy) - L'enfant sauvage - Born in Winter - Explosia 6th album: Magma - Stranded - Silvera - Pray (live at red rocks only) - The cell / or / shooting star (live at bbc) 7th album: Fortitude - Born for one thing - Amazonia - Sphinx - Another World /or/ New Found 2nd album: The link - Embrace the world - Indians - Rememberance (live at Link Alive) 1st album: Terra incognita - Space time - Lizard skin / or /clone - Love (from 'link alive' ideally) / or / Blow Me Away (You)niverse
First time viewer here. Your intro was honestly pretty sweet. The mix of those proggy riffs with the piano gives me jazz-metal fusion vibes. As for Gojira... I think it's safe to say they're one of the pillars of modern metal, a band that honestly never disappoints and always stands as a source of inspiration.

“Intense energy” and “tension”… well said. Combine that musical ability with extremely passionate vocals/lyrics and you have Gojira. This is the song that pulled me into their orbit about four years ago. I’ve not missed a day since. Thank you for checking them out.
I don't know why, but watching you react feels like chatting with those of my childhood friends who played in bands and were really (and are) into music! Such a bunch of versatilely talented dudes, as we say in my country, "music has ruined a plenty of promising athletes" (it's a joke people, calm down..)!
Dude, you don't know what your missing with Gojira...my all time favourite band hands down. There's just to many amazing songs to list here that you need to check out.
I may have commented on this video before, but I periodically re-watch this just because it's kinda like watching myself jammin' to this. Best reaction to TAoD on the tube. What I like about your videos is that 1, you seriously immerse yourself in the music. 2, you expose me to new bands I've unfortunately never heard of with your "this reminds me of such and such feel" and 3, you bring my attention to sounds or relationships that I hadn't put together myself. Lastly, intro is fire, never skip it. Great stuff man. Cheers from NC, USA.
I just discovered Gojira about a year ago and they have quickly become one of my favorite bands. I've been living under that proverbial rock. The live version of Pray from Red Rocks still is one of my favorite Gojira tracks. Remembrance is also a great song.
If you fancy something a bit different from Gojira, check out A Sight To Behold. The arpeggiation in that is incredible. It’s like a mix of metal and Vivaldi.
“People in trees playing pan pipes” cannot move in Belfast without falling over them........LOL. As always I love the care and attention you pay to the song, and it’s production. They are amazing live, Mario is relentless and the rest of the band are super tight as well. I definitely get Mastodon vibes as well in places, no bad thing as I love Mastodon. Also love the Sabbath reference as Geezer and Bill were so underrated, jamming in the back.
Thank you very much for the support on bandcamp, Ian. Very kind of you! :) I couldn't help but wonder if anyone would get the irony of pipes and Belfast comment. In July we can hardly move for flautists everywhere! lol.
Gotta do Esoteric Surgery, one of my favorites and it's also the song that follows The Art of Dying. You have to hear how it drops in from this tune. Great video!
Love your reactions and insights, my man. I've gone pretty deep into UA-cam reactions and, while I enjoy the videos from non-musicians and people not as well-versed in extreme metal, there's an ability to contextualize and absorb the material on first listen that I enjoy about your reactions. Nice shirt, btw! I have the same one in short sleeve. I'll forever maintain that DiSalvo era Cryptopsy was some of the most exciting metal I've ever heard. Cheers!
Ocean planet, Heaviest Matter in the Universe, Flying Whales, This Emptiness, Planned Obsolescence, The Gift of Guilt, Oroborus are incredible tracks by them. I understand that you want to please the viewers, but what I generally see in reaction channels is that they play the most popular tracks by the bands and leave out the hidden gems. There are a few bangers in the songs I've listed that get looked over. Anyways, awesome content. Glad you're enjoying Gojira, I am a huge fan of them as well as Tool, which is my number 1 band.
Every single song you mentioned is an absolute yes. Especially Planned Obsolescence. And what you said about reactors is spot on.. the magic of Gojira is found in their complete discography.
Just wanted to say how much I enjoy your channel. Your detailed breakdowns and comments along with the understated humor are both informative and entertaining. I'm surprised you don't have thousands more followers already. Keep at it though and I'm certain more people will keep finding this channel! I'll hit up your Coffee link shortly!
Thank you, dude! Appreciate the kind words. I've been a little erratic with the uploads due to being busy in the real world, but hopefully I can keep more content trickling out, as that seems to help with the YT algorithm. :)
I'd watch you reacting to more Gojira! You have the vocabulary to describe what makes these songs great! I'd recommend their early works to understand where their sound evolved from. "Clone" and "Remembrance" are bangers!
Great reaction man, I never clicked so quickly on a reaction before! Gojira are one of my all time favorite bands and it is great to see one of my favorite reactor get into them. Their music, musicianship, creativity, writing, live shows and basically everything they do is amazing. Every member of the band is an absolute gem. So glad you did this one since the Gojira rabbit hole is a deep and highly satisfying one. Basically go with any suggestion provided in the comments here, I am not going to add my own because in my mind every Gojira song is worth listening and reacting to. :)
I absolutely love your take on this song! I've listened to it over a zillion times and it still gets to me. Gojira has a way of throttling you in the best way possible, I'm definitely a wee bit obsessed with them.
Nice reaction man! next for u must be '' the Way Of All Flesh '', its brutal first, then you fly to another world... riffs are amazing, and at the end you fall into the gojira spiritual guitar tapping...
Flying whales, heaviest matter in the universe, backbone. This band actually got me into death metal and I love them ever cents can’t wait for my music from them.
Awesome reaction bro !! I like your take on gojira and your understanding for music 🤘🤘 . Gojira is a very refreshing band , and they are amazing live as well
Nice review all the way through! Love the epic poster in the back of the beyond as well. Should you try more Gojira, have a go at the gift of guilt. Cheers!!
Having followed you for a little while now I can say wholeheartedly there is no one else on UA-cam I'd like to see be successful through this than you. I will post your channel everywhere I can because real UA-camrs like you deserve the success, not these vanity videos we see everywhere.
Immediate subscription on my behalf. I love hearing what you have to say and your breakdown of the song(: found myself not skipping through your commentary because I was genuinely interested in what you had to say. Please check out more of Gojira! I’ll be here lookin for it(:
Joe Duplantier (their vocalist) is a vocal monster, because among many things, the fact that the scream technique he uses is basically taking a note and screaming it REALLY hard is just... I don't know how he's done it for so long. The melody combined with sheer aggression makes for a wall of emotion. He has had to dial it back a bit in recent years, but he's still a beast. As for the drummer, that's his brother Mario. They're an insanely talented duo. Mario's drumming is unlike anything else I've heard (as far as how much emotion and feel he puts into it goes). The combination of their talents, plus the talents of the other members? There's really no word for it other than "impressive". Welcome to the world of Gojira!
Hey John 🤟🏻 Nice vibing to some Gojira with you while I finish my COVID sentence at home 😅 I actually never "really" listened to this song before myself so thanks for your insight. I enjoyed it as always 😁🔥
Just imagine a place to go in an alternative end of time, transcend time and space to go to a place beyond, nothing religious, just a place somewhere else, where there is no sadness, only peace after the pain that many times we feel in life. The end of this song is what that moment would sound like.
Thanks for this reaction/review. I sincerely think you will enjoy most of Gojira’s library. They are an amazing talented band with a very interesting history. Mario’s drumming is beyond description. Please, please do more Gojira.

Calling a song from 14 years ago refreshing!!!! Wait till he sees " Space Time" from Gojira!!!! One of the few metal bands that sound better live than in studio!!!!
Yes, Gojira, YES. Top band for me, right there with jinjer. It's another sound, another journey, but it's amazing. Mario, the drummer, is a beast. My recommendation would be any song of the album "Every song by Gojira" ;)
Funny you mentioned Mastodon. I think they did a tour with them and Gojira opened for them (they weren't as big as they are now, they were just becoming big at that time, I think it was around 2016). Here's a kind of funny story: I saw them live at a concert they did in Tijuana, Mexico. Somehow the venue screwed up and there was basically no marketing so the place didn't sell even half the tickets, more like a third for how empty the venue was. We were in line because the venue had an electronic music stage and you needed to be in line to enter where Suicidal Tendencies, Gojira and Mastodon were going to play so once they opened the doors everyone got in. Suicidal Tendencies played and it was ok, not many people left. But then Gojira played. It was a pretty bizarre concert. Everyone was so chill and I was thinking "hmm maybe they don't even know who Gojira is" but then when Gojira called out to the crowd almost everyone went crazy. It was like everyone just wanted to enjoy the concert and watch the guys play, didn't care much for slam or headbanging or anything. I got confirmation when Gojira finished their setlist and almost half of the people left, I stayed for Mastodon for one song, and me and my gf just looked at each other like "are we seriously gonna stay after that amazing show to watch these guys?" (we were there for Gojira). Don't get me wrong, Mastodon is ok, not a fan of them but Gojira was, and is, on another level in my opinion
also yeah, pretty sure Joe has some distortion on the vocals. There are stems for a song from that same album. I think Toxic Garbage Island and there's distortion in some parts of that song. It adds to de desperation in the verses in my opinion
Maybe some of their older work? Remembrance is a good one, vacuity is another good one. There is also a good dual song containing the songs “From mars” and “To Sirius” that paints a beautiful story
First Tool, then Gojira. If somehow you find the time to check out Orbit Culture this month then Christmas will indeed come early for me. Either way, I'm all for checking out Gojira's new album this year, it was easily one of my favorite albums to come out. These guys are legends, you are in for a killer ride.
Remembrance, Space Time, Love, Embrace the world, Clone (all in live in Furyfest2003), From Mars to Sirius (the album), The way of Flesh (all the album), l'Enfant Sauvage, Oroborus, the gift of guilt, Born in Winter, Magma, Silvera, Stranded, Low Lands, Amazonia, Born for one thing... This is chronogical and no hesitation to watch all in live... And the featuring with Devin Townsend, Fredrik Thordendal (from Meshuggah) "Of blood and salt" for "The Sea Shepherd"!!!!!! (i can't say more)
Fun Facts: - Joe Duplantier is one of the few Metal vocalists who can scream in pitch. I'm no expert on the matter, so I can't explain how it's done, but I like what I hear and that's good enough for me. : ) - Their heavy sound make many people think they tune very low but in fact the lowest tuning they use is D (someone correct me if I'm wrong). - You should also know that Mario Duplantier took 7 years of Jazz drumming lessons to become a better Metal drummer. One part of his practicing routine involves 1 hour of kick drums only, where he starts from a slow bpm and speeds up progressively until he reaches the maximum speed possible.
@@zachrabbit5463 - You're right, this song is in open C minor and it's probably the only open tuning song in their entire discography, the rest of the C tuning they use is drop C, in songs like Adoration For None, All The Tears, Born in Winter, L'Enfant Sauvage, Mouth of Kala, Planned Obsolescence, Shooting Star, The Way of All Flesh, Toxic Garbage Island or Vacuity. There, I just corrected my initial comment but still, the bulk of their work is either in D or drop D.
This song sounds exactly the same live as it does on the record, down to the growl-sung vocals. In fact I’d say they’re one of the few big bands (these guys are massive, they’ve played Red Rocks, the Rose Bowl, and Madison Square Garden) that sound better live than they do on the record
Tool then gojira very nice my man gotta love me some eco-metal. They have a powerful message that more and more people each year need to hear unfortunately

Lastly, intro is fire, never skip it. Great stuff man. Cheers from NC, USA.
Very kind words, thanks for sharing! Appreciate that! 🤘
@@thoronthol1175 It is unfortunate that a lot of good songs get overlooked. Their discography is incredible, it is difficult to find a “bad” song.
more gojira my friend.. really liked your reaction...
Thank you for the analysis, i was sick of most videos being like "oo ye thats heavy"
Earned a sub, great channel man
Thanks, bro! 🤘
@@JWSoundworks2 Yeah, newborns will do that!
the last breakdown of this song always gets me. its sounds/feels so euphoric like ecstacy
Great reaction to what is in my opinion the greatest metal song ever written. Great choice!
Brilliant reaction. Just found you and will now subscribe. Your knowledge and sheer joy of listening to music is so enjoyable to watch.
They opened for Opeth at that famous Red Rocks show. Their set is also worth seeing.
Good stuff!
Awesome reaction bro !! I like your take on gojira and your understanding for music 🤘🤘 . Gojira is a very refreshing band , and they are amazing live as well
Yes! Let's go! More Gojira Plz
Ahh really enjoyed this little breakdown and your analysis was interesting. Great work. Do more gojira! ☺️
I recommend Satan is a Lawyer by Gojira. Several layers of depth to that song. It’s great!

Very kind of you, David. Thank you for the kind words!
@@JWSoundworks2 A pleasure mate. Thoroughly enjoy your posts, and I still love your intro.. that is some solid musicianship!
It´s ALL about their ENERGY!!! Great analysis from a great band!!! GOJIRA RULESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Hey John 🤟🏻
Nice vibing to some Gojira with you while I finish my COVID sentence at home 😅 I actually never "really" listened to this song before myself so thanks for your insight. I enjoyed it as always 😁🔥
Hi! Hope you're feeling much better! You still in isolation?
@@JWSoundworks2 No got out yesterday ;)
Just imagine a place to go in an alternative end of time, transcend time and space to go to a place beyond, nothing religious, just a place somewhere else, where there is no sadness, only peace after the pain that many times we feel in life. The end of this song is what that moment would sound like.
Awesome reaction man, make sure to listen to The Gift Of Guilt live at Brixton
Thanks for this reaction/review. I sincerely think you will enjoy most of Gojira’s library. They are an amazing talented band with a very interesting history. Mario’s drumming is beyond description. Please, please do more Gojira.
This song absolutely slaps live

Where else but here would I get a Today's the Day reference? You rock man!
Either 'pray' from their red rocks 2017 show or gift of guilt live from Brixton. Gojira are mind blowing awesome. 🤘
Calling a song from 14 years ago refreshing!!!! Wait till he sees " Space Time" from Gojira!!!! One of the few metal bands that sound better live than in studio!!!!
10:27 My face every time I listen to this part.
A friend once described Joe Duplantier's singing as "If Lemmy Kilmister sang death metal instead of thrash, and was French"
What, where are you other Gojira reactions?
They have a lot of epic stuff, i think most of there numbers are epic ;o)
Maybe some of their older work? Remembrance is a good one, vacuity is another good one. There is also a good dual song containing the songs “From mars” and “To Sirius” that paints a beautiful story
One of the best band I have seen live, saw them supported by Car Bomb and Code Orange. So much energy and precision!
(i can't say more)
Definitely a need to get around to all of 2005’s “From Mars to Sirius” at some point (concept album). Their best all around work imo.
never thought about gojira and black sabbath comparison, but it has sth to it for real
Fun Facts:
- Joe Duplantier is one of the few Metal vocalists who can scream in pitch. I'm no expert on the matter, so I can't explain how it's done, but I like what I hear and that's good enough for me. : )
- Their heavy sound make many people think they tune very low but in fact the lowest tuning they use is D (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
- You should also know that Mario Duplantier took 7 years of Jazz drumming lessons to become a better Metal drummer. One part of his practicing routine involves 1 hour of kick drums only, where he starts from a slow bpm and speeds up progressively until he reaches the maximum speed possible.
They go to c standard pretty often this song is in open c I believe
Please more Gojira
with that epic intro Id be sinning if I don't subscribe
Gojira is Godzilla in Japanese.
You should react to “the way of all flesh”
The dijereedoo (way off on the spelling probably) is actually the vocalist throat singing.
please please do gift of guilt!!
Please react to more Gojira!!
You have to listen to Remembrance from the link alive.
You didn't get the Gojira slides in this one... Gotta listen to more I guess!
I wish i could listen Remembrance song both Studio version and Live 💫 together with you...
a difficult introduction to Gojira!! May I suggest "From The Sky". You get a concise track with awesome elements.
Recommendation: Satan in a Lawyer by Gojira
Tool then gojira very nice my man gotta love me some eco-metal. They have a powerful message that more and more people each year need to hear unfortunately
His vocals sound like punk or crust metal (gallhammer) to me. Which I like. Just my observation
I like the Black Sabbath comparison. Things that make you go hmmm 🤔
Vocals reminding me a bit of old Arch Enemy
🙏😎🤘
the gift of guilt will surprise you
Please please please check Opeth's newest album In Cauda Venenum if you haven't already. Great stuff!
