Clear and to the point! I get very impatient with videos that have a lot of extraneous chatter. Thanks for addressing precisely what I was looking for, and nothing more!
Thank you so much for making this video. I mean, I have looked everywhere for someone who can demonstrate how to do this sort of pearl knotting and now, finally, I've found you! This is great 👍. I just bought some beautiful Tigers Eye beads that I want to knot on Griffin Nylon thread, which doesn't stretch so much as the silk thread, so I'm going to get started. Thanks again, love from Amanda in Melbourne, Australia ❤ xox ❤
I will do a separate video to show how to start it. There is also a tutorial at www.lisayangjewelry.com/2018/10/perfect-pearl-and-bead-knotting-simple.html that has more information and step by step photos.
I like your video because I think hand knotting is the best and as you said the knots are well placed without space in between. I still am trying to figure out how you placed the clam shell. Your video is great! Tbanks
I am about to start bead knotting and this is the first tutorial that I came across. Bingo 👍🏻👍🏻 Can you tell me the amount of cord that I will need to string an 18 inch necklace? Is there a formula like??
Thank you for the video on the knotting technique. Very informative. I am disappointed you did not show how to start with the clam shell. I have no idea how to start the necklace.
I just added a new video on a great way to finish most beaded necklaces - especially these daisy flower chains. Please take a look. I hope it helps. ua-cam.com/video/qxiCsKW_1Qc/v-deo.html
@@LisaYangJewelry hi Lisa - thank you so much for posting your information. Do you have a finishing video for the double strand pearl tying you are demonstrating here? I’ve gotten lost at the end. 🤪
excellent tutorial. is the clam shell tip also a crimp cover? and is there a type of pearl i should look for that would be the right hole size for the doubled up size #2 string? thanks!
Dear mmedeuxchevaux, a clamshell tip goes over the knot at the end of your thread. So, when you double your thread and tie a knot at the end of your 2 threads, you will have a knot at one end and your needle will be on the loop at the other end. Does that make sense to you? You can buy the thread you need on a spool, and what you do is cut off a long piece and then take the 2 ends and bring them together. Then, use a collapsible eye needle 🪡 and thread it on. Now, take the ends and tie them together in an overhand knot. Take a clamshell and put your needle through it, so that the hook of the clamshell is facing towards the knotted ends of your thread. So you put the needle through the inside of the clamshell and slide the clamshell down to the ends, so that the clamshell is covering the knot. Do you get that?? I wish I could show you how to do it in person, because it is hard to imagine! My best advice is to buy a book on knotting, there are a LOT of them. And you'll pick it up in no time. Good luck sweetie, and let me know how you are going. Love from Amanda in Melbourne, Australia ❤ xox
would be helpful is you added source info about the very fine needle. Where do you get it, what's it called, etc. Also would like to see how you added the 'tip' and got the whole thing started. Thanks.
I have a post on my website that addresses some of these questions. Please have a look: www.lisayangjewelry.com/2018/10/perfect-pearl-and-bead-knotting-simple.html
@@LisaYangJewelry that sounds like surgical supplies. The needle comes pre-attached to suture thread for stitching up post surgery or closing a wound. Thank you for clearly explaining these details. I understand this better now. I'll visit your website to have a closer look. I appreciate your video, it's straight forward & to the point.
I looked through the comments to find something about how to gauge the length of the knotted string. Since it will be slightly shortened with the knotting, how do you know how long to make the string?
Hi Natalie, it's actually not a ball. It's like a ball that has been split in half! But, when you place the clamshell over the knot, then you use your chain nose pliers to gently squeeze the 2 halves of the ball or clamshell together ❤. I hope that helps you.
I used a size 2 thread for this technique so I could fit the thread through the holes twice. If I were knotting the ‘regular’ way I would use a size 4 silk or nylon. You’ll find details at this article on my website. www.lisayangjewelry.com/2018/10/perfect-pearl-and-bead-knotting-simple.html
I vary the way I do it and it depends on the type of thread I use. You can use bead tips (or cups) for nylon thread, crimp beads if you are using beading wire, or knotting if you are connecting to closed jump rings where the thread won't slip out. I like to make my own closures with a bead on one end and loop on the other. I'm working on a video for that.
Using an awl is a skill. It's very meditative once you master it. The problem is when you're still learning or just want to make a single bracelet and you're using an awl. You're almost done and make a knot too far away and ruin the whole darn project. This technique is an alternative that is easier with less risk of failure.
@LisaYangJewelry I've been in that position. Then my only option is to change up the pattern by slipping a larger hole bead over the knot and then continue.
Please look at the post on my website with pictures and details. I think it may help. www.lisayangjewelry.com/2018/10/perfect-pearl-and-bead-knotting-simple.html Thank you!
It looks the same as if one was using an awl or tool. I always get frustrated knotting with an awl, because I could do 15 great knots but then mess up during the middle and have to start over, cause once the knot is in place you can't Un knot it
These aren't your grandma's pearls! With so many colors and shapes, there's no reason to limit yourself to finishing pearls with french wire or using silk thread. Pearls look great on wire or leather and the dyed colors are fabulous. I think it's great to explore the options.

@@LisaYangJewelryand how to knot on the lobster clasp ?
Agreed!!
You have came up with an awesome and easy way to string pearls. Thank you so much for sharing.
I agree. It’s super easy to make the knots and have them in the right place. You just need to find the right size thread to make it work
You just changed my whole life!!! Thank you!
Straight to the point of the title. I found your video super helpful. Thank you so much!
Great! I'm glad it helped you.
Thank you so much for this video. Been beading for half my life and knots always intimidated me so it's nice to know the trick
There are lots of tricks. This is just one - but it is easy to follow. Glad it helped.
WOW. I like this technique. I wish you show from the beginning to end.
I will be adding a video to show how to start and finish the project with clam shell bead tips really soon (this week!), so check back for that.
@@LisaYangJewelryyou really should. I must say, these pearls are gorgeous

Great to hear!
Lisa you champion, thank you for your help
Thank you SO MUCH, always hated how the beads stretch the silk floss from the knots. Great 'trick'!
This was the best, easiest and sturdiest method of found. Thank you!
Great to hear! It's a little tricky finding the right size thread - but it works!
So ingenious. Love this foolproof method. Thanks.❤
Very elegant necklace.... As usual your tutorial is the best 👌👌
Very intelligent way ! I saw so many videos in youtube but ur way is THE BEST📣

thank you so much, why would you do it any other way. Makes total sense to me. Can't wait to try it out
Much less risk this way. I always hate when doing it the old fashioned way and a knot is too far from the bead. You have to start all over. Ugh.
Thank you for the video Lisa.
