    Chaturanga Dandasana (also called a yoga pushup) strengthens your arms and abdominals, preparing your body for inversions and arms balances. It’s one of the hardest yoga poses, resulting in shoulder injuries if done incorrectly over time, so feel free to modify.
    FIX 1
    From plank, shift your weight forward so your elbow is at a 90 degree angle over your wrist as you lower down.
    FIX 2
    Think of pulling up through your abs and legs so your shoulders stay in line with the elbows. Don’t let your chest sag toward to floor.
    FIX 3
    Keep your elbows close to your body, not spaying out to the side.
    FIX 4
    Drop your knees as your built strength in your abs and upper body. Better to modify than risk injury!

    Very helpful! I think Chaturanga is on the the hardest poses for me! I've gotten pretty consistent with the knees down version, and I can occasionally do the full version. It always makes my day when that happens!

    always rembermbering and concentrating on the baisc rules of chaturanga. as you say, it´s a popular but not easy pose!

    Been doing yoga this past yr to help me with strengh and overall fluidity as I age. I love it so much! I don't practice every day but when I am able to adding my sun salutations to my day start is so amazing! Moon salutations also are so good for me. I have a lot of bone issues in my feet and hips but yoga has become a part of my life truly. I try to stay active now and wow I love it thank you for your video 💜

    I went to a yoga studio for four months until she mentioned that I was doing this wrong, my nose was going all the way down to the floor lol more teachers should watch out if people can hurt themselves so easily. I knew they kept say half way but I though oh if I can go lower go lower like a push up !!

    Yay! I was able to do it correctly for the first time when I watched and followed this, but can't hold the pose too long maybe because I still can't carry my weight. But thank you very much Brett!

    thank you for the video! it would also be good to hear a bit about transitioning from plank to upward dog. like... arching too much in the back, craning the neck too much, what do you with feet (flip them over or not), pressing hips down? or forward?

      also... I was wondering if you had a good suggestion for an alternative to low lunge? resting my knee on the ground can be jarring/painful for the knee -- maybe I'm doing it wrong... but if you have an alternative pose suggestion that would be awesome to, thanks!

    so helpful! thank you😃 I have been doing practices with lots of chaturangas and some were out of alignment (i notice now) and now my right shoulder is aching a little. I will modify till the pain is gone 👌

      I agree!! Also working your way into that position helps too. I still do with knees to the floor and my arms are always shoulder length apart close to my core and I make sure I'm doing the vinyasa flow breath as I transition into chatarunga to upward dog/ cobra. Exhale as I lower down. Then pause. Then flow into my inhale as I go up into that upward dog stretch. Also not letting my head hyperextend up as I go into the upward dog. Omg it's a good feeling to open up your body with yoga truly
