It's sad to see trolls on here bullying her for the work she does. If people want ads and promotions in her show is their right to do so. You people are a bunch of punks who are empowered by being behind a screen.
The only downside I experienced as a child, despite owning a LaserActive with Sega Pak (US), was that Sega Mega CD was still region Locked but MegaLD games weren’t. Had we chose to get the TG-16 pak, the HU card would have been the only part region locked as the TG-CD/SuperCD-ROM² discs were region free (and so were the LaserRom² discs).
@@DanielBMS we got it in Colombia. And prior, my mum already had a large LaserVision/DiscoVision library of films. Along with VHS. But she was obsessed with cutting edge technology. And we also had the Karaoke pak
Welcome to the next episode of: Lady Decade talking about strange console stuff, that has got some pretty interesting backstory, but you havent heard of in your entire life, no matter how big of a retro console nerd you thought you were.
The Mighty BULLY MAGUIRE likes your channel ,, to be honest you are like a Wikipedia of unknown retro gaming history ,, one of the best gaming channels on UA-cam
Your videos are amazing. I keep up with a lot of gaming history myself, but you and Top Hat Gaming Mans videos are ridiculously educational. Didn't even know this thing existed. Great stuff!
I actually used to own that beast of a machine. I was into LD movies, then I saw this hook-up for Sega and I was already into Sega big, but never heard of this thing. MAN o MAN.... Caused more problems than I wanted- I loved how it worked all the SegaCD games, and the few of whole LD machine games, but when the LD player goes dead- good luck at finding parts you need.
As a kid, I read about the Laser Active in EGM'S Annual Buying Guide. I never knew it was the result of Sega & Pioneer working on an LD Add-On for the Mega Drive. Thank you.
I remember reading about the Pioneer Laser Active system in an audio/video magazine shortly before it was to be released in the US. I seemed like a neat idea for someone who wanted to get into LDs and do more with what was a decent LD player until I saw the price. Laser Disc players were already expensive compared to a decent hi-fi capable VHS VCR but the cost of that thing was absolutely insane! Was not at all surprised when it came and went with hardly anyone noticing. I think I even saw it once being sold in one of those half hour paid advertising spots for $500 US with either a Genesis or TG-16 module included. Probably a last gasp to try and blow out remaining inventory. Also, I'm not sure if this is intentional but the audio in the sponsor portion of the video is a lot louder than the rest of the video. Especially for anyone wearing headphones.
LOL Wayne's World :D Another great video. I've seen many random Sega hardware on your channel that I never knew existed. I did know about this one though but didn't know much about it.
Although I have a laseractive and the megadrive module but this is the first time I know it plays sega cd games :) Would love to see episodes about the Nemo and the Halcyon, I always think I know everything that's to know about those uncommon/cancelled consoles yet you never cease to amaze :)
Now there is a rare system! I've only seen a Lazeractive at HH Gregg appliance store when I was 17. It was demonstrating Siplheed. If I was going to buy a luxury system back then it was a NeoGeo mvs.
After watching a few of Lady Decade's videos on Sega I've come to the conclusion it's amazing Sega were in the console business for as long as they were.
I had a sega system and had the CD and even the 32X. I also actually had a laserdisc player in my room as a child/teenager lol. As a very young child we had VHS, Beta Max, and Laserdisc. On the west coast of the US, at least in Alaska, it was relatively cheap to get Laserdiscs, cheaper than VHS honestly. You may not realize this but in the US in the early to mid 80's an official VHS copy of a movie could run from $65 to $80 a movie at the time. That's why video rental places were popular.
Looooooooongtime laserdisc laserdork here, so learning more about anything laserdisc greatly excites me. :) I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the LaserActive had a toaster oven module in development as well. That too, would be PIONEERing :D
I knew about the lazer active system, but not the fact that Sega was working on a Laserdisc add on of their own! I like this channel because I get to learn about retro hardware I never knew existed, even as my 40 year old arse grew up during this same period!
The laserdisc wasn’t a bad idea, but the size and the CD killed it way before the dvd. In the 80’s and 90’s, video games had crazy ideas with crazy prices, since then only the Panasonic GameCube was a crazy price in the 2000’s. Great video.
I saw a video from MachoNachos production about a mod for his Sega Mega LD and I had to know the history of this thing cause I have never heard of it before. Holy crap this thing seems so neat and weird. Great work breaking things down.
Now that pretty much everyone has hardware that can handle laserdisc quality video, I would love to see a collection of Sega's LD games come out. I love the Sega/Mega CD, but that color limit really shows its age.
This channel keeps getting better and better, lots of obscure stories I never heard about before. Excellent documentation exercise, congrats Lady Decade
I've owned a LaserActive since the early 90's. I got a floor model for about $600 w/ the Mega LD add-on and a few games. It was the 1st personal loan I ever took out
Recently picked up a Pioneer CLD-A100 at a swap market for $20 usd. Was not working, currently having it recapped by a professional. Really hope that fixes it! this is an amazing piece of gaming history.
I like this format. Edutainment with a few puns thrown in, it's good! A few weeks back you tried some super weird humor that took me out of the info, but this is a great return to form, ensuring these informational pieces can stand the test of time
I found a laseractive at goodwill with the sega pac installed its the American version could not believe how much money it was worth looking at eBay prices the huge thing is now the king of my console collection crazy only 10,000 were made
I saw the Time Traveler Holographic Arcade Machine back in the days when it was in ARCADES. I forget where. Also: Just IMAGINE if those video game back then ACTUALLY did THAT TO YOU which they had advertised?!?!?! That would have been SUPER MEGA dangerous. X' - D
Amazing to think about, if this worked out back then. How Sega's library would have pushed the hardware. Bummer it fell apart (also its cost might have been a headache too)
The quality of the system is insane. The price was also insane. The games were...well LD games. The mega cd feature though really extended the library. It was never ment to be sold in volume as-is.
Ooh, that NEMO/ControlVision tease. The NEMO is the one prototype I'm most waiting to surface, particularly after obtaining a ViewMaster Interactive and Disney Arcade and getting just a taste of what the Hasbro console might have done. And I learned about a year ago that a Police Academy game was planned for the console that got so far as having all the video shot. (The video supposedly being in the possession of lead developer Mark Termell [NBA Jam]). The technology on the device sounded impressive using a video buffer that would have held multiple frames indefinitely and manipulating the interlace to carry multiple images in the same frame of video.
Sometime between 78 and 82 my mom would ask me to go rent a laser disk and videos to watch. Damn thing was heavy as hell and the disks were ridiculous. Her money, her call. I hated those machines but loved my mother.
Ahhh, our favorite "hired actor" uploaded again! I don't know what the gaming illuminati is paying you but it's not enough. Ask for a new contact because you deserve it! Lol
Hey I can confirm when I chatted with Al Nielsen at the Portland Retro Gaming Convention in 2014 this was going to be a thing. Instead we got the Laseractive (which I am a proud owner of).
this reminds me of a bootleg mega drive system that could also play dvds. it was essentially dvd player with build in roms. i only saw that in a brochure and it was sometime when ps2 was present as a current system
How about a video about that strange late 2000s trend of handheld mega drive knock offs. I remember I bought one in HMV (may it rest in peace) and it had some pretty decent titles on it. A couple of sonics, eswat and that kind of thing
Who else clicked through hoping for a picture of a Genesis/Mega Drive with a 32X and Power Base Converter on top of a SegaCD, all also on top of a LD player, possibly with a Game Genie and a cart plugged into it at the same time?

the ad was really loud, maybe normalize the audio a bit next time?
LOL at the Wayne's World reference. 😆 Her sense of humor is definitely one of the reasons i subscribed

Had we chose to get the TG-16 pak, the HU card would have been the only part region locked as the TG-CD/SuperCD-ROM² discs were region free (and so were the LaserRom² discs).
You are quite interesting. Were your parents sold on the laserdisc playability?

A video on how and why Sega decided to launch the SG-1000 in Australia and NZ of all places (along with Japan) would be really interesting!

Hello Lady ! I’m writing from France. Your stories are very interesting ! Thank you very much !
So would it have been Sonic LD instead of Sonic CD? Lol Also, it's a shame that we could've had an LP sized Sonic CD disc and cover!
It's Sega. You'd have had both.
