Really great rides, Timothy. Nice stick articulation, clear bells (without being shrill), and sonically controlled... visually appealing, too. Well done!

When you crashed the Brazilian bronze version it just brought a smile to your face every time…must be a joy to play :)

That's what I had in mind when I bought the cymbal you just worked on. You're killing it Timothy.

Damn, I’m really digging these! Looks almost like the Bosphorus Black Pearl, but with way more definition. Probably my favorite I’ve seen of your brand so far!

Hey these look great sound killer love the stick sound nice bells . Love the middle one and the trashy crashes ! Reminds me of Jack DeJohnette Bill Stewart ! Followed Roberto Spizzichino for years love the art and thank you for continuing to keep this alive! Your hammering is insane. Love 22 they are controllable and perfect in 2200 to 2400 gr or so range ! Nice work they all sound stellar! Elvin used heavy 20s w rivet’s . I think Tony’s 22 was in 2700 range . I tend to like 22 around 2300 - 2400 gr but even then might have to mic it to cut thru in amplification. Love your work ! I tend to like Turk types lighter and airy maybe adding rivets for little extra wash spread. The older guys seemed to use old Istanbul Ks so they were little heavier. Your onto something ha ha also depends on tapper weight distribution bell size. Keep up the amazing work.

Thank you! You're right about all of this! A Jack/Bill hybrid is the PERFECT way to describe what I'm going for with these.

These all sound great, but I'm especially impressed by the 22" and 21" on the right, and-my fave-the Brazilian one you pulled out at the end. Keep that in mind for when I do my commissions!

As a new drummer, I find the science of cymbal making interesting and helpful! 👍

That’s probably one of the best sounding 24’s I’ve ever heard. All are lovely. Great work yet again Sir.

You bake a mean pie, Tim... I feel like unlathed tends to be drier in terms of *overtones*, but not necessarily in terms of *sustain*. Despite the unlathing, the Paiste Dark Energy rides have pretty dry overtones, but are actually quite sustaining and loud (like pretty much ALL Paiste rides, and why I tend to dislike them lol). Although, the Mk.ii's sound incredible in the right setting. In an environment where the sound has some space to get away from you a bit, Paiste rides don't sound so harsh.

I like the direction you're going recently with these and the other work you're doing!
I love sitting behind my kit in my basement in love with my cymbals, but if they're hard to use in a gig....what's it all for? :)
Besides having fun ...which is great of course.

These sound sweet! Interesting about the Brazilian, Turkish and other foundries differences. Very cool that you are evolving as a craftsman. A necessary part of life!

I love your videos because of the cymbal-smith wisdom you share. I wish you would have shown the underside of the cymbals, though! Are they lathed like the Istanbul legend dark series? I love the articulation you get out of dry cymbals, and I play my dry cymbals often. I have a heavier (that what is produced now) Vezir that I added steel rivets to. They give it some sustain without too much wash, and I am able to use it everywhere because it allows the notes to maintain their body. Medium-weight rides, to me, are the best of both worlds when it comes to delivering low pitch sounds with a clear ping. I like thin crashes and medium rides. These are very gorgeous cymbals, and I would love to own one someday!

Thanks! Some are lathed and others aren’t. All of the ones in this video have fully lathed bottoms.

Those are Very Impressive Sounds. I could make those work in a death metal group actually. Oh Yeah. Especially with studio mic. Dry, Airy Wash with just enough 'Moisture' still there would be that main ax ride in the middle. Used as a crash/ effect cymbal with stick and mallet for overdubs? Quite Dramatic dark sound. Pretty much in any studio situation for lower volume and loud dark music those would work wonders. That's another application for things like those folks don't talk about much. For live work yeah they'd be a bit whispy/ light. Great 'Dark Wind Maker' for studio work. With some smokiness in there. Nice!!

Killer! I don't play those styles so I'd have no idea, but that's great!

  • @nayrdrumr

The ride on the far right is amazing! Question though.. are you talking about the thinner dark cymbals with more wash not cutting even in close mic live situations? I've been trying to, as you said, pick cymbals to suit my band from the audience and full band mix over behind the kit. Thanks

    • @ReverieDrumCo
      @ReverieDrumCo  4 місяці тому +1

It really depends. If they are thin and washy and the sound engineer doesn't know how to properly mix them, then they will still get lost and not translated well. A good engineer is essential if you're using thin cymbals in a live situation.
