    Many people eat right exercise and still have weight issues. Find out how to test yourself to see if it's your thyroid, and what to do about it. Learn how too much iodine can actually be dangerous or deadly. Also learn about the importance of the liver and how to clean it.There are many things that can cause the body to gain weight. Having unhealthy adrenals, pituitary dysfunction, or thyroid issues are just to name a few. If we think our thyroid is the issue having a blood test is not as accurate as you may think. You should first verify your body’s Basal Body Temperature. If the results indicate a temperature of less than 97.6 then you should move forward to a remedy for your thyroid. There are numerous reasons a thyroid could be malfunctioning. Keeping your liver clean is very important in maintaining a healthy thyroid. Keeping your body clean by eating natural foods will go a long way in managing your weight and keeping your Thyroid and all the other systems of your body functioning properly.
    Basal Body Temperature is better method to test for Thyroid is issues than the traditional blood test.
    www.thyroidscience.com/studies...
    Abstract. …Today many alternative/complementary physicians consider a low basal body temperature an objective indication of hypothyroidism when the patient has symptoms
    characteristic of the disorder. The patient’s low temperatures and low RMR values indicate that their oxidative metabolism and heat-generating enzyme systems were inadequately regulated by thyroid hormone…
    High Estrogen will damage your Thyroid
    www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti...
    Abstract. There are evidences that estrogen may have direct actions in human thyroid cells by ER-dependent mechanisms or not, modulating proliferation, and function. Different patterns of distribution, expression, and ratios of ERα and ERβ may have a role in thyroid cancer cells proliferation, as well as in the outcome of thyroid cancer.
    Liver helps regulate estrogen for the body…and performs other functions which helps Thyroid
    europepmc.org/abstract/med/661...
    Close relationships exist between the liver and the thyroid. The liver is important in the transport, metabolism, storage and excretion of thyroid hormones as well as being an important site for hormone activity. Liver disease alters thyroid function and thyroid function tests at all levels of the hypothalamic-pituitary-peripheral axis.
    What can we do to keep the Liver healthy? …plant foods, bitters..
    www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti...
    Abstract. …Plants food is an essential part of the human diet and comprises various compounds which are closely related to liver health…
    …Other hepatoprotective plant foods from wild and semidomesticated origin consist of amaranth, Aralia elata Seem, asparagus, balloonflower root, buckwheat, capillary wormwood, celery, chestnut, Chinese chive, Chinese small iris, Chinese toon, heartleaf , cress, dandelion, daylily, devil's tongue, hawthorn, hazelnut, kelp, kiwi fruit, longan, longstamen onion bulb, lotus root, mango…
    Weight issues boil down to cleaning out your body
    www.nature.com/ijo/journal/v30...
    Abstract. Multivariable-adjusted mean weight gain was somewhat smaller in vegans…
    Too much Iodine can be harmful
    www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2...
    Abstract. Large amounts of iodine can induce hypokalemic thyrotoxic paralysis and it may be necessary to inquire about the ingestion of iatrogenic iodine compounds, such as Salicornia herbacea.

    To help reverse Hypo Thyroid Video Notes: Basically low doses of iodine (aound 1 mg a day - can get from seaweed), slowly and regularly detox your liver, drink more water, and over all - Markus sums it up nicely in the end - quit eating the unhealthy foods and living the unhealthy lifestyle and the body will start to regulate again. Thank you both for this video! Also, I would love to see a video or any information/advice on healing myopia (or nearsightedness). Light and Love!

    Hypothyroidism sufferers should avoid stress at all costs, no matter physical (exercise, overwork, unhealthy diets), emotional (family/work/society) and spiritual (extreme fundamentalists; blamers; sinners, egoists). Esp. women, now become the cross-bearers of this modern world instead of nurturers. Females, with their delicate hormones, suffer probably in 1 day stress levels their grannies suffer their lifetimes. Thanks for the scientific facts but remember we're physical, emotional and spiritual beings ascending into a very refined era.

    Thank you Markus,I've suffered from slow metabolism/thyroid problems for years now..my GP is not much help! I have ALL the symptoms: I'm naturally skinny but I've gained weight though I eat a healthy/vegan diet, feeling cold;hair loss; chronic fatigue etc..
    So..this video is a God sent! I also suffer from anemia. Other than that I'm in excellent shape. -Planning to see a ND/Homeopathic doctor, instead of my GP who just KEEPS doing blood test after blood test and gives me high dosages of Iodine tablets. He WON'T check my thyroid though my metabolic rate is under 3-it's supposed to be over 10.. :/

    • @Hveragerthi
      @Hveragerthi 9 років тому +1

      Yes, I am a big supporter of maintaining the adrenals. Many people do not realize how much they do for the body and how essential they are. Yet so many people are constantly crashing them with stimulants like caffeine and nicotine as well as from stress. Other causes of adrenal dysfunction include the use of steroids, including steroidal medications, and the use of adrenal glandulars. See:

      Hveragerthi Hey James, thanks for the reply and the links, very helpful. I have a Pantothenic Acid Powder at home but haven't tried it yet. Is it ok to take it or is it essential to get the B5 from a natural source like with Vitamin C. And would you recommend doing a juice fast if someone has adrenal and/or thyroid issues?

    • @Hveragerthi
      @Hveragerthi 9 років тому +2

      I do prefer natural sources whenever possible. Pollen is the highest herbal source of pantothenic acid. This will also provide other B vitamins since B vitamins are best taken together as opposed to individual isolates.
      For vitamin C food sources include mango, papaya, kiwi, citrus, berries and peppers. My favorite herbal sources include acerola cherry, rosehips and amla berry (Indian gooseberry).
      There is no reason to do a juice fast and if you do again it is important though to keep the fiber in the juice to prevent blood sugar spikes. The herbs and foods I mentioned previously will to the best for supporting the adrenals along with avoiding stimulants and reducing stress.
      Thyroid issues are more complicated since there are so many things that can lead to thyroid issues. And some plants such as cruciferous vegetables are very goitrogenic raw. But again some seaweed in the diet can help counter the goitrogenic effect of these plants.
      If your adrenals are sub par I recommend working on those first since poor adrenal function is one of the things that lead to hypothyroidism.

    Hi Markus! I have every single one of the symptoms he mentions, dry brittle hair, hair loss, dry skin, extreme tiredness and have suspected I've had hypothyroidism for some time. My lab work, however, sometimes shows slight elevation and sometimes normal levels. My symptoms seem to tell the story, though. My question was what about iodized salt? I eat salt a lot & was wondering if consumers like myself are getting too much iodine through our heavy salt intake? Is the iodine in salt too much? If I eat dandelion greens will that level it out? How much would I need to eat in order to clean out my liver & reset my thyroid? Thanks for your help!

      Remember to watch your iodine intake. Toxicity starts at 1mg daily and you have to factor in dietary and supplement sources you may also be getting such as milk, seafoods, multivitamins, etc.

  • @TheEffini
    @TheEffini 9 років тому +17

    Hi James. One of the things you didn't talk about was selenium. Some research has shown that supplementing higher doses of Iodine without sufficient selenium (200-400mcg/day) can be the root cause of Iodine-induced hypothyroidism. Any thoughts on this hypothesis?

    • @SolarisKane
      @SolarisKane 6 років тому +2

      You are absolutely correct, this is something James Sloane doesn't realize, despite his brilliance elsewhere. Lugol's iodine is quite safe IF you also take the companion nutrients most especially selenium and a b-complex vitamin. I cured my mom's Hashimoto's with the iodine protocol, 100mg a day of lugol's iodine.

    • @Hveragerthi
      @Hveragerthi 6 років тому +7

      Lugol's is not necessarily safe. It all depends on dosage. Excess iodine from any source, including Lugol's, can have adverse effects. And toxicity from iodine, which has a relatively long half life in the body, starts at 1mg daily.
      Secondly, selenium is also a TRACE element in the body and most people get plenty in diet. If you were deficient one o the main symptoms that would be noticeable right away is muscle wasting. Do we see an epidemic of muscle wasting from selenium deficiency? NO!! Why because selenium is rarely in deficiency to begin with.
      www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12766976
      Also the use of supplemental selenium is questionable. In this study there was no benefit on thyroid function:
      www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18258627?dopt=Abstract
      It is possible that as I pointed out we tend to get sufficient selenium in diet and thus when the body already has sufficient levels any more simply provides no benefit.
      On the other hand an excess of selenium, which again is a TRACE ELEMENT in the body just like iodine can lead to various adverse effects. These include hair and nail loss, neurological disorders to name a few.
      And even if you have sufficient levels of iodine and selenium this still does not mean the thyroid is going to function 100% properly. As with so many health issues there is so much more involved than most people realize and that can rarely be covered in these short videos.
      For example what about adrenal function and thus cortisol levels that regulate thyroid hormone levels? What about cyclic adenosine monophosphate levels and cyclic adenosine monophosphate phosphodiesterase and inhibitors? What about rT3 levels? What about autoimmune reactions? What about goitrogens such as flax seed that suppress thyroid function? What about halogen exposure from things like salt and fluoridated toothpaste? Etc.
      Same applies to the B vitamins that are rarely in deficiency.
      And what about all the other essential nutrients you are overlooking such as tyrosine, which is part of the backbone for thyroid hormones. Or zinc also needed for thyroid hormone formation? Or iron to regulate rT3 formation? Or the various other vitamins you failed to mention:
      journals.viamedica.pl/endokrynologia_polska/article/viewFile/25263/20092
      What about getting in to the NUMEROUS factors that can lead to depletion of these nutrients?
      And let's not forget the role of endogenous and exogenous estrogens also known to inhibit the thyroid.
      Wow, you overlooked so many other factors involved in thyroid function. So don't complain if they are not covered in a short video. To cover all the factors potentially involved and explanations of all would take quite a long video that most people would fall asleep before reaching the end.

    • @maggnet4829
      @maggnet4829 2 роки тому

      @@Hveragerthi I think your point are quite valid. Though I feel you miss a bit the argument that was made. The argument was, that if you take higher doses of iodine, your normal intake levels of selene and certain vitamin b are not high enough and thus the iodine can cause problem in the body. To counter that you have to increase your intake of those.
      PS: I can not judge if that is true, but I have the impressionen your answer wasn't precisely enough adressing this point. You are just arguing that we usually (without bringing high amounts of iodine into the game) don't have a lack of selene and vitamin b.

    hey i just had a thought while i was rinsing my kelp this afternoon - theres these snail shells that come off with rinsing, like are there worm eggs on there? parasites?? if so how to clean them off -
    if i wanna eat *raw* kelp, or use it for skin moisturizing, something like that - whats the risk of infestation from say, the semi-dried kind you find in the health food store, like maine coast brand, or others?
    are there other ingredients if the dried salt content isnt enough to kill what parasites might be there still - that i could add, so the risk if it exists, would be lowered? thx
    [i usually soak repeatedly and try to rub those round looking slimy shell things off the best i can, but i cant get all of them]

      @@sl4983 Sorry thats an older kinda ignorant comment I made then, but basically, id not worry.
      For me it was from a sealed package on the shelf for probably some weeks before i purchased, and seaweeds have high natural mineral salts inside, which very likely destroy any parasitic life hanging out in there.
      I also tended to get that issue more with atlantic laver and dulse, than with kelp.

    Wow, I had no idea digestive bitters were so good for you. Going to have to get some. But, regarding iodine supplementation. Some doctors, like David Brownstein have pointed out that Japanese people get about 13 mg in their average diet, per day, from eating seaweed, etc. So he recommends higher doses than you are recommending. Thoughts on that? Also, I had chemotherapy years ago. I'm assuming some of those fat-soluble toxins might still be in me. Would the bitters help get that out of my liver?

    • @Hveragerthi
      @Hveragerthi 8 років тому +8

      Jason Fella: "Some doctors, like David Brownstein have pointed out that Japanese people get about 13 mg in their average diet, per day, from eating seaweed, etc."
      That is a complete myth. Research has shown that the average iodine consumption by the Japanese is only about 3mg daily, way below what Brownstein is claiming.
      And there is still more to this that Brownstein and others are overlooking.
      First of all is the fact that most of that iodine is coming from seafoods, which also contain a lot of sodium chloride, bromine and fluoride all of which displace iodine,
      And the Japanese also consume a lot of starches in their diet, such as rice. Starches bind to iodine rendering it unavailable to the body.
      Therefore, the actual amount of available and usable iodine in the Japanese diet would likely be less than 1mg daily, which is a safe level since iodine toxicity can start with as little as 1mg daily.

      Read my earlier response to another poster about coming off thyroid medications. People must be very careful coming off thyroid medication, especially if they have been on it for a while.
      Since Hashimoto's is autoimmune I also recommend focusing on your adrenals as well since the adrenals help modulate immune responses. Here is some info on supporting the adrenals:

      Yes, you can OD on iodine. This is what killed a friend of mine. The excess iodine put him in to such as severe state of hypothyroidism that he was even too weak to swallow small amounts of water being given to him by a spoon and I found him dead several hours later.

    Markus do you have a link on liver if our phosphate is to high? Mine is way elevated, along with liver enzymes? I got lupus and they say it cud be attacking it. Thank u. God blesz you and family

    • @Hveragerthi
      @Hveragerthi 6 років тому +1

      Have they determined why your phosphorus levels are so high? There are various causes, usually kidney damage, but can also be from muscle damage, hypoparathyroidism, excessive vitamin D, etc.
      "Liver enzymes", which are not necessarily liver enzymes as they are also released by damage to other organs, is not likely related. These enzymes can also go up for a variety of reasons including many medications including NSAIDs (aspirin, ibuprofen, celecoxib, naproxen, etc.), heavy exercise, any form of infectious or non-infectious hepatitis, certain viral infections, alcohol use, Celiac, etc. Elevated ALT and AST can also occur from non-liver associated problems as I mentioned such as heart attack, muscle injury, hypothyroidism (more common in women), etc. This is why doctors should NEVER go by a single ALT/AST test. They should wait at least 6 months to test again to see if there is a persistent elevation in the enzymes and in the meantime rule out other possible causes such as NSAID use or hypothyroidism.
      It is possible that the lupus is causing the high phosphate due to kidney damage. Muscle breakdown from the lupus adversely affecting the joint making movement difficult could be affecting the ALT/AST levels.

    Markus, any thoughts on the original recipe for Swedish Bitters, i.e. the herbs in alcohol versus the newer versions without the alcohol in the herbal tonic? I heard James Sloane mention it and, without thinking, bought the stuff in the original formula alcohol prep. I’m not a drinker, but went ahead and used it to immediately start for further detoxifying my liver. I know it’s a relatively nominal amount of alcohol when you consider that you’re taking it by the teaspoon, but.. I also read some criticism of the new alcohol-free formulas, with the original formula “purists” arguing that the first formula with alcohol is still the right way to go. Any thoughts? I’m still taking it.
