Very excited to see this return to form. I liked Moonward, don't get me wrong, but this is the kind of shit that got me hooked on Midst. I just love the back-and-forth descriptions, the razor-sharp pacing, all of it. And the soundtrack? Xen's bringing the heavy artillery with this one. Each track got me completely immersed, especially when introducing the new characters. Off to a flawless start, excited to see where the ship takes us...
AAAA I am so hyped for Unend!! 🎉 I wasn't sure whether we would be seeing Midst at all in this story, but clearly I shouldn't have doubted! It's so cool to hear how Stationary Hill has grown from a fledgling town into an entire metropolitan city - and I love how it's still described in the same terms ("a bustling scene of progress and industry and human endeavor") that Weepe used to describe the town to Imelda, once upon a time. I'm also very 🥺 about details like the Black Candle being renamed after Saskia, and effects of the tearror having become local landmarks/features (like Patricia's infinite bread now being a restaurant staple, lol). I immediately like both the Granddaughter and Mother Artifice, and their respective speaking volumes of ᶦ ⁿᵉᵉᵈ ᵗᵒ ᵇᵘʸ ᵃ ʰᵃᵗ and '𝐈 𝐒𝐄𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐎𝐁𝐓𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐃 𝐀 𝐆𝐈𝐀𝐍𝐓 𝐇𝐀𝐓'. They seem like they're going to be such a fun duo. 😂
I just looked up the meaning. "clever or cunning devices or expedients, especially as used to trick or deceive others." Expedient seems to have meaning in the context of the show too, seeing as it's called Unend. "A means of attaining an end, especially one that is convenient but possibly improper or immoral." It's possible the ship IS an expedient, and Mother Artifice is aware of that. After all, it's strange that the moon's claimed by a dark baron, and then recovered without issue thirty years later.
Ya know this whole episode is basically just fan service to all the Midst fans. But also I'm totally living for it . Seeing that the Trusts pneumatic tubes and beads just decided to become a tree is a treat

It finally hit my brain what this whole cosmos reminds me of. White Dwarf, a 2 hour long pilot of a TV show on Fox when I was a kid. The show didn't get picked up but the imagery and some of the plot has always stuck with me.

Also, "Realization" is such an interesting concept, as well as solid confirmation that Mothers don't get sustenance from food😅 I'm so excited to learn more about the workings of the Mothers through the Granddaughter and Mother Artifice. But also... What? No cleaned captions? No appendices? You wound me Third Person.
Anyone else get Wallace Michael Shawn vibes from Mother Artifice? (The "Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!" guy from Princess Bride for those not familiar with the actor.)
