Ashley's little picture of Sam on the table for the past few months takes on a whole different meaning all of a sudden. So happy you are better, Sam. You're literally the best.
And now we know why they got so emotional when he returned. Not simply because he was gone for a while, but because he was very unwell, and he is better now.
Whats crazier is he may never have that range of voices anymore. I hop he gets he old mojo back, but we may have to say bye to alot of his iconic voices if they strain his condition
I know this is a very emotional moment, but do you think Sam ever had to show doctors that one ad-read he did where he shoved a bunch of stuff in his mouth? No but seriously we all hope for the smoothest of recoveries for you, Sam! ❤
This also puts a whole different perspective on FCG's sacrifice and the cast emotions, why the cast was so emotional when he came back in the live show, and why his voice felt different. So glad he's recovering and back.
@f.faucon6681 I'm starting to feel like the only person who didn't notice that his voice was different at the live show! Although historically I don't always pick up on changes like that 🤷♀️
@@f.faucon6681 I was wondering why his voice sounded different in the live-show too, but honestly after still being fresh in recovery I'm in awe that he could get up and perform at such a large event!
I hope I can speak for all critters and say that while having Sam back is a blessing, having him be healthy and happy is of the utmost importance. If there's anything anyone can do, any support than can be offered, I hope Sam knows he has it in spades. Love you, Sam!
For those who didn't notice, when Sam introduced his new character he had a neck wound and he was dying asking for his friends to help heal him, absolutely amazing acting Sam. I hope you continue to heal.
It was a brilliant move to cover up his medical issue, which he understandably wouldn't have wanted to reveal at the life show. Amazing commitment of Sam to do the life show in that state when he is still struggeling with his voice like that as we saw in just that 5 minute bit. Not so much "amazing acting", since it turns out all that throat wound related stuff was much less of an act and more an issue of him actually still struggeling to speak.
After losing a bit of his voice/throat/tongue functionality especially, Sam still chose to play another talkative bard with a gruff accent. He's didn't just beat cancer, he's rising above it and didn't let it limit his choices. You are the best of us Sam Riegel. Hope your recovery is as easy as being a lovable human being that you are.
when i first saw laura say " im gonna cry" and her and ashley both cried when sam came back during the live show, i just thought they were happy to finally play with their friend again. To hear this, to see they all went through this with him and saw his hardest days. I get now it meant something so much more to them, because they knew everything he went through to get back on that stage. They must of been so proud of him. Our Faithful Care Giver 💛
I started cheering when he walked on stage for the liveshow, but at that time had no idea what he'd been dealing with. What a sweet moment that must have been!
Makes me even more frustrated at the people that kept complaining again and again all over the chat and on social media about Sam still not being back yet, and demanding answers from the rest of the cast because "your fans made you popular, you owe them explanations". As if the others were going to tell the world such a personal thing as "Sam is battling cancer" until the moment Sam himself was ready to reveal such.
When my daughter had cancer eight years ago Sam and other members of the CR cast sent messages of support and shared links that meant so much to our family. I'm so glad Sam received successful treatment and that we have medical technology to both cure and - more importantly, prevent - this type of cancer. Take care of yourselves and your loved ones, people.
When he returned in the live show his character had a wound on his throat and was gasping for air. The thought behind that is kind of poetic if you ask me. Swift recovery Sam and keep strong!
More practical than poetic. The throat wound of the character was obviously a narrative choice to make it look as if Sam was just roleplaying the character's wounded state when he actually had problems with his voice. He had to pause and take a sip of water twice in this short speach here. If he had played a character who didn't have a narrative reason for his voice failing occasionally, it would probably have been obvious that Sam wasn't allright and people would have speculated.
In Turkish we say “geçmiş olsun” meaning “May this stay in the past” instead of “get well soon”. May this journey stay in the past for you dear Sam, and I wish you and your family the best❤
I've tried many translators and they all translate this to "get well soon". I do not speak Turkish, nor know much about the language at all. Could you help me understand why all the translators contradict you?
@@LawloGaming both geçmiş olsun and get well soon are used in the same context, which is wishing the recovery of a sick person. that's probably why the translator does that. but while the english one wishes for a recovery in the future, the turkish "geçmiş olsun", as the original commenter said, wishes the illness (or whatever negative situation really, we use it in all bad cases) to immediately be over and become a thing of the past
"But mostly, I miss talking and thinking about anything other than cancer" Really put into perspective how dominating it is over your life. It's not just a threat or an illness, it's a process. It's survival. It's staying alive, but slow as possible while also having to somehow juggle the rest of your life because it doesn't just stop because you're in pain. And still coming back to deliver us smiles and laughter, in spite of wounds and utter exhaustion. Godspeed, Sam Riegel, Godspeed.
i dont even go here and yet when sam started to cry i did too. Im very very happy to hear hes doing better. I wish him a very speedy, but restful recovery.
I love the fact that they didn't cut the talk. He repeated everything for them to be able to make a clean cut and yet they didn't. And Sam? All the love from your critter family. We're there for you every step of the way!
@@jeremymorse713 Yep. You can remove the "voice" from the "actor," but you can't remove the "actor" from the "voice." And if you'll remember, way back in Liam's One-Shot where they played themselves and they had to "voice act" as part of the game, Sam was the only one who did a repeated pick-ups bit. I mean, sure it was done for a laugh, but it also shows the type of actor that Sam is. It's, clearly, in Sam's DNA to be as perfect as he can when he's pre-recording something.
Yeah, I think keeping it real and keeping that struggle is important. It can be very validating for anyone else struggling with a similar issue to see that their own recovery doesn't have to be perfect.
The man is a pro through and through, but I think that Sam and the team realised that in the end we could handle the real Sam that was worried and a little scared but still the bright little spark we love. It's the reason the love ❤ CR they are professional with a very polished and smooth show, but that we love the very very genuine and obvious love these people have for each other and what they do. I'm so glad that we could share in a deeply personal journey and hope that you know there are thousands of hands ready to help you stay up if you feel you are falling!
I work in the manufacturing of HPV vaccine and this makes me proud of the work I have done in the last three years that I contributed to helping prevent cancer like this. Please get the Vaccine folks its takes a lot of work from a lot of different people to make and can save your life!
@Suavek69 I work in maintenance so i cant give a great answer, but if you don't know if you have it, just get it. Please consult a doctor. Medical advice from random me isn't worth a damn compared to your doctor. Have a good day!
@@Lithillia And that makes it so much more meaningful that he shared this level of vulnerability. No one should have to suffer in silence behind a mask of other people's expectations. (I always think of Robin Williams.) Nor should anyone feel obligated to share private things, of course. But speaking out to save other people from suffering what he's been through? HERO.
My dad has been fighting cancer for almost 10 years now, I don’t remember a time when sickness was all we think about. Not only that, But it also becomes a massive financial burden. My family hasn’t ever been well off and cancer really does take control of just about every aspect of your life.
"I miss thinking about anything other than cancer." I went though this at age 23 (14 years ago now), having your mind dominated by thoughts of not being around to see your wedding, your kids, your parents and loved ones is one of the hardest parts of having cancer. The chemo sucks, the radiotherapy sucks, but they only last for a few hours/days at a time and you can sleep it off. Being trapped with your own thoughts is one of the most devastating parts of cancer. I know this will get lost in an ocean of support but Sam, from the bottom of my heart, I'm so glad you're on the other side of this.
@@wiseone86 came here to say something similar. Diagnosed at 25. Doctors told me, "Treatment will take 4 months if you're unlucky, 2 months if you're lucky. By this time next year it'll be like it never happened!" I'm NED for almost 6 years and it definitely happened; in a lot of ways it's still happening. The most important thing for me is remembering that the worst part is over, that recovery is long and sucks but it sucks a lot less than being in the middle of it. All my love to you and yours, and to Sam and his 💜
"They saved my life, and I'll save theirs." This quote brings even more weight now in the context of Sam's battle w/ cancer. His friends and family by his side, helping him every step of the way. Stay safe Sam and come back when you're ready.
Cancer survivor here- I get it. When your whole live is cancer related it’s nice to be “normal” again. I hated being the “cancer girl.” But you know what? That has opened the door for others to talk to me and be encouraged! AND a lot of my friends went and got their colonoscopy because of me. One found stuff. So talking about it now is helpful to others and healing for me :) You’ll get there. Glad you’re ok! ❤
Sam Riegel you may have played a Rogue, a Cleric and a Bard but right now you are a real Fighter! Keep fighting, beat that cancer into oblivion! Love and support from France Juliet
Just like seeing a peaceful person seethe in anger is 100 times more terrifying than seeing someone usually cranky get angry, seeing a really happy guy swell up with tears is heartbreaking. Wishing Sam all the strength and love ❤️🩹
Yeah i felt the pain instantly and my brain went to 'no Sam please don't cry! We love you so much' I'm so glad he's healthy couldn't even imagine what he went through
We love you sam❤ and hearing the word recover removed that dread I felt when you first were explaining. You are a core pillar to this community and I think I speak for everyone when I say you have our full support in your recovery 🙏🏽
he has returned to the campaign, and is so strong to do so! i can't imagine talking for upward of 4hours at a time while still recovering from something like this. Honestly THE greatest hero
This hit me a little harder today because my brother-in-law, truly fantastic human being, just found out he has cancer that has spread throughout his entire body. No symptoms other than a sore throat. He's basically at stage 4 with no prior warning. Sam... I admire and respect you. You are an incredible performer and a wonderful human being. Thanks for sharing.
The fact that Sam was dealing with this playing a happy little robot and still managing to put a smile on everyone’s face proves how much of a treasure he really is. We all love you Sam and we’re glad you’re doing better ❤
Sam encouraging everyone to get checked out if anything odd is happening finally gave me the courage to make a neurology appointment I've been dreading.
Yeah, I’ve been scared to get a mammogram. And find out what’s wrong with my stomach or liver. And a few other things… I live in a foreign country rn and every time I go to the doctor I get misdiagnosed until I get angry and they finally find the bone bruises and hernias and other things. 🫠 It’s exhausting.
Sam crying about being back and Marisha's "We love you Sammy" offscreen broke me real bad. I had a benign skin cancer tumor near my eye and Kaiser Permanente doctors made it so you can barely tell where they cut. I'm calling to schedule my next screening now. I went to USC undergrad and Keck is one of the best hospitals and training programs out there! Glad to have you back Sam.
Much strength Sam! You will punch through like a champ. Thank you for warning us, and giving some people the push they might need to go see a doctor with issues they might have. This video will help save lives as do all the other Critical Role videos. This one will hit people in a different way, but nonetheless. Thank you!
I choked up with Sam. The pain in his eyes, but the *joy* there was, too. I'm so happy to hear you're healing and on the recovery road, Sam. We love you dearly.
I've been going through some really hard stuff lately... Seeing Sam, who is the most cheerful and upbeat person in all of creation almost choke up in tears had me bawling.
As someone who has battled cancer, "...but mostly missing talking about anything other than cancer." means so much. Fighting cancer takes your entire existence. Sam, I'm beyond happy and proud you're through this. 👏
Critical Role is one of the few things that helped get me through my cancer diagnosis and treatment. One of my thoughts the entire time was "I can't die, I have to see what happens in campaign 3!" I'm happy to say that I'm still hear after 4 years. I'll never be fully rid of cancer unfortunately but thanks to so many great people, treatments and a positive attitude I plan on being here for as long as I can. And I'm so happy that Sam is still here with us. Thank you Sam, thank you Critical Role and everyone involved. You do more than entertain, you give hope when least expected. And you came through for me. Thank you.
Cancer is so awful. I lost family to it several times and it never got any easier to see a loved one fight it. I hope you continue to win your fight and live a happy life. I am rooting for you!!
I've been fighting stage 4 cancer for about a year and a half now, and through the show, the cast of Critical Role has been there with me through it all. You've given me dragons and adventures to think about instead of the cancer, so thank you. I wish Sam all the best and a speedy recovery. Fingers crossed for the highest of Con saves!
hey friend all the best to you, keep fighting and remember as Critters we love you too! advantage on those attack roles to fight the beast, you have allies giving you the help action
As a cancer survivor, I cracked up every time you said: “guys, it sucked!” Yep. Been there. You have brought such joy to all of us for so long. I’m so glad to be your fan. I think your voice sounds great.❤👍
this! And i felt so validated as he said "I missed talking and thinking about anything other than cancer". I went through a bone marrow transplant and chemo and at that time i hated talking about it
Welcome back Sam. My fiance has been in recovery for melanoma for 2 years now. Caught it right before it went to stage 3 and possibly spreading to other parts of the body. Love you man ❤
That explains why Matt got so emotional when FCG died. Sam is an incredible man and one of my favorite humans on the internet! I'm so glad he's going to be okay! We love you too, Sam!
Also explains why matt went so hard with otohan, making her unstoppable and invincible, then fudging all of her resistances and HP when FCG blew up, it was a planned behind-the-scene assassination so sam can chill and not have to show up for a bit
@@Cro1232cro I theorised that too. We might never really know, but in any case, I'm glad he had time to recover without all of us fans wondering why he suddenly away and asking ofr news.
@@Cro1232crobut why would Matt start to cry if they already knew it would happen? I think that was Sams decision in that moment, we know that the crownkeeper takeover was planned anyway, i'm sure Matt would have found another way to make fcg disappear
"I miss talking and thinking about anything other than cancer." My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer back in October and that statement truly broke me just now. When you or someone you love gets the diagnosis, it really does completely consume your life and thoughts.Thank you for telling your story. Much love and many wishes for a beautiful recovery, Sam!
I’m an opera singer. My whole life is my voice and the thought of having to relearn to speak is absolutely terrifying. But, from a medical perspective, I am also the daughter of a three time cancer survivor. My dad taught me that recovery is hard and long, but it is possible and so incredibly worth it. Sending so much love your way.
@@dddaaa6965 Way to go finding anything negative in such a positive comment about a terrible situation. You must feel very bad to project that hard. Look at yourself and stop being such a dick.
I'll admit, seeing Sam tear up and let it out a little like that caught me off guard. He is always the comedic relief, always cracking jokes, almost never serious. We all love you Sam Riegel, all of us.
My wife just received her "recovering" prognosis a week ago and she and I are still not done crying. Her stitches aren't even out yet. Cancer was the most brutal, tragic thing to happen in our lives. I wish you the best Sam. You have always been a shining light and beacon of goodness and inspiration. You deserve some peace, rest, and happiness.
Hey! For us UK Critters - you will have already had this vaccine in school, if you were in a girl year 8 any time after September 2008. (Thankfully it is now also available for boys too, since September 2019.) If you missed this vaccine, it is free on the NHS for females under 25, and males born after 1st September 2006. If this doesn't apply to you, it costs about £180 - however if you have the means to afford that, it's absolutely worth it to keep yourself healthy. Contact your GP if you wish to get vaccinated, and if it applies to you - please go to your pap smears! Both save lives!! All the best to you, Sam 💜 (edited to add some extra info :) )
If you're over those ages, you can still get the vaccine in the UK, but you may have to pay for it. It's about £180, which is a small cost to pay compared to cancer.
I remember being at school and this girls getting this vaccine but not the boys, and since I was born before 1st of September 2006, I cannot get it for free. 😶 I guess I'll have to fork out money.
Thank you for sharing this Sam. HPV is not taught as often as it should be especially in health classes in high school. Thank you for continuing to be the man we admire and appreciate and for speaking on your journey. I'm so glad you're still here with us.
Sam, Thank you for this, and for advocating for the HPV vaccine. It's something that doesn't get talked about enough. Glad you are recovering well. Wishing you all the best on the journey!
I'm 17 years old and I had cancer a few months ago. During chemo Critical Role was such a huge help for me. I've been in remission for 5 months now and eventhough that's not a huge amount of time it really gets easier. Do I still think about cancer every single day? Yes, I do. Do I still cry about it? Yes, of course. But thats fine. It takes time to be able to deal with that type of thing. Cancer f ing sucks. Thank you so so much for providing content that supported me and many others out there in such difficult times! I wish you all the best Sam
As a blind listener of the show, I appreciate your words and performances, Sam. Though I don’t have cancer, I receive injections in my eyes similar to chemo treatments every couple of months to keep blood vessels from accumulating in my eyes and tearing out my retinas. We all missed you and are so thankful that you are recovering.
If you don't mind me asking: If you are already blind then what do you need your retinas for? What other effects does that have that these injections prevent?
I just started getting these very same injections recently. My second one is at the end of the month. It's pretty scary waking up one day and realizing you can't see much in one eye. Here's hoping we all recover from what ails us and thanks to all those who help us along that journey.
@@Quotenwagnerianer blindness is a spectrum. I have some vision worth preserving. The results can also be very painful in a dead eye. I lost my dominant right eye, which had better vision a couple years before they perfected this technology enough to use in my left.
Words cant describe how blessed we are to have you around for many more years to come! We'll be sending you all the good vibes and best wishes from Croatia! FIGHT ON!
I am so glad you are talking about HPV. I lost my wife of 25 years (Who I met in a demo DnD game in 1981) in 2006 from Cervical Cancer related to it. Thank you so much for spreading the news that it is preventable. Also I did not catch any slurring 🙂and I hope to see more of your work coming up!!!
It's hard to see Sam tear up like that. He's always the happy character and I missed having him around. We're glad you're back Sam and I hope you have many smiley days to come.
I am a speech-language pathologist and work with patients like you frequently Sam. Throat cancer and the side effects of treatment are truly horrific! You are such a fighter! Keep going and thank you for sharing your story with us❤️ big love
I lost my voice acting teacher to throat cancer. I can't imagine how terrifying it must be to get that diagnosis, let alone have it be connected to your job. I am so happy that you defeated it! Take all the time you need. ❤ We love you, Sam!
I lost my boy to cancer. Pancreatic cancer. One month after he was 18 years old. The most horrible time in my live. It was horrible. I felt so helpless..... It's good to hear this stories of recovery. It makes my eyes watery, but it is tears of joy. Joy to hear people that got it and are here telling their stories and getting stronger. It sucks. But Sam is still here. And he is getting stronger 💪
I'm so sorry for your loss, it was same with my mother. By the time she looked into it, she was already in acute liver failure and went downhill within a month. Lost her two weeks ago. Get checked folks, please.
I lost my dad to cancer back in 2022. He passed after a decade-long fight, with the cancer traveling from his colon, to his liver, his lungs, then his spine and you can guess where it went after that. So I truly feel this topic. Get checked people. Even if it wasn't bad, knowing can help some of the grief.
My neice passed away in April! She was only six! F cancer! It is good to hear that there are new research being done! And I'm happy to hear that Sam is getting help and that there is help to get!
My husband was diagnosed with a super-rare blood cancer. "I miss talking about anything other than cancer" hits especially close to home - it was The Thing that dominated our lives for years. I'm so glad Sam had such a strong support group and is recovering 💖💖💖💖💖💖
My mama had to get a hysterectomy because of HPV-induced cancer when I was little. She made sure I got that vaccine as soon as I was the age to get it. I'm glad you and she were able to get treatment. Pap smears are so important.
Sam made me realize how important it is to get the HPV vaccine. I’m 30 and about to go in for a physical so I’m definitely asking for it now that I have benefits that’ll cover the cost. I hope you’re doing better now ♥️
I lost my dad to Skin Cancer almost a year ago exactly. And the worst part is he didn't need to die. He had refused getting radiation after they removed cancerous tumors in his lymph nodes. He didn't believe in science, didn't believe in people far more educated than him. He didn't listen to friends and family who begged him otherwise. Please PLEASE listen to doctors and other health care professionals, it can and will save your life. Much love to Sam and his friends and family, I'm so glad his story ended differently ❤
Aww Sam! Please accept my best wishes for a continued as good a recovery as possible and a big hug. I'm 6'3" so think of it like a slightly smaller Travis hug. I had thyroid cancer, and you've had it quite a bit rougher than me.
My most profound thanks to all the people who went to school and studied and worked and sweated and tried and went into debt and LEARNED to become the amazing healthcare professionals that they are. The healthcare SYSTEM can be so terrible and so frustrating, but the PEOPLE never fail to amaze me and to make me grateful. They give us the gift of their learning and care.
Sam, you made me cry so much with your last statement of missing talking or thinking of anything other than cancer. I know this exact feeling and it SUCKS. (Uterine cancer, coming up on 6 years cancer free in October) It will get better (the feeling…) but it will unfortunately take time. I’m so sorry you have and are still going through this. We love you! You’ve brought smiles and joy to many people with your characters and will continue to do so ❤
The thought that FCG's sacrifice was nearly the last thing we saw from Sam in Critical Role is too much for me to deal with emotionally. The world right now is dark and horrible and Sam Riegel is one of the few genuinely good and decent humans on the planet, I can't express in words how grateful I am that he is still with us.
Keep fighting Sam! In Denmark, the HPV vaccination is offered as part of the childhood vaccination program to children when they turn 12 years old. I was the first generation to receive the vaccine, and I am forever grateful. Today, I am 31 years old and do not have the same concerns as the men and women before me. Thank you for spreading awareness.
Same here (Brazil) for girls until age 14. But they give the older version, which protects against less strains of the virus. Ideally at this point we should vaccinate with Gardasil 9 too :)
After the reveal of Sam Riegel’s cancer battle, FCG’s sacrifice just became so bittersweet and how Sam’s cancer how affected the whole cast of Critical Role. This is saddest news I’ve ever heard! Thoughts and prayers to Sam Riegel and everyone on the Bell’s Hells campaign. 🌸♥️🌸 🙏🏻😌🙏🏻 🌸♥️🌸
Sam, For me you are my favorite of the group. You have no problem being yourself even when it crosses some lines other might sidestep (FCG's creators robot names was AMAZING. you had the whole group tore up laughing), besides that, from what you present, you, and all of the group, are great examples of what we can be when we are just ourselves and allow some of those "masks" to be taken off and be ourselves. I am happy you are well and wish you happiness and love in all you do.
oh my. i havent kept up with critical role in a long while, but you were and are always great Sam. Hope that your recovery is continuing well and wish you all the best.
As a radiation therapist and having treated countless patients with OPC, I can fully empathize with how challenging the treatment is. So many side effects that are incredibly hard to manage. Very happy to hear that it was caught early - early screening for early detection can make all the difference. All the best to Sam, and to reiterate for any critters reading this, please please please get tested and listen to your body.
Hopefully it was just because he wanted you to say his words out in a whole sentence, and I was glad to see them keep it in. Because this is real and important, and their reach is so far.
I think also, when you haven't been able to do something for so long, and especially for such a terrible reason... you want to push through, and do it 100%. Kind of a push back against cancer. Like, "I won't let you stop me." Whatever the reason, I genuinely dont think that he was doing it because of the crying. I think the entire cast has been very open and honest about mental health and a variety of topics around it. And I'd think they would encourage a heartfelt message in that manner. I just think he also wanted to make sure that the message wasn't lost in the emotion. Both are very important.
The world wouldn't be the same without Sam Reigel's voice, talent, and charm. So glad he is on the road to recovery and that he has the support system he needs. Rooting for a smooth recovery and happy days ahead!
Sam, I’m so grateful you have recovered and are still here with us. From the first episode of Critical Role I ever saw on, you have been a true joy to behold. You are a beautiful human being. I wish you many more long and healthy years to look forward to with an ever growing list of dear friends and loved ones. With my deepest regards, I cheer your victory!

Sam, there's a reason we gave you a standing ovation at The Greek: we love you. I hope you felt it--and keep on feeling it--and that it it buoys you as you make your way through the recovery process. Many of us have lost parts of our body to cancer, and on behalf of all I welcome you to the Survivor's Club. And please keep us posted.
Sam, I've only just met you, as I've begun my entry into D&D recently. I love you, and I am so thankful that you have such a strong support network surrounding you with love. Wishing you a steady and decisive recovery. ❤
That last part in the end really hit me. As someone who is a cancer survivor, there is nothing worse than having to think/talk about the big C every single day. When you're in the middle of it.... God, it's a constant reminder that you're sick that your life has hit the pause button and this is all you have. Thankfully having a support system helps, but yeah, it sucks. Hugs to Sam and his caregivers. Wishing the best.

I hope I can speak for all critters and say that while having Sam back is a blessing, having him be healthy and happy is of the utmost importance. If there's anything anyone can do, any support than can be offered, I hope Sam knows he has it in spades. Love you, Sam!
Perfect sentiment!

For those who didn't notice, when Sam introduced his new character he had a neck wound and he was dying asking for his friends to help heal him, absolutely amazing acting Sam. I hope you continue to heal.
That like the first this I thought of as well it makes me cry thinking about that 😢
Mind blown!
Just realized that now.
All of those tongue jokes he’s made really hits hard now
It was a brilliant move to cover up his medical issue, which he understandably wouldn't have wanted to reveal at the life show. Amazing commitment of Sam to do the life show in that state when he is still struggeling with his voice like that as we saw in just that 5 minute bit. Not so much "amazing acting", since it turns out all that throat wound related stuff was much less of an act and more an issue of him actually still struggeling to speak.
What a cruel diagnosis for someone who makes his living off his voice. You can tell he fought hard to get it back, what a legend.
It's so painful to see Sam cry... He always makes me laugh and forget my daily adult life struggles. Wish you complete recovery.
Ikr
when i first saw laura say " im gonna cry" and her and ashley both cried when sam came back during the live show, i just thought they were happy to finally play with their friend again. To hear this, to see they all went through this with him and saw his hardest days. I get now it meant something so much more to them, because they knew everything he went through to get back on that stage. They must of been so proud of him. Our Faithful Care Giver 💛
OMG the minotaur had a scar at its neck where Sam has one now....
@@howenhiem4536 which live show/episode was the one you mean?

@@loyboys The last one, campaign 3 episode 98: The Nox engine. Sam enters at the 55th minute.

I'm literally leaving work right now to go get my hpv shot cuz I've put it off for a decade... Ty again, yet again Sam.
Seeing this man's bright smile dashed by tears and pain absolutely guts me.
When he returned in the live show his character had a wound on his throat and was gasping for air. The thought behind that is kind of poetic if you ask me. Swift recovery Sam and keep strong!
Sam let his art imitate his life.
Wow, so true.
Kind of a brilliant way to explain why his voice may have sounded rough when he wasn't ready to tell us all yet the real reason behind it.
oh shit you're right
More practical than poetic.
That is such a good sentiment.
I'm stealing this, if I may. I like that SO much better!
What a wonderful saying
"But mostly, I miss talking and thinking about anything other than cancer" Really put into perspective how dominating it is over your life. It's not just a threat or an illness, it's a process. It's survival. It's staying alive, but slow as possible while also having to somehow juggle the rest of your life because it doesn't just stop because you're in pain. And still coming back to deliver us smiles and laughter, in spite of wounds and utter exhaustion. Godspeed, Sam Riegel, Godspeed.
Not something I'd really thought of before, despite having work colleagues who've gone through treatment - some successfully, some not so much.
@@Thermalions Condolences, I know how rough and strange that can be. Hope you and yours that are still here well (And those who have passed, peace)

My dad has been fighting cancer for almost 10 years now, I don’t remember a time when sickness was all we think about. Not only that, But it also becomes a massive financial burden. My family hasn’t ever been well off and cancer really does take control of just about every aspect of your life.
"I miss thinking about anything other than cancer."
I went though this at age 23 (14 years ago now), having your mind dominated by thoughts of not being around to see your wedding, your kids, your parents and loved ones is one of the hardest parts of having cancer. The chemo sucks, the radiotherapy sucks, but they only last for a few hours/days at a time and you can sleep it off.
Being trapped with your own thoughts is one of the most devastating parts of cancer.

If you missed this vaccine, it is free on the NHS for females under 25, and males born after 1st September 2006. If this doesn't apply to you, it costs about £180 - however if you have the means to afford that, it's absolutely worth it to keep yourself healthy.
++++
If there was a love button, I would be smashing it rn
Lost my wife in 2015 to breast cancer, today would have been her birthday. Live every moment you can Sam and best of luck.
Sorry for your loss dude x
So sorry for your loss.
Xxx ❤
So sorry for your loss
4:50. Marisha speaks for all of us. More smiley days coming your way Sam.
Sam, you made me cry so much with your last statement of missing talking or thinking of anything other than cancer. I know this exact feeling and it SUCKS. (Uterine cancer, coming up on 6 years cancer free in October)
It will get better (the feeling…) but it will unfortunately take time.
Thank you for spreading awareness.
same here in sweden.
Same here (Brazil) for girls until age 14. But they give the older version, which protects against less strains of the virus. Ideally at this point we should vaccinate with Gardasil 9 too :)
Same in the UK, but I think I was 15
After the reveal of Sam Riegel’s cancer battle, FCG’s sacrifice just became so bittersweet and how Sam’s cancer how affected the whole cast of Critical Role.
You all good Sam. ❤
No one can be even slightly upset at Sam. He needed to recover and he's better now. Here's to the long road.
I’m not crying. You’re crying.
His little "I missed this" during the liveshow feels waaaaay heavier now.
I'm so lucky to have been offered this vaccine at school at the age of 13. Thank you for spreading awareness of the importance of the HPV vaccine
oh my. i havent kept up with critical role in a long while, but you were and are always great Sam.
The fact he re-started his sentences when he began to cry as if it wasn't okay to cry and it would be cut out, is crushing
@@Hearthacnut I figured it was just voice actor reflex. "That's not right, let me do another take" kind of thing
@@Hearthacnut this.
Hopefully it was just because he wanted you to say his words out in a whole sentence, and I was glad to see them keep it in.
Because this is real and important, and their reach is so far.
@@100blueeyedboy I hope so
I think also, when you haven't been able to do something for so long, and especially for such a terrible reason... you want to push through, and do it 100%. Kind of a push back against cancer. Like, "I won't let you stop me."
Whatever the reason, I genuinely dont think that he was doing it because of the crying.
Your wit and humor and tenderness shine through. Thank you for making this grim world a better place to live in. I wish you many more long and healthy years to look forward to with an ever growing list of dear friends and loved ones. With my deepest regards, I cheer your victory!
Sam, I'm 12 years clear from my hpv cancer. I couldn't have done it without family and friends plus my sister had her girls protected from hpv at my request. Sending love to you! Too all who see this GET VACCINATED!
Thank you for sharing your story. I just booked my first HPV shot with my doctor because of this.
I already new why he was off... But hearing it brought me to tears, i lost a friend due cáncer... I'm so happy You are still around🥹🥺😭
Life after cancer can be a rough, but there is a reaffirmation of life--a fresh gratitude for existence--that sprouts like a phoenix from it. Thank you for sharing your journey. And please keep us posted.
Ha! Phoenix! I see what you did there.
