Yeah I agree would also prefer if they moved the charger slot to the back as I always find it so awkward trying to play devices like this while it is charging find it much more convenient and comfortable with the charging port at the rear like with my aya neo
I loved hearing your live reaction and enthusiasm come through when testing the vr segment. Such a stark contrast to your concise and planned delivery that we're used to. Do you ever stream live on twitch or yt?
Do you think this is still good even if I don't use the VR mode? Mainly looking at cloud / console streaming and emulation. (I'm AU so this is probably $600 for me) Do you think the QLED is worth the extra buck? If not do you recommend any other handhelds?
This device looks amazing as streaming handheld(using Moonlight or Steam link on local or cloud services). I don't mind the panda look but I would prefer all black version because it won't get dirty as fast. I feel like this devices success will come down to pricing and availability. If base model is priced around Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite and it's available around the world then I think it will be huge success. The screen looks nice, the controllers looks about as comfortable as it gets with this style, performance looks really good and I love the magnetic grips. I'm getting motion sickness from VR headsets so it's not something for me but it's good that it is there for those who want it.
Thanks for the video! This looks amazing; in fact I have decided to back it. I'm just a bit concerned about the magnets in the controllers. Two issues here: 1. What will happen after a bit of time? Will they wear out and lose power, causing loss of stability? 2. Are magnets near electronics a good idea? What happens when you pass the controllers' edge near the screen or the back of the console? And what if you put the console or controllers near another console, i.e. switch? Would be nice to test this.
1. Neodymium magnets don't really lose power over time. 2. Modern electronics aren't effected by magnets like old crts used to be. So many modern electronics are filled with magnets to no negative effects
Dude I've been using Virtual Desktop for working with my visual impairment and needing to sometimes get close to the content on screen. If I could set this up so I could use Virtual Desktop on the go with a laptop, that would absolutely rule :D. That said, device looks ... interesting. I honestly think the panda look is fine, but a pure black would have been better. Thanks for the review, Ill keep an eye out for this, because this actually looks really interesting!

Having excess stock of niche products, without any forecast of demand has caused many companies to go under. Not to mention the price of the product will increase because warehouses cost money. Their timelines could be definitely be improved though
@@GWT1m0 it won’t, and honestly Pimax has till been going strong for years despite making mediocre niche products, as they fill a niche of 4k+ vr gaming headsets no other company wants to touch.

Taki since you tried VR Headset, can you also review Nreal the gaming sunglasses? It is quite similar to VR headset where you have your own private cinema or big TV with unmatched portability and privacy.
Hey taki, I just wanted to know if the video input was just a prototype thing or will it be in the final product 🤔 Because if this can be a portable monitor it would be game changing!!
The Kickstarter site says that the HDMI input is to be used as a streaming link when you're running VR stuff in your PC. So this thing is not only a full android gaming device but it also functions as a VR headset for PC? At the same price as one?? AND ITS IN MY FAVORITE COLOR??? Im sold Question, can the controllers work as pointers? I mean, does the device track the position of them? Many games require hand tracking so they just wouldn't work otherwise
While this device on paper is very cool, I hope you do your research into Pimax's history. They are very well known in the VR space for way over promising and never delivering, and not fixing software problems for literal years on end.
Ah yes, mentioning our humble beginnings. The company has improved a lot since the old days. We have continually supported most of our products and from the 8kx we really hit stride with our headsets. The new generation is even better than the last, and we plan to continue that trend going forward.
@@WhatsupAbroad So when are you going to fix the alignment issues with Pitool on the 8kx? It's a $1100+HMD that isn't functional unless you spend a frustrating about of time adjusting the pixel offset per eye every single time you adjust the IPD. This is not acceptable because of the nauseating issue it causes. This has been an issue for over a year. now I would know, I foolishly purchased a headset from you guys. It still doesn't work with beat saber natively. These are unacceptable issues on your device that haven't been fixed since the headset came out 3 YEARS ago. This puts serious pause to anyone wanting to buy a new pimax product when you can't fix fundemental issues on products. How is the consumer going to be able to trust you with something that is even more software dependent.
Oh and I forgot here's a list of products that are promised but were never shipped: Pimax wireless adapter Pimax 12k qled (supposed to come out this year (2022)) Pimax crystal
@@duckyishappy The ipd offset on the 8kx is rather complex, Kevin has a tutorial on how to adjust it properly. Unfortunately there is no way to do it automatically without eye tracking. In my case I've never touched the offset sliders. Never needed to. I don't know what issue with beatsaber you might have. There is the pi fix mod that needs to be installed to optimize the performance, but that's related to the developers, not us. They refuse to support our hardware natively. That said I spend more time in beatsaber with my 8kx than any other game. Oh but beat saber does run on the Crystal without that fix being needed as some of our internal tech has changed. The wireless adapter proved to be impossible. The motherboard we used ended up causing issues we couldn't resolve without a far more substantial solution. We provided customers discounts and coupons as an apology. If you haven't received yours please reach out to our customer support with your backer number and information and request a coupon. If you have any issues you can reach out to me on Twitter. I'll try to respond quickly. The 12k has been pushed to 2023. The Crystal is already shipping to developers and industrial users in China. Multiple devs the world over already have units as well. The CEO of Newegg had one on his head today. As a company we believe in pushing forward, bettering our products and services, and continually giving customers the best specs on the market. Hope this provided you with some answers. For one of the next videos, if you have the dock, can you show if it can be used like a Switch (remove the controllers from the main tablet, put the main tablet in the dock, continue playing with little interruption)?
Those magnets are concerning. It snaps together so quickly, and I assume with a lot of force. I'd be concerned that the plastics holding things in place breaking and cracking over time.
The surfaces are flat and hit front to front so the force spreads well, most likely it will take very long for any possible damage to be visible. I'd be more concerned about the magnets loosing polarization wich does happen sometimes
I'd love to see a cheaper version of this handheld with the VR components removed. Nothing wrong with it having vr, but making a model that targets the handheld android market at a competitive price, with high quality switch-like controls is easy money!
This product has a lot of flaws but man, I really wanna see this thing improve and fully release. I am a bit worried about the comfort of holding the smaller device as I wasn't a huge fan of the Switch Lite, and also kinda concerned on the magnets for the controllers. But overall this concept is everything you would need for a handheld and the VR is just icing on the cake.
The front face camera could be used for streaming, but they should have moved it to the top center so it isn't being blocked by fingers and stuff and would actually align with a person's face.
Wonder if it’s similar to the new iPad front camera that is also on the side intend of in front of your face in a portrait orientation, on the iPad the location of it is so you can use the feature called “Center screen” where when taking a selfie the camera sensor always make sure you are located right in the miss of the shot. Or maybe it’s something to do with the vr like putting your face in some of the games 🤷♂️

If the vr part could somehow acess steam vr or meta's vr store for quest games this could literally become an all in one android handheld, for reference the quest runs on a custom version of Android i found this out after playing around with my quest 2 in developer mode
Looks great. Hope they make the aesthetics and price better in the final version.
Yeah I agree would also prefer if they moved the charger slot to the back as I always find it so awkward trying to play devices like this while it is charging find it much more convenient and comfortable with the charging port at the rear like with my aya neo
I like the white and black vs all the black
That thing is an absolute beast
I loved hearing your live reaction and enthusiasm come through when testing the vr segment. Such a stark contrast to your concise and planned delivery that we're used to. Do you ever stream live on twitch or yt?
In a prior life, I used to stream on YT and Twitch.
@@TakiUdon well, if you ever revive that portion of your life, plz let us know, I'd be down for it!
seems like a great all in one gaming device
Do you think this is still good even if I don't use the VR mode? Mainly looking at cloud / console streaming and emulation. (I'm AU so this is probably $600 for me)
Do you think the QLED is worth the extra buck?
If not do you recommend any other handhelds?
Hey taki can we please get some sort of handheld tour/room tour or similar for the final video of the year
This device looks amazing as streaming handheld(using Moonlight or Steam link on local or cloud services).
What a strange, but really interesting hybrid device. I guess this is what the Switch cardboard Labo thing was trying to do but implemented better.
14:15 so no capture cards?
You know what else everybody likes? Parfaits.
Nice intro taki!
Thanks for the video! This looks amazing; in fact I have decided to back it. I'm just a bit concerned about the magnets in the controllers. Two issues here:
@@j_a_a i see... thanks!
The screen is pretty cool
Dude I've been using Virtual Desktop for working with my visual impairment and needing to sometimes get close to the content on screen. If I could set this up so I could use Virtual Desktop on the go with a laptop, that would absolutely rule :D. That said, device looks ... interesting. I honestly think the panda look is fine, but a pure black would have been better. Thanks for the review, Ill keep an eye out for this, because this actually looks really interesting!
Really curious about the vr software situation, I'd love for it to have a store comparable to the quest
Yeah it seems perfect to use with vr seeing it has the magnetic removable controllers to use in games for movement
What a curious device. I sorta like it.
I love that Capcom intro!
Anybody know if you're ever going to be able to just outright buy this thing without joining some hokey crowdfunding thing or waiting in a que for who knows how long? So sick of products being delivered soviet style like this instead of just letting people buy the damned things.
Are u dumb. Unless something like this is created by a big company then it’s going to continue to be like this.
Their older products are on Amazon, so I would assume so.
Nice I’m glad I passed on the Odin, I currently game on a 865 phone and I know the power that thing puts out I will definitely consider buying this. I hope they list this on Amazon.
Vr, switch like controls and emulators in one portable device? really, really cool would love one of these some day even though I already have an aya Neo 2021 😉😏
Taki since you tried VR Headset, can you also review Nreal the gaming sunglasses? It is quite similar to VR headset where you have your own private cinema or big TV with unmatched portability and privacy.
Like my pimax headset. FOV is amazing.
whenever I see he directionals in like this 'island' layout I think it should be possible to detach and flip it to a psp configuration, which I prefer
How would you flip the triggers?
Hey taki, I just wanted to know if the video input was just a prototype thing or will it be in the final product 🤔
Because if this can be a portable monitor it would be game changing!!
It's supposed to be in the final product and it should allow it to function as a portable monitor. For some reason, it just doesn't work on mine.
Looks very cool
Very interested
Ohh my God Taki ohhh my ...
The Kickstarter site says that the HDMI input is to be used as a streaming link when you're running VR stuff in your PC. So this thing is not only a full android gaming device but it also functions as a VR headset for PC? At the same price as one?? AND ITS IN MY FAVORITE COLOR??? Im sold
Question, can the controllers work as pointers? I mean, does the device track the position of them? Many games require hand tracking so they just wouldn't work otherwise
The sound seems decent to good, would you say it's up there in terms of sound quality? Tks for the video!
What a wild device!
Oh and I forgot here's a list of products that are promised but were never shipped: Pimax wireless adapter
Pimax 12k qled (supposed to come out this year (2022))
Pimax crystal
@@duckyishappy
The ipd offset on the 8kx is rather complex, Kevin has a tutorial on how to adjust it properly.
The company is rapidly growing and becoming able to handle more work. we added 100 new employees just this year which has been very helpful for us.
@@WhatsupAbroad Is the XR2 chip in the pimax a rebranded SnapDragon865 ?? just want to be sure I know what I'm getting, I'd be cool with that if it's the case
Þis is þe first non-ultra-budget emulation handheld þat really intrigues me. Playing snes, GBA, maybe PSX, in VR wiþ big screen sounds great because my monitor is quite small
what the switch was lacking. This looks looks interesting ngl
I am curious, does it play games like from the App Store android games, like dragon ball z dokkan battle ?
What was the game you started playing at 19:11? Looks pretty good and like something I'd be interested in.
This is definetly interesting ,I do want a comparison to the Odin cause I really want a good android handheld
this is way better, I mean SD845 vs 865, thats nearly a 60% difference if we're comparing GPU, and CPU prolly even more
18:52
Interesting device! The VR interface is very Oculus-like
So the tablet portion just slides into the VR headset, just like how Google Daydream worked a few years ago? What's different between the two?
6DFO, tracked controllers, PCVR steam streaming
@@joshuadadad5414 I started reading some of that, after I made that comment & I actually knew about it already, but for some reason, I guess I forgot lol! I am definitely interested in it & love stuff like this.
For one of the next videos, if you have the dock, can you show if it can be used like a Switch (remove the controllers from the main tablet, put the main tablet in the dock, continue playing with little interruption)?
Yes it can. We don't have the Dock ready, but it's essentially a custom shaped USB c dock.
Looks cool I don’t really have an interest in it but it does make me want to use my VR to play retro games now, so thanks for the video.
You could put them on gently if you are worried.
this look cool ngl
I'd love to see a cheaper version of this handheld with the VR components removed. Nothing wrong with it having vr, but making a model that targets the handheld android market at a competitive price, with high quality switch-like controls is easy money!
Yeah that would be really cool
Taki, are you planning to show overclocked performance on the emu video?
I need to play Ape Escape, so I might get one
I wish you reviewed the BSP-D3 telescopic controller. It is a great controller for a turning a cheap phone into a budget gaming handheld
Great Video, Taki Udon 😉👌 Yup, Looks like a Pimax Product to me. 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
well, i hope there will be an aux port (for cabled headphones), because i am usually in crowded areas
