I lost 60 pound and finally got the six pack unfortunately. I regained the weight. This is a lifestyle. Losing is hard but maintaining is a another thing. Just keep working

I can relate to your journey. I have lost the same 40lbs. over and over and I have always gained it back. It was not until I changed my life style, gave up alcohol (mostly) that I was able to keep the weight off. Keep grinding!

May 1st 2023, I was turning 60 yrs old, weighing 255 lbs. at 6'-0" tall. I wasn't feeling good at all. In only 3 months went on a 14 day water fast, 10 day water fast and a 7 day water fast while eating a very low carb diet in between fast. In 3 months lost 57 lbs. down to 198 lbs. 14 months later, weight still off. Now July 2024 I started another 7 day water fast to get to my goal of 181-185 lbs. Oh yeah, I quit cigarettes at that time!! Note: drink a glass of salted water every 3 days. "You need it and gets rid of the headaches real fast." Also drank one Gatorade "ZERO" everyday for electrolytes & nutrients. You need salt and vitamins during fasting.👍

Congrats on that! So similar to my experience. Fasting is like magic when it come to breaking long time addictions. Not smoke doesn't seem so bad when you are not eating food, kind puts everything in perspective. Good luck on you next 7 day fast, I'm sending some positive fasting vibes your way! Keep grinding!

I would limit carbs, starches, and sugars as much as possible. Look into insulin sensitivity and how it works to make muscle building more efficient with less calories. It's possible to do the "maingain" without bulking and then cutting.
Insulin sensitivity and ketosis go hand and hand so stay in ketosis. Get those urinalysis test strips and get them as purple as possible. As long as it's turning, you're burning fat.
As for the dizziness, electrolytes, but we've already went over that :)

Yeah after watching those videos about the dangers of not taking electrolytes when fasting I am a believer. I have done the keto diet for long stretches and my body has responded well. I get the same heightened thinking and I lose my hunger. I was able to gain muscle and run while doing intermittent fasting and the keto diet. I need to read up on insulin sensitive. I know when in keto you avoid blood sugar spikes which is an all around good thing. Thanks!

Omg I’m so happy for you! I started at 250 and I’m currently at 215. For the past three months been having a fear of restarting cause it was so hard mentally. My goal is 175, do you have any tips for mentally prepping to go through this process again?!
Again, congratulations! So happy for you!

      Awesome! That is great!
For me, it helps if I am able to clear my calendar, completely organize the house, and rid my living space of "poison" (unhealthy foods, etc.).
Can you unplug and do a digital detox, too? Being constantly bombarded with garbage messages isn't helpful.
Stress-free living makes it much easier. Quality sleep.
      Have you tried mindfulness meditation?
      Best of luck to you.

Thank you! Congrats on your transformation! For me if I fast too frequently I start to feel a little cheated. I find my most successful fasts were when I planned them in advance and built up to them until it was almost like I was excited to start. I usually only fast once a year or sometimes I'll do a shorter fast at 6 months. As a life style to maintain my weight loss and still make progress I have had great success with OMAD or a 5 hour feeding window. I never feel cheated on OMAD I even feel indulgent sometimes while still losing fat and I can make gains in the gym. But when my time to fast starts to come around I try to make it a big deal. I tell my family and friends it's coming. I plan what I will do post fast, I plan the prep and I let the anticipation build up. Good luck on your journey! You are half way there!

    Congratulations!
That is insane to be dropping close to 3 pounds at Day 7.
When I hit statis in a water fast, I drop 12 ounces/340 grams of fat per day (I've read of larger men losing 1 pound of fat per day). Your metabolism is hyper-charged or something...because after Day 4, even if you were a "salthead", the sodium should be flushed from your body well before Day 7, so it shouldn't be from water loss.
If I were you, I'd definitely want to get my pituitary gland checked out.
If you ever decide to do a longer fast, I'd be very curious to know at what day you hit "statis" (where your input/output normalize).
If no strenuous physical activity, it shouldn't be muscle atrophy, but now you've got me thinking...
No need to worry about the skin. If you continue to eat well and exercise, it will retract on its own (that isn't the case for excessive weight loss when morbidly obese).
Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Thank you! You are so right. When I did my 21-day fast around day 5 or 6 I started losing 1 lb. a day average. Some days 0 and some days 2. Losing 3 lbs. on day 7 I don't understand. But it is interesting data. The human body is doing so many things at once. I also agree with you about the skin. Post fast I always see an improvement in the skin, I am lucky being 6'3" I can carry a lot of weight without much issue with skin. Merry Christmas to you and your family as well!

Right now I currently weigh 264 pounds and I want to get to 160 lbs. how long should I water fast for? My height is 5’10.

My approach to fasting is a little different. I would not fast to lose all my fat and hit my goal body weight. My approach is to fast once a year to test myself and strengthen my willpower. Then I transition to my healthy diet, rebuild any lost muscle and continue my weight loss journey. The most weight I've lost was on my 21 day fast, I lost 31 lbs. plus 8 on the 3 days of prep. Of that total 39 lbs. I gained back 12 lbs. within 10 days of breaking the fast and was able to keep off the rest for over 6 months. Hope that helps! Good luck!
