No real issues other than hunger pain that is very hard to push through but I love mentally testing myself. That's awesome! Congrats on 5 days! We are so similar, I started with 3 day fasts and worked my way up. When I started fasting I scavenged UA-cam for videos about other people fasting. It is cool to know how other people felt on each day of their fast. OMAD worked awesome for me after my fast. I did it for 6 months and I always felt like the fasting part was easy knowing I was going to feast later that day. The hardest part was transitioning from fasting to eating, I have 3 days where temptation to binge is high. Good luck hitting 7 days Finish strong!

    • @ChallengeTheory

      Yes! The blue is level 2 tension and the red is level 3. The red one is stiffer and gives more of a strength boost. The size also makes a big difference. Mine is 1 size too small for me and that makes it super tight at the bottom giving me more boost out of the hole. I'd rather have the right size to get the most out of the lift.

    I'm in my day 8 of my water fasting, the most difficult day for me was day 4 and 5 because I had nauseas, for sleeping I realized if I dream magnesium helps me a lot, I lost 12 pounds already, I went from size 12 to 8 in my jeans, and I found a lot other benefits that I didn't expect, I am 50 years old and the wrinkles in my forehead are almost gone, I had a pain in the arch and heel of my left foot for the last 2 months for an exercise injury and now is gone, I also had a non-cancer cyst that I don't feel anymore. I’ve been bulking up in the gym a lot very recently and I’m currently doing a 14 day fast to offset any fat gain. I’m on day 4 already, and I notice my energy levels are lower than normal. You see, I have the stamina to do light exercises like walking and daily activities, but don’t have stamina for intense exercise like running. Is this normal? What about when you hit ketosis? Are energy levels still low on some days too, even with ketosis? And, one thing that’s causing me food cravings is a dry mouth, as this is causing cravings due to oral stimulation due to lack of saliva production? How do you manage dry mouth on a prolonged fast? What do you do to keep saliva production in check? Any tips on managing energy levels and dry mouth would really help. And, how do you help with heart palpitations? I’m taking electrolytes of sea salt (sodium), salt substitute (potassium), and magnesium daily, so I’m trying to stay well hydrated, but the heart racing is very mild and my energy levels can do daily activities and walk of course, but not anything intense as I don’t have stamina for this.

    • @ChallengeTheory
      @ChallengeTheory 12 днів тому

      Congrats on day 4! Your electrolytes sound good. I never had issues with heart rate so be careful with that and check with a Dr. I find that around day 4 I'm in full ketosis and the fasting gets a little easier. I had exact same experience with training, light training, walks etc were great but intense training like running and lifting took a toll on me and I would feel down for the rest of the day. This is normal the expert say to avoid intense training on prolonged fast and it can even cause more muscle loss because your body does not have what it needs to repair the muscle. I think of my fast as a deload from lifting and a time to let my body focus on healing. I also had dry mouth all the time and I just sipped on water all day. Nothing really relieves it, just part of the process. Good luck hitting your goal!

    • @MattCummings795
      @MattCummings795 12 днів тому

      @@ChallengeTheory Thank you. It seems I probably have to stop taking my caffeine supplements as it looks like it might be causing my mild heart palpitations rather than the fast itself. You see, I thought my calorie free caffeine supplements would help improve my energy levels rather than give me those heart palpitations and make me even feel more tired throughout the day. No wonder why I would have heart palpitations because I am a healthy individual with no medical conditions at all and I am taking my sea salt and salt substitute dissolved in water along with a magnesium/calcium table that is calorie free and doesn’t break the fast, which should help, but it seems once you hit full ketosis, which might be tomorrow on day 5 for sure, I’ll feel better and my energy levels will likely improve rather than feel drowsy. I know not to do intense exercise like marathon running or heavy lifting as this can indeed increase muscle loss, and the fast itself, while not perfectly zero, it is very minimal and almost no loss, which means any minor loss will only take a few days up to a one week in the gym at most to repair and gain a back any minor loss, thanks to muscle memory. Fasting is like an excellent way to lose unwanted fat super quick before you know it, while keeping muscle loss very minimal, and even more minimal the more you do it due to the body’s ability to adapt to periodic fasting cycles, so the minimal muscle loss during your first fast will be even less and less the more you do it and while it may never reach perfectly and spot on zero, it will become very close like only a fraction of a pound, which is nothing and makes sense because our ancestors relied on feast and famine to survive, which is similar to my bulking (feasting to put on as much muscle as you can in a given time) and cutting (followed by a prolonged fast to offset any fat gain while mainly maintaining most if all of your muscle) and even more so the more extended fasting cycles you go through, as the body is more adaptable than we think and you don’t just lose the same rate of muscle each time you fast, as long as body fat is not extremely depleted. My food cravings on day 4 are not there at all or are very mild and it seems those heart palpitations were probably due to taking caffeine supplements rather than the fast itself, especially since I am staying very hydrated with electrolytes, and it seems the only way to maintain energy levels is do light exercises like taking daily walks to maintain blood flow rather than caffeine supplements. Am I right? Would you recommend taking daily walks or even light training to maintain blood flow and increase energy rather than caffeine?

      @@MattCummings795 Yes I do daily walks and I was a coffee drinker before and went off during my fast and my energy levels were crazy, sometimes from the ketosis it felt like my brain was going extra fast. I would have times when energy was low but they always passed in 30 minutes or so. It is crazy how the physical hunger goes away around day 4. Sounds like you are crushing it!

      @@ChallengeTheory Thank you. So, I guess it seems normal to feel just mild heart palpitations from here and there and a little cranky on some days, but not sign of future fainting or ending up in the emergency room, especially if you’re an individual with no medical conditions and stays well hydrated with not only water, but electrolytes too, as electrolyte imbalances can cause heart palpitations or fatigue or even more of a dry mouth too, and they help you stay more full too with that balanced water retention and normal fluid balance, as water loss from bodily fluids can mimic hunger, faster heartbeats and even fatigue. Thank you for this information. It just seems I just have to accept and be prepared on some days, I’ll feel amazing, while on other days, I just feel like sleeping, even with ketosis. And, I found this mouthwash too and is the BEST for dry mouth on a fast. I use it once a morning and the brand is called ACT and it’s the mint burst flavor (not the regular mint), and I would recommend you get it if you ever plan future fasts as this for me, surprisingly really helps with my dry mouth significantly and reduces my cravings to chew something due to the need of oral stimulation caused by lack of saliva production. I’m doing the best I can like taking walking every day, one when I first wake up and another in the evening to maintain as much energy levels and blood flow as possible, but even that, I understand from your information, it’s normal to have days of feeling cranky and that’s okay without needing to stop immediately or even worse, go the the ER, and if you ever do it again, you might feel even better and less cranky on days over time as the body gets used to it and adapts to fasting, including and even periodic prolonged fasts, which explains why our ancestors had the stamina and ability to hunt and gather during periodic “famine” as their bodies have evolved to adapt to any stressors, including prolonged fasting for, time to time, as they went sometimes even weeks without food, making it easy to do it in the future and less effort to put in without those unpleasant feelings you may get. I can’t wait to finish my fast as I’m already half way done on to day 6 right now, and I’m feeling good today with no symptoms, but I understand for a fast this long, reintroducing food gradually is a must and I plan on breaking the fast with bone broth and lean proteins the first couple days with some carbs, then start to eat more fats on the third day and increasing carbohydrate intake to some extent, then by day 4, I’ll go pretty much back to my regular diet. Fasting is a great tool and a good way to do some mini-bulking phase with a mini-cut phase too, so you bulk up for a month as much as possible followed by a 7-14 day fast (1-2 weeks) to offset any fat gain, and then you repeat, and the result would be a net increase in muscle mass over time, while keeping any fat gain low if not none, since the fasting cycles are minimal to negligible muscle loss and way less than the amount you gained in that month of bulking and training, especially as your body adapts to the periodic 7-14 day fasts, making any muscle loss almost nothing and extremely close to zero the more you do it, just as long as body fat is not severely depleted and you’re not extremely lean like with a fully developed extremely deep six pack abs with striations everywhere, which explains why our ancestors survived during “feast and famine” without any cumulative muscle loss due to adaptations, as my approach of bulking up as much as I can for a whole month followed by a 7-14 day fast in between to offset any fat gain mimics these natural patterns our ancestors faced because my routine for bulking, while keeping body fat low, involves SIGNIFICANT fluctuations in calorie intake just like our ancestors faced periods of food abundance and scarcity. And, you always hear you can’t build muscle when you do extended fasting, but not quite, not if you follow a routine like mine that involves periods of regular eating like the month long period of eating a lot to bulk up provides an ample of time for sufficient nutrient replenishment daily to maximize MPS unlike other extended fasting protocols where there is less frequent eating. It’s going well so far and I’m going to continue this routine for about six months to a year to see how it all goes. I currently weight around 132-135 pounds right now, and my goal is to get to 150 pounds predominantly from muscle, so it will take some time, but with my routine and consistency, it’s achievable and doable. All in all, thank you for letting me know it’s normal to feel cranky with a mild faster heart rate on some days. You just got to push through it and let your body adapt to it. Take care. Lift Heavy. Be well.

      @@MattCummings795 Congrats on 6 days! Good luck hitting your goal. Crankiness and energy level changes are normal, I usually felt great in the morning and struggled in the evenings. You have to listen to your body and be safe, I am not an expert and I never had any heart palpitations so I can't say if this is ok, if I experienced this I would either check with a Dr. or if it was at a certain level consider breaking the fast. Just saying this so you know I can't advise you on this and I want you to be safe. I agree with what you say about how our ancestors lived. It always amazes me how the body can find energy to do so much when in a fasted state. I ran a 5k on my 17th day of fasting. I wouldn't recommend this but I wanted to test myself and I was able to do it. I also had issues with my mouth feeling uncomfortable all the time so if you found some relief that is awesome. You are a beast! I'm sending some positive fasting energy your way!

    When you talked about the hard path and taking extreme routes to kick you out of a habit, it really resonated with me. I'm going to do day 1 tomorrow. I've done many fasts before when Keto but since put most of the weight back on with no control. I'm in ketosis now and going to go into fasting with electrolyte supplements only/water. Thanks for the motivation!

      that's long time, make sure to not indulge in large quantities of any food, even healthy and definitely not on any quantity of unhealthy food on your birthday otherwise consequences can be fatal, do your research.

      I have some loose skin and minimal stretch marks but they are the same when I fast to lose the weight or when I lost is slowly over time in the past.
